M: Why? You always do well in biology.
W: The test is not too hard, but I have so much information to remember. Here are my notes from today.
M: These aren’t notes! This is an entire essay! No need to copy everything! Look at this sentence by you: Plants use sunlight to make food.
W: That’s essential information.
M: But you don’t need to write it all out like that. Look at what I write.
W: Oh, that’s great, Max! The S stands for “sunlight”, and the F for “food”. Very clever. And the leaf symbolizes “plants”; the arrow means “make”.
M: Exactly. Notes should have just a few key words. Skip the rest. Try using simple drawings. Visuals can help you remember, so you write less. If you take notes like this, Tara, you’ll reduce your pages from five to just one or two!

W: He’s going as fast as he can.
M: What should I do if you can’t get here on time?
W: Then you can go first.
M: But we’re going to visit your parents. Won’t they feel strange if I turn up alone?
W: No, they’ll probably laugh. They always say I need to improve my time arrangement skill. When I was a kid, I was always late for the school bus.
M: Are you sure?
W: Yes, otherwise we’ll have to pay for two new tickets instead of one.
M: That makes sense. Well, I’ll wait for another 15 minutes, then I’ll need to board.

18. Which crop is grown the most?
A. Tea. B. Rice. C. Corn.
19. Why are young people moving away from the rural areas?
A. The soil is not good for growing crops.
B. They don’t enjoy village life.
C. It’s not easy to find jobs there.
20. When will the festival be held again?
A. In 2028. B. In 2027. C. In 2026.
【答案】18. A 19. C 20. B
【解析】
【原文】W: The city of Gilan is not far from the capital of the country. Most of the people here are farmers, and their only source of earning money is selling what they grow to markets. The markets want to make a profit when the farmers sell, so the people of the city do not get very good deals. The main crop they sell is tea, although some rice and corn are grown here too.
Nowadays, the young generation living in the rural parts of the city is moving to bigger cities. Their parents and grandparents think this is because the kids don’t like village life. However, the fact is that there are not many jobs here.
Although the soil is good to grow what they need, young people don’t want to be farmers like previous generations. Older people here entertain themselves with watching their favorite sport, or meeting in small markets. A festival is held here every 10 years, and is attended by thousands of people. The last time it was held was in 2017, and the locals say everyone is looking forward to the next one. Some even say it should be held every 5 years, instead of 10.

Elara Voss is a nurse in a coastal town in Australia.
She’d barely thought about birdwatching before — just occasional sightings of seagulls by the beach during her morning walks. It wasn’t until her 10-year-old nephew, Leo, kept asking to “find cool birds” that she started exploring the idea. Leo soon developed a passion for spotting different species, and now leads a small group of kids on weekend bird tours in the local park. Both first got into the hobby through the Bayview Birdwatchers’ Club, a community group set up in 2010. When fewer families joined their monthly events in 2020, Elara, who also runs a weekend craft (手工艺) class for kids, decided to help.
She started the “Junior Ornitho” program, teaching 8-to 12-year-olds how to identify birds. They have to keep careful notes each time. With her support, over 60 kids join for free every autumn for two months. They meet every Saturday morning for two hours, learning to use binoculars (双筒望远镜), recognize bird calls, and draw what they see. Each child gets a small notebook, a pencil, and a waterproof bag. “We focused on common birds first-sparrows, magpies,” Elara said. “They started noticing details, like how a bird’s beak (鸟喙) shape matches what it eats. Before long, their parents started joining too.”
Elara teaches the kids to make bird-shaped keychains, painted stones, and hand-drawn bird cards during craft sessions. Then, she set up “Bird Art Bazaar” at the town’s weekly farmers’ market, where visitors buy these creations. The Bazaar brings in about $180 each week, enough to buy binoculars, print bird guides, and give out nature-themed books as prizes for the best observation notes.
Elara says the best part is seeing kids rush to show her their creations. “Not only are they spending less time indoors, but they’re also learning to care for nature,” she said. “Last week, a group even helped clean up the park to make it better for the birds. That’s more than I could have hoped for.”
24. What made Elara initially get to know birdwatching?
A. Children’s weekend tours. B. Her young nephew’s requests.
C. Occasional beach sightings. D. Community club activities.
25 What are the program’s participants required to do?
A. Attend weekly craft sessions. B. Get their parents’ permission.
C. Bring their own equipment. D. Document their observations.
26 Why did Elara set up Bird Art Bazaar?
A. To promote kids’ artworks. B. To teach bird crafting skills.
C. To develop children’s creativity. D. To keep her program running.
27. According to Elara, which word best describes her program?
A. Rewarding. B. Eventful. C. Challenging. D. Innovative.
【答案】24. B 25. D 26. D 27. A
根据第二段中“It wasn’t until her 10-year-old nephew, Leo, kept asking to “find cool birds” that she started exploring the idea.(直到她10岁的侄子Leo一直要求“寻找酷鸟”,她才开始探索这个想法。)”可知,Elara最初是因为她的小侄子Leo不断请求“寻找酷鸟”才开始了解观鸟的。故选B项。
【25题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段中“They have to keep careful notes each time.(他们每次都要认真做记录。)”可知,该项目的参与者被要求每次都要仔细记录他们的观察结果。故选D项。
【26题详解】
推理判断题。根据第四段中“The Bazaar brings in about $180 each week, enough to buy binoculars, print bird guides, and give out nature-themed books as prizes for the best observation notes.(这个集市每周能带来约180美元的收入,足以购买望远镜、印刷鸟类指南,并将与自然相关的书籍作为最佳观察笔记的奖品发放出去。)”可推知,Elara设立“Bird Art Bazaar”是为了维持她的项目运行,通过销售孩子们的作品来筹集资金购买设备和奖品。故选D项。
【27题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段中“Elara says the best part is seeing kids rush to show her their creations “Not only are they spending less time indoors, but they’re also learning to care for nature,” she said.(Elara说,最令人开心的是看到孩子们急切地向她展示他们的作品。“他们不仅减少了在室内的时间,而且还在学习关爱大自然。”)”可推知,看到孩子们的成长和对自然的关爱,Elara会感到自己的项目是值得做的。故选A项。
C
Dark matter and dark energy are unknown substances that affect and shape the universe, and scientists are still trying to figure them out.
Normal matter makes up everything we can directly observe. We can view it in visible light with our own eyes or through a telescope that can detect light we can’t see, like ultraviolet (紫外线的) or infrared light. Most normal matter is made up of atomic particles (粒子): protons, neutrons, and electrons. It can exist as a gas, solid, liquid, or plasma of charged particles. While normal matter is everywhere in our daily lives, it composes less than 5% of the total universe.
Like ordinary matter, dark matter takes up space and holds mass. But it doesn’t reflect, absorb, or radiate light — at least not enough for us to detect yet.
While scientists have measured that dark matter makes up about 27% of the universe, they’re not sure what it is. Theories include several kinds of as-yet unidentified types of particles that rarely interact with normal matter.
Astronomers didn’t even know dark matter existed until the 20th century. In the 1930s, Swiss astronomer Fritz Zwicky coined the term while studying the Coma galaxy cluster (星系团), which contains more than 1,000 galaxies. The speed at which galaxies within a galaxy cluster move depends on the cluster’s total mass and size. Zwicky noticed that galaxies in the Coma cluster were moving faster than could be explained by the amount of matter astronomers could see there.
It wasn’t until the 1970s that U. S. astronomer Vera Rubin confirmed the existence of dark matter by studying how individual galaxies moved. She and her colleagues found that individual galaxies may contain invisible mass made of dark matter.
Scientists today think dark matter exists in a vast, web-like structure that winds through the whole universe — a gravitational net that attracts most of the universe’s normal matter. They’ve determined that dark matter isn’t composed of known particles of matter because the universe would look very different if it were. The search for what makes up dark matter continues.
28. What can be inferred about normal matter’s observability?
A. It requires indirect detection tools.
B. It is fundamentally invisible to humans.
C. Its observation partly relies on enhancing natural vision.
D. Its full range can only be perceived by specialized scientists.
29. What characteristic do normal and dark matter share?
A. Both interact strongly with light. B. Both are made of atomic particles.
C. Both occupy room and have weight. D. Both can be seen by special telescopes.
30. How did scientists find the existence of dark matter?
A. With biological sensing. B. With particle telescopes.
C. By analyzing its light emissions. D. By observing gravitational effects.
31. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Normal Matter: Everything We Can Observe
B. Dark Energy: The Most Unknown Substance
C. Dark Matter: One of the Universe’s Building Blocks
D. Gravitational Net: The Core Structure of the Universe
【答案】28. C 29. C 30. D 31. C
【解析】

(兹威基注意到,康马星系团内的星系移动速度超出了天文学家所能观测到的物质量所能解释的范围。)”及最后一段“Scientists today think dark matter exists in a vast, web-like structure that winds through the whole universe — a gravitational net that attracts most of the universe’s normal matter.
根据最后一段“Scientists today think dark matter exists in a vast, web-like structure that winds through the whole universe — a gravitational net that attracts most of the universe’s normal matter. In today’s digital era, the traditional work mode is shifting rapidly. From the changing definition of full-time job to the rise of hybrid (混合) jobs and the importance of flexibility, the employment landscape is transforming.
A full-time job typically means that an employee works the majority of full-time hours per week. In the UK, for instance, full-time hours generally range from 35 to 40 hours a week. In our days, the once-clear distinction between “office jobs” and “work from home jobs” has been eclipsed by the rise of hybrid jobs, which smoothly combine in-person office hours with remote working. The concept of full-time work from home roles has become a significant branch of contemporary employment. The contemporary work environment now understands an office as any place with a reliable Wi-Fi connection, underscoring the importance of digital age networking.
In a society with busy lifestyle, flexible working hours stand out as a significant bonus, offering improved mental health, heightened productivity, a better work-life balance, and so on. This flexibility allows employees to find a pattern that matches both their personal and professional lives. Meanwhile, the ongoing debate between full-time and part-time roles remains. While full-time jobs provide stability and numerous benefits, part-time roles can offer even more flexibility.
The purposes of jobs have changed in the modern work style. Beyond financial reasons, people seek jobs for personal growth, societal contributions, networking, skill development, and a sense of purpose. In the digital age, handling challenges in the modern work field, especially with full-time roles, can sometimes lead to job burnout, making it vital to manage one’s mental well-being. Companies are also adjusting their strategies to handle workplace conflicts. Key approaches to excel in modern roles include continuous learning, flexibility, and a sharp focus on striking a balance between career and personal life. While achieving a balance in today’s work environment can appear challenging, it becomes achievable with the right mindset.
32. What does the underlined word “eclipsed” in paragraph 2 mean?
A. Stressed. B. Hidden. C. Reserved. D. Discovered.
33. What does paragraph 3 mainly focus on?
A. Features of part-time roles. B. Advantages of full-time jobs.
C. Benefits of flexible working hours. D. Trends of remote work.
34. What does the author suggest doing to deal with the modern work’s challenge?
A. Protecting psychological health. B. Choosing part-time jobs.
C. Following company policies. D. Seeking higher salaries.
35. What will the author continue to discuss?
A. Expansions of hybrid employment. B. Advantages from flexible schedules.
C. Definitions of office spaces. D. Methods for work-life balance.
【答案】32. B 33. C 34. A 35. D
【解析】
【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要讲述了在当今数字时代,就业模式正迅速转变及应对现代工作挑战的方法。
【32题详解】
词句猜测题。根据第二段中“In our days, the once-clear distinction between “office jobs” and “work from home jobs” has been eclipsed by the rise of hybrid jobs, which smoothly combine in-person office hours with remote working.(如今,“办公室工作”和“在家工作”之间曾经清晰的界限已经被混合工作的兴起eclipsed,混合工作将在办公室的面对面工作时间与远程工作顺利结合)”可知,如今,“办公室工作”和“在家工作”之间曾经清晰的界限已经被混合工作的兴起掩盖,eclipsed意思是“掩盖,隐藏”,与Hidden意思相符。故选B。
【33题详解】
主旨大意题。根据第三段中“In a society with busy lifestyle, flexible working hours stand out as a significant bonus, offering improved mental health, heightened productivity, a better work-life balance, and so on.(在一个生活方式繁忙的社会中,灵活的工作时间是一个显著的优势,它提供了改善的心理健康、提高的生产力、更好的工作与生活平衡等等)”可知,第三段主要关注灵活工作时间的益处。故选C。
【34题详解】
细节理解题。根据最后一段中“In the digital age, handling challenges in the modern work field, especially with full-time roles, can sometimes lead to job burnout, making it vital to manage one’s mental well-being.(在数字时代,处理现代工作领域的挑战,特别是全职工作,有时会导致职业倦怠,因此管理好自己的心理健康至关重要)”可知,作者建议应对现代工作挑战要保护心理健康。故选A。
【35题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段中“Key approaches to excel in modern roles include continuous learning, flexibility, and a sharp focus on striking a balance between career and personal life. While achieving a balance in today’s work environment can appear challenging, it becomes achievable with the right mindset.(在现代角色中脱颖而出的关键方法包括持续学习、灵活性和高度关注职业与个人生活之间的平衡。虽然在当今的工作环境中实现平衡可能看起来具有挑战性,但只要心态正确,就可以实现)”可推断,作者接下来将继续讨论实现工作与生活平衡的方法。故选D。

Are You an Underthinker?
We’ve all had those moments when we do things just on impulse (冲动). In my early 20s, I was desperate to move into my own place. When I found a flat that seemed perfect, I took it, without considering whether the rent and bills were actually affordable in the long term. ____36____ I had to move in with my family, and felt embarrassed, ashamed. What if I had given the situation more thought before taking action? What if I’d done things differently? Such self-doubt and criticism are what underthinkers tend to experience.
Still, underthinking isn’t always a bad tool to have in your back pocket. ____37____ Try the following easy steps.

第二节(满分25分)
67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Summer came along, and my friend Neil suggested we ride our bicycles eighty miles from Saskatoon to Lake Diefenbaker for the official opening of the Gardiner Dam. He called this adventure a “Centennial Project”, thus turning an irresponsible joke into a noble pursuit. It took a bit of convincing to get parental permission but, after promising to be careful and make a collect call home from every town we went through, the answer was “yes”.
Neil was thirteen and I was twelve. We set off for our big adventure. I had a borrowed three-speed bicycle, five dollars in my pocket, and a cotton sleeping bag. A few hours into our trip, our joy kicked in as our bikes sped down the mile-long hill at the end of newly constructed, man-made Blackstrap Lake. We held on for dear life as we rushed faster on two wheels than we ever thought possible. It was a lot less fun when we had to climb up the other side of the valley.
Hours later we were in the middle of nowhere. Our water was gone, I had a flat front tire, and we were walking unsteadily under the sky. The highway extended on forever in front of us. We had been walking for what seemed like a century when a huge yellow Department of Highways truck pulled up.
“You boys need a ride?” “Yes, we do.” we replied, and seconds later two big workers threw our bikes up into the dump box and we were off. We told the men our story and they thought it quite amusing. Ten minutes later we were off-loaded at the Kenaston Garage, where I was able to get my tire fixed for fifty cents.
Just that quickly we were back on the road! The sun filled the western sky as we approached the little community of Hawarden. Night was coming and we cycled around the town looking for a place to sleep under the stars. What a great adventure! The schoolyard looked promising as it offered a shelter. Hopefully the night would be clear, as we had no umbrella.

【答案】范文
Hungry, we entered a restaurant. When we talked about our story, the boss’s eyes lit up with warmth as she listened. Knowing we were two ill-prepared, underequipped and inexperienced kids, she didn’t laugh at us but seemed quite taken with us. Then she asked, “Where are you boys planning on sleeping tonight?” “We aren’t sure,” we replied. “Maybe the school playground?” She responded immediately, “Oh no, you won’t. You boys are coming home with me and staying at my house!”
Appreciating her offer, we followed her into a clean room. That night we found ourselves sweating in the heat of her three-story home. In the morning she fed us eggs and sent us on our way with best wishes for the successful completion of our project, pressing a couple of apples into our hands for the road. Without her, we might have slept on the school playground. Even today I still owed the successful adventure to the kindness, care and generosity of strangers.

25. What are the program’s participants required to do?
A. Attend weekly craft sessions. B. Get their parents’ permission.
C. Bring their own equipment. D. Document their observations.
26. Why did Elara set up Bird Art Bazaar?
A. To promote kids’ artworks. B. To teach bird crafting skills.
C. To develop children’s creativity. D. To keep her program running.
27. According to Elara, which word best describes her program?
A. Rewarding. B. Eventful. C. Challenging. D. Innovative.

A It requires indirect detection tools.

A Features of part-time roles. B. Advantages of full-time jobs.
C. Benefits of flexible working hours. D. Trends of remote work.
34. What does the author suggest doing to deal with the modern work’s challenge?
A. Protecting psychological health. B. Choosing part-time jobs.
C. Following company policies. D. Seeking higher salaries.
35. What will the author continue to discuss?
A. Expansions of hybrid employment. B. Advantages from flexible schedules.
C. Definitions of office spaces. D. Methods for work-life balance.

We’ve all had those moments when we do things just on impulse (冲动). In my early 20s, I was desperate to move into my own place. What if I had given the situation more thought before taking action? What if I’d done things differently? Such self-doubt and criticism are what underthinkers tend to experience.
Still, underthinking isn’t always a bad tool to have in your back pocket. ____37____ Try the following easy steps.
Create clear goals and priorities. Who and what are important to you, and why? Think about what you really want before acting, and ask yourself questions like: ____38____
Give yourself a time frame to make decisions. It could be 24 hours, or even a week for big, life-changing ones. But even for smaller things, counting to 10 before responding gives us time to process information first.
____39____ Or, you might want to write a pros and cons list to help make sense of your choices, and analyse the consequences before committing to a course of action. Explore mindfulness and grounding techniques. These help you reconnect with your conscious thoughts.
____40____ How do we manage underthinking and make it work for us? The most important thing is to recognise moments when we need to be reflective and consider our options, and when a gut reaction (本能反应) is safe to act on.
A. Journal your initial thoughts.
B. What are the costs of underthinking?
C. A year later, I was in financial trouble.
D. What will happen if I don’t act right now?
