You might have noticed many people choosing style over comfort and some even go to extremes(极端)to follow fashion. But we should remember: being fashionable isn’t everything. It’s more important to be healthy. ②Some people believe that they need to be a certain size to look good. So, they start extreme diets(日常饮食)that are not good for their health. They might not eat meals or eat too little, which can make them feel sick. Is it a healthy way to live? ......... 1.Why do some people go on extreme diets according to the passage? A.Because the diets are healthy. B.Because they just want to look good. C.Because they want to save time. D.Because they want to save money. 根据“Some people believe that they need to be a certain size to look good. So, they start extreme diets(日常饮食)that are not good for their health.” The sweaters didn’t use any chemical materials, not even glue. After the show, students will recycle the wool (羊毛). They can do more things with it. “The art is environmentally friendly, and it makes our city lives warmer and more colorful,” said Xia Xin, one of the knitting artists. 34.Why is the art environmentally friendly? A.Because the plane trees were beautifully dressed. B.Because the art made the city lives more colorful. C.Because the art made people feel the coming of spring. D.Because the sweaters didn’t use any chemical materials and will be recycled. 根据“The sweaters didn’t use any chemical materials, not even glue. After the show, students will recycle the wool (羊毛). They can do more things with it.” Small as the dictionary is, it means a lot to China. The dictionary was given the name Xinhua by the chief editor Wei Jiangong, and it carried the hope of a country reborn. In 1949, around 80% of China’s population wasn’t able to get education. It was Xinhua Dictionary that had reduced the number to 52% by 1964. To make it easier for illiterate people to understand, the earliest copies had many pictures. Thanks to Xinhua Dictionary, many Chinese got new chances in their life. Mo Yan, the 69-year-old Nobel Laureate, once mentioned the dictionary in his speech. He said that he was lucky to have a copy of the dictionary after dropping out from school. He learned most of Chinese characters from it, and that helped him write novels and enter a college later. 2.What does the underlined phrase “illiterate people” in Paragraph 3 mean? A.People who are bad at maths. B.People who can’t draw or sing. C.People who are too old to see. D.People who can’t read or write. 根据“In 1949, around 80% of China’s population wasn’t able to get education (教育). It was Xinhua Dictionary that had reduced the number to 52% by 1964.” 52%。“To make it easier for illiterate people to understand, the earliest copies had many pictures.” Rabbits can have a lot of babies in a short time. In this way, people in the past also saw the rabbit as a good sign. They believed having more children could bring them luck and happiness. So the Year of the Rabbit may bring you some good luck, too. 37.What does the underlined word “They” in Paragraph 3 refer to? A.Rabbits. B.Children. C.Western people. D.People in the past. 根据“In this way, people in the past also saw the rabbit as a good sign. They believed having more children could bring them luck and happiness.” 1. What was the author’s attitude towards ...?  2. The passage is intended to ... 3. The author suggests that ... 4. The story implies that… 5. Which point of view may the author agree to? 6. From the passage we can conclude that... 7. The purpose of the passage is to...。 Comfort Zone is a state of mind where there is the least stress. However, stepping into the learning zone can help to bring out the best in us. Here are the reasons. ▲ Challenging yourself can help you do at your best. Stepping out of one’s comfort zone is important to personal development. How can we expect to make ourselves better if we only stick to habit and routine (日常)? We should try something we might not succeed at. ▲ Taking risks is what helps us grow. As children, we were natural risk-takers. But as we get older and learn to fear failure (失败), we start trying fewer new things. We pay a heavy price for our fear of failure. There is no learning without some difficulty. ▲ Facing new challenges can help us grow better. Our comfort zones seem to become smaller as we get older, but if we can keep expanding (扩展) them, we’ll open ourselves up to a greater world as we grow. As we step into the learning zone, we will get more comfortable with the skills gradually and we’ll start to move into the comfort zone. A study found that learning new life skills can help our brain stay sharp (敏锐的) as we get older. However, don’t push yourself too far. Have you heard of “Yerkes-Dodson Law”? It means performance increases as stress grows, but only up to a point. If the level of stress becomes too high, performance will go down. When stress becomes too great for us to deal with, we step into the dangerous zone. 15.“Yerkes-Dodson Law” can be described by Graph (曲线图) ________. 根据最后一段中“It means performance increases as stress grows, but only up to a point. If the level of stress becomes too high, performance will go down.” 故选A。 The sweaters didn’t use any chemical materials, not even glue. They can do more things with it.” This passage mainly talks about ____. What is the main idea of the passage? This passage mainly talks about … Do you ever wonder why you can go over a book again and again and still be lost when tested on what you read? It may be because you haven’t practiced remembering. Remembering is a useful way to help us learn. Some of us remember best by listening; some by re-reading; and others by using pictures and diagrams (图表). Schools try many of these different ways to help students “download” new information. ................................................... Our mind, just like our body, has to practice activities to become good at them. 53.What’s the text mainly about? A.What is a good way to test? B.What is a good way to practice? C.What is a good way to score well? D.What is a good way to remember things? 通读全文,尤其根据第一段“Do you ever wonder why you can go over a book again and again and still be lost when tested on what you read? It may be because you haven’t practiced remembering.”以及“Our mind, just like our body, has to practice activities to become good at them.” Remember the delicious pizza that you created? How is the passage organized? Which of the following best shows the structure of the passage? The passage is mainly developed by_______. What is the right order of the steps in doing...? The second paragraph is developed by ... The author develops the passage mainly by…. How does the writer support the underlined statement in Paragraph2? Have you ever been to the Dead Sea, one of the most famous natural wonders in the world? Have you ever considered why it is called Dead Sea? Does it hold life? Can people swim there? With all these questions in your mind, let’s know something about it! The Dead Sea is actually a lake in the Middle East. At four hundred meters below sea level, it’s the lowest point on Earth. It lies between the borders of Jordan, Israel, and the West Bank. It’s about 80 kilometers long, 11 kilometers wide at its widest point, and 377 meters deep at its deepest. The lake is surrounded by hot, dry desert on all sides. Since it’s in a hot desert, water evaporates (蒸发) faster than the lake is refilled. And the area is lower than all the land around, the water can never flow back out, it can only evaporate. And that’s what happens-water continually evaporates. In fact, so much water is evaporating from the Dead Sea, it often looks like there’s a cloud of fog hanging over the lake. Anyway, as the water evaporates, it leaves behind the salt and minerals (矿物质). The water in the Dead Sea is almost six times saltier than ocean water! Because the Dead Sea is so salty, almost nothing can live there, except for bacteria and one type of algae. Any fish or freshwater animal that gets washed into the lake dies almost immediately. And the shores are covered in thick salt crystals (结晶), so animals can’t even live near the lake either. That’s why it’s called Dead Sea. Since it’s so salty, why do people go there to cover themselves from head to toe with its mud? Actually, those minerals are supposed to be really good for your skin. No wonder lots of spas and health resorts have been built in the area. Though the water in the Dead Sea is so salty, it is totally safe for people. You can even go swimming there if you want, although it’s pretty hard to swim because all that salt makes it much easier to float! It’s really unbelievable. Want to know more about it? Just explore it yourself! 9.Why does the writer use four questions in the beginning? A.To interest readers in natural wonders. B.To lead into the topic of the Dead Sea. C.To introduce the popularity of the Dead Sea. D.To express worries about freshwater animals. 10.What can you learn about the Dead Sea from the passage? A.It’s near the Middle East. B.It’s far from the desert. C.It’s 80 kilometers wide. D.It’s the lowest point on land. 11.What’s the main idea of Paragraph 3? A.How the Dead Sea is formed. B.How the Dead Sea gets so salty. C.Why fish can’t live in the Dead Sea. D.Why the Dead Sea is like a cloud of fog. 12.What’s the structure of the passage? Where is the world’s best high-speed rail system? In China! High-speed railway, which has developed quickly in recent years, has become a famous name card of China. In the past ten years, China’s high-speed rail network (高速铁路网) has grown from under 10, 000 kilometers to over 40, 000 kilometers, making it the world’s longest high-speed rail network, long enough to circle the entire equator (整个赤道). From the old-style green trains to the Fuxing high-speed trains, China’s high-speed railways have developed quickly and brought us closer to our hometown villages. In 2016, the Shanghai-Kunming High-speed Railway opened to traffic. The distances between nearly 340 traditional villages and high-speed railway stations have been reduced to less than one hour, while most of them were more than three hours away from the stations before the railway opened. With China’s high-speed trains becoming faster and faster, people can save more travel time. For example, you can leave from Beijing in the morning to take part in a meeting in Shanghai at noon. Then, you can arrive at Hangzhou in the afternoon, enjoying the beauty of the West Lake. In the evening, you can return to Beijing safely. China’s high-speed railway has already gone to the world. In 2014, An-Yi high-speed rail, the first high-speed railway built by Chinese companies overseas (在海外), was finished and opened to traffic. In 2023, the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway, jointly built by China and Indonesia, can cut travel time between the two cities from more than 3 hours to 40 minutes. China’s high-speed railways cross rivers and mountains, connect home and abroad, and see the changes over time. From nothing, we are a leader in this industry now. As a name card of China, China’s high-speed railway has amazed the world! 30.What is the best structure (结构) for the text? (一)、阅读理解记叙文 (2025·江苏镇江·中考真题) One day, my friend Mareya called. “Nora, I will travel to Hawaii. There will be beaches, sandcastles…” she said. Her words made me have a strange feeling. I was happy for her but envied her a little. “Oh, well,” I thought, “I will have a hiking trip with Olivia. That will also be very interesting.” Later that day, I learnt Olivia would visit her uncle’s new beach house. So we had to put off our hiking trip. “I’m really sorry. But you understand, right?” she said. “Oh, sure,” I said. I tried to push the corners of my mouth into a smile, but inside, my heart was sinking. At that time, I saw Mrs. Daisy in her garden. I offered to help her water the flowers in the hope of taking my mind off unpleasant feelings. Watering the flowers made me feel good but I still couldn’t stop wishing I could also be on holiday with my friends. “Be careful!” Mrs. Daisy said. “That is a harmful plant. I’ll get it out of here.” Suddenly, I realized what I was watering. Mrs. Daisy was aware of my bad mood, smiled at me and said, “Dear Nora, plants or feelings, we should watch what we’re watering, right? If we nourish the harmful plants or bad feelings, then that’s what we have. But if we try to nourish the beautiful flowers or good feelings, then that’s what we get.” “I guess that makes sense,” I said, “but I fail to tell my mind to stop being sad.” “Just let yourself feel all of your feelings,” she said, “but after a while, you can try feeding your mind with happier thoughts. Talk to a friend, go for a run or just enjoy the beauty of a flower.” I thought Mrs. Daisy’s advice was worth trying. So I called Olivia at once. After sharing my feelings with her, I cheered up again and moreover we both agreed to have our hiking trip after she came back. —Adapted from the story by Lissa Rovetch 1.How did Nora feel when she knew about two friends’ plans? A.She got excited. B.She became curious. C.She felt a little blue. D.She was very angry. 2.Why did Nora offer to help Mrs. Daisy water the flowers? A.Because Mrs. Daisy needed Nora’s help. B.Because Mrs. Daisy invited Nora to enjoy flowers. C.Because Nora hoped to ask Mrs. Daisy for advice. D.Because Nora wanted to forget unpleasant feelings. 3.What does the underlined word “nourish” probably mean in Paragraph 4? A.Put something away. B.Leave something alone. C.Help something grow. D.Make something disappear. 4.What does the writer really want to tell readers? A.Watering flowers to change moods. B.Helping old people to gain wisdom. C.Ways of getting along well with friends. D.Dealing with our feelings in a proper way. 根据“I tried to push the corners of my mouth into a smile, but inside, my heart was sinking.”以及“but I still couldn’t stop wishing I could also be on holiday with my friends.” 根据“I offered to help her water the flowers in the hope of taking my mind off unpleasant feelings.” 根据“If we nourish the harmful plants or bad feelings, then that’s what we have. But if we try to nourish the beautiful flowers or good feelings, then that’s what we get.” (二)、阅读理解应用文 (2025·江苏无锡·中考真题) Short texts can be seen everywhere. They are short but provide useful information. Read the short texts below and answer questions. 5.What does Jim want to do? A.To take Tom home for dinner. B.To practice volleyball with Tom. By providing a small electrical support at the right moment, they can keep a heart working properly. Their main problem is that they use batteries. Even the best of them will run out of energy, and changing the batteries requires operations. Since operations are usually best avoided, the search has been on for long-lasting batteries. Different choices have been explored for a long time. Today, pacemakers with lithium (锂) batteries last between 5 and 15 years. Zhang Hao, from Shanghai Second Military Medical University, and Yang Bin, from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, tried a way to refill a pacemaker’s battery with electricity (电) by getting energy from inside the body. They report in the magazine ACS Nano that they have also used the heart muscle (肌肉) itself to work. Earlier efforts by other scientists to use heart muscle power to run pacemakers depend on piezoelectric materials These materials can be connected to a beating heart and produce electricity when they are slightly deformed (弯曲). This has worked, but not well enough: the output has rarely been over 5 microwatts (微瓦), while most pacemakers require at least ten. Dr Zhang and Dr Yang believed that they could improve matters by making their piezoelectric materials more dramatically deformed, and then produce 15 microwatts, because the more deformed, the more electricity will be produced. They put their idea to the test in a 50kg pig. It made enough electricity for the pacemaker to work as expected. Whether such an idea will pass human tests remains to be seen. But if it does, the days of pacemakers that need battery changes through operations may not last long. 8.According to the first two paragraphs, what is a problem with pacemakers? A.They often go off beat. B.Their energy can be used up. C.Operations often influence them. D.They sometimes do harm to hearts. 9.From this passage, what do we know about piezoelectric materials? A.They can be used to produce electricity. B.They can deform the heart to make it beat faster. C.They were first used by Zhang Hao and Yang Bin. D.They were proved to produce 15 microwatts in human tests. 10.What does the word “dramatically” in the 4th paragraph most probably mean? A.Comfortably. B.Safely. C.Greatly. D.Rapidly. 11.What is the best title for this article? A.No Need to Use Pacemakers B.The Problem with Piezoelectric Materials C.The Contribution of Chinese Scientists to Heart Operations D.Chinese Scientists Found a New Way to Improve Pacemakers 【答案】8.B 9.A 10.C 11.D 【导语】本文主要介绍中国科学家发现了一种改进心脏起搏器的新方法。 8. 根据“Their main problem is that they use batteries. It’s all because of one great woman—Wang Hong. Wang was born in 1991 in Guilin. Her parents were both middle school teachers. She showed an unusual talent for maths at an early age. When she was just five years old, she already finished first-grade maths and went to second grade directly. Some people think talent makes life easy. But Wang’s path was far from smooth. In middle school, her grades were not good at first—she was not in the top 100. But she didn’t give up. With great passion for maths, she worked harder, and later became one of the top ten students in her grade. At the age of sixteen, she entered Peking University and learned more about maths. In 2011, Wang went to France to study. “I felt a little lost at that time,” the girl said. “I gave up on maths and studied architecture (建筑学) for six months. Then I remembered how hard I had learned maths before. I only doubted myself because my classmates were all very smart. ” Wang became confident again and returned to maths. She studied even harder and got her PhD at MIT (美国麻省理工学院). This past February, Wang did something really amazing. She solved a century-old maths problem—the Kakeya conjecture (卡凯亚猜想). But as people increasingly turn to digital platforms in search of opportunity, Danicla Saban, an associate professor of operations, information, and technology at Stanford Graduate School of Business, says it’s time to take a critical look at the role of algorithms (算法). She explores how properly designed algorithms can improve the fairness and effectiveness of matching processes. Saban has focused much of her research on what she calls “matching markets,” and she’s been particularly fascinated by online dating. In one study, she and several coauthors partnered with a major U.S. dating platform to explore how updates to the app’s algorithm could improve outcomes for romantic hopefuls looking to spark new connections. Analyzing data from the app, Saban developed a model that not only prioritized potential matches based on a user’s preferences but also took into account the likelihood that the person on the other side of the potential match would be interested. “I not only want to show you people that you will like, I also want to show you people that will like you back,” Saban notes. Factoring in users’ history, activity levels, and this two-sided approach to preference led to a substantial increase in matches during field experiments in Texas. “Our algorithm increased the number of matches by 27% in Houston and by over 37% in Austin,” Saban says. Similarly, when working with the volunteer matching platform Volunteer Match, Saban identified an imbalance in how volunteer opportunities were being distributed. Some organizations were receiving an overwhelming number of sign-ups, sometimes even more than they needed, while others struggled to attract any volunteers at all. By adjusting the search algorithm to consider the number of volunteers an organization needs and has already received. Saban and her team were able to ensure a more reasonable distribution of volunteers across opportunities. The technical details of algorithms may be complicated, but our commitment to fairness and equity doesn’t have to be. If we want algorithms to work for good, we need to make conscious choices about how we design them. 8.How do people search for opportunities nowadays? A.By learning algorithms. B.By making use of online tools. C.By developing critical thinking. D.By analyzing the matching processes. 9.What do we know about the model Saban developed for the dating app? A.It has attracted more users to the app. B.It makes a user’s preferences a top priority. C.It focuses on two-sided preference matching. D.It presents more potential matches to the users. 10.On what basis did Saban adjust the algorithm of Volunteer Match? A.The preferences of the volunteers. B.The popularity of the organizations. C.A match between volunteer and organization types. D.A balance between the demand and supply of volunteers. 11.Which of the following can be a suitable title for the text? A.The Power of Digital Matchmaking B.A New Era of Opportunity Searching C.Designing Algorithms for Better Matches D.Volunteering Better with Equal Distribution 【答案】8.B 9.C 10.D 11.C 【导语】本文是一篇说明文,介绍了斯坦福大学商学院的Danicla Saban教授研究如何通过合理设计算法提升各类匹配市场的公平性和有效性。 8.文章第一段第二句“as people increasingly turn to digital platforms in search of opportunity”指出,如今人们越来越多地借助数字平台寻找机会,数字平台属于在线工具的范畴。 9.文章第三段第一句“Saban developed a model that not only prioritized potential matches based on a user’s preferences but also took into account the likelihood that the person on the other side of the potential match would be interested”、第三句“Factoring in users’ history, activity levels, and this two-sided approach to preference led to a substantial increase in matches during field experiments in Texas”指出,Saban为约会应用开发的模型不仅会根据用户的偏好筛选潜在匹配对象,还会考虑对方对该用户感兴趣的可能性,采用了双向偏好匹配的方式。 10.文章第四段第二句“Some organizations were receiving an overwhelming number of sign-ups, sometimes even more than they needed, while others struggled to attract any volunteers at all”、第三句“By adjusting the search algorithm to consider the number of volunteers an organization needs and has already received, Saban and her team were able to ensure a more reasonable distribution of volunteers across opportunities”指出,Saban是根据各个机构对志愿者的需求数量和已招募到的志愿者数量,也就是志愿者的供需平衡来调整Volunteer Match的算法的。 11.文章第一段最后一句“She explores how properly designed algorithms can improve the fairness and effectiveness of matching processes”、最后一段最后一句“If we want algorithms to work for good, we need to make conscious choices about how we design them”指出,文章核心围绕合理设计算法以提升匹配的效果和公平性展开,还通过两个实际案例验证了优化算法的作用,因此“为更好的匹配设计算法”是适合的文章标题。 一、阅读理解应用文 English Learning Program English Speech & Drama (戏剧) Program By taking the courses here, students will not only improve their speaking but also learn how to plan their studies in the future. They discussed for a while but still no one seemed willing to take her. Finally, Joe Thompson, a kind man, couldn’t leave Maggie behind. He carried her home gently. As he got home, Jane, his childless, ill-tempered (易怒的) wife, angrily questioned, “What did you bring her here for?” “She is too weak to walk,” replied Joe. “I will carry her to the poorhouse tomorrow and the guardians (管理人) there must be seen first.” “Why not get the whole thing off your hands tonight?” “Keep this poor child for a single night, please,” begged Joe, voice shaking, tears hidden. Jane didn’t answer, but a soft feeling rose in her heart. “Treat her nicely,” said Joe. “Think of the loneliness, pain and sadness in her coming life.” Jane went quietly into the room where Maggie was. Joe didn’t follow. He noticed that Jane’s attitude (态度) had changed. She sat by Maggie’s bed, talking kindly to her. Maggie’s eyes were fixed upon Jane. The little girl’s expression was sad yet thankful. “What are you going to do with Maggie?” Jane asked after supper. “You knew she was to go to the poorhouse,” replied Joe. Jane looked strangely at Joe and her eyes dropped. Early the next morning, Jane said to Joe, “Let’s keep her a day or two longer. She is so weak and helpless.” Actually, Joe never saw the guardians at all. For within a week, Jane was so kind to Maggie that she would rather live in the poorhouse herself than send Maggie there. At the same time, Maggie brought happiness to their lives in return. Their home was filled with laughter and love. ——Adapted from An Angel in Disguise 1.Why did Joe Thompson decide to take Maggie home? A.Because the villagers forced him to do so. He carried her home gently”,说明Joe是因为太同情Maggie,不忍心把她留在路边,所以才决定带她回家。 2.文中划线句“What did you bring her here for?” 3.文中提到“As he got home, Jane, his childless, ill - tempered (易怒的) wife, angrily questioned”以及“She sat by Maggie’s bed, talking kindly to her”,说明Jane一开始对Maggie态度不好,后来变得很友善,对应图A从下往上持续上升的趋势。 4.文中提到Jane一开始易怒,对Joe带Maggie回家很生气,但后来“She sat by Maggie’s bed, talking kindly to her”以及“For within a week, Jane was so kind to Maggie that she would rather live in the poorhouse herself than send Maggie there”,说明她看似冷漠,实则有一颗温暖的心。 5. Jack Jackson was a normal boy who liked playing baseball with his friends. Not many people knew that his big brother was Ernie Jackson, the famous reporter for the Calgary Times. One Saturday, Ernie told Jack that he was investigating (调查) a very difficult case and that he was worried he couldn’t solve it. The case was about Modeline Mulrooney, the richest woman in Calgary. Her diamond ring was missing. “She thinks her swimming coach took it,” Ernie said. “However, he says he hasn’t stolen anything. I’m not sure who to believe.” “I’ll help you,” said Jack. “Let’s interview Mrs. Mulrooney together.” The brothers went to Mrs. Mulrooney’s home. Mrs. Mulrooney explained what happened. She said that she always put her ring on the coffee table before she swam in her pool. “The water in the pool isn’t good for my ring, and it also dries my skin,” she said. “I always put on hand cream and wear cotton gloves to bed.” “Where are the gloves now?” Jack asked. “I throw them away each morning,” she said, pointing to a rubbish bin. Jack rushed over to the bin. He searched through it and pulled out many gloves. Carefully, he felt each one, and then he smiled. “Your ring is right here,” said Jack. “The cream was slippery, so your ring came off with this glove. You only noticed it after swimming.” “You solved the case?” shouted Ernie. “You’re my hero!” said Mrs. Mulrooney. The next day, the headline of the Calgary Times read, “Young Reporter Discovers Missing Diamond!” Jack celebrated by playing baseball with his friends. However, he wondered if there were any more cases to solve. 6.Why did Mrs. Mulrooney take off her ring before swimming? A.She was afraid to lose her ring. B.The coach warned her not to wear it. C.She planned to put it with her gloves. D.The water might do harm to her ring. 7.What does “slippery” mean in this story? A.Dry and very hard to move. B.Heavy and thick, like the glue. C.Smooth and easy to fall off. D.Shiny and bright, like a diamond. 8.What’s the CORRECT order of the story? ① The woman went swimming as usual. ② Jack asked the woman about her daily habit. ③ Jack learned about the case from his brother. ④ The woman wore gloves before going to bed. A.①-④-②-③ B.③-②-①-④ C.①-④-③-② D.③-②-④-① 9.What’s the best title for the story? A.A Stolen Diamond Ring B.A Careful Clue Finder C.A Guilty Swimming Coach D.A Boy’s Lucky Discovery 【答案】6.D 7.C 8.C 9.B 【导语】本文是一篇记叙文,讲述了普通男孩Jack帮助记者哥哥侦破钻石戒指失踪案的故事。 6.第五段Mrs. Mulrooney的原话“The water in the pool isn’t good for my ring”直接说明她取下戒指是因为泳池的水可能对戒指造成损害。 7. Lin Yutang was a famous writer, translator and inventor. He shared different cultures through his stories and even made a machine for languages. He was truly a man of many talents. As a child, Lin loved reading and wanted to understand how the world worked, and that curiosity stayed with him all his life. He first studied in Shanghai, then went to Harvard University to further his studies. Later, he achieved his PhD (博士学位) in Germany. Lin learned about different languages and ways of thinking. This helped him become a cultural bridge between the East and the West. Lin worked hard to share Chinese culture with the world. He became well-known for telling stories about Chinese life. Everyone in the village had jobs to do, and the villagers depended on one another. When Adana turned ten, her mother called for her. “Adana, it is time for you to take your place in the village. You shall be the water girl. Each morning we need you to go down to the spring, fill these buckets with water, and bring them back to the village before noon.” Adana felt proud of being given such an important job. She picked up the yoke (扁担) with the buckets, flung it over her back and walked to the spring. When she arrived, she took a drink and then filled the buckets with clean, cool water. Adana looked at the sun. It was nearly noon, and she knew the villagers were depending on her. She turned to a water girl from a nearby village and asked, “How long will it take to carry water back to my village?” The girl thoughtfully replied, “If you go slowly, it will not take very long. But, if you go fast, it will take you all day.” Adana listened and thought about what the girl had told her. She did not believe the girl and she climbed back up the bank and headed down to the path toward her village. Adana started off slowly but increased her speed with each step. Soon, she was slowly jogging back toward her village. Halfway home, she stopped to take a little sip of water. When she did, she saw that the buckets were only half full. Water had been sloshing (撒出) out along the path as she travelled. Disheartened (沮丧的), Adana turned back toward the spring. Once again. She filled the buckets with nice, clean water. Then, she walked slowly back toward the village. When she arrived, her little sister asked, “How long does it take to carry water back from the spring?” Adana smiled and said, “If you go slowly, it will not take very long. But if you go fast, it could take all day.” Adana’s little sister listened, but thought this was a strange thing to say. From that day forward, Adana walked quickly to the spring each morning. On her way home, she walked slowly and carefully. 17.How did Adana feel when her mother gave her the job? A.She was too afraid to walk to the spring on her own. A.Because Adana usually ran very fast. B.Because the job is harder than she thought. C.Because it was the opposite of common sense. D.Because her sister had never been to the spring. 20.What can we learn from the story? A.Helping others is the key to a happy life B.The first method you try is usually the best one. C.Patience and care sometimes lead to better results. D.New duties are always challenging at the beginning. 17.第三段提到“Adana felt proud of being given such an important job.”,并且她知道村民们都指望着她,这说明她对这份职责有着强烈的使命感。 18. 19.最后一段Adana告诉妹妹“If you go slowly, it will not take very long. But if you go fast, it could take all day.”,这与常理“走得快就更省时”相反,因此妹妹觉得奇怪。 James Watson, who passed away on November 6, 2025, was a world-famous scientist known as the “Father of DNA”. He was born in 1928. His most famous achievement was discovering the double-helix structure (结构) of DNA with Francis Crick in 1953. This discovery was a huge step in the field of genetics. It was like unlocking the secret code of life, as DNA includes all the genetic information that makes each living thing different. People have known about DNA since 1869. But for a long time, nobody knew its structure. To find out, Watson worked with Francis Crick in the UK. They studied X-ray pictures of DNA taken by another scientist, Rosalind Franklin. This led them to find out that DNA has two strands (缕,股). These strands twist around each other into a double helix. Watson and Crick won the Nobel Prize in 1962. Watson’s work opened up new ways of understanding how genes are passed on from parents to children and how they affect our health and characteristics. After the discovery, he continued to work in genetics, making more contributions to the field. He also wrote many books to share his knowledge and ideas with the public. Later in life, Watson also related genes with race (种族), saying that black people are less intelligent than white people. He lost his job for this in 2007. Although Watson had some controversial (有争议的) views later, his scientific achievements cannot be ignored (忽略). His discovery changed the way we think about life and laid the base for modern genetic research. His story shows us the power of curiosity and hard work at scientific knowledge. 1.Why did James Watson win the Nobel Prize? A.He used X-rays to study DNA. B.He successfully took pictures of DNA. C.He discovered the structure of DNA. D.He found out that there is DNA. 2.What might DNA look like? A.B. C.D. 3.What does the underlined word “unlocking” in Paragraph 2 mean? A.keeping a secret B.finding the key C.making a lock D.hiding something important 4.What can we learn from the last paragraph? A.Genes have nothing to do with race. B.Watson’s scientific achievements are highly valuable. C.Watson’s controversial views had little effect on his career. D.Watson’s story shows that luck is the key to scientific success. 1.第三段指出原因:“Watson and Crick won the Nobel Prize in 1962.”以及前文提到“His most famous achievement was discovering the double-helix structure (结构) of DNA with Francis Crick in 1953.”,说明詹姆斯·沃森获奖是因为他发现了DNA的结构。 2.第二段提到“This led them to find out that DNA has two strands (缕,股). These strands twist around each other into a double helix.”,说明DNA看起来是两条链相互缠绕形成双螺旋结构。 3.第二段中“It was like unlocking the secret code of life, as DNA includes all the genetic information that makes each living thing different.”,结合语境,这里说DNA包含所有让每个生物不同的遗传信息,就像解开生命的密码,所以“unlocking”意思是解开、找到关键。 4.最后一段提到“Although Watson had some controversial (有争议的) views later, his scientific achievements cannot be ignored (忽略). His discovery changed the way we think about life and laid the base for modern genetic research.”,说明沃森的科学成就具有很高的价值。 We’ve all heard the terms “early bird” and “night owl (猫头鹰)”. For years, people divided others by sleep habits: early birds sleep and wake early, feeling most energetic in the morning; night owls, however, stay up late, are more awake at night, and like to sleep longer in the morning. But recently, sleep researcher Dr. Michael Breus came up with a more exact way to group people—this way is based on “sleep chronotypes (时间类型)”. According to Dr. Breus, every person is divided into one of four sleep chronotypes: lion, bear, wolf, or dolphin. Each group is a little like the sleeping habits of the animal it is named after, and has its own special features. Lions are the earliest. They’re ready for bed around 9 p.m. and wake naturally by 5 a.m., doing their best work before noon. Confident and leader-like, they often exercise early. But don’t ask a lion to do too much after noon—their energy usually goes down later in the day. Bears sleep and wake up a little later than lions. Studies show that most humans are in the bear group because they usually sleep from around 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. and work best between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. ▲ This explains why the classic nine-to-five workday suits them so well. Wolves are the true night owls. They don’t like waking up before 8 a.m. and their brains work best in the afternoon. They often have trouble getting to work on time for the usual 9 a.m. start. But if they are given tasks at the right time of day, they can get a lot done. With a free timetable, wolves can do a lot to help. Dolphins’ sleep time is often not fixed. One reason is that they easily feel worried and keep thinking about things. So it’s important for dolphins to have a fixed time before bed to help their body and mind relax, so they can get ready for sleep. It’s interesting to note that dolphins are very creative and good at solving problems. Knowing which group you are in helps you find out when you are most likely to feel energetic and get things done. If you plan your work and free time according to your natural sleep pattern, you can work well and sleep better. 5.Why are “early bird” and “night owl” mentioned at the beginning? A.To list two popular sleep habits. B.To start the topic of a new finding. C.To explain two animal habits. D.To give the result of a sleep study. 6.Which of the following is the most suitable for ▲ ? A.Their sleep pattern is the most popular in society. B.They sometimes feel tired during long meetings. C.For this reason, they seldom need an alarm clock. D.Surprisingly, many artists are members of this group. 7.If someone feels most creative in the afternoon but often arrives late for a 9 a.m. meeting, they are most likely a ________. A.lion B.bear C.wolf D.dolphin 8.What is the main idea of the last paragraph? A.Introduce a new research finding. B.Give suggestions on using the finding. C.Describe a common old understanding. D.Provide more information on the finding. A“Their sleep way is the most popular in society.”,承接前文“多数人是熊型”,引出后文“朝九晚五适合这个群体”,逻辑通顺。 7.第五段介绍狼型睡眠的特点“Wolves are the true night owls. They don’t like waking up before 8 a.m. and their brains work best in the afternoon. They often have trouble getting to work on time for the usual 9 a.m. start.”:不喜欢早上8点前起床,大脑在下午状态最好,经常无法准时赶上早上9点的上班/开会时间,完全符合题干描述。 8. In shopping malls in Chinese cities, more and more foreign tourists are buying high-tech products made in China. For example, at a main DJI store, which is a famous tech company, a filmmaker from Switzerland bought a camera. He said these products are not expensive, easy to carry, and have the latest functions. This is not only about cameras. In Hangzhou, a city known for technology, visitors can buy special gifts that use modern science. These include things like smart glasses and beautiful scarves. People can even use a computer program to design their own scarf pattern. This makes the scarf very special and different from others, so it becomes a great souvenir (纪念品). Two main reasons explain this change. First, Chinese companies make good products that are useful and easy to use for everyone around the world. Second, the government has created helpful rules. One important rule makes it easy for tourists to get back some of the money they spend, a process called a tax refund. Now, they can often get this money quickly through a phone app. Also, people from many countries do not need a visa, a special travel paper which allows that person to enter, stay in, or leave that country for a certain period of time, to visit China, making travel simpler. Because of this, products like DJI cameras are now commonly bought by international travelers. They represent China’s ability to create new and useful things. As technology and services keep improving, these high-tech products will likely attract even more buyers from all over the world. 9.How does the writer talk about the high-tech products made in China? A.By giving reasons. B.By listing numbers. C.By asking a question. D.By giving an example. 10.What can we infer about the scarves in Hangzhou? A.They are the most popular souvenir in China. B.They make visitors feel more creative and special. C.They are too difficult for most people to design. D.They are only bought by foreign tourists. 11.The Chinese government’s rules are important because they help tourists ________. A.save money when shopping B.receive free travel guides C.find new friends abroad D.learn Chinese quickly 12.What is the main idea of this passage? A.Shopping in China is very fun. B.Hangzhou has many good stores. C.China’s tech products attract visitors. D.Making souvenirs is a new style. 9.文章第一段以“For example, at a main DJI store, which is a famous tech company, a filmmaker from Switzerland bought a camera. He said these products are not expensive, easy to carry, and have the latest functions.” 10.第二段提到“People can even use a computer program to design their own scarf pattern. This makes the scarf very special and different from others, so it becomes a great souvenir (纪念品).”,能推断出这种围巾让游客感到更有创意和特别。 11.第三段指出“the government has created helpful rules. One important rule makes it easy for tourists to get back some of the money they spend, a process called a tax refund.”,这能帮助游客在购物时省钱。 12. When we talk about spending habits, we usually think about whether we save or waste money. We seldom think about the “carbon footprint” or other harms to the environment. But recent studies tell us that our spending habits have harmed the environment a lot. These habits include buying too much, using too much wrapping (包装), and depending too much on online shopping. First, let’s talk about buying too much. Ads for new products and frequent sales make it hard for us to refuse “good deals”. I often buy things I don’t really need, like more shampoos or makeup. Some of them even go bad before I open them! In the US, the number of people has grown by 60% since 1970, but people spend 4 times more money. This means more resources are used to make products, and more waste is produced. Unluckily, many unused things are thrown away, which makes pollution worse and fills landfills. Using too much wrapping is another problem. I like getting beautifully wrapped gifts and I’m glad to decorate gifts for others, because it shows my care and thanks. Wrapping paper, ribbons and cards look nice, but people throw them away right after opening the gifts. Most of these materials can’t be reused. So they end up in crowded landfills and pollute water, soil and air. For example, Americans send over 2 billion Christmas cards every year. The paper used is enough to build a 61-story building! Tons of ribbons are thrown away too. Smartphones have changed our spending habits greatly, making us depend more on online shopping. I like online shopping because it’s easy—I can buy things anytime and anywhere. But this convenience (方便) hurts the environment a lot. Online orders need more wrapping. What’s more, over 30% of online goods are sent back, which doubles the environmental cost. Every year,241 million tons of shipping boxes are made, using 3 billion trees. In 2020, shipping and returning goods caused 37% of greenhouse gas emissions (排放物). Fast fashion is very popular among young people like me. But it uses a lot of resources: 93billion cubic meters of water every year, which can meet the needs of 5 million people. It also causes about 20% of industrial water pollution. Besides, it produces 10% of global carbon emissions and this number may rise by 50% by 2030. Cheap materials like polyester (聚酯纤维) are hard to reuse, adding more waste. Our spending habits have made natural resources run out quickly, and produced waste and pollution that are hard to fix. So I think it’s time for us to check our spending habits and try to change. In this way, we can be more thoughtful shoppers and protect the environment better. 13.What does “carbon footprint” probably mean in Paragraph 1? A.The daily habits of saving carbon-based energy. A. B. C. A. B. C. D. 【示例】 Where is the world’s best high-speed rail system? A. B. C. D. (三)、阅读理解说明文 (2025·江苏常州·中考真题) For those whose hearts often go off beat, pacemakers (心脏起搏器) are life savers. A.No Need to Use Pacemakers B.The Problem with Piezoelectric Materials C.The Contribution of Chinese Scientists to Heart Operations D.Chinese Scientists Found a New Way to Improve Pacemakers 一、应用文 (2026·江苏南通·一模) Youth Football Academy Youth Football Academy will offer football courses for children aged 5 to 15 during the holidays in June and December, 2025. She studied even harder and got her PhD at MIT This past February, Wang did something really amazing. She solved a century-old maths problem—the Kakeya conjecture Mathematicians (数学家) all over the world were so surprised and excited! Now, Wang is a professor at two great universities. A.The Power of Digital Matchmaking B.A New Era of Opportunity Searching C.Designing Algorithms for Better Matches D.Volunteering Better with Equal Distribution 一、阅读理解应用文 English Learning Program English Speech & Drama (戏剧) Program By taking the courses here, students will not only improve their speaking but also learn how to plan their studies in the future. The villagers felt pity for the poor child. “Take her to the poorhouse,” a villager suggested. “The poorhouse is a sad place for a sick and helpless child,” answered another. Mulrooney. In books like My Country and My People, he introduced Chinese ideas and daily life to Western readers. He also wrote novels like Moment in Peking. These stories showed how Chinese people lived and stayed strong during wartime. Lin also helped create a Chinese-English dictionary, which made it easier for people to understand Chinese words. Besides, Lin introduced Western culture to China. In 1924, he created the Chinese word “幽默” from the English word “humor”. Lin believed that humor showed a kind, open, forward-looking and wise way of living. Lin’s creativity didn’t stop with writing and translation. He was also an inventor. Chinese characters (汉字) made typing a real challenge. Lin spent years designing a Chinese typewriter. In 1947, his MingKwai typewriter finally came out. Teachers, publishers, and researchers all found it very useful. It also played an important role in language research. 10.What helped Lin Yutang become a cultural bridge? Therefore, Fu Jian’s parents didn’t want him to work in this industry at first. But Fu didn’t care. He believed he could do it well. Fu was born into an embroidery family in Yangzhou. His mother is a master craftswoman (女工匠) of Suzhou embroidery. Fu fell in love with this beautiful art when he was four years old. In his last year of high school, Fu set his life goal clearly. “Although many people know about this traditional art, I want to help them learn more about it.” he said. After graduating from college, Fu and his mother built a research center of Suzhou embroidery. Since then, he has invented many new stitches (针法). He has also trained many workers. Fu spends a lot of time on his works. Even so, he enjoys it. “I often work late until midnight, but I never feel tired. I think that’s because I’m doing what I love.” said the 37-year-old. Most recently, the artist “created” a piece of bronze ware (青铜器皿) on cloth. What gave him the idea to create this work? “Many bronzes can only be seen in museums. A work of embroidery, however, can be hung in one’s home or office. People can see it at any time,” said Fu. 14.What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 2 refer to? A.His life goal. We’ve all heard the terms “early bird” and “night owl (猫头鹰)”. B.The influence of human activities on the environment. C.A kind of footprint left by animals that produce carbon. D.The amount of money spent on carbon-related products. 14.How much global carbon emissions will fast fashion produce in 2030? A.10%. B.15%. C.50%. D.60%. 15.Which of the following actions is friendly to the environment? A.Buy more shampoos than we need and some go bad. B.Choose gifts with more beautiful and fashionable wrapping. C.Use reusable cloth bags instead of plastic bags when shopping. D.Return online goods in time if they don’t look as good as we expect. 16.What is the writer’s main reason for writing this passage? A.To explain why online shopping and fast fashion are popular. B.To introduce different popular spending habits among young people. C.To tell readers how to save money through changing spending habits. D.To show that spending habits harm the environment and call for changes. A hobby can be almost anything a person likes to do in his free time. Hobbyists keep pets, build model ships, watch birds, climb mountains, grow flowers, fish, ski, skate, swim, etc. Hobbyists also paint pictures, attend concerts and plays and perform on musical instruments. They collect everything from books to butterflies, and from coins to stamps. People have hobbies because these activities offer enjoyment, friendship, knowledge and relaxation. Sometimes they even make some money by following a hobby. Hobbies help people relax after hard work, and provide a balance between work and play. Hobbies also offer more interesting activities for persons who have retired (退休). Anyone, rich or poor, old or young, sick or well, can follow an interesting hobby. Hobbies are good for a person’s mental (精神的) and physical health. Doctors have found that hobbies are helpful for patients to recover (恢复) from physical or mental illnesses. Hobbies give patients something to do, and provide interest that keeps them from thinking about themselves. In early years, most people were too busy making a living to have many hobbies. People today have more time than before for hobbies. Machines have reduced the amount (数量) of time they must spend on their jobs. More people retire at an earlier age than before. Those who have developed hobbies never need to worry about what to do with their free hours. Sir William Osier, a famous Canadian doctor, expressed the value of hobbies by saying, “No man is really happy or safe without a hobby.” 17.What is the main advantage of having a hobby for people who have retired? A.It helps them make more friends after leaving work. B.It offers them enjoyable activities to fill their free time. C.It allows them to earn extra money to support themselves. D.It improves their physical strength through various exercises. 18.What have doctors found about hobbies and health? A.Physical hobbies like sports are not good for health. B.Hobbies can take the place of medical treatment for patients. C.Hobbies are helpful for mental health, not for physical health. D.Hobbies help patients forget about their illnesses and recover faster. 19.Why do people today have more time for hobbies than before? A.Because they don’t need to sleep as much as before. B.Because schools teach students how to develop hobbies. C.Because people today are less interested in working hard. D.Because machines have reduced their working hours and some retire earlier. 20.What is the main topic of the passage? A.Different kinds of hobbies around the world. B.The advantages and importance of having a hobby. C.How hobbies can help people make more money. D.The history of hobbies from the past to the present.
