When he retired in 2002, he and his wife sometimes went back to the village for they didn’t need to work any longer. After knowing village children often had trouble finding enough books to read, Yang decided to give away all his books to start the library in August 2003. He hoped everyone in the village would make their lives rich and colorful through reading.
Over the past 21 years, Yang has given away plenty of money to buy more books for the library. With 6 reading rooms, it now stores over 54,000 books and has 30,000 tourists every year. Since Yang and his wife don’t always live in the village, they invite relatives and friends to work as volunteers and take care of the library. There are 16 volunteers working in the library all year round as the library is open every day, from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm.

What does the far side of the moon look like? Dark, cold and empty, but it had a visitor already—China’s Chang’e-6 probe (探测器). It successfully returned on June 25, 2024.
This task was the second time that China’s probe had returned with samples (样本) from the moon after Chang’e-5 in 2020. And it was the first time that humans had taken rock and soil samples from the moon’s far side in the world.
It has never been done before. The moon turns at the same speed as it moves around Earth. We can never see the far side of the moon from Earth. This makes it much harder for Chang’e-6 to finish its task. To help Chang’e-6 “talk” to Earth, China put Queqiao 2 into space in March. It’s a new relay satellite (中继卫星) which helps send messages back from the moon’s far side.
The task of Chang’e-6 to the moon took 53 days. During the time, Chang’e-6 flew in the direction of the moon and landed in a place called the South Pole-Aitken Basin (南极—艾特肯盆地), a huge hole on the far side of the moon. There, it successfully picked up 1935.3 grams of rock and soil. These samples mean that we are able to collect more by ourselves. Besides that, they will help us explore the history of the moon, Earth and even more.
36. When did Chang’e-6 successfully return?
A. In January. B. In May. C. In June. D. In November.
37. How many times has China gotten samples from the moon?
A. Once. B. Twice. C. Three times. D. Four times.
38. Why is it much harder for Chang’e-6 to finish its task?
A. Because Chang’e-6 moves faster than the Earth.
B. Because Chang’e-6 is always in complete darkness.
C. Because the surface of the moon isn’t smooth for landing.
D. Because we can never see the far side of the moon from Earth.
39. What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 4 refer to?
A. The sample. B. The Chang’e-6 probe.
C. The far side of the moon. D. The South Pole-Aitken Basin.
40. What can be the best title for the text?
A. Exploring the Moon B. Protect the Earth
C. Building Rooms D. Sending Satellites

When he retired in 2002, he and his wife sometimes went back to the village for they didn’t need to work any longer.

【答案】36. C 37. B 38. D 39. B 40. A
