As the survey points out, many teenagers spend more than four hours a day on social platforms, ____2____ (exposed) to endless comparisons and negative comments that deepen their sense of inferiority. What surprises experts most is ____3____ most parents fail to notice the subtle changes in their children’s mental state, such as sudden withdrawal from social activities or persistent mood swings. Even though schools have launched some mental health courses, they ____4____ (not design) to address the root causes of teenagers’ anxiety, leaving many young people without proper guidance when they are in trouble. A team of psychologists from the University of Oxford suggests that parents ____5____ (spend) more quality time with their children, listening to their worries rather than just focusing on their exam scores. ____6____ they may be busy with work, parents should try their best to accompany their children, as teenagers feel that their voices are heard and their feelings are valued only when they get enough care. It is also important that schools cooperate with professional mental health organizations ____7____ professional counselors can work closely with teachers. The survey also finds that ____8____ (take) part in regular physical activities or joining interest clubs helps teenagers reduce anxiety, for these activities help them release stress and build confidence. Solving the teenage mental health crisis requires joint efforts from families, schools and society. No matter how difficult the process may be, we must stick to it, ____9____ every young person deserves a healthy and happy adolescence. Only in this way____10____ we help teenagers grow into positive and resilient adults who can face the challenges of the future bravely. 1.whose 2.exposed 3.that 4.are not designed 5.(should) spend 6.Though/Although 7.where 8.taking 9.for 10.can 【导语】 这是一篇说明文。 主语many teenagers与expose为被动关系(be exposed to为固定搭配,意为“暴露于……”),用过去分词作伴随状语。故填exposed。 3. 故填that。 4. 主语they(指代mental health courses)与design为被动关系,结合语境用一般现在时的被动语态,否定形式为are not designed。故填are not designed。 5. 故填(should) spend。 6. 故填Though/Although。 7. 故填where。 8. 故填for。 10. 故填can。 Section B Directions: Fill in each blank with a proper word chosen from the box. Fill in each blank with the word or phrase that best fits the context. Keeping Up With “Irrelevant” News Today’s world is something of a contradiction. Even though we are being given access to more information than ever before, we are 21 enough becoming less informed. As we scroll through thousands of postings each day on social media, we see lots of gossip about celebrities and read people’s opinions about various issues. However, because we can now “choose (whether being forced to or not)” the news we read, we may be missing the news we “need.” According to a new survey released by Gallup, about 58% of Americans get their news from online sources, 38% from television and radio, and only 3% from printed newspapers and magazines. In Shanghai, we can also see the evidence of this drop in print media readership with the 22 of the red kiosks (书报亭) that used to be ubiquitous (无处不在的) around the city. This is 23 , as I see it, since newspapers and magazines, which explain stories in more detail, are still one of the most reliable sources of news today. I got into the habit of reading news stories when I was in high school. Every morning I would 24 a copy of The Globe and Mail, a Canadian newspaper based in Toronto, and read through it during my lunch break. Both top stories on the front page and the small ones on the inside pages looked 25 to me. As an added 26 reading news stories everyday has made me feel better connected to the wider world. Last February, terrible earthquakes hit Turkey and Syria. News about this event spread like wildfire. Instead of seeing it as a tragic story in a faraway place that did not have an effect on other countries, the international community 27 stepped in to help. Within 48 hours rescue teams from around the world were sent to the stricken areas. They worked to save the lives of those who were trapped beneath the rubble of collapsed buildings and to help other survivors 28 the cold of winter by giving them medical aid and supplying them with the basic necessities of life. That being said, some may still argue that all news is, ultimately, 29 to them. It’s likely that few of us would be able to name a news story in the last month that helped us to make a more informed 30 in our personal lives. If there is something I’ve noticed about people, including myself, is that we are almost always poor at 31 between what is and is not “relevant.” For me, I never 32 that the habit of reading news stories would end up helping me with my schoolwork and that it would later help pave the path to my future career. By reading well-written newspaper articles, I was able to include some of the information in my essays and to 33 my own writing skills. 34 , the news allows us to understand the world and our place in it. But bear in mind that online news sources can be less reliable unless they are a(n) 35 source such as Xinhua or, of course, our very own SSP. 21.A.curiously B.fortunately C.interestingly D.strangely 22.A.disadvantage B.disappearance C.disapproval D.disconnection 23.A.meaningful B.necessary C.reasonable D.unfortunate 24.A.hand out B.pick up C.show off D.throw away 25.A.abstract B.boring C.fascinating D.weird 26.A.bonus B.chance C.priority D.task 27.A.hesitantly B.instantly C.pleasantly D.reluctantly 28.A.celebrate B.endure C.record D.realize 29.A.immoral B.insignificant C.irrelevant D.unbelievable 30.A.complaint B.decision C.effort D.mistake 31.A.balancing B.distinguishing C.regulating D.switching 32.A.announced B.expected C.learned D.suggested 33.A.abandon B.boast C.improve D.share 34.A.By contrast B.For instance C.In short D.On average 35.A.controversial B.established C.independent D.profitable 【答案】 21.D 22.B 23.D 24.B 25.C 26.B 27.B 28.B 29.C 30.B 31.B 32.B 33.C 34.C 35.C 【导语】这是一篇说明文。 A. curiously好奇地;B. fortunately幸运地;C. interestingly有趣地;D. strangely奇怪地。根据上文“Even though we are being given access to more information than ever before”以及后文“enough becoming less informed”可知,前后是矛盾、反差,指尽管我们如今能够获取到比以往任何时候都多的信息,但奇怪的是,我们的知识水平却在下降。故选D。 22. A. disadvantage缺点;B. disappearance消失;C. disapproval不赞成;D. disconnection断开。根据后文“the red kiosks that used to be ubiquitous around the city.” 根据后文“since newspapers and magazines, which explain stories in more detail, are still one of the most reliable sources of news today”可知,作者认为报纸和杂志能够更详细地解读新闻内容,而它们仍是当今最可靠的新闻来源之一,所以消失是一件不幸的事。故选D。 24. A. hand out分发;B. pick up取走,捡起;C. show off炫耀;D. throw away扔掉。根据后文“a copy of The Globe and Mail, a Canadian newspaper based in Toronto, and read through it during my lunch break”可知,作者有早上取报纸阅读的习惯。故选B。 25. A. abstract抽象的;B. boring无聊的;C. fascinating迷人的;D. weird怪异的。根据上文“since newspapers and magazines, which explain stories in more detail, are still one of the most reliable sources of news today”可知,作者喜欢读报,态度是正面,即新闻具有吸引力。故选C。 26. A. bonus奖金;B. chance机会;C. priority优先事项;D. task任务。根据后文“reading news stories everyday has made me feel better connected to the wider world”可知,阅读新闻报道的机会让作者感觉与更广阔的世界的联系更加紧密了。故选B。 27. A. hesitantly犹豫地;B. instantly立即;C. pleasantly愉快地;D. reluctantly不情愿地。根据上文“Last February, terrible earthquakes hit Turkey and Syria. (A) Once a year, Ursula Bannister climbs to High Rock Lookout, a viewpoint near Ashford, Washington, where she scattered her mother’s ashes 23 years ago. She usually hikes with someone along the 3.2-mile trail. Last August, Bannister, then 79, went off on her own, figuring she’d be fine because she’s an experienced hiker. She arrived at the trail at around 11 a.m. and made her way to the lookout. As she headed back down, her foot got caught in a hole in the ground. She fell forward. “By the time I sat up, my foot was pointing the wrong way. I knew right away I had broken my leg.” Bannister says. She cried out for help, and before long, a stranger approached and called 911. They were told a search and rescue team would arrive in five hours. “It wasn’t very encouraging.” Bannister says. “I asked this man to please ask anybody if they had painkillers, because at that point the pain was pretty substantial.” No one in the vicinity did. But two young men came over to see what was going on. When they saw Bannister on the ground in agony, they made an offer. They could carry the injured woman to the bottom of the trail. Troy May, an Air Force airman stationed at Joint Base Lewis McChord, had hiked up to the lookout that day with his friend Layton Allen. “I know I was capable of carrying her down,” says May, then 20. “I really didn’t make much of a decision; I just know I needed to carry her down if I could.” May eased Bannister onto his back and started hiking downward. He carried her for most of the nearly three-hour journey, and Allen carried her for the rest. Others pitched in as well: Shortly into the hike May, who was wearing cowboy boots, got blisters on the bottom of one foot. A man on the trail saw the situation and gave May his shoes, then continued on in his socks. “That was just one kindness,” says Bannister. A couple hiking that day also lent a hand. One, a physical therapist, bandaged Bannister’s foot and built a makeshift splint for her leg out of wooden scraps. The other, an occupational therapist, did breathing exercises with her to help calm her. “I was just overwhelmed with gratitude that these people literally came out of the woods to help me,” she says. During the long hike down, her rescuers shared stories and asked Bannister about her own life to distract her from the mounting pain. Their efforts to distract her worked, Bannister says. “If I didn’t focus on my pain, I didn’t scream quite as loudly,” she says. Once they reached the parking lot, Allen drove Bannister to the Tacoma General Hospital, about two hours away, and May followed them in his car. At the hospital, Bannister learned that she had broken her leg in three places — tibia, fibula and heel bone. “The emergency team was very impressed by the splint that the therapist had built,” says Bannister, adding that doctors told her the damage likely would have been worse had she waited longer to get medical attention. She arrived home that night at 1 a.m. with crutches and had to wait a week for the swelling to go down before she could undergo surgery. During her recovery, the people who helped her down from High Rock Lookout have checked in several times. “I think we’ll be friends for a really long time,” Bannister says. 36.What directly led to Ursula Bannister needing rescue during her hike? A.Severe weather conditions on the mountain trail. B.A fall caused by her foot trapped in a ground hole. C.Losing her way while descending alone. D.Exhaustion from the steep and lengthy climb. 37.How did the occupational therapist contribute to Bannister’s rescue? A.By carrying her down the mountain when others grew tired. B.By constructing a splint from wooden scraps for her leg. C.By alleviating her suffering with breathing exercises. D.By driving her to the hospital for immediate surgery. 38.The underlined sentence “...these people literally came out of the woods to help me” implies that the helpers______. A.were wildlife experts familiar with forest terrain. B.unexpectedly appeared from remote areas of the trail. C.required navigation through dense vegetation to reach her. D.intentionally hid in the woods before offering assistance. 39.What is the primary theme of the story? A.The necessity of professional medical training in wilderness emergencies. B.The risks elderly individuals face when engaging in strenuous outdoor activities. C.The profound impact of collective kindness from strangers in crises. D.The importance of advanced planning for solo hiking expeditions. 【答案】36.B 37.C 38.B 39.C 【导语】本文是一篇记叙文,主要讲述了79岁的厄休拉·班尼斯特独自徒步旅行时,因脚被地面的洞卡住摔倒骨折,在困境中得到众多陌生人帮助的故事。 36.细节理解题。根据第二段“As she headed back down, her foot got caught in a hole in the ground. I knew right away I had broken my leg.” Bannister says.(班尼斯特说:“等我坐起来的时候,我的脚指向了错误的方向。我立刻就知道我的腿断了。)”可知,直接导致厄休拉·班尼斯特在徒步旅行中需要救援的原因是她的脚被地上的洞卡住而摔倒,故选B项。 37.细节理解题。根据第九段“The other, an occupational therapist, did breathing exercises with her to help calm her.(另一位是职业治疗师,和她一起做呼吸练习来帮助她平静下来)”可知,职业治疗师通过陪她做呼吸练习来减轻她的痛苦,为救援做出了贡献,故选C项。 38.推理判断题。根据第九段““I was just overwhelmed with gratitude that these people literally came out of the woods to help me,” she says.(她说:“这些人真的从树林里出来帮助我,我感激不已”)”可知,这里“came out of the woods”形象地表明这些帮助她的人就像是突然从树林里出现一样,出乎她的意料,B选项“unexpectedly appeared from remote areas of the trail(意外地从偏远的山路区域出现)”符合语境。故选B项。 39.主旨大意题。文章讲述了班尼斯特在徒步受伤后,得到了众多陌生人如呼叫救援、背她下山、提供鞋子、做夹板、陪做呼吸练习、开车送医等帮助,这些陌生人的善意对处于危机中的她产生了深刻影响,C选项“The profound impact of collective kindness from strangers in crises.(危机中陌生人集体善意的深刻影响)能概括文章主题。故选C项。 (B) TOP HIKING TRAILS IN THE WORLD Posted on 04-15-25        Share From ancient stone paths to high mountain passes, these five hiking trails offer unforgettable journeys for adventurers around the globe. She was safe in only the most critical sense that she was alive. Her home and her business had been reduced to broken bricks. Puerto Rico has been destroyed by hurricanes. Last month, hundreds died in Mexican earthquakes. Hurricane Irma hit the U.S. Virgin Islands and the Florida Keys, and laid waste to Barbuda. Harvey devastated parts of Texas. Fifteen separate fires have turned thousands of Northern California homes and businesses to dust and smoked out neighboring cities. Closer to us, the Anaheim Hills fire has laid waste to nearly 6,000 acres. That number will be higher tomorrow. And about tomorrow: what might it bring? A swarm of locusts (蝗虫)? My friend referred to “natural” or “man-made” disasters as distinct phenomena. Certainly, “natural”disasters and “man-made” disasters long preceded (先于) the industrial revolution. But unprecedented hurricanes and wildfires are not simply the hand of God or nature — they are also the hand of man and his machines, which create conditions in which such natural disasters can spark and spread. Meanwhile, wars are often fought over or worsened by a scarcity of natural resources. “Natural” and “man-made”are now more like a Venn diagram than two separate circles which orbit each other. There is little comfort or clarity to be found in this knit space; the feeling is closer to dread. Our best hope may be to stay kind to ourselves and others, to acknowledge that we will fight and break a little easier, to hold those troubled by catastrophe (灾难) in our thoughts and not turn away from them, to remember that — as much as our minds might want to deny it — we too will need help. Climate change will harm us personally; it will harm our successors, those we love; that person on the news today, covered in debris or wading (跋涉) through water, may well be us tomorrow. It’s a mean truth, but there’s compassion to be obtained from it. Disaster, if we let it, can teach us that we who have not yet suffered are not untouchable; we are not special; we are lucky. And luck runs out. 43.Some factual examples are used to illustrate natural disasters in the first three paragraphs EXCEPT ________. A.fires in Northern California B.earthquakes in Mexico C.hurricanes in Puerto Rico D.locusts in parts of Texas 44.What does the author think of natural and man-made disasters? A.Earthquakes, floods, wildfires and other disasters are simply the call of God. B.Natural and man-made disasters are disturbingly interconnected with each other. C.There is scarcely a connection between the circles of “natural” and “man-made”. D.The hand of man and his machines didn’t spark wars until the industrial revolution. 45.In face of disasters, the author maintains that hopefully we might ________. A.realize we humans are unlikely to beat B.turn away from environmental protection C.extend our compassion to disaster victims D.stay informed of news about catastrophes 46.Which of the following is the best title for the passage? A.What Natural Disasters Can Teach Us B.We Are Running Out of Luck in Nature C.The Countdown to a Catastrophic Disaster D.Climate Change Harms All Beings Equally 【答案】43.D 44.B 45.C 46.A 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要讨论了自然灾害和人为灾害之间的联系,以及灾难给我们的启示。 43.细节理解题。根据第二段“Puerto Rico has been destroyed by hurricanes.(波多黎各被飓风摧毁了。)”、“Last month, hundreds died in Mexican earthquakes.(上个月,数百人在墨西哥地震中丧生。)”和“Fifteen separate fires have turned thousands of Northern California homes and businesses to dust and smoked out neighboring cities.(十五起接连发生的火灾将北加州数千栋住宅与商铺化为灰烬,浓烟笼罩了邻近城市。)”可知,前三段中提到了波多黎各的飓风、墨西哥的地震和北加州的大火,但没有提到德克萨斯州部分地区的蝗虫。故选D。 44.细节理解题。根据第三段“Meanwhile, wars are often fought over or worsened by a scarcity of natural resources. “Natural” and “man-made” are now more like a Venn diagram than two separate circles which orbit each other. There is little comfort or clarity to be found in this knit space; the feeling is closer to dread.(与此同时,战争往往因自然资源稀缺而爆发或加剧。“自然”和“人为”现在更像是一个维恩图,而不是两个相互环绕的独立圆圈。在这个交织的空间里,几乎找不到安慰或清晰;这种感觉更接近于恐惧。)”可知,作者认为自然灾害和人为灾害是相互交织、相互关联的,它们之间有着令人不安的联系。故选B。 45.推理判断题。根据最后一段“Our best hope may be to stay kind to ourselves and others, to acknowledge that we will fight and break a little easier, to hold those troubled by catastrophe (灾难) in our thoughts and not turn away from them, to remember that — as much as our minds might want to deny it — we too will need help.(我们最大的希望可能是对自己和他人保持友善,承认我们会更容易地挣扎和崩溃,把那些受灾难困扰的人放在心里,不要远离他们,记住——尽管我们的思想可能想要否认这一点——我们也需要帮助。)”可知,作者认为在面对灾难时,我们应该对受灾者表示同情和关心,不要远离他们,而是要给予帮助和支持。故选C。 46.主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是根据最后一段“Disaster, if we let it, can teach us that we who have not yet suffered are not untouchable; we are not special; we are lucky. And luck runs out.(灾难,如果我们允许的话,可以教会我们,那些尚未遭受苦难的人并不是不可触及的;我们并不特别;我们很幸运。而运气是会耗尽的。)”可知,文章主要讨论了自然灾害和人为灾害之间的联系,以及灾难给我们的启示,即灾难可以教会我们一些东西,让我们更加珍惜和感恩我们所拥有的一切。因此,A项“What Natural Disasters Can Teach Us(自然灾害能教会我们什么)”最符合文章主旨。故选A。 Section C Directions: Read the following passages. Fill in each blank with a proper sentence given in the box. Each sentence can be used only once. Note that there are two more sentences than you need. From classrooms to care homes Less than three years ago Ms Jiang was tidying away toys and singing rhymes as a teacher at a nursery in Beijing. She remembers parents knocking on the door in an effort to sign their children up. That gradually became rarer, until last year Ms Jiang found herself distributing promotional leaflets for the nursery in her lunchbreaks. 47 Last May Ms Jiang moved into a sector with better growth prospects: care homes and her abilities to teach handicrafts and play games come in useful. Between 2017 and 2022 China’s total fertility (生育) rate crashed from 1.8 to 1. Between 2021 and 2024 pupil numbers in pre-schools fell from 48m to 36m. Some 42,000 of 295,000 pre-schools have closed, and 360,000 of 3.2m pre-school teachers have quit. 48 Whereas China’s nursery-going group will fall by 14m in the next five years, the number of people aged 65 and over will rise from 211m to 256m. China badly needs more staff to care for them. In 2021 it had just half a million certified care workers. That made for just 0.27 care workers per 100 people aged 65 and above, a shockingly low number. Universities have launched degrees in elderly care. The first batch of students graduated last year, to hot demand. All this motivated one Ms Wu in 2023 to open her own care home in Jiangxi after years in nurseries. She has nine residents paying 2,600 yuan a month to be there. The outlook is bright, she says: right now those in care homes have multiple children on average. Those born in the 1970s and 1980s mostly have only one child, which means fewer people to look after them when they eventually get old. 49 She has also had a few from nursery teachers looking to make the switch she did. The government likes “mixed-use” facilities where both young and old are looked after. 50 It had facilities for table-tennis and space for calligraphy, and when the nursery teachers were free, they taught the elderly. The old certainly enjoy seeing the young; some grandparents even drop off tiny relatives at the nursery before heading to their own floor. A.A newspaper has called for local governments to provide funds for such projects. B.A silver lining exists for those sharp-witted enough to adapt. C.Caring for the elderly is easier than caring for young children. D.Last year in Chongqing, for example, an empty floor of a nursery was turned into an “elderly-care station”. E.Ms Wu gets enquiries almost every day from prospective customers. F.She realised the writing was on the wall. 【答案】47.F 48.B 49.E 50.D 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要讲述了中国由于生育率下降,幼儿园数量减少、教师流失,而老龄化加剧,养老护理需求大增,一些人从幼儿园转行到养老行业,政府也支持“混合用途”设施。 47.由上文“Less than three years ago Ms Jiang was tidying away toys and singing rhymes as a teacher at a nursery in Beijing. Summary Writing (10分) Directions: Read the following passage. Summarize the main idea and the main point(s) of the passage in no more than 60 words. Use your own words as far as possible. More and more corporations are taking an interest in corporate social responsibility (CSR). CSR is made up of three broad layers. The most basic is traditional corporate charity work. Companies typically spend about 1% of pre-tax profits on worthy projects. But many feel that simply writing cheques to charities is no longer enough. In some companies, shareholders want to know that their money is being put to good use, and employees want to be actively involved in good works. Money alone is not the answer when companies come under attack for their behavior. Hence the second layer of CSR, which is a branch of risk management. Starting in the 1980s, with environmental disasters such as the explosion at Bhopal and the Exxon Valdez oil spill, industry after industry has suffered blows to its reputation. So, companies often responded by trying to manage the risks. They talk to non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and to governments, create codes of conduct (行为准则) and devote themselves to more transparency (透明) in their operations. Increasingly, too, they, along with their competitors, set common rules to spread risks. All this is largely defensive, but there are also opportunities for those that get ahead of the game. The emphasis on opportunity is the third layer of CSR: the idea that it can help to create value. If approached in a strategic way, CSR could become part of a company’s competitive advantage. That is just the sort of thing chief executives like to hear. The idea of “doing well by doing good” has become popular.Nevertheless, the business of trying to be good is bringing difficult questions to executives. Can you measure CSR performance? Should you be cooperating with NGOs and you’re your competitors? Is there any really competitive advantage to be had from a green strategy? Corporate social responsibility is now seen as a mainstream. Big companies want to tell the world about their good citizenship with their devotion to social responsibilities. Done badly, CSR is often just window-dressing and can be positively harmful. Done well, though, it is not some separate activity that companies do on the side, a corner of corporate life reserved for virtue (美德): it is just good business. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】CSR comprises three layers: traditional charity, risk management addressing reputation crises since 1980s disasters, and strategic value creation. While poorly executed CSR is mere window-dressing, well-implemented CSR constitutes sound business practice rather than peripheral virtue. 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章介绍了企业社会责任 (CSR) 的三个层次:传统慈善、风险管理和战略价值创造,并指出CSR若执行得当便是良好的商业实践,反之则沦为表面功夫。 【详解】1. 要点摘录 ① CSR consists of three layers: traditional charity (about 1% pre-tax profits), risk management (responding to reputation crises since 1980s disasters), and strategic value creation (doing well by doing good). ② Companies manage risks by consulting NGOs, creating codes of conduct, and increasing transparency; they also set common rules with competitors. ③ Well-executed CSR is good business, but poorly done CSR is merely window-dressing and potentially harmful. 2. 缜密构思 将①②整合为“三层内涵+具体表现”,将③独立为“正反评价”,形成“定义—分层—评价”结构。 3. 遣词造句 CSR comprises three layers: traditional charity, risk management addressing reputation crises since 1980s disasters, and strategic value creation. While poorly executed CSR is mere window-dressing, well-implemented CSR constitutes sound business practice rather than peripheral virtue. 【点睛】[高分句型1] CSR comprises three layers: traditional charity, risk management addressing reputation crises since 1980s disasters, and strategic value creation.(运用了现在分词短语作后置定语) [高分句型2] While poorly executed CSR is mere window-dressing, well-implemented CSR constitutes sound business practice rather than peripheral virtue. (运用while连接并列句,表示对比关系) IV. Unlike mindless scrolling through social media, scientific reading helps teenagers develop a logical ____12____ and enables them to understand the world in a more rational and comprehensive way. A new collection of popular science books, designed by The Economist’s science editorial team, has gained popularity among teenagers. These books simplify complex scientific theories into engaging stories, adding unique ____13____ to abstract knowledge and making it easier for teenagers to grasp. For many students, such books help them escape academic ____14____ and discover the joy of exploring the mysteries of nature and technology. Yet, electronic devices have become major ____15____ to deep scientific reading. Constant pop-up notifications and short video recommendations interrupt teenagers’ reading flow, making it difficult for them to engage in deep thinking. These digital distractions ____16____ to the decline of teenagers’ ability to concentrate, which affects their ability to understand complex scientific content. The benefits of scientific reading are not always obvious at first; some are ____17____ and will manifest gradually in teenagers’ future study and career. It can enhance their learning efficiency, ____18____ their analytical skills and help them form a scientific outlook on life. Providing teenagers with easy ____19____ to high-quality popular science resources is key to motivating their passion for scientific exploration. In reality, scientific reading is by no means a waste of time. On the contrary, it is a ____20____ activity that enriches teenagers’ minds and enhances their comprehensive qualities, laying a solid foundation for their lifelong development. II. Reading Comprehension (21 – 35题,每题1分;36 – 50题,每题2分;共45分) Section A Directions: For each blank in the following passage there are four words or phrases marked A, B, C and D. 21.A.curiously B.fortunately C.interestingly D.strangely 22.A.disadvantage B.disappearance C.disapproval D.disconnection 23.A.meaningful B.necessary C.reasonable D.unfortunate 24.A.hand out B.pick up C.show off D.throw away 25.A.abstract B.boring C.fascinating D.weird 26.A.bonus B.chance C.priority D.task 27.A.hesitantly B.instantly C.pleasantly D.reluctantly 28.A.celebrate B.endure C.record D.realize 29.A.immoral B.insignificant C.irrelevant D.unbelievable 30.A.complaint B.decision C.effort D.mistake 31.A.balancing B.distinguishing C.regulating D.switching 32.A.announced B.expected C.learned D.suggested 33.A.abandon B.boast C.improve D.share 34.A.By contrast B.For instance C.In short D.On average 35.A.controversial B.established C.independent D.profitable Section B Directions: Read the following three passages. Each passage is followed by several questions or unfinished statements. For each of them there are four choices marked A, B, C and D. Choose the one that fits best according to the information given in the passage you have just read. (C) A friend living in St. Thomas recently marked herself “safe” on social media for the second time in two weeks. A.What Natural Disasters Can Teach Us B.We Are Running Out of Luck in Nature C.The Countdown to a Catastrophic Disaster D.Climate Change Harms All Beings Equally Section C Directions: Read the following passages. III. Section B Directions: Fill in each blank with a proper word chosen from the box. Each word can be used only once. Reading Comprehension (21 – 35题,每题1分;36 – 50题,每题2分;共45分) Section A Directions: For each blank in the following passage there are four words or phrases marked A, B, C and D. (C) A friend living in St. Thomas recently marked herself “safe” on social media for the second time in two weeks. A.What Natural Disasters Can Teach Us B.We Are Running Out of Luck in Nature C.The Countdown to a Catastrophic Disaster D.Climate Change Harms All Beings Equally Section C Directions: Read the following passages. III. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ IV.
