On the afternoon of November 14, Beijing Time, the Shenzhou-20 taikonaut (中国航天员) crew — Chen Dong, Chen Zhongrui, and Wang Jie — successfully landed at the Dongfeng Landing Site by taking the Shenzhou-21 spaceship. This marked a safe end to their 204-day space mission. Their return was first planned for November 5, but it was put off for nine days. The reason was a small crack in Shenzhou-20’s porthole (舷窗), which was caused by space debris (碎片) hitting it.
This never-seen-before emergency started China’s well-prepared “one main and one backup” space rescue plan. Instead of taking the risk of coming back in the damaged spaceship, the crew moved to Shenzhou-21. This is the first time in China’s manned space history that another working spaceship has carried a different group of taikonauts back to Earth. While waiting for the new return time, the three taikonauts kept doing scientific experiments with the Shenzhou-21 crew. They added useful data to their research.
During their record-breaking stay in space, the Shenzhou-20 team finished four spacewalks, seven cargo transfer tasks, and a set of advanced experiments in space life sciences and materials science. Their achievements, including heating tungsten alloy (钨合金) to 3100°C, provided very important data for related fields.
The smooth emergency return fully showed how reliable China’s manned space engineering system is. From the quick start of the emergency plan to the accurate teamwork of the ground team and the spacecraft’s smart response to faults, every part proved that China’s space abilities are getting better. After landing, the taikonauts were checked and found to be in good health. This mission proved that China’s space program has passed the test successfully and given a great answer to the nation’s hopes.
33.Why did the Shenzhou-20 crew choose to return by Shenzhou-21?
A.Shenzhou-21 was more comfortable than Shenzhou-20.
B.Shenzhou-20 had a problem and was not safe for return.
C.Shenzhou-21 could carry more taikonauts.
D.The ground team asked them to try a new spaceship.
34.What can we infer from the “one main and one backup” space rescue plan ?
A.China has a perfect space emergency system.
B.Shenzhou -21 was originally a backup spacecraft.
C.The crew had predicted the porthole crack in advance.
D.Such a plan is used frequently in space missions.
35.What does the successful emergency return tell us?
A.Space debris can never hit spacecraft.
B.The “one main and one backup” plan won’t be needed in the future.
C.China’s taikonauts are the most experienced in the world.
D.China’s manned space engineering system is reliable.
36.What is the main topic of this passage?
A.The scientific experiments done by Shenzhou-20 crew in space.
B.The “one main and one backup” space rescue plan in China.
C.The reasons for the delay of Shenzhou-20 crew’s return.
D.The safe emergency return of Shenzhou-20 taikonauts and its meaning.

D
①When people think of wildfires, burning trees often come up. If you see a city burning while its trees remain standing, you might wonder if something unusual is happening.
②For weeks in January, large wildfires spread through Los Angeles. They destroyed a large number of homes and many people lost their lives. As pictures of the fires spread across the Internet, people noticed trees standing next to burned-out homes and cars. Some didn’t believe that a fire would leave trees untouched. “Is there a secret attack on L. A.homes?” they asked. The simple answer is no. As plenty of pictures and videos from Los Angeles show, trees can and do catch fire.
③But it’s true that some did not burn. Scientists say there is a simple explanation for that.
④It is all about moisture (湿气). “It’s quite easy to understand,” said Miranda Hart, a biology professor. “Trees are filled with thousands and thousands of liters (升) of water.” To be clear, trees do burn when fires are big and hot enough. But if a tree full of water is next to something very dry, the dry thing will burn first and even change the direction of the fire. “In that way, you can imagine the fire just going around the tree if there’s enough ‘fuel’ (燃料) on either side of it,” Prof. Hart added.
⑤In addition, the tree type also matters. Certain trees are more likely to catch fire. Deciduous trees (trees that lose their leaves every year), for example, are hard to burn. That’s because their leaves include more water. While for conifers—trees with needle-like (针状的) leaves, things are the opposite.
⑥In Los Angeles, palms (棕榈树) are everywhere. They’ve become a symbol of the city. But based on the research, palm trees are especially prone to spreading fire because of their structure and type. So, to reduce fire risks, the local fire departments have advised against planting more palms. Without proper care, these trees can burn and spread rapidly during wildfires and endanger the people and objects nearby.
37.Some people had doubts about the wildfires in Los Angeles because ________.
A.they have lasted much longer than usual B.hidden enemies attacked homes and cars
C.some trees remained unchanged in the fires D.pictures of the fires spread across the Internet
38.How would a fire pass through a tree full of water and dry things according to Prof. Hart?
○a tree full of water □a dry thing →fire’s path
A. B. C. D.
39.According to the passage, which type of tree is easier to catch fire?
A.Trees with thin, narrow and hard leaves. B.Trees which drop their leaves every year.
C.Trees with rich water in their broad leaves. D.Trees that are taller than the others around.
40.Which of the following shows the structure of this text?
A.①②→③④→⑤⑥ B.①②→③④⑤→⑥
C.①→②③→④⑤⑥ D.①→②③④⑤→⑥
【答案】37.C 38.B 39.A 40.B
37.文中第二段提到“people noticed trees standing next to burned-out homes and cars. Some didn’t believe that a fire would leave trees untouched”,这直接说明一些人在野火中看到树木未燃,所以对洛杉矶野火有疑问。
38.文中第四段提到“But if a tree full of water is next to something very dry, the dry thing will burn first and even change the direction of the fire.”,说明如果一棵充满水分的树旁边有干燥物体,干燥物体会先燃烧,甚至改变火的方向,火可能会绕过树木,图示B显示火改变了方向,绕过树木燃烧干燥物体。
39.第五段说明:“While for conifers—trees with needle-like (针状的) leaves, things are the opposite”,结合前文提到落叶树难燃,可知针状叶的树更容易燃烧,选项A“Trees with thin, narrow and hard leaves”符合针状叶树的特征。
As junior high school students, we often feel tired and stressed, 41 . But with helpful study plans, learning can become much easier and more efficient*. Here are some practical tips for you.
42 Spend 10 minutes each evening making a to-do list like solving math problems, remembering English vocabulary or taking physics notes. Then finish the most difficult task first when your brain is fresh next day. This can help you to study more efficiently.
Second, break big tasks into small parts. When you review a whole unit in history, you can first divide it into several parts and summarize two parts every day. 43 .
Third, it’s better to use the 40-10 rule for breaks. Study for 40 minutes, then you can take a 10-minute break. 44 . This helps your brain stay sharp and prevents tiredness. Don’t use phones, as they may distract (分散) your focus.

46.(i)nvitation 47.(d)oubt 48.(d)ecision 49.(E)xactly 50.(g)olden
根据“My cousin invited me”和首字母i可推出是接受了邀请,用名词单数invitation“邀请”。故填(i)nvitation。
根据“My legs were tired, and the thin air made breathing difficult”和首字母d可推出条件恶劣,怀疑自己能否到达山顶,doubt“怀疑”,begin to do sth.“开始做某事”。故填(d)oubt。
根据“to give up or to go on”和首字母d可推出要做出决定,decision“决定”,a后接其单数形式。故填(d)ecision。
根据“the first light of dawn (黎明) appeared and gave me new hope”和首字母E可推出此处讲第一缕曙光恰好在我决定继续的时候出现,Exactly“恰好”符合语境。故填(E)xactly。
The school English Festival ________ ________ ________ in our school in a month.
【答案】 will be held
故填will;be;held。
52.Leo
Leo ________ ________ ________ ________ a prize in the English Festival.
【答案】 is eager to win
【详解】be eager to do sth“渴望做某事”;win“赢得”;时态为一般现在时,主语是Leo,be动词用is。故填is;eager;to;win。
However, he is _______ ________ ________ his study ________ he has no time to prepare for the festival.
【答案】 so busy with that
故填so;busy;with;that。
He doesn’t know ________ ________ ________ this problem.
【答案】 how to solve
故填how;to;solve。
Mr. Zhou has offered Leo many useful suggestions. ________ ________ ________ person Mr. Zhou is!
What a kind
故填What;a;kind。

Stephanie Louise Kwolek was born in a small town of the United States in 1923. Her parents were born in Poland and then they moved to the US. Stephanie’s school was so small that two grades were taught in one classroom. She was an excellent reader and had a great memory. She was also very good at Maths. The older kids in her class got annoyed when she knew answers that they didn’t.
Stephanie’s love of science came from her father who died when she was 10 years old. Every night when he came home from work, he sat and read a book or newspaper. He encouraged Stephanie to explore the great outdoors. Together, they often walked in woods, collecting leaves and flowers. Stephanie’s mother, a seamstress (女裁缝), inspired Stephanie’s creativity. She copied her mother’s patterns to make costumes for paper dolls. Sometimes, she used the sewing machine when her mother wasn’t using it. Stephanie liked working with fabric (织物), and she was good at it. At that time, she wanted to be a fashion designer.
As Stephanie grew older, she wanted to use science to help people. In 1946, she received a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from a college. After graduation, she wanted to become a doctor so she decided to go to medical school. The job was supposed to be temporary, but Stephanie fell in love with it and never looked back. Her work at the company combined (结合) her childhood love of science and fabric with her interests in helping people and solving problems, and her creations would change the world.
At the company, Stephanie invented Kevlar fiber (凯夫拉纤维) which is five times stronger than steel. Kevlar fiber is now used in more than 200 products, including spacecraft and bulletproof vests (防弹衣). Stephanie’s invention has saved countless lives. She spent her life researching and teaching people about her work, and was a strong support for women in science around the world.
