在英语听力考试中,记录可以分为两种形式:一种是心记;
W:Excuse me, sir, visiting hours are over now.Your wife
must get some rest.
M:Oh, I’m sorry, doctor.I didn’t hear the bell, or I would have
left earlier.
名、国家名、组织机构名称等),如:UN 代表 the United Nations;
GB 代表 Great Britain;M 代表 mountain;tele 代表telephone等。
如:In
Britain anyone who is physically and mentally fit and over the age of
seventeen can apply for a driving license. Br.any physi
less than,用“=”表示 be equal to,用“>”表示 more than,用

sons are still so young. One is 13 and the other is 10.

A
When most kids go to the beach, they’re too
focused on making sandcastles and splashing around to notice litter, but
several years ago, for 7-year-old Cash Daniels, noticing a plastic straw
sparked a lifelong passion for saving the planet.
Cash, who is now known as the “conservation kid”, has always
loved nature. He grew up fishing along the Chattanooga River, after
all! But once he learned that 80 percent of all trash from land and rivers
ends up in the ocean, he couldn’t sit back.
He started with cleanups along the river, something that quickly
went from a family affair to a community effort with volunteers and
neighbors. In 2019, Cash, together with a Canadian conservationist,
Ella Galaski-Rossen, started a nonprofit called the Cleanup Kids.
Despite living in different counties, they managed to create educational
videos on their YouTube channel. “We hope to be a really big nonprofit
that eliminates plastic in the US and Canada,” Cash said. “We want to
inform kids and adults in the landlocked states on how their actions are
connected to the water and the ocean,” Cash said.

Cash was selected as one of America’s top 10 youth volunteers of
2021 by the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards. He also earned the
title of National Honoree, where he received a $5,000 grant to go to a
nonprofit of his choice, and he became the first person to win the Youth
Conservationist Award two years in a row from the Tennessee Wildlife
Federation.

There was once a sea turtle and a seal at the
Smithsonian’s National Zoo in Washington, DC. But unlike the zoo’s
other residents, they were made entirely out of plastic trash collected
from the ocean. These giant sculptures, along with 14 others, were part
of a traveling exhibition called “Washed Ashore: Art to Save the Sea”.
The Washed Ashore project, led by artist Angela Haseltine Pozzi,
was aimed at making people know how seriously the oceans had been
polluted. According to the National Zoo, more than 315 billion pounds
of plastics litter the world’s oceans today. Most of these plastics are
garbage from towns and cities, as well as trash that people leave on
beaches. Rainwater, winds, and high tides bring the trash into the
ocean or into rivers that lead to the ocean. Once they are under the
waves, the plastics begin to break up into smaller and smaller pieces.

Thousands of marine animals — including whales, sea turtles, and
fish — die each year from eating or getting tangled (缠结的) in plastic
bags and other items. Plastic pieces can also injure coral and kill seagrass.
Each year, millions of pounds of plastics end up in the ocean. A recent
study by the World Economic Forum and Ellen MacArthur Foundation
finds that if that continues, by 2050 the total weight of plastics in the
ocean will have been more than the combined weight of all the fish in the
ocean.

The artworks on display included a 20-foot-long coral reef, a 12-
foot-long shark, and a 16-foot-long parrotfish. Each one was made of
hundreds of pieces of trash like water bottles and sunglasses. “These
sculptures are a powerful reminder of our personal role and global
responsibility for preserving biodiversity on land and in the sea,”said
Dennis Kelly, a director of the National Zoo.

A bicycle may be seen by most people as
just another vehicle, but for many Londoners, cycling is a way of life.
According to a UK government survey in 2017, about 570,000 bike
journeys were made every day in London. In fact, almost half of the
vehicles that pass over London Bridge each day are bikes.
London introduced a public bike-sharing system. “There can be no
doubt that our trusty bicycles have changed the way people get around our
great city,” Johnson told The Guardian.
In London, bikes are used for more than just taking short trips to and
from the subway. No matter where you want to go in the city, riding a
bike is usually the quickest and easiest choice.

And it’s not just shared bikes that the government is encouraging
people to ride. In many companies across the UK, the UK
government’s Cycle to Work program allows workers to buy a brand new
bike without having to pay any tax. This means that it’s common to see
many people cycling to and from work, and some companies even
provide showers and lockers in the workplaces for their workers. More
importantly, a cycle-friendly boss may let you off for being late if you
ride a bike to work.

also good for the mind. According to National Geographic Magazine,
“Bike riding can improve people’s happiness.”

As the world struggles to deal with the
climate crisis, some companies are working to remove polluting carbon
dioxide (CO2) from the air. 13.( ), but two US companies
have recently made important progress.
Scientists say large amounts of CO2 must be removed from the
atmosphere and stored. 14.( ). But there’s so much CO2 in the
atmosphere that just planting trees and protecting forests won’t solve the
problem. In addition, when plants and trees die, the carbon they’ve
stored gets released again.
That means humans need to come up with ways of removing carbon
from the air and storing it. This is called Direct Air Capture (DAC).
The science of removing carbon from the air is challenging, and it’s
still pretty new. Most DAC processes require a large amount of energy,
15.( ).
A company called Heirloom has just opened the first DAC plant in the
United States. The company heats up the limestone (石灰岩) to
separate out the CO2, which is then locked away in concrete (混凝
土). The process is extremely expensive. 16.( ). That’s a tiny
amount compared to how much carbon needs to be removed from the
atmosphere, but the company says it hopes to remove a billion tons per
year by 2035.
17. ( ). Some people worry that it will take too long for DAC
technology to become powerful enough to make a difference. Others
worry that focusing on removing carbon could take attention away from
more important climate actions, like switching from fossil fuels to
renewable energy. But experts say the decision isn’t to do one or the
other. The world needs to end fossil fuel use and pull carbon out of the
air.
A. It’s a huge and challenging goal
B. Plants and trees can do this naturally
C. Everyone is not excited about carbon removal
D. The new plant can remove 1,000 tons of CO2 year
E. Graphyte is another US company working on DAC
F. and CO2 is just a small part of the gasses that make up air
G. so one puzzle for these companies is how to remove carbon without
creating more pollution
