An American country music star has used artificial intelligence (AI) to make music again, years after suffering a stroke (中风).
Randy Travis was a popular country music performer in the 1980s and 1990s and won several Grammy Awards during his career. But in 2013 he suffered a stroke, which made it hard for him to speak, not to mention making music and returning to the stage.
Kyle Lehning, Travis' longtime music producer, said Where That Came From was a song that fit Travis' way of singing. When Travis was at the top of his career, he was known for a more traditional kind of country music. It was a contrast to the popcountry songs that were popular in the late 1980s.
Lehning talked about the process of making the song. First, another singer recorded the song in what is known as a “demo (试样唱片)”. Then the AI system analysed the song and added Travis' voice to it. Then Lehning worked with Casey Wood, a recording engineer who knew Travis well, to get it perfect. The two music professionals made changes to the speed of some of the sounds. At last, a song “sung” by Travis was created.
“I really wish somebody had been here with a camera,” Lehning said about the experience of watching the computer apply Travis' voice to the song.“And it was shocking to me, because how good it was!”
The final version of the song is much different from the outcome when a computer programmer uses AI to create something without permission.“I seemed to be on the top of the world.” Mary Travis said about the chance to hear her husband's voice in a new song.“Owing to the advanced technology, I have the chance to listen to what I have been wanting.”
She added that her husband had a thoughtful look on his face when he first heard the song.“I think he went through every emotion in those three minutes of just hearing his voice again,” Mary Travis said.

Between the 16th and 17th century, the efforts of France's Jesuits played a key role in the transportation of science and culture between China and the West. Their first mission to reach China dates back to 1552, when St. Francis Xavier arrived on a Chinese island. He died on the island a year later, having never reached the mainland. But three decades later, the Jesuits made a second and successful attempt. During their stay, the Jesuits introduced Western science, mathematics, astronomy, and visual arts to China and took part in philosophical conversations with representatives of Confucianism. Importantly, the Jesuits also took precious art and cultural artworks back to France. Their furniture, architecture and design all became influenced by the Chinese style.
At the beginning of the 19th century, the popularity of chinoiserie (中国风格) continued to increase, particularly in England. Many of the architectures were covered with chinoiserie wallpaper relating to flowers, birds and trees. But shortly after, the popularity began to wane. The appeal of China and East Asia had to compete with other tastes, such as Turkish, Egyptian and Greek.
The first three decades of the 20th century witnessed a revival (复兴) in the popularity of chinoiserie both in Europe and America. Chinese dragons were drawn on cushions, curtains and wallpaper, while Chinese coats and hairstyles proved popular with women. The style was associated with modernity and was a byproduct of World War Ⅰ. Chinoiserie was associated with wealthy, stylish women and attached itself to the boom in entertainment as people dressed up to visit cinemas.
Now, chinoiserie is making yet another comeback. The rise of social media and home blog lifestyle pages has seen demand increase for imitations (模仿) of Chinese artwork and furniture. But critics point out how much of it is based on an idea of Chinese art and design and who actually creates it.

Art and science may seem like opposite things. One means the creative flow of ideas, and the other means cold, hard data—some people believe. In fact, the two have much in common. Now,a study finds art can help students remember better what they learned in science class.
Mariale Hardiman,an education specialist, noticed that students who used art in the class listened more carefully. They might ask more questions. They might volunteer more ideas. What's more, students seemed to remember more of what they had been taught when their science lessons had involved art.To prove that, Hardiman teamed up with some researchers and six local schools.
In the experiment, the researchers worked with teachers in 16 fifthgrade classrooms. They provided traditional science lessons and artfocused ones.In a traditional science class, for example, students might read the information from a book aloud. In the artfocused one, they might sing the information instead.
The team randomly assigned (分配) each of the 350 students to either a traditional science class or an artfocused one.Students then learned science using that way for the whole unit—about three weeks. When they changed to a new topic, they also changed to the other type of class. This way, each student had both an artfocused class and a traditional one. Every unit was taught in both ways,to different groups of students. This enabled the researchers to see how students did in both types of classes.
The team found that students who started off in traditional classes performed better after they moved into an artfocused class. But those who started in an artfocused class did well even when they went back to a traditional science class. These students appeared to use some of the art techniques after going back to a traditional class. Classroom teachers reported that many students continued to sketch (画速写) or sing to help remember the information. “It suggests that the arts may help students apply creative ways of learning on their own,” Hardiman said.

In today's fastpaced (快节奏的) world, screen time is a fact of life. The thought of taking your kids to an art gallery—and them actually enjoying the experience—might seem a thankless and impossible challenge. 36.________ Surely a child won't have the patience to stare at something outside the screen.
Art galleries invite young viewers to interpret and connect with the artwork on a personal level with educational and instructional resources. So art galleries are packed with nutrition (营养) for mind and heart. But many kids are picky eaters, and take galleries as unappealing leftovers. 37.________
Allow your children to fit in on their own terms.Who said that people should stop to look at every picture? 38.________ If they want to head straight for a certain display, it's no big deal. If something far away from the Picasso in the spotlight catches their eye, that's fine.
While it might sound strange, the particular work of art is simply not important. What really matters is that children build a connection with art. 39.________ Involve older children, either with or without a reward, in simple quizzes such as “Who can guess the artist?” or “Who can identify the period it was made?”
40.________ Ask questions like “What exhibit do you find most exciting or boring?” or “How does that painting make you feel?” and discuss your different impressions of the same works. As an added bonus, it will deepen the connection between you and your children. By taking this approach, art is no longer boring but something alive and fascinating to young people.
A.You can make it into a game.
B.How can they find enjoyment?
C.It always catches their interest.
D.Instead, let them control the pace.
E.Talk to your children in the language of emotions.

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面的材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
On the way home from school, my friend, Cherry, happily said,“Tomorrow is Mother's Day. I've been saving up for the past month and planning to buy my mother the perfume (香水) she's been wanting for so long.” Her words made me realize that I hadn't prepared anything special yet. I only had a little money left. I began to regret spending so much on snacks every day. “See you next week!” Cherry's voice interrupted my thoughts. We waved goodbye as she went into a perfume shop.
I continued walking along the road, carefully thinking about what gift I should choose. I had planned to buy things like flowers or chocolate, but now it seemed like those were too simple. Therefore, I pushed the door to a mall open and tried to find a perfect gift. The bright lights lit up a variety of goods. I picked up a lipstick (口红) but immediately put it back after seeing its price. I could never afford that! Then I walked into another shop and saw a lovely cup. I picked it up and turned it over to see the list price, hoping it was not too expensive. But once again, I couldn't afford it even with all the money that I had. Feeling sad, I continued to wander around the shops. Time flew by quickly, and before I knew it, the sky began to darken, so I had to go home.
Since there was no time or money for me to pick out a gift, I decided to make a simple card. When I finished, the clock on my bedroom wall struck eleven. I held up the card, examining its cover, the handwritten letter and the tiny pictures I'd drawn of my mother and me.“It is probably never going to compare with the expensive gifts that my friends buy for their mothers.” I thought sadly.

One possible version:
Soon, morning came, and it was time to give my mother my handmade card. With my heart pounding, I approached her and shyly handed her the card. She took it from my trembling hands and opened it carefully. As she read the words and looked at the little drawings, her eyes began to sparkle with tears. I anxiously waited for her reaction, hoping that she would understand the love and effort I had put into it. My mother's face lit up with excitement, and she pulled me into her arms. “This is beautiful,” she whispered. “It's perfect.”
“I love this card!” my mother said excitedly. She held it close to her chest, as if it had been a priceless treasure. I was surprised to see how much she liked the simple card. “But it's not expensive or special,” I said. “The card that you made yourself means more to me than any storebought gift ever could,” she said, her voice full of emotion. I felt a wave of relief and joy wash over me. At that moment, I realized that the true value of a gift lies in the thought and love behind it, not its price. I finally smiled and hugged her tightly, feeling proud and happy.
