一、创设情境
Step 1: Warming-up (5 minutes)
1. Greet the students and have a free talk about their favourite stories.
2. Show the opening page of Unit 8 and ask students to observe the picture.
- What are the students in the photo doing?
- How do you think they feel about it?
- What do you think the teacher is helping them with?
3. Introduce the big question: “Why do we tell stories?” and encourage students to share their initial thoughts.

Step 2: Presentation (10 minutes)
1. Present the learning objectives of this unit on the PPT.
- Tell stories and talk about what you can learn from them.
- Use the simple past tense and the simple present tense to tell a story.
- Make up an ending for a story.
- Explore stories from different cultures.
2. Show the pictures in Section A 1a and ask students:
- Do you know what stories they are about?
- Which story do you like best? Why?
3. Introduce the two stories: “The Lion and the Mouse” and “The Old Farmer’s Horse”.

Step 3: Listening Practice (10 minutes)
1. Play the recording for 1b. Students listen and put the sentences in order.
- The mouse bit through the net.
- The hunter caught the lion.
- The lion let the mouse go.
- The lion caught the mouse.
- The mouse promised to help the lion.
2. Check the answers with the students and ask them to repeat the sentences.
3. Play the recording again for 1c. Students listen and choose the correct words to complete the sentences.
4. Invite some students to share their answers and correct them if necessary.
5. Play the recording a third time. Students listen and repeat, paying attention to the pronunciation of past tense verbs.

Step 4: Pair Work (8 minutes)
1. Students work in pairs to role-play the conversation about “The Lion and the Mouse” or “The Old Farmer’s Horse”.
2. Circulate around the classroom and offer help and guidance as needed.
3. Invite some pairs to present their role-play to the class

Step 5: Pronunciation (10 minutes)
1. Present the words with different consonant digraphs on the PPT: ch, ph, sh, th, wh.
2. Play the recording and ask students to listen and repeat.
3. Explain the pronunciation rules:
- ch [tʃ] (e.g., teach, chair)
- ph [f] (e.g., photo, elephant)
- sh [ʃ] (e.g., she, fish)
- th [θ] [ð] (e.g., think, this)
- wh [w] [h] (e.g., what, who)
4. Ask students to add one more word to each group and practice pronouncing them..
