①Wool is a great natural material that has been used by humans. It comes from the soft coat of sheep. Humans have been wearing wool for over 12,000 years. Today, more than 1.3 billion sheep around the world are used each year for woolen products, like sweaters and scarves.
②Why do so many people like woolen products? One of the greatest things about wool is that it is a fantastic insulator. This means it keeps us warm when it’s cold outside. It also has tiny air pockets that trap (锁住) heat, making it perfect for those cold days.
③Another advantage of wool is that it is breathable. It allows air to pass through, keeping us cool in the summer as well. Unlike other materials, it can prevent us from overheating, and make us feel comfortable.
④Wool is not only warm and breathable, but it is also durable (耐用的) and long-lasting. It’s strong enough for outdoor activities like hiking or playing in the snow. Woolen clothes can be passed down from one generation (一代) to another, creating a beautiful connection between family members.
⑤Making wool products requires a lot of effort and a series of processes, which start with shearing (剪羊毛). The sheep farmers cut the wool off the sheep completely by hand in spring. Don’t worry: shearing is safe and painless for the sheep, just like getting a haircut! After the shearing, hundreds of kilos of wool are packed together. Once the wool is collected, it goes through a process called scouring. It means wool is washed to remove any dirt and oil. Then the wool is made into yarn (毛线), which is used to make different woolen products. After the yarn is coloured, skilled workers make it into various products.
⑥Wool is made into all kinds of woolen products after processing and is used widely in our daily life.
4. How does the writer show that wool is a great material in Paragraph ①?
A. By telling stories. B. By explaining ideas. C. By showing facts. D. By comparing reasons.
5. What is the advantage of wool according to the passage?
A. It can be used for a long time.
B. It can stop air from passing through.
C. It can produce and give out heat.
D. It can be made into products easily.
6. Which picture correctly shows “scouring”?
A. B. C. D.
7. Which is the structure of the passage?
A. B. C. D.

At many events around the world, fireworks shows are being replaced with large numbers of drones (无人机) that create wonderful scenes in the night sky.
Why are drone shows becoming popular? Some think it’s a passing fad. But supporters say that they will take the place of fireworks for sure, because fireworks are bad for people, animals and the environment and that it’s time for a change.
Bill Bateman, a professor of life sciences, notes the “terrible” influence of fireworks—It may scare birds from nests, trouble other animals with their sudden light and noise, and even influence animal breeding (繁殖).
“The sounds and flashes of light lead to the startle response (惊恐反应) in animals, causing their pain and even deaths. Young animals, for example, have been recorded jumping from their nest because of the loud noises, even if they cannot fly.” Bateman explains.
There are also plenty of other health reasons to avoid fireworks. The US recorded 9,700 injuries and eight deaths from fireworks in 2023 alone—most because of the wrong use. And also, around 18% of all fireworks on the market in 2023 didn’t meet safety standards, putting even experienced players at risk.
The reasons to cancel fireworks shows seem clear, but are drone shows the solution? These shows still create light pollution. Drones can also collide (相撞) with wildlife in the air. Some research shows that animals don’t like drones in their homes.
But we still don’t know much about how drones will influence the environment and animals. For now, drone shows seem to be better for the environment. But I think, since drones can be used again and again, they are a better choice than traditional fireworks.
8. The underlined phrase “a passing fad” in paragraph 2 means “________” in Chinese idiom.
A. 昙花一现 B. 风靡一时 C. 独一无二 D. 焕然一新
9. Paragraphs 3-5 mainly talk about ________.

A. Bateman finds fireworks shows good for the animals
B. around 18% of the deaths are caused by fireworks
C. drone shows are completely good for the environment
D. wild animals dislike having drones in their living places
11. What’s the writer’s attitude (态度) towards drone shows?

【9题详解】
第三段“It may scare birds...trouble other animals...and even influence animal breeding”,第四段“‘The sounds and flashes of light lead to the startle response (惊恐反应) in animals, causing their pain and even deaths.’”和第五段“There are also plenty of other health reasons to avoid fireworks...The US recorded 9,700 injuries and eight deaths from fireworks...around 18% of all fireworks on the market in 2023 didn’t meet safety standards”,第3-5段分别阐述了烟花对动物的伤害、对人类健康的危害,这些都是“停止烟花表演的原因”。
【10题详解】
倒数第二段最后一句“Some research shows that animals don’t like drones in their homes.”,野生动物不喜欢在它们的栖息地附近有无人机出现。
【11题详解】
最后一段“But I think, since drones can be used again and again, they are a better choice than traditional fireworks.”,无人机表演相比传统的燃放烟花是一个更好的选择,可以看出作者持“支持”的态度。

There are many colors in nature. But do you know if a color has weight? I think you’ll say “no”. But I am afraid you are wrong. If you don’t believe, you may do a small experiment.
First, put two objects with the same weight into two boxes. Second, cover the boxes. Third, wrap one box with a red piece of paper, the other with a white piece of paper. OK. Now hold the boxes with your hand one by one. It is certain that you will think the red one is a little heavier.
Why do you think so? A scientist found that different colors have different weight in a man’s mind. So he did many tests and at last he got the result. That is to say, every color has its own weight in our mind and their order is the same. The heaviest color is red, then blue, green, orange, yellow and white.
The scientist told us that colors also have smell, Can you smell the color? Of course not. Then why did the scientist say so? That is because every color stands for a kind of light with a certain wavelength. It reaches our brain through sense organs.
According to this discovery, scientists say that people accept the colors they like, and refuse the colors they hate. So your body and mind will be healthy by using the colors you like. Or you’ll be nervous or even get ill. For example, if you stay in a room with red windows, wallpapers and furniture for two hours, you’ll feel you have been there for four hours. But if the room is blue, you’ll feel you have been there for only an hour. Another example, if a person walks out of a red room and into a blue room. His temperature will fall. That means our body temperature will change with different colors.
12. The purpose of the second paragraph is to tell us ________.
A a red box is heavier than a white one
B. a color has weight in one’s mind
C. white paper is lighter than red paper
D. you can know the weight of a color by holding it
13. Why did the scientist say colors have smell?
A. Because people can sense the light from colors
B. Because we can smell colors with our nose.
C. Because every color has its own sweet smell.
D. Because every color can give off light of the same length.
14. If a person walks from a blue room to a red room, his body temperature will ________.
A. rise B. fall C. stay the same D. change now and then
15. It can be implied (暗示) from the text that ________.
A. colors have orders in weight
B. colors can change the weight of an object
C. people would stay longer in a room with red windows
D. colors can affect our mood and health
【答案】12. B 13. A 14. A 15. D
第四段说明原因:“That is because every color stands for a kind of light with a certain wavelength. It reaches our brain through sens organs.”,即因为每种颜色代表一种具有特定波长的光,它通过感觉器官到达我们的大脑,所以科学家说颜色有气味。
【14题详解】
最后一段提到“Another example, if a person walks out of a red room and into a blue room. his temperature will fall.”,那么反过来,如果一个人从蓝色房间走到红色房间,他的体温会上升。
【15题详解】
最后一段提到“So your body and mind will be healthy by using the colors you like. Or you’ll be nervous or even get ill.”以及后面关于不同颜色房间给人不同时间感受和影响体温的例子,可以暗示出“colors can affect our mood and health”,即颜色能影响我们的情绪和健康。

Artificial intelligence (AI) is used to run online search engines, help doctors find out what sickness people have, and do many other hard tasks. ____16____
Recently, a band called The Velvet Sundown was revealed (揭露) to have been created using AI. They have more than one million listeners on Spotify every month. But it wasn’t just the music that came from AI. The pictures of the band members and the stories about them were also made up by AI. ____17____ When they found out, some thought the songs should have been clearly marked as AI-made. So, does it matter if music is created by AI?
Yes, it should have a warning. Music is so much more than just a tune and lyrics. It’s connected to human experiences and emotions, and often carries powerful messages. Music that has been created by a computer just doesn’t have the same depth, so listeners should be told if music is made by AI. ____18____ Not giving the artists credit when their work has been used is really unfair. Also, AI changes very fast, so it’s important to clearly mark AI-made music.
No, it doesn’t matter how music is made. ____19____ It’s the end result that matters. If people can’t tell that music has been made using AI, then surely it’s just as good as the real thing. AI can also help musicians who don’t have expensive tools. Technology has been used in music for many years. This is simply the next step. If AI music has a warning, should remakes of old songs have warnings too?
A. At first, people didn’t know this.
B. AI can make life easier, but some people also worry about it.
C. As long as people like the way music sounds, does it matter how it was made?
D. Creating music with AI makes music more important to people.
E. Some artists say their music is used to train AI without asking them first.
16. ________

A. B. C. D.
C
8 The underlined phrase “a passing fad” in paragraph 2 means “________” in Chinese idiom.
A. 昙花一现 B. 风靡一时 C. 独一无二 D. 焕然一新
9 Paragraphs 3-5 mainly talk about ________.
A. the research results of the US scientists B. the difficulties in making safe fireworks
C. the reasons for stopping fireworks shows D. the problems caused by the air pollution
10. According to the passage, we can learn that ________.
A. Bateman finds fireworks shows good for the animals
B around 18% of the deaths are caused by fireworks
C. drone shows are completely good for the environment
D. wild animals dislike having drones in their living places
11. What’s the writer’s attitude (态度) towards drone shows?
A. Supportive. B. Doubtful. C. Worried. D. Fearful.
D
A. a red box is heavier than a white one
B. a color has weight in one’s mind
C white paper is lighter than red paper
D. you can know the weight of a color by holding it

16. ________
17. ________
18. ________
19. ________
20. Does the writer think music has to do with human feelings and stories? What kind of music touches your heart the most? (Answer within 15 words)
