China is taking important steps in a three-year “Weight Management
Year” program from 2024 to 2027. This is mainly because obesity (肥胖)
can lead to serious health problems like diabetes (糖尿病) and heart
disease.
Checking your BMI (Body Mass Index) is necessary. For adults, a
healthy BMI is between 18.5 and 24. A BMI between 24 and 28 means
you are overweight, and 28 or higher means obesity. Also, doctors
suggest men keep their waists (腰) under 90 cm and women under 85
cm.
10
Eating right is important. Choose whole grains, fresh vegetables, and
lean proteins (精瘦蛋白质). Avoid fried foods and sugary snacks. The
guidelines even include regional dishes like “stewed fish” from Northeast
China or “noodles with chili oil” from the Northwest. This makes healthy
eating more attractive.
Exercise is also important. Aim for 150-300 minutes of activities
such as walking, cycling, or dancing each week, along with strength
exercises twice a week. If you sit for long while studying, stand up and
stretch every hour.
Small daily habits matter. Teens should get 7 hours of sleep nightly
as poor sleep can cause weight gain (增加). Eating vegetables first, then
meat and finally rice or bread can help control portion sizes.
Schools and communities are also joining in. Shanghai schools make
sure that students exercise at least two hours a day, and hospitals offer
“weight clinics” full of diet plans, exercise tips and traditional Chinese
methods like acupuncture(针灸).
Remember, losing weight doesn't mean fighting for perfection. Just
start with small changes and everyone can build a healthier future.#1.6
