As the first snows of the season start to fall, mountain towns across the Alps welcome winter visitors with smart new hotels. And this year is no different. Here are the best resorts (旅游胜地) to bed down in the Alps this season.
Experimental Chalet, Val d’Isère
France’s ski resort welcomes the newest hotel offering from the Experimental cocktail group. With the rebuilding of this lodge, you’ll find two new restaurants, a spa and a cocktail bar. In a resort filled with après-ski, this looks set to stand in a class of its own. From €423 (£356) per night, room only.
The Brecon, Adelboden
Welsh chef Bryn Williams opened a restaurant here in the Swiss Alps a few years ago. Run in summer 2024, the Brecon rewards visitors with a 1960s style, a panoramic (全景的) living room, outdoor pool and kitchen. It also provides access to the valley’s three ski areas. From €650 (£580) per night, all-inclusive.
Eriro, Ehrwalder Alm
On the fringe (边缘) of the busy Austrian Tyrol resorts is hardly-heard-of Ehrwalder Alm. Accessible only by cable-car, Eriro is the resort’s only ski in, ski out hotel. Add in guided nature hikes and you’ll find it all wonderfully distinct from the traditional Austrian resort. From €1,550 (£1,300) per night, all-inclusive.
Der Böglerhof, Alpbach
This hotel near beautiful Alpbach has a timeless devotion to health and well-being. The valley’s great place to stay has also had a makeover (翻新), with a new wellness complex, outdoor pool, yoga studio and expanded family spa. And around it all is the peaceful 70-mile Ski area. Jaden Anthony, a boy from Brooklyn, New York, was born with a disease called diabetes (糖尿病), a condition that often leaves him feeling thirsty. Deeply aware of the importance of clean water, he became concerned when he learned of the water crisis in Flint, Michigan.
In 2014, the city began using water that contained dangerous levels of lead (铅), which is harmful to all, especially children. Even small amounts could cause diseases and affect learning abilities. Therefore, Jaden wanted to do something to help the kids in Flint.
Being a comic book fan, Jaden decided to create his own to raise awareness about clean water and donate funds. “Kid Brooklyn,” he explained in an interview, “aims to make both kids and adults recognize global dangers.”
In the first book of a series, the main character Kid Brooklyn and his friends are given an unusual Sun Stone that helps them develop super powers. They use those powers to keep the planet clean and safe. Jaden works with illustrators to bring the characters and stories to life. Jaden was twelve years old when his first book was published in October 2017. A dollar from every book Jaden sells is donated to Green for All, an organization to bring clean, fresh water to the families in Flint.
Future issues of the comic will promote different environmental causes. Jaden wants to encourage children all over the world to become scientists and engineers who can fix the problems caused by climate change. He also has a message for the kids of the world who don’t have the same access to clean water as he has. “Don’t get sad. Don’t lose any hope. We got you.”

If you lack time to exercise during the working week, don’t worry. A study of nearly 90,000 participants in the UK suggests that putting all your weekly exercise on weekends still has significant health benefits compared with being inactive. In this study, participants who cram all their recommended weekly physical activity into one or two days are referred to as “weekend warriors”.
The researchers collected data from 89,573 volunteers by requiring them to wear a wrist device (手腕设备) to track their weekly physical activity. These participants were then divided into three groups based on their exercise patterns (模式): regular exercisers, who spread their exercise throughout the week; weekend warriors, who did most of their exercise in one day or two; and inactive participants. After grouping the participants, the researchers compared their health records to examine the related health benefits.
The study found that, compared with those who were inactive, weekend warriors and regular exercisers experienced similar health benefits, with both groups having a lower risk of developing more than 200 diseases. Specifically, the strongest effects were for cardiometabolic diseases. Both groups had a 20%lower risk of high blood pressure and a 40%lower risk of diabetes.
Dr. Shaan Khurshid, a cardiologist at Massachusetts general hospital in Boston, who led the study, said, “It shows that, for health benefits, it’s really the amount of physical activity rather than its frequency that matters. The key is, however you are going to get that amount, do it in the way that works for you.”
Khurshid also mentioned the need for more research to explore whether the “weekend warrior” workout pattern could help people reach their activity goals more easily. “It might be more convenient for some people and help them follow public health advice better,” he said.
28. What does the underlined word “cram” in paragraph 1 probably mean?
A. Pack. B. Break. C. Divide. D. Turn.
29. How did the researchers test the health benefits in the three groups?
A. By checking their physical health. B. By comparing their health records.
C By reviewing their exercise records. D. By examining their workout patterns.
30. According to Dr. Khurshid, what is more important for health benefits?
A. How often you exercise each week. B. How long you exercise each time.
C. How much exercise you do each week D. How much effort you put into exercise.
31. What can we infer about the “weekend warrior” workout pattern?
A. It follows public health advice.
B. It might suit people with busy schedules.
C. It could help people reach their workout goals.
D. It will soon be promoted as the best exercise plan.
D
The rapid spread of artificial intelligence has people wondering: who’s most likely to use AI in their daily lives? Many think it’s the tech-savvy – those who understand how AI works — who are most eager to adopt it.
Surprisingly, a new research, published in the Journal of Marketing, finds the opposite. People with less knowledge about AI are actually more open to using the technology. We call this difference in adoption the “lower literacy-higher receptivity” link This link exists across different groups, backgrounds and even countries. For instance, our analysis of data from market research company Ipsos across 27 countries shows that people in nations with lower average AI literacy are more receptive towards AI adoption than those in nations with higher literacy.
The reason behind this link lies in how AI now performs tasks we once thought only humans could do. When AI creates a piece of art, writes a heartfelt response or plays a musical instrument, it can feel almost amazing — like it’s crossing into human land. Of course, AI doesn’t actually have human qualities. A chatbot might create an empathetic (共情的) response, but it doesn’t feel empathy (共鸣). People with more technical knowledge about AI understand this, making the technology less mysterious. On the other hand, those with less understanding may see AI as magical. We suggest this sense of magic makes them more open to using AI tools.
The lower literacy-higher receptivity link is strongest for using AI tools in areas where people are more likely to ask for emotional support or consulting. When it comes to tasks that don’t need human-like qualities, such as analysing test results, the pattern changes. To make the most of AI, businesses, educators and policymakers need to make this balance. And ideally, this will happen with respect that inspires many people to use this new technology.
32. Who are more likely to use AI in daily lives?
A. People who are tech-savvy. B. People in developed countries.
C. People with higher average AI literacy. D. People with less knowledge about AI.
33. How does the author prove the “lower literacy-higher receptivity” link?
A. By giving examples of AI applications.
B. By doing experiments on the use of AI.
C. By analyzing data from a market research company.
D. By interviewing people with different AI knowledge levels.
34. Why might people with low literacy about AI find it “magical”?
A. They believe AI has human emotions.
B. They do not understand how AI works.
C. They have seen AI perform tasks better than humans.
D. They are more likely to use AI for emotional support.
35. Which of the following can be a suitable title for the text?
A. AI in Life: Who Uses It? B. AI Use: The Hidden Magic
C. AI Tools: Tech-savvy’s Choice D. AI’s Future: A Threat or An Opportunity?

How to express hurt feelings
Expressing hurt feelings can be challenging especially for teenagers. ____36____ Luckily, there are some simple techniques on how to effectively express your hurt feelings.
____37____ Before you approach someone to tell them that they’ve hurt your feelings, identify exactly why you feel hurt. It’s important to give a specific reason for your hurt feelings so that you can express this to the person who hurt you. If you’re unsure about why you feel hurt, review what happened in your mind or write about it.
Take a few deep breaths and try to relax. If you’re feeling overwhelmed by your emotions, take a few deep breaths in and out before speaking with the persons. ____38____ You may also find it hard to communicate what you’re feeling if you are overcome with emotions. If taking deep breaths doesn’t seem to help, try taking a brisk walk or doing push-ups. This will help to release endorphins (内啡肽) and clear your head.
Use “I” statements to communicate what you’re feeling. ____39____ Instead, express your feelings by using “I” rather than “you”. Explain the issue in an objective way. This will be less likely to put the person on the defensive. For example, you might say, “I felt hurt that I didn’t get a call to tell me you couldn’t make it yesterday.”
Listen carefully to the other person’s response. After you’ve expressed your hurt feelings, give the other person a chance to respond. Listen to what they have to say with your full attention. They might not have realized they hurt you, or they may have a different view on the situation. ____40____
A. Be specific in your description.
B. Think about what you’re feeling and why.
C. Avoid blaming the person for how you feel
D. You can express your feelings in a more reasonable way.
E. Having an open dialogue can lead to a better understanding and resolution
F. However, it’s important to communicate to maintain your emotional well-being.
G. Talking to them when you’re feeling angry, stressed, or tearful can make matters worse.

It was our first winter in Chicago. Just as the animals were hibernating (冬眠), it seemed that so were our new neighbors. As newcomers, we felt alone.
Then something happened. It all began with a simple request from our eight-year-old daughter. “Mommy, let's put up a Christmas tree at home. ”
At first, we didn't pay too much attention to this request, for we had never put up a Christmas tree. But my daughter's repeated request made us go ahead with this first step: loaded with layers of clothing to fight the unfamiliar cold, we tasked ourselves with finding a tree for our daughter.
When we finally selected our tree, we realized we didn't have a car big enough to get it home. Of course, we had not considered that. It was our first time. We had no choice but to carry it home. We had walked only a few steps when a gentleman in our neighborhood stopped his truck and offered us a ride home. Our first friend.
The Christmas tree was propped up (支起) in our living area but it was too dark. We needed Christmas lights! So, the next evening, we went to a store and asked for lights. The storekeeper, who, after getting over the surprise of our seemingly silly questions, explained to us that we needed multi-colored lights. Thanking the kind soul, we left with our lights and his warmth. Our second friend.
That night, we carefully wound the lights around the tree and excitedly held our breaths for the beauty of the first glow. Still, it looked like something was missing: small ornaments (装 饰) . Where would we get them? One lady across the street had a breathtaking tree carefully placed in a window for all to see. Every night, I stood behind the curtain, spending unnatural amounts of time studying the bells and whistles in her tree.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为80左右;

C. By reviewing their exercise records. D. By examining their workout patterns.
30. According to Dr. Khurshid, what is more important for health benefits?
A. How often you exercise each week. B. How long you exercise each time.
C. How much exercise you do each week D. How much effort you put into exercise.
31 What can we infer about the “weekend warrior” workout pattern?
A. It follows public health advice.
B. It might suit people with busy schedules.
C. It could help people reach their workout goals.
D. It will soon be promoted as the best exercise plan.
A 29. B 30. C 31. B

D 33. C 34. B 35. A

根据文章第一段“Many think it’s the tech-savvy – those who understand how AI works — who are most eager to adopt it.(人工智能的迅速普及让人们不禁思考:谁最有可能在日常生活中使用AI?许多人认为,最热衷于采用AI 的会是那些精通技术、了解 AI 工作原理的人。)”和第二段“Surprisingly, a new research, published in the Journal of Marketing, finds the opposite. People with less knowledge about AI are actually more open to using the technology.(然而,发表在《营销杂志》上的一项新研究却得出了相反的结论。事实上,对AI知识了解较少的人反而更愿意使用这项技术。)”可知,传统观点认为精通技术的人更可能使用 AI,但研究表明实际情况相反——对 AI 知识了解较少的人更愿意使用。故选D。
【33题详解】
推理判断题。根据文章第二段“This link exists across different groups, backgrounds and even countries. For instance, our analysis of data from market research company Ipsos across 27 countries shows that people in nations with lower average AI literacy are more receptive towards AI adoption than those in nations with higher literacy.(这种关联存在于不同群体、背景甚至不同国家之中。例如,我们对市场研究公司Ipsos在27个国家的数据进行分析后发现,平均AI知识水平较低的国家的民众,比AI知识水平较高的国家的民众更愿意接受AI的应用。)”可知,作者通过分析市场研究公司Ipsos在27个国家的数据,证明了“低知识水平—高接受度”的关联。故选C。
【34题详解】
细节理解题。根据文章第三段“On the other hand, those with less understanding may see AI as magical. We suggest this sense of magic makes them more open to using AI tools.(另一方面,理解较少的人可能将AI视为神奇的存在。我们认为,这种“神奇感”使他们更愿意使用 AI 工具。)”可知,对AI技术知识了解较少的人因不了解其工作原理,会将AI完成类人任务的能力视为神奇的。故选B。
【35题详解】
主旨大意题。根据文章内容可知,全文围绕“谁更可能在日常生活中使用 AI”这一问题展开,通过研究揭示“低知识水平者反而更接受 AI”的现象,并分析其原因。选项A“AI in Life: Who Uses It?(谁在使用AI?)” 故选A。

Dear fellow students,
In light of a recent survey that highlights the increasing dependence on social media among us, I am calling on/appealing to everyone to take immediate action to resist this addiction.
While social media is an excellent tool for staying connected and well-informed, excessive use can lead to significant distractions from our studies and foster a sense of isolation. To address this issue, we should set boundaries for our daily screen time, redirecting our focus from social media to more enriching real-life hobbies and activities. Moreover, the Student Union will launch initiatives that emphasize in-person interactions, such as book clubs, English corners, and outdoor sports events.
Don’t hesitate to join us in embracing a balanced digital life. With joint and constant efforts, we are bound to regain our focus, deepen our connections, and thrive beyond screens!

So the next evening, we went to a store and asked for lights.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为80左右;
One evening, seeing the lady clearing snow off her sidewalk, I made a decision.

I walked over and offered to help. As we worked, I mentioned our Christmas tree and how much I admired her ornaments. She smiled warmly and invited me into her home. To my surprise, she had a box filled with extra ornaments that she no longer used. She handed it to me with a kind smile, saying, "Here, take these. I hope they'll make your tree just as beautiful as mine." With tears in my eyes, I thanked her profusely. That evening, our tree was finally complete, and it was truly a sight to behold. Our third friend had helped us create a Christmas we would never forget.
