1.Look at the sentence from paragraph 2 in the first blog post,“It is these skills that enable us to develop lifelong friendships.” What do “these skills” refer to?
“These skills” refer to social skills, like concentrating or showing kindness to others.
2.In the second blog post, what does Eileen Kennedy-Moore mean when she says that online friends “fill holes real-life friends can't”? Give your reasons.
Online communication is a solution when there are difficulties with face-to-face communication, for example, people live far apart. A person suffering from social anxiety may find it easier to talk to people online, etc.
3.Does the Internet help or harm friendships? Voice your opinion.
We ought to make use of the Internet properly and smartly. As long as we can develop a good relationship with friends, there is no cause for concern about the Internet.
1.While the Internet can bring people closer together, it can also harm friendships.
2.Because of this, going online can be particularly dangerous for people who are easily influenced or too trusting.
①While I admit his good points (虽然我承认他的优点), I can see his shortcomings.
②If the rice isn't cooked properly, it will taste very awful.
1....communicating through a screen makes it more difficult for children to concentrate or show kindness to others.
是v.-ing短语作主语;在makes it more difficult for children to ...中,it是形式宾语,真正的宾语是不定式to concentrate or show kindness to others。
2.For example, instead of having proper conversations with their friends, some people are only concerned with their online popularity — How many “likes”did I get? How many followers do I have?— though we know that the number of “likes” or followers cannot compare to having long-term and rewarding friendships.
本句主干是 some people are only concerned with their online popularity,破折号之间的两个疑问句是对前面内容的解释和说明。
3.Friendships are built on the basis of trust, and with online communication you can never be 100 percent sure that the people you are chatting to are being honest about who they are.
赏析:本句中and连接并列句;第二个分句中that引导宾语从句;you are chatting to是定语从句,修饰先行词the people;who they are是宾语从句,作介词about的宾语。
①He's going to buy the farm even though they raise the price. (although)
→Although they raise the price, he's going to buy the farm.
②Taking exercise has made a big difference to my health.
③Moreover, the Internet makes it easy for friends and family to keep connected even if they are on opposite sides of the world.
①Firstly ... Secondly ... Thirdly ... In my opinion, friends should focus more on face-to-face communication, and less on online communication. This is the best way to maintain healthy relationships.
②Firstly ... Secondly ... Thirdly ... Finally, I believe the Internet brings people closer together and makes communication with friends more convenient and interesting.
①First of all/Firstly 首先, you should build up your selfconfidence. Only when you are confident will you overcome the fear of your look. ②Second/Secondly/Besides 其次, you should keep it in mind that one's beauty lies in his spirit other than appearance outside. What really matters is having a positive value. ③Finally/Last but not the least 最后值得一提的是, you'd better make the most of your gifts so as to improve and make up for your weaknesses, which as a result will promote your selfconfidence.
As Eileen Kennedy-Moore, an authority on the subject, points out, online friends “fill holes real-life friends can't”.
As Albert Einstein once said,“Anyone who has never failed has never tried anything new.”,正如阿尔伯特·爱因斯坦曾经说过的,“任何从未失败过的人都从未尝试过任何新事物。”
