I was seven years old and lived with my grandparents in California. I sat on the doctor’s exam table one week before school was to start. I feared the moment to get updated vaccinations (接种疫苗) so much that my mind went blank. The only thing I knew that would make the pain of a shot worthwhile was the balloon I had been promised.
I took that shot like a champion, without so much as a quiet “Ouch”. While I waited for the doctor to come back with my balloon, I thought about all the cool things I was going to do with that balloon. The doctor returned with a concerned look on his face and delivered the unfortunate news. “I’m sorry, Andrew, but we’re out of balloons.”
All my big plans for that balloon popped faster than that balloon ever would have. I was devastated. The entire way home, my grandma kept telling me that I should think positively, and everything would be okay.
Arriving at home, I was straight going through the house to the backyard door, ready to go outside and tell my dog all my troubles, when I looked out and saw the most amazing thing my seven-year-old eyes had ever seen. Our entire backyard was filled with floaty balloons!
We lived less than a mile from an amusement park. As it turned out, when the wind was just right, the balloons released from the daily parades would land neatly in our backyard.
I will never forget that day of whirling through those balloons and thinking they were all for me because I had to get my shots. And I will never forget my grandmother telling me throughout my life that if you just think positive thoughts, everything has a way of working out in the end.
24.How did Andrew feel after vaccination?
A.Proud. B.Fearful. C.Surprised. D.Curious.
25.What does the underlined word “devastated” in paragraph 3 mean?
A.Cheated and angry. B.Forgiven and relieved.

26.What can be inferred about Andrew’s grandmother from the text?
A.She was strict and demanding. B.She was optimistic and supportive.
C.She was disappointed with the doctor. D.She was indifferent to Andrew’s feelings.
27.What does Andrew learn from the whole experience?
A.Grandmothers always know best. B.Vaccinations are necessary but painful.
C.Parades of amusement parks are magical. D.Positive thinking can lead to unexpected joys.

Plastic has always been a double-edged sword — multi-purpose and cheap, but chemically stable. Traditional recycling methods involve multiple stages of sorting, cleaning, and melting (融化), which are energy-intensive and degrade the material’s quality. Turning plastic into fuel has been explored before, but existing techniques require high heat, complex catalysts (催化剂), and often produce impure results.
Now, a groundbreaking cooperation between scientists in the US and China has brought the world one step closer to a real solution. Using a specially designed catalytic reaction, researchers found a way to break down long plastic polymer (聚合物) chains into short hydrocarbon molecules — the building blocks of fuel — in a single step.
The team’s secret lies in a novel catalytic material that operates at medium temperatures — far lower than those used in conventional methods. Unlike traditional recycling, which melts plastic into lower-grade products, this catalyst essentially reduces plastics into usable hydrocarbon chains in just a few hours. The output can then be further processed into fuels for vehicles or even planes. According to Professor Zhang Wei, a chemical engineer from the Chinese partner university, the process transforms 95% of the plastic into usable hydrocarbons, leaving minimal remains and almost no harmful byproducts.
The implications of this breakthrough extend far beyond scientific curiosity. If widely used, the one-step plastic-to-fuel method could dramatically reduce both plastic waste and non-renewable fuel dependence.
Promising as the results are, experts stress that the cost of catalysts, the difficulty of collecting mixed plastic waste, and the issue of carbon emissions from burning fuels are key challenges to be addressed. For this reason, scientists see the innovation not as an end point, but as a temporary fix toward a cleaner future.
While questions remain, this innovation marks a hopeful turn in humanity’s long battle with plastic waste. It transforms what was once pollution into power and demonstrates that the solutions to big problems often lie in rethinking waste not as garbage-but as potential.
28.What is a key advantage of the new method of recycling plastics?
A.Low costs. B.Simple processes. C.High security. D.Adjustable reaction.
29.What does the novel catalyst help with?
A.Speeding up waste collection. B.Adjusting the operating temperature.
C.Minimizing harmful byproducts. D.Turning plastics into basic chemicals.
30.How do scientists regard the method?
A.A dead end. B.A starting point. C.A stepping stone. D.A definite answer.
31.What inspiration does the innovation bring to us?
A.New views create possibilities. B.Human effort overcomes challenges.
C.Close teamwork works wonders. D.Tough problems lead to innovations.
D
In our era of constant digital distraction, a wave of “focus apps” promises to help us reclaim our productivity by blocking interruptions and using gamification (游戏化) to encourage deep work. But do these apps truly help, or are they just another form of digital noise?
The main challenge to focus is self-regulation. When a task feels boring or stressful, we naturally seek relief, often turning to our smartphones. While there’s little evidence that our inborn ability to focus has declined, habits like multitasking and frequent digital interruptions can make us more easily distracted. To fight this, apps like the popular “Focus Friend” have emerged.
These apps employ psychological principles to guide behavior. “Focus Friend,” for example, uses a virtual character that knits (编织) peacefully as you work. If you open a banned app, the knitting comes undone. If you complete a focus session, this system uses immediate rewards, like digital items for your character, to make up for your devotion to the potentially unpleasant work. It also uses the “commitment and consistency” principle — starting a timer feels like a promise to yourself, which you’re then motivated to keep.
However, scientific research on their effectiveness is limited. One study found that while users enjoyed gamified apps, they didn’t often use them and found simpler strategies (like setting a phone to greyscale (灰度模式)) more effective for reducing usage. High app store ratings for “Focus Friend” suggest user enjoyment, but enjoyment doesn’t necessarily translate to improved focus or output quality.
If you decide to try a focus app, use it wisely. Schedule specific sessions for well-defined tasks, and notice the urge to check your phone without acting on it. After a week, critically assess if the app helped you make real progress. Be mindful of possible problems: these apps can’t judge your work’s value, so you might stay “focused” on unimportant tasks. Ultimately, while an app can help handle the pull of your phone, lasting focus requires internal discipline — learning to notice sudden distracting wants and consciously choosing to return to what matters.
32.What can be inferred from the second paragraph?
A.Smartphones are the main source of distraction.
B.Our natural focus ability has greatly weakened.
C.Self-discipline lies at the heart of focus problems.
D.Multitasking is an effective way to get work done.
33.How does “Focus Friend” try to guide users’ behavior?
A.By completely blocking access to a banned app.
B.By using psychological tricks and instant rewards.
C.By offering professional consulting sessions.
D.By simplifying phone functions to grayscale mode.
34.What’s the author’s attitude towards the current research on focus apps?
A.Strongly supportive. B.Cautiously doubtful.
C.Clearly disapproving. D.Fully convinced.
35.What would be the best title for the text?
A.Focus Apps: Productivity Tools or Digital Noise?
B.Focus Apps: Effective Solutions or Passing Trends?
C.The Psychological Principles Behind Focus Apps
D.The Limitations of Gamified Focus Apps

Growing up in a small village in the care of my grandmother affected my childhood with a mix of love and simple pleasures. Every day after school, I’d hurry to Grandmother’s welcoming home, greeted by the smell of freshly baked cookies and the warmth of the fireplace. We would spend hours together gardening, baking, and especially knitting (编织). Each birthday, Grandmother would gift me a hand-knitted sweater with bright colours and complex patterns, which I held dear.
Later, I moved to the city for my studies, leaving the countryside and Grandmother behind. Getting used to the exciting city life and burdened by an increasingly demanding academic schedule, I found myself unwilling to call Grandmother. Although the handmade sweater kept arriving each year, my appreciation for it decreased. The bright, old-fashioned patterns looked out of place among the modern and fashionable clothes of my classmates.
Before my 18th birthday, a package from Grandmother arrived on time again. Inside was Grandmother’s latest creation. The sweater was as colourful as ever, with eye-catching designs, but it might cause embarrassment if I wore it in school. In a moment of disappointment, I threw the sweater aside. “Why couldn’t Grandmother just be like my friends’ relatives who gifted fashionable clothes or smart devices? Why does she stick to such an old-fashioned tradition?” I complained to my mother.
My mother was sad when she heard my words. “Your grandmother is getting older, and her eyesight is not so good as it used to be,” she replied. “Despite this, she insists on keeping the birthday tradition alive.” She continued, her voice trembling (颤抖), “She rejected my advice, spending months knitting that sweater. Every stitch (一针) is filled with her love for you. She could easily buy something from the store, but she chooses to make the sweater because it means something more.” A sense of shame suddenly washed over me.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
The realization that I had taken my grandmother’s love for granted struck me deeply.

【原文】W: Martin, how do you like playing a superhero?
M: Overall? It makes me proud, but it really bothered me to stay fit, and keeping the superhero face on is quite tiring too. Yet those challenges don’t even come close to the difficulty of chasing and fighting. You have to make concerted efforts to act as if it’s effortless.
W: I heard you grew up in Canada. How was that?
M: I have many family members there. I went to an international school. But the best thing was the fantastic countryside near my home. I spent most weekends camping in the forest, which was really great.
W: So how did you get into acting?
M: Well, at university, I studied literature, but never acted in any drama. After graduating, I worked as an assistant for a producer, working on a musical comedy. One night, an actor was ill and I was asked to play his part and it just went from there.
W: What would you have done if you hadn’t become an actor?
M: Well, both my parents devote themselves to educational careers, even so it hardly interested me. My older brother owns a company, and he said that I could have a job in his office. I guess that’s what I’d probably have done.

World Sleep Day was organized since 2008. It is held on March 21 every year. It aims to highlight the importance of good sleep and raise awareness of how sleep determines our everyday lives. Now, a world first study from the University of South Australia shows that increased physical activities during the day improve sleep quality and reduce tiredness, emphasizing the importance of exercise for a good night’s rest. The study found that children and adults with higher levels of moderate to vigorous physical activity have less troubled sleep and better sleep quality. In general, adults are thought to need at least eight hours of sleep a night, but a recent survey found that on work days, only 21% of them really get a full eight hours of sleep. For teenagers, a healthy amount is about eight to nine hours per night. However, 27% of people throughout the world have sleep problems. Now there are over 80 kinds of sleep disorders, and most people know little about their danger. So for our good life and work, it’s necessary for us to realize the importance of sleep and try to have a good sleep.

【答案】范文:
Dear Pete,
Knowing from your last letter that you are stuck in choosing the club, I’m writing to recommend the Dragon Boat Club to you.
Compared with the Hanfu Club, which mainly focuses on traditional costume appreciation, the Dragon Boat Club places greater emphasis on teamwork and physical endurance. What makes the Dragon Boat Club particularly appealing is its unique combination of physical challenge and cultural heritage, allowing participants to gain both enjoyment and meaningful experience. Moreover, participation in the Dragon Boat Club offers a valuable opportunity to gain deeper insight into the spirit of perseverance deeply rooted in Chinese culture. Given your interest in Chinese culture, I believe the Dragon Boat Club would suit you perfectly. I am confident that this choice will be both rewarding and memorable.
I hope my suggestion proves helpful. Please feel free to let me know if you would like more information.
Yours
Li Hua

67.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】
The realization that I had taken my grandmother’s love for granted struck me deeply. I picked up the sweater, running my fingers over the distinctive patterns that she had painstakingly created for me. Fueled by a surge of gratitude, I dialed my grandmother’s number, my heart pounding. Hearing her voice on the phone, I immediately expressed my heartfelt thanks and promised I would wear the sweater on my birthday. Knowing I was delighted with her present, my grandmother sounded so pleased and we chatted happily for a long time.
I wore the sweater and stepped into the classroom on my birthday. When seeing my special sweater, some of my classmates were curious but others laughed at the old-fashioned design. However, their reaction didn’t bother me. After I explained its story and the love behind it, an expression of envy crossed their face. They showed great admiration for my unique and priceless gift. Wearing the sweater, I felt a profound connection to my grandmother. I proudly saw her creation as a badge of honour.
