In Tongcheng City, Anhui Province, a 2-meter-wide
alley called Liuchi (六尺巷) sits quietly between two old gray walls.
Though it's not so . .1. . as most streets, thousands of . .2. . come here
every year, especially during the Spring Festival.#1
The story begins in the 17th-century Qing Dynasty. Two . .3. . neighbor
families—the Zhangs and Wus—argued about building walls . .4. .. Both
had powerful relatives working for the emperor. The Wus wanted more
land. The Zhangs . .5. . to move back. Their servants even threw
vegetables at each other!

The local leaders couldn't do . .6. . to help. So the Zhangs wrote to
their family member Zhang Ying . .7. . was a top officer. Instead of
sending soldiers, Zhang Ying wrote a poem: “A letter from home asks
for walls, but six feet yield what weapons never will. The Great Wall
still stands, yet emperors fall—What's lost when neighbors show
goodwill?” (一纸家书只为墙,让他三尺又何妨。长城万里今犹在,不见
当年秦始皇。)
Moved by these words, Master Zhang ordered his wall to be
moved . .8. . 3 chi (about 1 meter). Seeing this, the Wu family also did
the same. Six chi (about 2 meters) of empty space . .9. ..
Today, visitors touch the warm stone walls and read the poem
carved on a rock. We all know: “This alley isn't about who was right,
but about being kind.” Its story teaches us that sometimes taking a
small . .10. . back can bring people closer together.#5

Dou Nan, a small village in Yunnan Province, is Asia's
largest flower trading market, providing about 70% of the flowers sold in
China. Although it has only around 40,000 people, the village exports
(出口) flowers to over 40 countries. In 2024, the export value of Dou
Nan's flowers reached 1.2 billion yuan. The area's success is because of
its great natural conditions, with plenty of rain, warm temperature all year,
and the high altitude (海拔) which ensures plenty of sunlight—necessary
for flowers to grow well.#1
10
In the 1980s, the Chinese government allowed farmers in Dou Nan
to choose whatever they want to grow. Many turned to flowers because
they would make more money. Over time, the market grew with Chinese
government's help and faster deliveries (投递), making Dou Nan quite
successful in the global (全球的) flower trade.
The growth of flower sales online has also helped the area. More
than 5,000 people in Dou Nan now sell flowers through live streaming
(直播). One live streaming page on the Internet has over 6.3 million
followers, and their highest daily sales reached over 10 million yuan.
The Belt and Road pushes the development of Dou Nan's industry,
which not only offers more business chances, but also adds a larger
market share in the international market. Now Dou Nan's flowers are
becoming famous around the world, helping more people learn about
