Did you know that some people in Britain live in boats instead of houses? It’s too expensive to buy a house. So people choose the “floating (漂浮的) houses”. There were over 35,000 boats on rivers in England and Wales in 2022. Many are people’s main homes.
One month, I’d be in the heart of the city; the next, I parked next to cows in the countryside,” he said. Liam Quinn, a 37-year-old musician, lived happily on a narrow boat (运河船) for five years in London. “I loved waking up to the water and swans.”
A small boat costs (花费) between 50,000 pounds (英镑) (about 456,000 yuan) and 100,000 pounds. That’s cheaper than buying an apartment (公寓) in London. In the richest places, the price of an apartment averages (平均) around 600,000 pounds.
But boat life isn’t all fun. Quinn had to move his boat every two weeks and clean the toilet every day. Yuck!
Still, Quinn loved his watery home. “You learn to fix things and make friends with others. Everyone is friendly and helpful!” he said.

Passage 3
(24-25八年级下·四川省巴中市恩阳区·期中)
阅读下面短文,根据其内容,完成所缺信息,写在答题卡相应位置。
There are usually few things people want to do less than housework. But while doing the dishes and cleaning the house seem like troublesome and boring things, a new study has found just how important they are to our health and happiness.
In fact, scientists now believe cleaning the house is more important to mental(心理的) and physical health than other things, such as the city they live in and how much money they save. Experts at Case Western Reserve University say doing housework is helpful because of the exercise it takes to get the job done, which in turn influences(影响) mental health.
Dr. Kathy Wright and a team at the university’s Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing wanted to find out how money, education , environment and health habits, like smoking(吸烟) , influence the elders’ health. The 337 persons taking part in the study, from 65 to 94 years old, had to have at least one chronic(慢性的) illness. It was impossible for them to do at least one necessary thing by themselves, such as taking a shower and dressing.
To Dr. Wright’s surprise, doing housework and keeping their money influenced their mental and physical health more than other things. “Housecleaning kept them up and moving,” said Dr. Wright. “It’s important for the elders with chronic illnesses to do some housework. A clean environment is helpful in giving medical care to some illnesses.” The study also showed what Dr. Wright had seen in her visits: people living in a dirty environment seemed less satisfied than those in a place that was tidy.
Now that doing housework is so important to us, there is no excuse not to do it. Let’s get it started right now!

Passage 1
(24-25八年级下·四川省成都高新区银都紫藤初中学校·期中)
根据短文内容,完成表格中所缺的信息。
Whenever the exam season (季) comes, stress may come along. Here are some ways that have helped me and my friends go through this season.
When the stress of exams is really hitting me, I stop and take a walk. I usually borrow my neighbor’s dog and walk for about fifteen minutes. Many boys would simply choose to run for a while, or play ball games. All these help drive away your stress easily most of the time.
And if you find music helpful, give it a go. Listening to your favorite songs will surely make you relaxed. The best thing is that you just need to stay where you are silently and enjoy it.
But if you are a book lover just like me, read a book you like for half an hour. Reading can take you to places you’ve never been to. Putting yourself into a new world helps you forget your stress in this world for a little bit.
For sure, there’s nothing better than laughing. It can really keep worry off your mind! Very often I call my best friend and we talk about our good times or something funny on the phone, and I’m feeling better because I laugh a lot.
Remember many others also face the problem of stress just like you, and it is not something that you can’t deal with.
Ways of Going Through the Exam Season
1
· Take a walk.
· Run.
· Play ball games.
Listening to music
· It will make you less stressed.
·And you don’t have to 2 .
Reading books

根据文章内容,用自己的语言概括并补全阅读报告。在空白处填入恰当的单词、短语或句子。
If our time is our most valuable thing, maybe we should be surprised how willingly (乐意地) we waste it.
I’ve read when smokers give up the habit, their lungs (肺) begin to repair themselves. So could it be true that our brains are boring by hours of phone use?
One day, something touched me and I decided to stop my phone addiction (上瘾) habit to live my life fully (充实地).
Of course, a complete change was impossible because the phone was part of our daily life. My new rules allowed for basic uses such as texting, calling, checking the news and making planned searches. Also, online shopping and social media (媒体) use should be limited. But my No.1 rule was simple: Do not pick up the phone as a reflex (反射动作) to kill boredom.
Reducing my screen time has caused a lot, which is quite interesting. Just a few days after giving up the habit, I’ve read two books and I’ve had more creative ideas for writing projects in the last week than I had in the last year. More interestingly, I’ve also had more active communication with someone I don’t know, whether it’s giving out a praise, laughing at something funny, or taking an extra moment to hold open a door.
We’ve given the little computers in our hands far more of our time and attention than they should. They’ve become crutches (拐杖), giving us excuses. But the funny thing is, when we put them down, we’ll fill our time in a wise way.
And we may just discover a new enjoyment of old pleasures or new ones, which makes our brains fresh and new instead of being weak in ways we’d almost forgotten.

在短文后表格中的空白处填入适当的单词 (注意:每空1个单词)。
It seems that everyone tells lies (谎话)—well, not big lies, but “white lies”. Telling white lies is not really that bad. Most of the time, people do it because they want to protect friendship or they don’t want to do something. For example, someone invites you to a party, you think it will be boring, so you say you’re busy.
Lying to make someone feel good
Often we don’t tell the truth to make someone feel good. For example, your friend cooks dinner for you, but it tastes terrible. Do you say so? No! You probably say, “Mmm, this is delicious!”
Lying to hide bad news
Sometimes, we don’t want to tell someone bad news. For example, you have just had a terrible day at work, but you don’t want your family to worry about you. So if your parents ask you about your day, you just say everything is fine.

Chen Yujie, 14, from Ningbo, Zhejiang, is a lucky girl. She got 3, 600 yuan as lucky money this Spring Festival. However, her mother took away all the money and put it in a bank.
Many students experienced the same thing as Chen. They got their lucky money, but it was taken away at once. Xiong Shengyue, 14, from Nanjing, doesn’t agree with the practice. “I think the money should be the children’s,” she said. “We should take care of it by ourselves.”
“It is not that simple,” said Chu Chaohui, a researcher at National Institute of Education Sciences. “Giving lucky money is used to show social status (地位) and develop relationships, he told Beijing News. Lucky money has lost its traditional meaning of good wishes and has “little to do with the children”. What’s more, children don’t work but get the money. So he thought that parents should still play a big part in dealing with the money.
But Yan Honglan, a mother of a 14-year-old boy in Beijing, has let her son be in control of his lucky money since the age of 8. “I want to develop his financial (理财的) skills,” Yan said. She also added, “No matter how you deal with the money, the most important thing is to make the children feel they’re respected and trusted.”
Chen supported Yan’s idea. She said that though she knew her mother wouldn’t waste her lucky money, she would feel happier if she could at least know how the money is spent. “It would make me feel a little more grown-up,” she said.
Xiong Shengyue:
The money should be the children’s, and they should look after the lucky money by 3 .

How did you spend your last holiday? Were you looking at your cellphone screens and surfing the Internet from morning till night? Well, you’re not alone. It seems that many people are now online nearly all the time. According to a new survey, on average, Chinese people spend five and a half hours on the Internet every day.
Let’s be honest. What do you usually use the Internet for? For many people (not just Chinese people), it’s mainly to watch short videos and to check out new memes (表情包). Instead of helping you relax, these low-value videos and memes make it difficult for you to think. The Oxford Word of the Year, “brain rot (脑腐)”, best describes this global problem.
Why does the problem take place? Watching these types of short videos and memes without a stop is just like eating your favorite snack. Once you start, it’s hard to stop. It’s also an easy way to kill time. It takes you a couple of hours to enjoy yourselves in different websites and apps. You can’t realize it until it is too late. It seems that you can have fun easily.
But this “easy fun” has its bad effects on people. The more time you spend on the Internet, the less real-life joy you will have. While you are having a “good” time on Xiaohongshu and Bilibili, you are missing the beauty and happiness of the real world. Over time, you feel like your lives are getting more and more boring.
It’s time to bring back “real fun.” Your friends or family and you should try to breathe in the fresh air and relax in the warm sunlight. I’m sure that you can enjoy the beauty of nature successfully. Fill your day with pleasant birdsong. Just don’t let your screens take over your free time and leave your brain “rotting”!
Don’t let your brain “rot”
What the problem is
●“Brain rot” is The Oxford Word of the Year. It describes the situation that many people spend a lot of time 1 .

Maybe there’s something personal you want to share with your parents. Or you’re feeling stressed about something. When it comes to difficult topics, you may not know how to talk to your parents. Here is some advice.
Think about what you want from your parents.
Do you want them to listen and hear you out? Or help with a problem you’re having? It helps if you know what you want. Put it into words. For example, “I need to tell you about a problem I’m having.” “I need your advice about something. Can we talk?” “I have difficulty getting on with my deskmates. Could you please tell me what I should do?”
Think about how you feel.
Are you afraid that your parents will be angry or sad because you get in some trouble? Don’t let those feelings stop you from talking. Parents are always there for us when we are in trouble. Instead, put your feelings into words. For example, “I need to talk to you. But I’m afraid I’ll let you down.”
Practice before you talk.
When it comes to talk time, you may be afraid to start or forget what you want to say. Then, try practicing what you want to say in front of a mirror. Or practice with a friend. Practice can help you feel more comfortable when you’re talking.
Pick a good time and place to talk.
Find a time when your parents aren’t busy. Ask, “Can we talk? Is now a good time?” Try to find a space where there are no other people around. And then, just get started.

World’s First Medical Rescue Drone Appears in China
By DU JUAN| chinadaily. com.cn
Updated: 05:55 pm (GMT+8), April 10, 2025
China has made something really cool—the world’s first emergency medical rescue drone (无人机)! It was made by China State Shipbuilding Corporation’s Haishen Medical Technology Co, along with the Chinese Academy of Sciences (中国科学院) and other industry partners. You could see it at this week’s China International Medical Equipment Fair.
This drone is super useful. It has many medical features. It can help with breathing, give people medicine through an IV (静脉注射), check important body signs, shock a heart that’s not beating right (defibrillation除颤), and even send live videos from far away.
Huang Yuhong, the boss and top engineer of CSSC Haishen Medical Technology Co, said the drone can work in tough places. Think about the wet, salty, and rough seas or really cold (-25℃) or hot (46℃) places. It can even fly as high as 5000 meters up! It can find people who need help, give them first-aid right away, and quickly take them to safety.
The drone weighs 600 kg and can carry 300 kg. It can fly by itself using waypoint navigation (航线跟踪) or just hover (悬停) in one place. People on the ground can also control it from far away. This makes it great for quickly helping out during disasters or when diseases spread.
In the future, the company will keep adding new and cool technologies like biomanufacturing, quantum (量子) technology, and 6G to medical rescue tools. This will help China’s smart medical rescue equipment get even better.

How do astronauts live in space?
Are you interested in the life of astronauts in space? Do you know how they eat, sleep and bathe in space? Next we will tell you some useful information.
How do the astronauts eat in space?
Like people on the earth, the astronauts also have three meals every day. They stored their food in some special locker trays. They can help stop the food from flying away. The astronauts need to heat their food before they eat. It takes them about 20 to 30 minutes to finish this step.
How do the astronauts sleep in space?
We all know that things are easy to float in space, and so are the bodies of the astronauts. To solve the problem, their bodies will be strapped when they sleep. The astronauts can be stopped from floating away in this way. The astronauts have bedtimes. They usually sleep for 8 hours a day.
How do the astronauts shower in space?
Because of the effect of zero gravity (重力), the astronauts don’t have the luxury of taking showers in outer space. Water can’t flow the way as it does on the earth, so the astronauts have to use other methods to keep themselves clean. For example, they use wet towels and waterless shampoos (免洗洗发水).

As people become richer and richer (富有), the prices of new cars are falling down quickly. The government has built many new roads. Many Chinese people think it is enjoyable to have their own cars instead of bikes. The large number of cars has started a new cultural revolution (革命), changing the life and society.
In Shanghai, more and more cars have appeared (出现) on the roads since 2002. At rush hour, it can take more than an hour for a taxi to ride from one side of Huangpu River Bridge to the other side. As the government has done a lot to make the traffic condition better, the number of cars on the roads is rising all the time.
Private (私人的) cars have brought about a new class of society, who drive to their offices from large, modern houses in the suburbs (郊区). “I enjoy the drive,” said a big company manager of the 30-minute-trip to his office in the center of Shanghai. “I know that driving cars costs more money than travelling by bus,” he said. “But this way, I feel more comfortable and it is much faster.”

It will be normal for students to cook in the classroom. The next kind is about making something by hand and using new technologies(科技), such as 3D printing and laser cutting(激光切割). The third one is service work. Students can volunteer to do something in the neighborhood.
Most parents welcome such classes. They think it is necessary for kids to learn some life skills. Liu Fang, a mother of a 6-year-old boy in Zunyi, agrees to have the classes.

Because of zero gravity (重力), the astronauts don’t have the chance to take showers in outer space. Water isn’t able to run the way it does on the Earth, so the astronauts have to use other ways to keep themselves clean. For example, they use wet towels and waterless shampoos (免洗洗发水).

Nice to meet you! My name is Zhai Zhigang. I’m from Longjiang, Heilongjiang province. I am the commander (指挥官) of the Shenzhou XIII manned mission. I became one of China’s first astronauts in 1998. In 2008, I carried out the Shenzhou VII manned mission and became the first Chinese astronaut to leave the space capsule. In my spare time, I like watching TV shows. I downloaded (下载) many movies and TV series videos for this trip.
Ye Guangfu, 41
Hello, I am Ye Guangfu. I come from Chengdu, Sichuan province. I like flying. I used to be a pilot. In 2010, I became the youngest member of the second batch (一批) of Chinese astronauts. I like learning English and I can explain my training in English fluently (流利地). The Shenzhou XIII manned mission is my first flight into space. I trained for 11 years to get ready.
Wang Yaping, 41
Hello, everyone. I’m Wang Yaping. I come from Yantai, Shandong province. I am the first female (女性的) Chinese astronaut to enter the Tiangong space station. On Nov 7, I had a 6.5-hour spacewalk with Zhai. It made me China’s first woman to walk in space! It’s not my first time in space. In 2013, I carried out the Shenzhou X manned mission. For this trip, I brought a toy rabbit with me. My daughter gave it to me.
