Step 1. Lead-in
Activity 1: Complete 1a: Ask students to tick how their hobbies help their lives (e.g., to relax, to make new friends). Invite 2 students to share their choices and add 1 more benefit.
Step 2. Pre-reading
Activity 1: Introduce the text topic: Show the title Hobbies That Are Good for You and ask: “What hobbies do you think the text will talk about? What benefits may they have?” Let students predict.
Activity 2: Present new vocabulary (from the text). Explain meanings with examples, and ask students to repeat.
Activity 3: Explain “facts vs. Opinions”: Display the definition. Give examples.
Step 3. While-reading
Activity 1: Skim for main ideas (1b): Ask students to read the text quickly, then underline Luca’s and Maya’s opinions. Check answers.
Activity 2: Scan for details (1c): Let students read the text again and complete the mind map. Walk around to guide students to find key details.
Activity 3: Group work (4 students per group): Ask groups to summarize Luca’s and Maya’s hobbies (using the mind map) and discuss “How do their hobbies improve their lives?” Invite 1 group to share.
Activity 4: Complete 1d: Guide students to fill in the sentences with different purposes. Then ask students to write 1 sentence about themselves.
Step 4. Post-reading
Activity 1: Complete 1e: Organize pair work. Ask students to discuss “What new hobby would you like to take up? Why?” using the text’s expressions. Invite 2 pairs to share.
Step 5. Summary
Summarize key content: Text Main Idea: Two students’ hobbies and their benefits.

Step 6. Homework
Basic Level: Read the text aloud 5 times, and copy the key vocabulary 3 times.
Improving Level: Write a short paragraph (6 sentences) about your favorite hobby: what it is, when you started it, and how it helps your life.
Connect to students’ real lives, activate the topic of “hobbies’ benefits”, and lead into the reading text.
