三、阅读理解。
Millions of years ago, dinosaurs controlled the earth. And there were different kinds of dinosaurs on earth. Some of them were no bigger than chickens, while some were about 90 feet long. But all of them had very small brains. Later on, there weren't any dinosaurs. What happened to them?
In the days of dinosaurs, the whole earth was warm and wet. There were many green forests. But the earth changed slowly all the time. When parts of the earth became freezing and dry, the forests there died. Then dinosaurs could not find enough food to eat. This must be one reason why dinosaurs died out.
There were also terrible fights between dinosaurs. Though there was no man to see any of the fights, the animals' footprints could tell us that the fights did happen.
What's another reason? We can make a guess. New kinds of animals might come to the earth. Some of them had big brains and were fast and strong. They could kill dinosaurs. Some ate dinosaur eggs, too.
There may be other reasons that we do not know about. Each year people will find some dinosaur footprints and bones. Scientists are trying to tell us more about dinosaurs.

The Secret in the Soil
(大连期中)Lily, a 14yearold girl, thought she was bad at everything until she found an old seed bag in her grandmother's garden. “Why not try growing plants?” she thought.
At first, her plants died quickly. She watered them too much, and her small balcony got little sunlight. Feeling sad, Lily almost gave up until her science teacher Ms Chen noticed her hard work. “Plants need time and care, not just water,” Ms Chen said gently. She taught Lily to write in a notebook every week: “Water on Tuesday. Check leaves for bugs. Give plants food once a month.”
Lily's balcony slowly changed into a green corner. She grew tall sunflowers that could turn to face the sun. Her mint(薄荷)plants smelled so fresh she sometimes sniffed(闻)them for fun.
In her notebook, she drew pictures and wrote simple notes: “Day 30: My bean plant is as tall as my water bottle! It climbed the stick I tied there.”
One rainy afternoon, her first tomato turned bright red. When she shared it with her family at dinner, Lily smiled. “Plants grow slowly—they don't try to hurry,” she told herself. “Maybe I don't need to be perfect all the time, either.” Now when friends say, “You are more confident after you begin gardening.” Lily answers, “Yes! I have also learned a lot from my new hobby. It has taught me to wait and watch. Sometimes it's okay if things take time.”
1.Why did Lily's plants die at first?
Because she watered them too much, and her small balcony got little sunlight.
2.What plants did Lily grow successfully? List two of them.
Sunflowers, mints, beans and tomatoes.(任选其二)
3.What did Lily learn from her new hobby?

4.What can you learn from Lily? Write 30 words or more.
We can learn from Lily that we should be patient in life. Just like plants' growing, everything happens at its own pace. Also, we should accept that we're not always perfect.(开放性试题,答案不唯一)
