The sport of mountain climbing began in 1760, when a young Genevan scientist offered a prize for the first ascent (攀登) of Mont Blanc. Today, that spirit lives on in peaks (山顶) worldwide. Here are some of the best.
Ama Dablam
At a mere 6,812 meters, Nepal’s Ama Dablam is the third most popular peak in the Himalayas in terms of permitted climbing expeditions. Peak climbing season here is from April to May and September to October. All climbers are required to get a climbing permit and a liaison (联络) officer.
Table Mountain
Table Mountain is a flat-topped mountain overlooking the city of Cape Town in South Africa. The highest point on Table Mountain is 1,086 meters above sea level. What makes it a fun feature is that, unlike the other mountains on this list, this one can be climbed via a cable car. Hiking up the mountain is also an option.
Mount Fuji
Located in Japan, Mount Fuji is considered a national symbol and UNESCO World Heritage site. Every year, thousands of hikers make the climb to its summit during the official climbing season. Because of its perfect volcanic cone shape and cultural significance, the 3,776-meter-high Mount Fuji attracts both serious climbers and casual tourists. It is the most climbed mountain in Japan that offers breathtaking sunrise views from its peak.
Mount Kilimanjaro
Mount Kilimanjaro is known as the highest mountain in Africa. Towering at 5,895 meters, it is topped with multiple glaciers and an ice field. Its summit is relatively achievable for almost anyone who is fit in terms of both health and bank balances. Just make sure that you pay attention to your guide’s warning to go slowly.
21. Which of the following is more effort-saving?

Audio storytelling (音频叙事) has a timeless charm — and Naomi Shah, founder of Meet Cute, a company specializing in audio romantic comedies, knows this well. Here, the audio form is both traditional and modern. From the start, Meet Cute’s goal was to make stories as quickly as culture changes, Shah says. Acting quickly and reaching listeners where they are, Shah says, lets Meet Cute take part in public talks.
Before founding her own company, Shah joined the investment (投资) team at Union Square Ventures, a company where her work helped founders who gave more people access to knowledge, health, and money.
In general, media companies find it hard to get venture capital (风险资本) — the risk-reward balance is often disappointing. “It’s an industry where you make hundreds of thousands of bets, and maybe only one works,” Shah says. Her team could not find a business owner with a good plan. So Shah decided to start her own. Months later, she turned the idea into a real business plan, and Union Square Ventures gave the first part of $9.3 million in funding.
As for what keeps listeners interested in this timeless medium, Jonah Willihnganz, director of the Stanford Storytelling Project, says that while “film always shows you something that your eyes and mind have to work hard to understand”, audio takes away this extra sensory effort, letting people truly enjoy the story. “It feels very, very close, the connection between voice and listeners. That closeness has a timeless appeal,” Willihnganz says.
In early 2025, Meet Cute was bought by a big company. Shah says this purchase has been the “most amazing” part of her career. She agreed to the sale to grow her goals: Meet Cute can now use many stories owned by the big company, and it has several global platforms. Meet Cute no longer tries hard to compete with huge film companies. Instead, it gives new ideas to big companies. “It’s not over,” Shah says. As its next stage begins, Meet Cute “still has the same magic” for Shah as it did six years ago.
24. What’s the key to the success of Meet Cute?
A. Meeting audience preferences. B. Selecting the latest modern stories.
C. Adopting the video approach. D. Communicating with the public.
25. Why are venture capital companies unwilling to invest in media field?
A. It focuses on limited topics. B. It has no good plans.
C. It has very low success rates. D. It needs a huge amount of money.
26. What makes audio more attractive than film?
A. Rich sensory experiences.
B. Close connection between voice and listeners.
C. Engaging and exciting stories.
D. Personalized and private content.
27. What’s the best title for the text?
A. From Film to the Era of Audio Approach
B. The Poster of a Successful Media Studio
C. The Development of Media Storytelling
D. From Investment Company to Audio Story Firm
C
Andrewsarchus mongoliensis is a large meat-eating animal that walked on hooves (蹄子). It has confused scientists who study ancient life for over 100 years. This special creature was first discovered in Inner Mongolia in 1923. Researchers have studied its huge and well-preserved skull, which is more than 2.7 feet long. The skull has strong teeth that can easily break bones, as well as powerful mouth muscles.
However, scientists have found only a few fossils: the complete skull, some broken jaws and worn teeth. Because of the limited fossils, experts still cannot decide its true body size or correct place in the development of mammals (哺乳动物). People once believed it was the largest meat-eating animal that ever lived on land.
Over the years, scientists’ opinions about Andrewsarchus have changed many times. At first, they thought it was related to thick-headed pig-like animals. Later, some believed it was similar to wolf-like animals or even an early kind of whale living on land. But none of these ideas have been fully proved, as there are not enough complete fossils.
A 2023 study suggested that Andrewsarchus might be close to early pig-like animals that ate both plants and meat. But some scientists say similar body parts may come from similar living environments, not close blood relationship.
Today, Andrewsarchus still remains an enigma to be solved. Although experts know it was huge and could break bones, the exact shape of its head, the length of its legs, and whether it walked on two feet or four remain unknown. Its real body structure will not be clear until more fossils are found in the future.
28. What is a feature of Andrewsarchus?
A. It had powerful teeth to break bones. B. It could run faster than many animals.
C. It was a small meat-eating animal. D. It had a small skull.
29. What makes experts have trouble in learning more about Andrewsarchus?
A. Its wrong position in the mammal tree. B. Its unusual way of living.
C. Its skull of little research value. D. Its limited fossils.
30. What do some scientists think of Andrewsarchus?
A. It was a kind of large pure hunter.
B. It mainly hunted large animals for food.
C. It may be related to early pig-like animals.
D. It had the same body form as living mammals.
31. What does the underlined word “enigma” in the last paragraph mean?
A. A secret or something not understood. B. A huge meat-eating animal.
C. A special kind of fossil. D. A new scientific discovery.
D
It may have been a quiet January transfer (转会) window, but even so, thousands of new shirts will be printed for Lucas Paquetá, returning to his former Brazilian club Flamengo, while his West Ham shirt instantly feels old. Not to mention the thousands of other players moving from one club to another. The good news is that lots of designers are bringing their upcycling skills to old kits (球衣).
As in the case of designer Hattie Crowther, she completely transformed them into one-of-a-kind headpieces (头巾). “I’m here to redefine what already exists and give it meaning, context, and longevity while staying culturally relevant,” says Crowther. Crowther’s project is just one example of how women are leading this reinvention and rethinking of football shirts. The clothing store Vintage Threads has a rework service transforming old football shirts into new, custom pieces. Many of its customers are women who want something that’s maybe more their style than a big football shirt that doesn’t fit them well. That’s why we had a lot of interest in shirred (抽褶) football shirts last summer. It just makes it a little bit cuter.
Of course, not all clubs release kits in such excess (过度). My football shirt, Walthamstow FC’s kit, ran for two seasons. The celebration of heritage through a local hero and the use of unique design made it more than a football shirt. It was a symbol of pride and a fashion statement that I wore around my home town.
Some clubs are already starting to see the long-term benefits of a circular business model. In 2024 and 2025, Brighton teamed up with a sustainable upcycling brand to create bags and hats from misprinted youth football shirts. Nicole Bekkers, founder and CEO of the brand, says football clubs are more open to upcycling than in the past. “Once clubs see the financial and fan engagement upside, it causes broader conversations for future kits.” But, she says, upcycled designs need to look good. Otherwise, fans won’t buy it. The real impact comes when products are collectible and desirable.
32. Why is the story of Lucas Paquetá mentioned in the first paragraph?
A. To show football shirts are popular. B. To introduce the issue of kits waste.
C. To explain the context of football shirts. D. To praise designers’ upcycling skills.
33. How do women lead the upcycling of football shirts?
A. By improving the shirts’ practical value. B. By making matching headpieces.
C. By promoting football culture. D. By designing kits in the same style.
34. Why is the author’s football shirt not out of style?
A. It fits any season well. B. It’s designed for famous players.
C. It matches popular taste. D. It carries local heritage and spirit.
35. What’s the text mainly about?
A. Making football kits fit better. B. Giving old football shirts a new life.
C. Reducing environmental cost of kits. D. Cutting overproduction of football shirts.

Preserving cultural and historical heritage isn’t just the job of experts, institutions, or governments. It’s the responsibility of the entire community, and it starts with the youngest among us. 36 They are passed down through generations. To ensure these stories continue, we must give young people a sense of ownership. Here are some effective ways.
Make local culture part of daily lessons. The first and most influential place where children begin to understand their heritage is at school. By making local culture part of daily lessons, educators can foster a deep appreciation for their roots. 37 One fun week of local songs, food, and stories seeds lifelong pride.
38 Storytelling is a powerful way to spread culture and history. We can organize “storytelling days” where grandparents, uncles, aunts, and community elders share family stories, folk tales, and cultural legends. This fosters respect for elders while giving young people a personal connection to their heritage.
Encourage responsibility through family heritage. Encouraging families to share their histories and traditions can cultivate a lasting sense of responsibility for cultural preservation. Families can continue or revive traditions such as cooking special meals together, participating in cultural ceremonies, or learning traditional dances. 39
Use technology to connect the past and future. In the digital age, technology can be a powerful tool in helping young people understand their heritage. 40 They allow young people to experience heritage firsthand. This digital preservation builds a meaningful bridge to the future.
A. Encourage spoken traditions and storytelling.
B. Document oral histories with families together.
C. Our cultures, traditions and histories are living stories.
D. Virtual tours and interactive apps make history engaging.
E. World Heritage sites provide a good connection to the past.
F. Schools can pick a week to celebrate local culture and history.
G. These practices ground children in their heritage and create lasting memories.

Milo was a third-grade student. One morning, with the school bell due to ring in just minutes, he was running desperately through the grocery store parking lot. His teacher Mrs. Grant had warned him the day before that if he was late one more time, she would call his parents.
Halfway across the lot, Milo froze. Sun beat down on a silver car. Inside the car, a little boy was tied in a seat. His small hands waved weakly. His face was red, and his cheeks had lines of tears. The window was closed tight. Sweat shone on the boy’s head. Milo was terrified, but when he looked around, there was no one else. Milo’s stomach turned. Heat could kill faster than anyone imagined. He dropped his backpack, ran to the car, and desperately pulled at every handle — all locked. He hit the window again and again in panic, but the parking lot was still empty. No one came.
Milo looked around wildly, and then he remembered the security guard’s booth (小隔间) near the store entrance. Without another thought, Milo took off running, shouting as he went. He burst into the small booth, breathless, and poured out his story to the surprised guard.
Within minutes, the guard was on the radio, and a store manager came rushing out with a special tool to unlock the door of the car. As the door opened, a blast of hot air escaped. The boy’s cries, now loud and clear, filled the quiet lot. Milo watched, his own fear fading, as the manager gently lifted the sweating boy and held him close.
A few minutes later, a young woman came hurrying out of the store, her arms full of bags. Her face went pale when she saw the crowd around her car. She dropped the bags and ran forward, tears springing to her eyes as the manager placed her son safely in her arms. She had only run in for medicine quickly, she explained, her voice trembling with regret. She never meant to be more than a minute.

(2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

M: Hello. International Friends Club. Can I help you?
W: Oh, hello. I read about your club in the paper today and I thought I’d phone to find out a bit more.
M: Yes, certainly. Well, we are a sort of social club for people from different countries. It’s quite a new club — we have about 50 members at the moment, but we are growing all the time.
W: That sounds interesting. I’m British actually, and I came to Washington about three months ago. I’m looking for ways to meet people. Er, what kinds of events do you organize?
M: Well, we have social get-togethers, and sports events, and we also have language evenings.
W: Could you tell me something about the language evenings?
M: Yes. Every day except Thursday we have a language evening. People can come and practice their languages —you know, over a drink or something. We have different languages on different evenings. Monday — Spanish; Tuesday — Italian; Wednesday — German; and Friday — French. On Thursday we usually have a meal in a restaurant for anyone who wants to come.
W: Well, that sounds great. I really need to practice my French.
M: OK. Well, if you can just give me your name and address, I’ll send you the form and some more information. If you join now, you can have the first month free.

M: Probably Tokyo. It has more shops and a bigger selection. But it’s also more expensive. In fact, it might be the most expensive city in the world.

W: When I was 14, I was staying with my grandfather when he had a heart attack. Luckily, he was taken to the hospital and got better, but it was very frightening. From that experience, I knew I needed to learn what to do if someone like my grandfather got sick or hurt. So, just after my 15th birthday, I took a first aid course. First aid is the quick help given to a person with a medical problem. I learned a lot that day! I had to use my skills just a year later. My friend cannot eat nuts, but she accidentally ate a chocolate cake that had nuts in it. Within seconds, she could not breathe and became very sick. I knew it was time to use my training. I asked someone to call for help while I gave my friend first aid, which saved her life. I was very happy to help, and I think everyone should take a first aid course!

参考范文:
Dear Tom,
I’m thrilled to hear you’re planning to visit China! I highly recommend you experience the Spring Festival, which falls in late January or early February.
It’s the most important traditional festival in China. Families gather for a reunion dinner on New Year’s Eve. We eat dumplings, watch the Spring Festival Gala, and set off fireworks at midnight. Children receive red envelopes with lucky money. The streets are decorated with red lanterns, creating a joyful atmosphere.
I sincerely invite you to celebrate it with my family this year. You can taste homemade dumplings and learn to write “Fu” characters. I’m sure you’ll love the warm family atmosphere and rich traditions.
Yours,
Li Hua

When Milo rushed to his classroom, he was fifteen minutes late. Mrs. Grant was very angry and stared at Milo. Her face was serious. She reminded him of her warning about not being late again. She said this time, she had to follow the rule. She told Milo that he must bring one of his parents to school the next day to meet with her. She wrote a note for him to take home and give to his parents. Milo took the note, feeling very worried about what his parents would say.
At break, the young mother came to the classroom together with Mrs. Grant. She was holding her son, who was now safe and calm. The mother explained to the whole class what Milo had done to save her son from the hot car this morning. She called Milo a little hero and gave him a big hug. Mrs. Grant walked to Milo’s desk and took back the note. She told Milo he didn’t need to bring his parents anymore because he had done something very brave and right. The whole class clapped for Milo.
