Section Ⅲ  Learning About Language    语法项目——复习名词性从句 It is 4:55 pm now. The basketball match is about to begin, but the problem is that Li Hong hasn't come yet①. It is known that he is a leading part of our team②. Without him, it's difficult for us to win the game. That's why we are worried③. Later, when we heard the news that he would arrive in five minutes④, we were all very happy. When he arrived, he told us that he was stuck in a traffic jam⑤. [语法入门] ①that引导表语从句,起连接作用; ②that引导主语从句,it作形式主语; ③why引导表语从句,作原因状语; ④that引导同位语从句,解释说明the news的具体内容; ⑤that引导宾语从句,起连接作用。 [自主感知] ①What we find out from space research is important for us on Earth. ②It's well­known that the ancient Chinese invented the rocket. ③We think it probable that he will succeed. ④The teacher showed us the controls of the spacecraft and explained how gravity worked. ⑤(教材典句)...her tutor explained that she must acknowledge what other people had said if she cited their ideas, but that he mainly wanted to know what she thought! ⑥The proposal that we (should) import more equipment from abroad is to be discussed at the meeting. ⑦(教材典句)At first, Xie Lei had no idea what she should say ... ⑧The question remains whether they will be able to help us. ⑨(教材典句) ...what surprised her was that she found herself speaking up in class after just a few weeks. [会发现] (1)句①②加黑词引导主语从句;句③④⑤加黑词引导宾语从句;句⑥⑦加黑词引导同位语从句;句⑧⑨加黑词引导表语从句。 (2)句②③⑤⑥⑧⑨中的引导词为连接词,在从句中不作成分;句①⑦中的引导词为连接代词;句④中的引导词为连接副词。 (3)句②中it作形式主语,真正的主语(that引导的主语从句)后置;句③中it作形式宾语,真正的宾语(that引导的宾语从句)后置。 [规则点拨] 名词性从句包括主语从句、表语从句、宾语从句和同位语从句。 一、名词性从句的连接词  1.that (1)that只起连接作用,在从句中不作任何成分,本身也没有词义。 That the earth moves around the sun is known to all. 众所周知,地球围绕太阳转。 John said that he was leaving for London on Wednesday. 约翰说他星期三要去伦敦。 (2)that在引导名词性从句时,常可省略,但在以下情况中,that不宜省略。 ①that引导主语从句位于句首时,不可省略。 ②当动词后带有两个或两个以上that引导的宾语从句时,只有第一个that可以省略,从第二个从句开始,that不可省略。 ③引导表语从句或同位语从句时,that一般不可省略。 The teacher told the students (that) they should hand in their homework the next day and that the homework must be signed by their parents.(宾语从句) 老师告诉学生们应在第二天交上作业,并且作业必须由家长签字。 The fact that he has fully recovered makes me feel happy.(同位语从句) 他已痊愈,这令我感到高兴。 2.whether/if (1)if, whether可引导名词性从句,意为“是否”,只起连接作用。 (2)whether和if有时可通用,下列情况只可用whether: ①引导主语从句并放在句首时; ②引导表语从句、同位语从句时; ③引导介词后的宾语从句时; Whether there is life on the moon is an interesting question. 月球上有没有生命是个有趣的问题。 The question is whether she should have a low opinion of the test. 问题是她是否该对这次测试有一个较低的评价。 There are different opinions about whether space exploration is a waste of time and money. 对于太空探索是否是浪费时间和金钱,(人们)有不同的看法。 [对点练1] (用that/whether/if填空) ①(2024·新高考Ⅰ卷)Just then I realised that I had zero cash in my wallet. ②(2023·新高考Ⅰ卷)When he got older, John started to wonder whether/if this process could be used to clean up the messes people were making. ③That the college will take in more new students this year is true. ④The students asked the question whether the book was worth reading. ⑤Let me know whether or not you can come. ⑥I don't know if/whether he still lives there after so many years. ⑦We are interested in whether you will attend the meeting. ⑧Scientists have obtained more evidence that plastic is finding its way into the human body. ⑨He has made it clear that he will not give in. 3.疑问词who, whom, whose, what, which, where, why, when, how 疑问词引导名词性从句时,其特点是: (1)疑问词在从句中担当句子成分,如主语、宾语、定语或状语; (2)这种疑问词引导的从句一律用陈述语序。 Do you know whom they are looking for? 你知道他们在找谁吗? I don't know who did it. 我不知道谁做的它。 [对点练2] (选词填空) who, whom, whose, what, which, where, why, when, how ①(2023·新高考Ⅰ卷)He decided to build what he would later call an eco­machine. ②(2025·浙江1月高考写作)Kevin then described how the man had been trying to move the floorboard. ③When the delayed flight will take off depends much on the weather. ④I have no idea why Mike refused an offer from Yale University; that's one of his favorite universities. ⑤The problem is who we can get to solve this question. ⑥A straw shows which way the wind blows. ⑦Have you decided whom you are to elect as your assistant? ⑧We haven't decided whose proposal we should adopt. ⑨I can't remember exactly where I put the book that I borrowed from the library last week. 4.whatever, whichever, whoever, whomever whatever, whichever, whoever, whomever可引导主语从句、宾语从句和表语从句,并在从句中作主语、宾语或表语。whatever = anything that, whoever = anyone who。 I will just say whatever comes into my mind.=I will just say anything that comes into my mind. 我想到什么就说什么。 Whoever breaks the rules will be punished.=Anyone who breaks the rules will be punished. 无论谁犯规都将受到处罚。 [对点练3] (选词填空) whatever, whichever, whoever, whomever ①I'll give the ticket to whoever wants it. ②Because the store is so large, Mary has to help people to find whatever they want. ③He was free to marry whomever he chose. ④Whichever of you comes first will receive a prize. 二、it在名词性从句中的应用  1.that引导主语从句有时用it作形式主语,而将that从句后置。 It is quite clear that the whole project is doomed to failure. 很显然,整个计划注定要失败。 It's a pity that you should have to leave. 你非离开不可,真是遗憾。 2.whether/who/what ...等引导主语从句时也常用it作形式主语,而将主语从句后置。 It is not yet decided who will do that job. 还没决定谁将做那项工作。 It is still unknown which team will win the match. 还不知道哪支队伍将赢得比赛。 3.句型find (feel, consider, make, believe)+it (形式宾语)...+宾语从句 I think it best that you should stay here. 我认为你最好待在这儿。 4.句型have [take (认为), put (表达), like, see to]+it (形式宾语)+that从句。 I like it that you came. 你来了,我很高兴。 I take it (that) he will come on time. 我认为他会准时来的。 5.表示喜爱、憎恶等感情的动词用句型enjoy (hate, love, like, dislike, appreciate, prefer)+it(形式宾语)+when/if 从句。 I like it when people are open and straight. 我喜欢人们开朗、坦率。 I really appreciate it when she offered to help. 她主动帮忙,我真的十分感激。 I would prefer it if you would not use such a mocking tone. 如果你不用这种嘲弄的语气说话,我会更喜欢。 [对点练4] (单句语法填空) ①I think it necessary that we take plenty of water every day. ②I hate it when people talk with their mouths full of food. ③I have made it a rule that I keep diaries. ④It is doubtful whether he will come here. Ⅰ.填入适当的连接词 1.What was alarming was that he fell down. 2.I would appreciate it if you could accept my invitation. 3.We have to consider the question of where we can live. 4.Lisa came to her and asked why she was wearing a long face that day. 5.It is my firm belief that only with joint efforts can we have a better tomorrow. 6.(2025·新高考Ⅰ卷)Do we really recognise what it costs us as a society when children can't move safely around our communities? 7.I wondered whether the hummingbird was still thriving, and whether it still remembered me. 8.When asked about how I felt, I really had a wonderful sense of fulfillment and got a taste for writing.
