It is famous online because of its special job—it helps guests carry their bags to a homestay (民宿). Mr. Xu, its owner, first put videos of it online just for fun. But they quickly became popular! Now, Hakimi is a superstar. More and more people want to see this clever dog. In just three days, the homestay made about 20,000 yuan! Hakimi started this job in a funny way. “When Hakimi first came to our home, it was very playful,” Mr. Xu says. “Last April, when I took it out to play, I had an idea—why not let it try pulling a small cart? To my surprise, it learned right away!” “We never taught Hakimi how to do it. At first, Hakimi was a little clumsy (笨拙的). It would sometimes run into people or turn over the cart. But with practice, it became good at it!” says Mr. Xu. “Every time it pulls the cart, it wags its tail (摇尾巴) excitedly, like it’s playtime!” Hakimi’s work route is short—just 200 metres—from Lijiang Old Town’s South Gate to the homestay. Guests often ask for its help, and it always gets ready to do the job. It carries bags three to six times a day. 1.What special job does Hakimi do? Most of us see them in zoos. But there is one kind of tiger you might never see—the South China Tiger. It is one of the most endangered (濒危的) animals in the world. “Endangered” means there are very, very few of them left alive in the wild. Long ago, thousands of these beautiful tigers lived in the mountains and forests of south China. They had bright orange fur with dark black stripes. They were strong and skilled hunters (捕猎者). But now, scientists think there are almost no South China Tigers living freely in nature. What happened? First, people cut down many forests to build farms and cities. This destroyed the tigers’ habitat—the natural place where an animal lives. Without a forest, tigers lose their home and their food. Second, some people hunted tigers for their fur or for medicine. This made the number of tigers drop quickly. Is there any hope for the South China Tiger? Yes! China is trying very hard to save them. Special places called reserves (保护区) are built. A reserve is a protected area where animals can live safely. Some tigers live in zoos, and scientists hope to teach their babies how to live in the wild again. It is a difficult plan, but people are working on it. We must remember: Every animal is important in our world. Losing the South China Tiger would not just mean losing a big cat. It would mean losing a part of China’s natural beauty forever. Protecting them is protecting our future. 1.What is TRUE about the South China Tiger in the past? A.They lived in zoos around the world. B.They had yellow fur with white stripes. C.They were good at hunting in forests. D.They were found in many countries. 2.In Paragraph 3, the underlined word “destroyed” most probably means ________. 3.Which is NOT a reason for the South China Tiger becoming endangered? A.Losing their habitat because of building. B.Being hunted by people for different uses. C.Living in reserves that are too small. D.Not having enough food and home. 4.What can we infer from Paragraph 4? A.All South China Tigers now live in the wild freely. B.It is an easy job to save the South China Tiger. C.People have given up trying to protect this tiger. D.China is taking action to help the tigers survive. 5.What is the main purpose of this passage? A.To tell people how to hunt South China Tiger. B.To describe the life of South China Tiger in a zoo. C.To explain why and how to save the South China Tiger. D.To ask more people to visit forests of south China. 1.根据第二段 “They were strong and skilled hunters.” 2.根据第三段 “First, people cut down many forests to build farms and cities. This destroyed the tigers’ habitat—the natural place where an animal lives.” 4.根据第四段 “China is trying very hard to save them. Special places called reserves are built. A reserve is a protected area where animals can live safely.” Passage 3 moth dolphin horse bat cat dog Did you know that people can hear sounds from 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz? But guess what? Many animals can hear even better than us! Scientists say the animal with the best ears is the moth (蛾). Moths can hear really high sounds, even higher than bats make. This helps them stay safe because bats eat moths. When a moth hears a bat coming, it can fly away fast. Bats can’t see well, so they use their ears to “see” in the dark. They listen for echoes (回声) to find food. Dolphins are like bats. They use echoes to swim around, find fish, and talk to each other. Dolphins can hear sounds from 150 Hz to 150,000 Hz. They can also make these sounds. How cool it is! Horses can hear many different sounds from 55 Hz to 33,000 Hz. Their good hearing helps them listen for danger. If they hear a predator, they can tell other horses. Then all the horses run to a safe place together. Cats and dogs can hear special high sounds that people can’t hear. These sounds help cats catch mice. When training dogs, people use special whistles (口哨). The whistle makes a high sound that dogs can hear, but it’s quiet for people. Animals’ ears help them live in the wild. Each animal uses its ears in a different way. Isn’t nature amazing? 1.What can high sounds help moths? A.Talk to each other. B.Catch a mouse. C.Run away from bats. D.Find food at night. 2.How do dolphins and bats find food? A.By using echoes. B.By watching carefully. C.By making low sounds. D.By following other animals. 3.What does the underlined word “predator” in paragraph 4 mean? A.Helper. B.Reader. C.Worker. D.Hunter. 4.What can we learn about cats and dogs according to the text? A.People use special whistles to train cats. B.Both of them can hear special high sounds. C.High sounds help them stay away from danger. D.Dogs can make special whistle that people can’t hear. 5.The writer writes this text mainly to ________. A.explain how to train animals B.tell the amazing hearing of animals C.encourage readers to protect animals D.talk about the living habits of different animals 【答案】1.C 2.A 3.D 4.B 5.B 【导语】本文是一篇说明文,主要介绍了不同动物的听觉能力及其在生存中的重要作用,包括蛾子、蝙蝠、海豚、马、猫和狗等。 1. 根据“This helps them stay safe because bats eat moths.” 根据“Dolphins are like bats. They use echoes to swim around, find fish, and talk to each other.”以及“use their ears to ‘see’ in the dark… listen for echoes”可知,两者都通过回声定位觅食。故选A。 3. 根据“Their good hearing helps them listen for danger. If they hear a predator…” 根据“Cats and dogs can hear special high sounds that people can’t hear.” B。 Passage 4 ①Keeping pets has become popular. How would you feel? Angry? Sad? At this moment, you realize people, plants, and animals are all connected. We need each other to live. 1 Bees are very hard-working animals, and their greatest work is pollination. On one trip, they often visit 50 to 100 flowers. As they fly from one flower to another, they take pollen with them. 2 In fact, without their work, about 80% of the plants in the world cannot grow. For this reason, many scientists believe that bees are the most important animals on this planet. 3 For example, they work hard together to make their homes. In order to store honey, they create honeycombs. Another interesting thing about bees is how they communicate. 4 Bees play an important part in the ecosystem of our planet. 5 They need our help, and there is a lot we can do. Think about what you can do to protect one of the most amazing animals on earth. A.Bees fly around flowers. B.This action helps plants grow. C.And bees are one of the best examples of this connection. D.Bees are also one of the most interesting animals in the world. E.However, the number of bees is dropping, and scientists are worried. Passage 3 moth dolphin horse bat cat dog Did you know that people can hear sounds from 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz? A.explain how to train animals B.tell the amazing hearing of animals C.encourage readers to protect animals D.talk about the living habits of different animals Passage 4 ①Keeping pets has become popular. Here are some points about it. ②It can be a great way to learn how to be responsible through having a pet.
