We were in a rich neighborhood—I knew that. We lived in a small but expensive apartment building near the centre of our city. Mum chose to move there because she knew the schools were good. American families usually try to encourage independence, especially the independence of children. Unlike the Chinese, old Americans don’t like to live with their children. Friends—Chinese people and Americans have different opinions about friends. For the Chinese, just hanging out together from time to time is not friendship. Friendship means lifelong friends. They feel deeply honest to give each other whatever help might seem required. Americans always call all the people they meet “friends”, so the meaning of friends is general and different. There are work friends, playing friends, school friends and drinking friends. Money—As is well known, the Chinese like to save. They are always clever to spend little when they are planning to spend money. It is different in the USA, where far fewer families are saving money for future use or education. Education—Chinese people usually think education is very important in life. Well, Americans pay more attention to good character and faith (信仰). Old Americans prefer to live with their children. C. Americans pay attention to individual abilities. D New technology brings traditional culture back to life. Li Bai holds a wine cup in his hand, while Du Fu sits in front of a desk, writing poems on the paper in front of him. It’s not that we have travelled to China. Modern technology has brought them “back to life”. The two great poets along with other human-like robots, were shown at the World Robot Conference 2023 in late August in Beijing. They looked similar to real human beings. A special performance called YangBOT amazed audiences at Spring Festival Gala of the Year of the Snake in 2025. The Yangge folk dance mixed traditional culture with modern technology developed a Chinese culture with modern technology. They were dressed in north-eastern Chinese style jackets and performed with dancers from an art college. The robots learned dance moves through AI and used laser navigation (激光导航) to move safely on the stage. Zhang Yimou, the director of this wonderful dance performance said,“This dance isn’t just fun-it shows how technology can bring new life to tradition.” The robots won the hearts of millions. As one fan said, “It’s like watching the future and past dance together.” The 16 robots were produced by a Chinese robotics company Unitree. Unitree said they named these robots “Fuxi”. Because it sounds like a Chinese character in ancient Chinese tales, standing for the company’s hope that the robots will bring active changes in life. Nowadays, human-like robots mostly work with humans, as tour guides or by helping visitors at the front desk. There are also robots that share the work of nurses, such as handing out medicine. However, robots aren’t there to take jobs away—they are designed to help humans. As more human-like robots come out, safety should be the key, according to the Robot Report website. When a 70-kilogram robot breaks down and falls, humans nearby may be hurt. 12. Where were the human-like robots of Li Bai and Du Fu shown? A. At the Spring Festival Gala in 2025. B. At the World Robot Conference 2023. C On some hot overseas social media. 13. Why did Unitree name their robots “Fuxi”? A Because Fuxi means “robot” in Chinese. B. Their special ability to write poems like Li Bai. B. Their lightweight design and fast movements. C. Their dance mixed tradition and technology. 15. According to the Robot Report website, what should be paid attention to when more human-like robots come out? A. They might cost too much money. B. A heavy robot could fall and hurt people. 【1题详解】 文章CAVE PAINTINGS部分原句“Many of these paintings show people hunting animals”直接说明西班牙北部洞穴壁画展示内容是捕猎动物。 【2题详解】 文章STONES AND PAPYRUS部分原句“But it was impossible to carry the stones from place to place. The invention of papyrus made it”,指出纸莎草对比早期刻字的石头,核心优势是更便于携带。 【3题详解】 文章PAPER AND PRINTING部分原句“Paper was invented in China in 105 CE (公元年). The world’s oldest known printed book is from China...” B I was with my mum one day as we took a walk while window shopping. We both knew we wouldn’t be buying much. The Most Beautiful Sweater B. Love Is Giving and Understanding C. Have a Good Time With Mum 【答案】4. C 5. B 6. C 7. 【4题详解】 原文中第一段:“We both knew we wouldn’t be buying much”以及第四段“She wore cheaper clothes and older shoes than me.” 【5题详解】 原文中第五段:“My words died in my mouth. I realized that her clothes were old because...”以及“She looked tired because she was busy working to provide for me.” 【6题详解】 原文中第五段:“I realized that her clothes were old because… She looked tired because she was busy working to provide for me.” C Living in a culture that is different from your own can be both exciting and challenging.
