动词-ing形式和动词不定式作宾语
I’m fond of keeping① a diary in English to improve my English
writing ability. My English teacher often suggests developing② the habit
of thinking in English, so we stick to practising③ it, and gradually we
learn how to express④ ourselves in English. When keeping a diary in
English, we certainly have difficulty in finding⑤ appropriate words and
phrases to express our ideas and feelings. As far as I am concerned, I
choose to have⑥ a notebook and a Chinese-English dictionary within easy
reach. Whenever something beats me, I enjoy writing⑦ it down in my
notebook and then consulting⑧ my dictionary. Remember to turn⑨ to English teachers for help, if necessary. In conclusion, I think it beneficial to keep⑩ a diary in English for the development of our writing skills.

Ⅰ.阅读理解
A
“When you experience a difficult period of time, there’s nothing wrong with crying a little, but you have to soldier on,” according to late billionaire Charlie Munger. “You can cry, all right. But you can’t quit.” Munger said that challenging times are unavoidable in everyone’s life. What matters is how you deal with them and then move on.
目 录
英语·选择性必修第一册(WY)
On the surface, Munger’s life may have appeared perfect. He was
a successful lawyer and investor, extremely wealthy, and he lived a
long, seemingly happy life. But his struggles and sadness were intense:
a divorce in his 20s, blindness in one eye as a result of failed surgery and
the death of his 9-year-old son Teddy, who had leukemia (白血病).
目 录
英语·选择性必修第一册(WY)
“Your ability to recover from struggles or disappointments,
whether in your personal life or career, is essential for your success and
happiness in the long run,” experts say. Often, that can mean properly
feeling sad or processing your disappointment before moving forward. As
Munger noted, crying can be a healthy way of doing that. It literally
helps you let go of emotional suffering through the release of endorphins
(内啡肽), research shows. In contrast, repressing (压抑) those
emotions can make a variety of mental and physical health problems
severer.
目 录
英语·选择性必修第一册(WY)
“The iron rule of life is: everybody struggles,” Munger said.
People who have the strength to carry on are more likely to live happily,
sometimes, learning a valuable lesson in the process. “It’s your only
option. You can’t bring back the dead. You can’t cure the dying child.
You can’t do all kinds of things,” said Munger. “You have to move
forward.”

How might a small act of kindness influence your mood later today,
tonight or throughout this week? An analysis released Tuesday from
scientists behind a research initiative called the BIG JOY Project finds that
people who commit daily “micro-acts” of joy experience about a 25%
increase in emotional well-being over the course of a week.
“We’re really excited,” says Emiliana Simon-Thomas, a BIG
JOY Project leader. “There are statistically significant, measurable
changes (including) greater well-being, better coping, less stress,
more satisfaction with relationships.”
目 录
英语·选择性必修第一册(WY)
The BIG JOY Project is a collaboration between UC Berkeley’s
Greater Good Science Center and other research institutions. So far the
researchers have preliminary results from over 70,000 participants in
more than 200 countries. Overall, the new analysis shows micro-acts led
to increased feelings of hope, optimism, as well as moments of fun or
silliness.
目 录
英语·选择性必修第一册(WY)
This project did not begin as a typical research study, but rather a
“citizen-science” project which is still open to anyone who wants to
participate. Here’s how it works. Participants take an online survey to
answer questions about their feelings, stress, and their social
tendencies. Then, every day for seven consecutive days, they agree to
try small, happiness-boosting activities.
目 录
英语·选择性必修第一册(WY)
The recommended micro-acts include making a gratitude list or
journal, or engaging in acts of kindness such as visiting a sick neighbour
or doing a nice gesture for a friend — or a stranger. Some micro-acts
involve celebrating another person’s joy, or engaging in self-
reflection, or taking the time to identify the silver lining in a bad
situation.
Each day, people answer questions about what they did and how
they felt afterwards. At the end of the week, they take another survey to
judge how their emotions and sense of well-being have changed.
目 录
英语·选择性必修第一册(WY)
“Rather than thinking of joy as something that happens to you, it
may make sense to think of it as a skill that you can get better at through
practice,” says Simon-Thomas. “If you want to stay physically fit,
you have to keep exercising,” Simon-Thomas says, “and the same
likely goes for well-being.”
