Ⅰ.阅读理解 A (2025·杭州期末)When most kids go to the beach, they’re too focused on making sandcastles and splashing around to notice litter, but several years ago, for 7-year-old Cash Daniels, noticing a plastic straw sparked a lifelong passion for saving the planet. Cash, who is now known as the “conservation kid”, has always loved nature. He grew up fishing along the Chattanooga River, after all! But once he learned that 80 percent of all trash from land and rivers ends up in the ocean, he couldn’t sit back. He started with cleanups along the river, something that quickly went from a family affair to a community effort with volunteers and neighbors. In 2019, Cash, together with a Canadian conservationist, Ella Galaski-Rossen, started a nonprofit called the Cleanup Kids. Despite living in different counties, they managed to create educational videos on their YouTube channel. “We hope to be a really big nonprofit that eliminates plastic in the US and Canada,” Cash said. “We want to inform kids and adults in the landlocked states on how their actions are connected to the water and the ocean,” Cash said. Cash was selected as one of America’s top 10 youth volunteers of 2021 by the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards. He also earned the title of National Honoree, where he received a $5,000 grant to go to a nonprofit of his choice, and he became the first person to win the Youth Conservationist Award two years in a row from the Tennessee Wildlife Federation. “I want to travel the world, teach others, and help them feel connected to the ocean. Because if you are connected to the ocean — if you love it and what lives in it — you’ll want to protect it,” he said. “This is my fun, and it becomes more fun with every new discovery.” 1.Which can replace the underlined words “sit back” in paragraph 2?( ) A.Give up. B.Take part. C.Lend a hand. D.Pay no attention. 2.Why did Cash start the Cleanup Kids?( ) A.To make instructive videos. B.To build a wider community. C.To appeal for ocean protection. D.To organize volunteers for cleanups. 3.Which of the following best describes Cash Daniels?( ) A.Brave and talented. B.Generous and modest. C.Creative and humorous. D.Sympathetic and devoted. 4.What does Cash Daniels’ story imply?( ) A.No pains, no gains. B.Passion fuels dreams. C.Helping others is great fun. D.Many hands make light work. B (2025·沈阳期末)There was once a sea turtle and a seal at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo in Washington, DC. But unlike the zoo’s other residents, they were made entirely out of plastic trash collected from the ocean. These giant sculptures, along with 14 others, were part of a traveling exhibition called “Washed Ashore: Art to Save the Sea”. The Washed Ashore project, led by artist Angela Haseltine Pozzi, was aimed at making people know how seriously the oceans had been polluted. According to the National Zoo, more than 315 billion pounds of plastics litter the world’s oceans today. Most of these plastics are garbage from towns and cities, as well as trash that people leave on beaches. Rainwater, winds, and high tides bring the trash into the ocean or into rivers that lead to the ocean. Once they are under the waves, the plastics begin to break up into smaller and smaller pieces. Thousands of marine animals — including whales, sea turtles, and fish — die each year from eating or getting tangled (缠结的) in plastic bags and other items. Plastic pieces can also injure coral and kill seagrass. Each year, millions of pounds of plastics end up in the ocean. A recent study by the World Economic Forum and Ellen MacArthur Foundation finds that if that continues, by 2050 the total weight of plastics in the ocean will have been more than the combined weight of all the fish in the ocean. The artworks on display included a 20-foot-long coral reef, a 12-foot-long shark, and a 16-foot-long parrotfish. Each one was made of hundreds of pieces of trash like water bottles and sunglasses. “These sculptures are a powerful reminder of our personal role and global responsibility for preserving biodiversity on land and in the sea,” said Dennis Kelly, a director of the National Zoo. 5.What’s special about the turtle and the seal displayed at the zoo?( ) A.They have been put on the endangered list. B.They’re native residents of the deep sea. C.They can help deal with the plastics in the ocean. D.They’re artworks made of the plastics from the ocean. 6.What was the purpose of the Washed Ashore project?( ) A.To show the beauty of ocean creatures. B.To raise awareness about the ocean pollution. C.To attract visitors to the Smithsonian’s National Zoo. D.To appeal to volunteers to help clean the trash in the ocean. 7.What can we infer about the plastics in the ocean from paragraphs 2 and 3?( ) A.They will threaten marine life more seriously in the near future. B.They are mainly from undersea adventures. C.They do little harm to coral and seagrass. D.They are impossible to clear away. 8.What did Dennis Kelly want to convey through the words in the last paragraph?( ) A.Each individual should take action to protect the environment. B.People’s efforts to protect biodiversity have paid off. C.Sculptures of marine animals are popular in the world. D.People’s awareness of recycling waste is increasing. C (2025·陕西渭南期中)A bicycle may be seen by most people as just another vehicle, but for many Londoners, cycling is a way of life. According to a UK government survey in 2017, about 570,000 bike journeys were made every day in London. In fact, almost half of the vehicles that pass over London Bridge each day are bikes. London introduced a public bike-sharing system. “There can be no doubt that our trusty bicycles have changed the way people get around our great city,” Johnson told The Guardian. In London, bikes are used for more than just taking short trips to and from the subway. No matter where you want to go in the city, riding a bike is usually the quickest and easiest choice. And it’s not just shared bikes that the government is encouraging people to ride. In many companies across the UK, the UK government’s Cycle to Work program allows workers to buy a brand new bike without having to pay any tax. This means that it’s common to see many people cycling to and from work, and some companies even provide showers and lockers in the workplaces for their workers. More importantly, a cycle-friendly boss may let you off for being late if you ride a bike to work. Not only is it great for the environment and our body, but cycling is also good for the mind. According to National Geographic Magazine, “Bike riding can improve people’s happiness.” 9.How does the author show the popularity of cycling in London?( ) A.By using numbers. B.By giving examples. C.By making comparisons. D.By using famous sayings. 10.What’s Johnson’s attitude towards the bike-sharing system in London?( ) A.Disappointed. B.Worried. C.Supportive. D.Doubtful. 11.What can workers get from the Cycle to Work program?( ) A.Tax-free bikes. B.Shorter working hours. C.Free bike-sharing services. D.Showers and lockers in workplaces. 12.Which of the following can be the best title of the passage?( ) A.Cycling, a Healthy Way of Iife B.London’s Public Bike-sharing System C.How Cycling has Become Popular in London D.Why Londoners are Encouraged to Ride Bikes Ⅱ.阅读七选五 (2025·武汉二中检测)As the world struggles to deal with the climate crisis, some companies are working to remove polluting carbon dioxide (CO2) from the air. 13.( ), but two US companies have recently made important progress. Scientists say large amounts of CO2 must be removed from the atmosphere and stored. 14.( ). But there’s so much CO2 in the atmosphere that just planting trees and protecting forests won’t solve the problem. In addition, when plants and trees die, the carbon they’ve stored gets released again. That means humans need to come up with ways of removing carbon from the air and storing it. This is called Direct Air Capture (DAC). The science of removing carbon from the air is challenging, and it’s still pretty new. Most DAC processes require a large amount of energy, 15.( ). A company called Heirloom has just opened the first DAC plant in the United States. The company heats up the limestone (石灰岩) to separate out the CO2, which is then locked away in concrete (混凝土). The process is extremely expensive. 16.( ). That’s a tiny amount compared to how much carbon needs to be removed from the atmosphere, but the company says it hopes to remove a billion tons per year by 2035. 17.( ). Some people worry that it will take too long for DAC technology to become powerful enough to make a difference. Others worry that focusing on removing carbon could take attention away from more important climate actions, like switching from fossil fuels to renewable energy. But experts say the decision isn’t to do one or the other. The world needs to end fossil fuel use and pull carbon out of the air. A.It’s a huge and challenging goal B.Plants and trees can do this naturally C.Everyone is not excited about carbon removal D.The new plant can remove 1,000 tons of CO2 year E.Graphyte is another US company working on DAC F.and CO2 is just a small part of the gasses that make up air G.so one puzzle for these companies is how to remove carbon without creating more pollution 6 / 6 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ Section Ⅳ LESSON 2 GREENING THE DESERT 基础知识自测 维度一 1.rate 2.overcome 3.slim 4.quote 5.occur 6.region 7.profit 8.ordinary 9.union 10.poster 维度二 1.survival 2.Currently 3.content 4.determination 5.founder 6.former 7.proposal 8.organiser 9.agricultural 维度三 1.am content to admire 2.It occurs to me that 3.Although he was experienced 4.work through 5.make her dream come true 6.With lots of work to be done 7.where they can gain experience for growth A项中的It指上文的remove polluting carbon dioxide (CO2) from the air。
