Our planet is home to many unique animals with amazing abilities. Let’s meet some of them.
The cheetah is the fastest land animal. It can run as fast as a car on the highway—up to 120km per hour! Its body is built for speed—long legs and a slim shape help it rush after prey quickly. Unlike cheetahs, sloths move very slowly, even slower than a snail. They live in rainforests and spend most of their time hanging upside down in trees. They only come down to the ground once a week!
The Arctic fox has a clever way to hide. In winter, its fur turns white to blend in with the snow. In summer, it changes to brown or gray to match the rocks and plants. Another amazing animal is the axolotl (蝾螈) from Mexico. People call it the “Mexican walking fish,” but it’s an amphibian. If it loses a leg, it can grow a new one in just a few weeks!
The blue whale is the largest animal on Earth. Its heart is as big as a car, and it is heavier than any dinosaur that ever lived. Despite (尽管) its size, it is a gentle giant of the sea, feeding only on tiny sea creatures called krill.
3. What does the underlined word “prey” mean in Paragraph 2?
A. Fast speed on land. B. Animals that are hunted for food. C. Safe places for hiding.
4. How long does it take for an axolotl to grow a new leg?
A. A few weeks. B. A few days. C. A few months.
5. Which animal’s ability is NOT mentioned in the passage?
A. Changing body color.
B. Growing back lost body parts.
C. Flying long distances.
6. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. Some unique animals with amazing abilities.
B. How animals protect themselves from danger.
C. Where different animals live on Earth.

Is there anybody who likes doing housework? Should children help out around the house? For some children doing housework may be the last thing they want to do. For many parents, getting their children to help with housework is also one big headache (头疼). However, Nurafiza, a Malaysian mother found a creative way.
Nurafiza came up with a reward (奖励) system for her two sons at home. She made a list of housework for her kids and gave them money for every task they had finished. The list of housework included cleaning up the house and putting away their toys for RM 50 each, doing the dishes for RM 80, and even not fighting with each other for RM 10 to RM 15. Nurafiza also opened a “mini mart (迷你超市)” at home for kids to spend the money in. Her three-year-old and six-year-old sons could buy snacks at her “mini mart” which was open from 10 a. m. to 8 p. m. The money she gave to her kids was fake (假的) cash, which she had bought online.
Because of this system, both of her children are glad to help with housework. Her Facebook post has got over 15,000 likes and has been shared over 27,000 times. Many parents have begun to imitate her. They use the same way to discipline (管教) their children.
In fact, doing housework plays an important role in children’s development. First, housework teaches children basic (基本的) skills for living, like cooking and cleaning. Second, doing housework is a good way to exercise children’s bodies. Third, doing housework makes it possible for parents to spend more time with their kids.
7. What is the main problem mentioned at the beginning of the text?
A. Many children enjoy doing housework.
B. Parents find it hard to get their children to help with housework.
C. Children often argue about who should do the housework.
8. What did Nurafiza come up with to encourage her sons to do housework?
A. A list of fun games.
B. A reward system with fake money.
C. A new kind of mini mart.
9. According to Nurafiza’s system, how much could her children get for not fighting with each other?
A. RM 50. B. RM 80. C. RM 10 to RM 15.
10. What does the last paragraph mainly tell us?
A. Why doing housework is important for children’s development.
B. Why parents should give children money for housework.
C. How different families give rewards for housework.

【5题详解】
文中提到的动物能力包括:猎豹奔跑速度快、树懒移动慢、北极狐能改变毛色、蝾螈能再生肢体、蓝鲸体型巨大,未提到“远距离飞行”。
【6题详解】
首段总起句“Our planet is home to many unique animals with amazing abilities” 明确了主旨,后文分别介绍猎豹、树懒、北极狐等动物,所以“一些具有惊人能力的独特动物”最能概括文章主旨。

Traditionally, the members of a family get together to make dumplings on New Year’s Eve. They may hide a coin in one of the dumplings. The person who finds the coin will be likely to have good luck. As the Spring Festival marks the start of a new year, people choose to eat jiaozi in the hope of having a good future in the coming new year.
Based on (基于) your taste, you can make different kinds of Chinese dumplings using different fillings. There is no set rule as to what makes dumpling fillings. They can be anything from vegetables, meat or seafood. Whatever the fillings are, the wrapping (包) skill needs to be exquisite (精美的) to make jiaozi good-looking.
As China is a country with a vast territory (幅员辽阔), there are differences in different areas in ways of making jiaozi or even serving it. For example, dumpling wrappers are made with a rolling pin (擀面杖) in Beijing and Hebei province, while in some parts of Inner Mongolia, wrappers are hand-pressed.
