It is 10 p.m. You are in bed, looking at your phone. You say, “Just one more video,” but then it is very late, and you still cannot sleep. Your eyes feel tired, but your brain is awake. Why is it hard to sleep after using your screen? One big reason is the blue light.
Blue light is a kind of light we see every day. The sun gives blue light helping us feel awake. Some electronic devices, like phones, TVs, and computers also make blue light. When we use them at night, the blue light tells our brain it is still daytime. This stops our body from making melatonin, a matter in brain that helps us feel sleepy.
Scientists studied about this. They asked 13 people to use smartphones for hours. After two hours, their melatonin levels went down by about 22 percent. This made it harder to fall asleep. Studies also showed that children and teenagers are more sensitive to blue light. Their eyes let in more light, so blue light stops their melatonin more easily. Therefore, young children’s melatonin levels can be lower than adults’ after blue light exposure (暴露).
So, how can you sleep better? Here are a few tips: Turn down your screen brightness at night. Stop using devices at least 30 minutes before bed. Instead, read a book, listen to soothing music, or relax in a dark room to make yourself peaceful. These habits can help you sleep better and wake up feeling better. Remember, giving your eyes a break from screens before bed is good for your sleep!
26. How does the writer start the passage?
A. By giving suggestions for better sleep. B. By explaining the effect of losing sleep.
C. By picturing a sleep problem with screens. D. By comparing different kinds of blue lights.
27. What is blue light?
A. A kind of light that helps us fall asleep faster. B. A kind of light that produces more melatonin.
C. A kind of light that we can only see in daytime. D. A kind of light that tells our brain it is daytime.
28. Which is most probably the change of melatonin levels after using smartphones at night?
A. B. C. D.
29. What does the underlined word “soothing” mean in Paragraph 4?
A. Calm. B. Noisy. C. Creative D. Unusual
30. What is the best title for this passage?
A. The Discovery of Blue Light B. Good Habits Before Bed C. Blue Light and Your Sleep D. Blue Light from the Screen
【答案】26. C 27. D 28. B 29. A 30. C

【28题详解】

阅读填空。根据短文内容,完成图表中所缺信息 (每题不超过三个单词)。
Whether you’re on the road or in the wild, knowing where you are and how to return safely is important. In the past, people used a map to travel. But now, with modern technology, you can use a GPS unit to find your way. So how does GPS compare with paper maps for real travel? Let’s find out!
Clearly, people prefer GPS because it can quickly suggest different routes (路线) for you to choose. And it is convenient-with a GPS unit in your car or pocket, you can find your way easily. What’s more, a GPS is like carrying all the maps in the world! It shows you the famous places and the best ways to get there.
However, GPS isn’t perfect. Sometimes it may go offline if a satellite (卫星) fails and even send you wrong routes, wasting your time. Sometimes it might run out of electricity.
Although GPS is useful, some travelers still like paper maps. Unlike GPS, they don’t need any power. Therefore, old-fashioned maps seem better for areas without signals. Maps are also easy to mark-you can draw routes or mark places. You can lend a map to others without worrying about losing an expensive GPS.
Even so, paper maps have problems, too. They can become outdated and broken easily. Also, it will take you a lot of time to plan the route yourself.
In a word, both GPS and paper maps have advantages and disadvantages. You can decide which works better for you. No matter what you choose, remember to travel safely and enjoy your journey!

I was so excited that I didn't think twice and started filling in the information on the website. I even typed half of my password. . .
Luckily, my sister happened to see the screen and shouted at once, “Brother, stop! This is a scam (骗局)! Official companies would never ask for bank card details!" Her words woke me up. I took a closer look at the address and noticed small difference—official-game. com instead of official-game. com. I closed the page right away and, as my sister suggested, reported it in the game.
Now I feel really afraid and worried. Without my sister, I might have given away my family’s private information.
So I am writing to ask for help here: What should I do next?

Thank you for sharing your problem with us. First of all, don’t be too upset. It’s not your fault that you almost got cheated. Many people have similar experiences. You’d better change your passwords immediately. Secondly, be cautious when sharing personal information online. Whether it’s on social-media platforms or other websites, think twice before you share details like your address, phone number or ID number.
The sun gives blue light, helping us feel awake.
A. B. C. D.
29 What does the underlined word “soothing” mean in Paragraph 4?
A Calm. B. Noisy. C. Creative D. Unusual
30. What is the best title for this passage?
A The Discovery of Blue Light B. Good Habits Before Bed C. Blue Light and Your Sleep D. Blue Light from the Screen
