Every country has a special way of welcoming the upcoming year with unique traditions. Here are some ways countries celebrate the new year around the world. Hitting bread on the doors and walls in Ireland In Ireland, it is a custom to hit bread on the doors and walls of one’s house to drive away bad luck and spirits. They hope this will invite new spirits and good luck to welcome the new year. Eating 12 grapes before midnight in Spain As the clock strikes midnight, Spaniards eat 12 grapes, each grape standing for good luck in the whole year. The goal is to swallow all the grapes before the clock stops chiming to gain a year filled with good fortune. Displaying round fruits in the Philippines Similar to the tradition of eating grapes in Spain, Filipino s display 12 types of round fruit on the dining table, symbolizing richness for all 12 months of the year. It is also common to wear dots for the same reason. Interestingly, the symbolism dates back to the round shape of gold and silver coins. Wearing white and jumping through seven waves in Brazil When the clock strikes midnight, Brazilians jump through seven waves while making a wish with each wave. The number seven is connected to the water goddess who is said to guide people through difficulties in the new year. 21. What do the Irish do to celebrate the new year? A. Clean the house. B. Wear new costumes. C. Beat bread on doors. D. Eat bread with families. 22. Why do Filipinos prefer round things during New Year? A. Because the shape is unique. B. Because the shape represents wealth. C. Because the shape shows gratitude. D. Because the shape is easily recognizable. 23. What do the celebrations in the last three countries have in common? A. People offer up prayers to the water goddess. B. People jump through waves and make a wish. C. A certain kind of fruit will be eaten on the day. D. A special number is connected to each celebration. B On the morning of April 20th, I woke up in a panic (恐慌), thinking it was 6 am, but in reality, it was still 3 am. I had a vivid dream where I had overslept. This kind of dream often occurred before important events. Even though I knew I was well-prepared, I couldn’t shake off the worry. After a restless sleep filled with more anxious dreams, my alarm finally went off. I met my friend Jenny and we took an Uber to the race site. The first half marathon was unknown to us. The race began and we navigated (穿过) through a lush forest. We celebrated each mile, but after some tough uphill sections, I began to worry about making it through. As we approached the halfway point, we were cheered on by other runners, which encouraged us further. The downhill journey back was amazing, and we cruised through the second half, deciding to hold hands and cross the finish line together. To our surprise, we won our age and gender group! After the race, we were overjoyed but faced a minor problem — no cellphone service to call an Uber back. Luckily, we met Lisa, Amy, and Robin, fellow runners who offered us a ride. During the car ride, we shared stories about running and life. They inspired me with their passion for running and traveling the world. I loved how running was a universal language that connected people with shared goals of being outdoors and meeting new people. Their attitudes showed me that adulthood could be full of surprises and joy. The half marathon has taught me that the best experiences do not come from the familiar and safe. I’ve realized that I’ll be able to overcome many other unknown challenges of adulthood. I don’t know what they are yet, but my new friends have shown me that adulthood has many beautiful surprises waiting. I can’t wait to see what the next 13.1miles of life will bring. 24. What can we know about the author from the first paragraph? A. Her short sleeping time made her panic. B. She often failed to make full preparations. C. Her alarm clock had a problem now and then. D. She often worried about approaching occasions. 25 What does the underlined word “cruised” in paragraph 2 probably mean? A. Raced effortlessly. B. Moved passively. C. Struggled painfully. D. Walked aimlessly. 26. Which of the following can best describe the car ride? A. Silent and embarrassing. B. Inspiring and connecting. C. Impressive but unbearable. D. Smooth but uncomfortable. 27. What does the author’s experience show? A. Welcome the unknown. B. Better late than never. C. Practice makes perfect. D. Every coin has two sides. C When planning my wedding, I was determined not to get caught up in the “perfect day”, but to have a relaxed, informal celebration. My husband and I ended up having a lovely time. “Pursuit of perfection is a prison,” says Moya Sarner, an NHS psychotherapist. Many of us are driven by the unconscious (下意识的) wish that if we could just have the perfect body, the perfect job and the perfect family, then we would be happy. For that reason, it can be one of the most significant barriers to happiness in life. The psychoanalyst Donald Winnicott wrote about the importance of the “good enough mother” who meets her baby’s needs timely, but is not perfect. He said perfect is harmful. To meet every desire immediately, to pass the toy straight away whenever it is demanded slows down a baby’s growth, robbing them of the opportunity to feel frustrated (沮丧的) and learn to crawl to get the toy for themselves. Winnicott believed that while perfection is not a virtue, tolerance of imperfection is. If we cannot develop the capacity to tolerate imperfection in ourselves and in those around us, we can have no self-confidence, no sustainable relationships and no fulfilling career. If we’re always trying to build something called a perfect life, we aren’t really living the one we’re in. How do I know all this? I am a perfectionist in recovery. I’ve started to recognize my intolerance of imperfection — my need for certain things to be exactly as I would like them to be, from the way my husband chops his onions to my terror of being late — and it has made a huge difference to my relationship and my parenting. How can you be a good partner if you expect everyone else to fit your own narrow expectations? How can your child grow if they sense that they always need to color precisely inside the lines you’ve drawn out for them? We need to go further than tolerating imperfections. We need to learn to appreciate their humanity and beauty. Imperfections are why people will pay a calligrapher to handwrite invitations when a computer can produce a flawless (完美的) version of the same script for less money and in less time. So for a more delicious life, and ultimately a better one, I choose imperfectionism. 28. How does the author introduce the topic? A. By presenting a successful ceremony. B. By showing her firm determination. C. By describing her personal experience. D. By introducing her perfect marriage. 29. What can we learn from the example of the “good enough mother”? A. Raising a child brings a mother much joy. B. Pursuing perfection is the duty of mothers. C. Meeting babies’ demands is very challenging. D. Responding instantly impacts babies’ growth. 30. What is the function of the two questions at the end of Paragraph 5? A. To shift topics. B. To make assumptions. C. To arouse interest. D. To encourage thinking. 31. Which of the following might the author approve of? A. A miss is as good as a mile. B. Haste makes waste. C. Close enough is good enough. D. Practice makes perfect. D An experiment which saw salad seeds sent into space has given hope for the future of growing food on another planet, according to a recently-published study. The findings have appeared after two kilograms of seeds spent six months on board the International Space Station (ISS) with the astronaut, Tim Peake, as part of his Principia mission. There, the seeds could have absorbed up to 100 times more radiation (辐射) than on Earth while being influenced by the violent shaking from the stresses of space travel. When the seeds returned to Earth in 2016, 600,000 children from schools across Britain took part in an experiment, supported by the UK Space Agency, to plant them and monitor their growth, comparing it to that of seeds that had remained on Earth. The results showed that, while the space seeds grew more slowly and were more sensitive to ageing, they were still able to survive. Peake said, “When humans travel to Mars, they will need to find ways to feed themselves, and this research helps us understand some of the biology of seed storage and germination (发芽) which will be important for future space missions.” The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) tasked 8,600 schools and groups across Britain with taking part in the controlled study and recording their results as a scientist would. It was part of a project called Rocket Science, led by the RHS Campaign for School Gardening, in partnership with the UK Space Agency. RHS manager Alana Cama said, “The Rocket Science experiment opened a window into space biology and allowed young people to be at the forefront of creative research.” “This research project did more than just inspire; it furthered our understanding of the challenges around growing plants in unusual environments and the possibility of growing food on long-term space missions in the future. Inspiring a new generation of botanists and biologists will remain our goal to enrich everyone’s lives through plants.” 32. What do the findings of the experiment indicate? A. Salad seeds sent into space turned out to be a failure. B. Astronauts successfully grew salad seeds on Mars. C. The future of growing plants in space looks bright. D. The radiation makes it impossible for plants to survive. 33. Which word can be filled in the blank to complete the research steps? carry the seeds into space → bring them back to Earth → ______ the growing state → make comparisons A. Update. B. Observe. C. Protect. D. Improve. 34. Unlike those on Earth, the seeds sent into space ______. A. can grow 100 times larger in size B. provide enough food for astronauts C. stop growing when returning to Earth D. are more likely to show signs of ageing 35. What can we learn from what Alana Cama said? A. Growing plants in unusual environments is no longer a challenging task. B. A new generation of botanists and biologists takes the lead in the research. C. The project inspires the interests of the young generation in creative fields. D. The exploration of growing food in space is the central mission in the future. Grocery shopping is something everyone has to do. She lived in a small and comfort town where everyone knew each other. One sunny morning, Lily’s teacher announced a school talent show. The news excited Lily immediately, as she had always loved singing and dreamed of performing on stage. Without hesitation, Lily signed up for the show. She chose her favourite song and started practising right away. Every day after school, she would go to the park and sing her heart out, imagining the big stage and the cheering audience. However, as the days passed, Lily faced a big problem. She found it difficult to reach some of the high notes in the song. No matter how hard she tried, her voice just wouldn’t cooperate. Lily started to feel discouraged. She thought about giving up and withdrawing from the talent show. But deep inside, she knew that giving up was not an option. She remembered the words her father always told her, “When life gives you challenges, face them with courage and never give up.” Determined to overcome the obstacle, Lily decided to ask for help. She went to her music teacher, Mrs. Brown, and explained her problem. Mrs. Brown was very kind and patient. She listened to Lily sing and then gave her some useful tips on how to control her voice and reach the high notes. She also encouraged Lily to practise regularly and believe in herself. With Mrs. Brown’s guidance, Lily practised even harder. She spent hours every day working on those difficult notes. Sometimes she felt tired and depressed, but she always reminded herself of her dream. Finally, the day of the talent show arrived. Lily was nervous but excited. As she stepped onto the stage and saw the audience looking at her expectantly, her heart raced. But as soon as the music started, she took a deep breath and began to sing. Lily poured her heart and soul into the song. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ After the show, Lily’s friends and teachers crowded around her. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 英语试题 试卷满分150分 考试时间120分钟 注意事项: 1. What does the woman suggest the man do? C 22. B 23. Hitting bread on the doors and walls in Ireland部分中“In Ireland, it is a custom to hit bread on the doors and walls of one’s house to drive away bad luck and spirits. (在爱尔兰,人们会在自家门和墙上打面包,以驱走厄运和邪灵)”可知,爱尔兰人庆祝新年的方式是在门和墙上打面包。故选C。 【22题详解】 细节理解题。根据Displaying round fruits in the Philippines部分中“Similar to the tradition of eating grapes in Spain, Filipino s display 12 types of round fruit on the dining table, symbolizing richness for all 12 months of the year. It is also common to wear dots for the same reason. Interestingly, the symbolism dates back to the round shape of gold and silver coins. (与西班牙吃葡萄的传统类似,菲律宾人在餐桌上摆放12种圆形水果,象征着一年12个月的富足。出于同样的原因,穿圆点衣服也很常见。有趣的是,这种象征意义可以追溯到金币和银币的圆形)”可知,菲律宾人在新年时更喜欢圆形的东西是因为这种形状代表财富。故选B。 【23题详解】 细节理解题。根据Eating 12 grapes before midnight in Spain部分中“As the clock strikes midnight, Spaniards eat 12 grapes, each grape standing for good luck in the whole year. (午夜钟声敲响时,西班牙人会吃12颗葡萄,每颗葡萄代表着一整年的好运)”、Displaying round fruits in the Philippines部分中“Similar to the tradition of eating grapes in Spain, Filipino s display 12 types of round fruit on the dining table, symbolizing richness for all 12 months of the year. (与西班牙吃葡萄的传统类似,菲律宾人在餐桌上摆放12种圆形水果,象征着一年12个月的富足)”以及Wearing white and jumping through seven waves in Brazil部分中“When the clock strikes midnight, Brazilians jump through seven waves while making a wish with each wave. The number seven is connected to the water goddess who is said to guide people through difficulties in the new year. (午夜钟声敲响时,巴西人会跳过七道浪,每跳一道浪就许一个愿。数字7与水女神有关,据说她能引导人们度过新的一年中的困难)”可知,后三个国家庆祝新年的方式的共同点是每个庆祝活动都与一个特殊的数字有关。故选D。 B On the morning of April 20th, I woke up in a panic (恐慌), thinking it was 6 am, but in reality, it was still 3 am. The race began, and we navigated (穿过) through a lush forest. 24 What can we know about the author from the first paragraph? A. Her short sleeping time made her panic. B. She often failed to make full preparations. C. Her alarm clock had a problem now and then. D. She often worried about approaching occasions. 25. What does the underlined word “cruised” in paragraph 2 probably mean? A. Raced effortlessly. B. Moved passively. C. Struggled painfully. D. Walked aimlessly. 26. Which of the following can best describe the car ride? A. Silent and embarrassing. B. Inspiring and connecting. C. Impressive but unbearable. D. Smooth but uncomfortable. 27. What does the author’s experience show? A. Welcome the unknown. B. Better late than never. C. Practice makes perfect. D. Every coin has two sides. D 25. A 26. B 27. 根据第一段的句子“On the morning of April 20th, I woke up in a panic(恐慌), thinking it was 6 am, but in reality, it was still 3 am. I had a vivid dream where I had overslept. This kind of dream often occurred before important events. Even though I knew I was well-prepared, I couldn’t shake off the worry.(4月20日早上,我惊慌地醒来,以为是早上6点,但实际上,还是凌晨3点。我做了一个生动的梦,梦里我睡过头了。这种梦通常发生在重大事件之前。尽管我知道我准备得很充分,但我还是无法摆脱忧虑。)”可知,作者在重要事件前常做关于迟到的噩梦,且无法摆脱担忧,说明她对即将到来的场合容易焦虑。故选D项。 【25题详解】 词句猜测题。根据上文“The downhill journey back was amazing(回程的下坡之旅棒极了)”可知,下坡路程感觉棒极了,且两人“hold hands and cross the finish line together(手牵手冲过终点)”,说明后半程跑得轻松顺利。 故选A项。 根据第三段的句子“During the car ride, we shared stories about running and life. They inspired me with their passion for running and traveling the world. I loved how running was a universal language that connected people with shared goals of being outdoors and meeting new people. 根据第二段中“I met my friend Jenny and we took an Uber to the race site. The first half marathon was unknown to us.(我遇到了我的朋友珍妮,我们乘优步去了比赛现场。我们对前半程马拉松一无所知。)”以及最后一段的句子“The half marathon has taught me that the best experiences do not come from the familiar and safe. I’ve realized that I’ll be able to overcome many other unknown challenges of adulthood.(半程马拉松教会了我,最好的经历不是来自熟悉和安全的地方。我已经意识到,我将能够克服许多其他未知的成年挑战。)”可知,作者通过这次半程马拉松的经历意识到,最好的体验并不总是来自熟悉和安全的事物,而是能够克服成年生活中许多其他未知的挑战。因此,作者的经历表明我们应该欢迎未知,勇敢地去面对和探索它。故选A项。 C When planning my wedding, I was determined not to get caught up in the “perfect day”, but to have a relaxed, informal celebration. C 29. D 30. D 31. 根据文章第一段“When planning my wedding, I was determined not to get caught up in the “perfect day”, but to have a relaxed, informal celebration. My husband and I ended up having a lovely time.(在计划我的婚礼时,我决定不要陷入“完美的一天”,而是要有一个轻松,非正式的庆祝活动。我丈夫和我度过了一段美好的时光。)”可知,作者通过讲述自己筹备婚礼时摒弃追求完美、选择轻松庆祝的个人经历来引出文章关于追求完美的话题,所以作者是通过描述个人经历来引入话题的。故选C。 【29题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段中“He said perfect is harmful. To meet every desire immediately, to pass the toy straight away whenever it is demanded slows down a baby’s growth, robbing them of the opportunity to feel frustrated (沮丧) and learn to crawl to get the toy for themselves.(他说完美是有害的。立刻满足每一个需求,在孩子一要玩具的时候就马上把玩具递过去,这会减缓婴儿的成长,剥夺了他们感到沮丧以及学会自己爬过去拿玩具的机会)”可知,从“足够好的母亲”的例子中可以推断出,母亲立刻回应婴儿的需求(即追求完美回应)会影响婴儿的成长,让他们失去自我探索和成长的机会。故选D。 【30题详解】 推理判断题。文章第五段结尾的两个问题“How can you be a good partner if you expect everyone else to fit your own narrow expectations? How can your child grow if they sense that they always need to color precisely inside the lines you’ve drawn out for them?(如果你期望每个人都能满足你狭隘的期望,你怎么能成为一个好的伴侣呢?如果你的孩子觉得他们总是需要在你为他们画的线条内精确地涂上颜色,他们怎么能成长呢?)”是在前面讲述了自己作为完美主义者认识到自己对不完美的不容忍以及这种态度对人际关系和育儿的影响之后提出的。这两个问题是为了让读者思考,如果总是期望别人符合自己狭隘的期望,就无法成为好伴侣,孩子也无法真正成长,鼓励读者进行思考。故选D。 【31题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“We need to go further than tolerating imperfections. We need to learn to appreciate their humanity and beauty. Imperfections are why people will pay a calligrapher to handwrite invitations when a computer can produce a flawless (完美的) version of the same script for less money and in less time. So for a more delicious life, and ultimately a better one, I choose imperfectionism.(我们需要做的不仅仅是容忍不完美。我们需要学会欣赏他们的人性和美。不完美是人们愿意花钱请书法家手写邀请函的原因,而电脑可以用更少的钱和更短的时间制作出同样的脚本的完美版本。因此,为了更美好的生活,最终更好的生活,我选择了不完美主义)”可推知,作者会同意的是“差不多就行(了)”,认为达到一定程度、接近预期标准就可以接受,不完美也行。故选C。 D An experiment which saw salad seeds sent into space has given hope for the future of growing food on another planet, according to a recently-published study. C 33. B 34. D 35. 根据第一段“An experiment which saw salad seeds sent into space has given hope for the future of growing food on another planet, according to a recently-published study. (2016年,当这些种子返回地球时,在英国航天局的支持下,英国各地学校的60万名儿童参与了一项实验,他们种植这些种子并监测其生长情况,并将其与留在地球上的种子进行对比)”可推知,研究步骤为:将种子送入太空、将它们带回地球、观察它们的生长状态、然后进行比较,空白处应填入“观察”,以完成研究步骤。故选B。 【34题详解】 细节理解题。根据第五段“The results showed that, while the space seeds grew more slowly and were more sensitive to ageing, they were still able to survive. Inspiring a new generation of botanists and biologists will remain our goal to enrich everyone’s lives through plants. 注意:1. 续写词数应为150个左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Lily poured her heart and soul into the song. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ After the show, Lily’s friends and teachers crowded around her. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: Lily poured her heart and soul into the song. Standing on the stage, her eyes closed, she swung gently with the music. Her voice resounded powerfully and obviously, hitting every note perfectly, especially those high notes that once troubled her. Veins slightly bulged on her neck as she reached for the climax part, and her hands took fast hold on the microphone. The audience sat out of their mind, their eyes fixed on her. When she finished, the whole auditorium erupted into thunderous applause. Lily’s face lit up, and she felt a sense of pride and achievement wash over her, a huge smile spreading across her cheeks. After the show, Lily’s friends and teachers crowded around her. Her friends, eyes wide with admiration, said, “Lily, that was incredible! Every move was so accurate and full of emotion.” Teachers nodded in agreement, adding, “Your devotion really shone through. The countless hours of practice were evident.” Lily stood there, a shy smile on her face. Glancing around at their supportive faces, she truly understood that through her own hard work, never-giving-up spirit and the encouragement she’d received, she was capable of reaching any goal. This performance wasn’t just an event; it was a life-changing lesson she’d treasure forever. 词汇激活 行为类 ①结束:finish/end ②收到:receive/get/obtain ③珍视:treasure/cherish 情绪类 ①钦佩:admiration/esteem ②害羞的:shy/bashful 【点睛】[高分句型1] Her voice resounded powerfully and obviously, hitting every note perfectly, especially those high notes that once troubled her.
