When Michael Martin was going to do his normal shopping at a Smart & Final store in Sacramento, California with his family, curiosity made him stop in front of a man sitting outside. It's no wonder to see some homeless people outside different stores, but this man seemed different. He was sitting on his sleeping bag with his résumés (简历) and a sign that read “need work and food”.
The man was named Frederic Callison, 52 and a former cook.He came to Sacramento two years ago from Washington in the hope of getting a job as a cook. His plans were stopped and he ended up in this unexpected way ever since.Smart & Final allowed him to stay near the store, as he helped them to push carts for free.
But he would not like to ask for money like most of the homeless people.Instead, he decided to use the place as an active job-hunting to change his difficult circumstances. So he made the sign. This was not just words, as his Social Security number and ID were also kept handy. All the documents showed his serious intentions to find work.
Martin was amazed by such preparations and asked the man for his résumés.Without hesitation, Callison handed one to him.The résumé, which was well-written and had a striking résumé headline, claimed that he was a fine cook. Then he began telling Martin about his qualification and work experiences. It was like a real interview, but not so intense and strict.
Martin was impressed and inspired by Callison's will and efforts to work.He totally understood the situation of Callison.Efforts and determination of Callison were worth respect, as it was really a difficult goal.
(根据前文和所给段落开头语,续写Michael Martin帮助这位无家可归的人→Michael Martin买食物和水→Michael Martin帮忙找工作→找到工作→感激Michael Martin。要求逻辑通顺,情节合理。词数80左右。)
Michael Martin decided to do what he could to help the homeless man. ________________________________________________________

参考范文:
Michael Martin decided to do what he could to help the homeless man. After buying him some water and food, Martin photographed the résumé.He posted Frederic's story with the photo on social networks, hoping that someone would come forward and offer the determined man a job.Martin was not sure if that would make any difference, so he also passed the photo to his former colleagues, who worked for a company in the food industry.Soon there was a result.Someone paying attention to the post on the Internet invited Frederic Callison to be a cook at a pizza restaurant.Callison was really grateful to Martin for creating such an opportunity.

WWF Global Youth Volunteer Program
Organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), this program invites teens to join projects like tree planting, beach cleanups, and wildlife conservation in countries such as Kenya and Indonesia. In May 2019, a friend who had previously been involved in the Restless Development Sierra Leone Business Brains project encouraged me to apply for the “Saving Lives Ⅱ” project.Seeing this as an opportunity to move closer to my aim of working in the medical field in the near future, I eagerly seized the chance.Fortunately, my performance during the interview led to me being awarded the role.
Following the basic training, I was sent to volunteer in Kurubonla, a remote community located in the northern region of Sierra Leone. This assignment presented challenges such as limited road access and communication networks. At first, I felt concerned about being sent there, but with a determined mindset, I set out on the journey, driven by a passion to contribute to my country's development and to push my personal boundaries.
As I got to know the community, I quickly realized that the challenges extended beyond language barriers and cultural differences; there was also a sense of isolation from my peers. However, I refused to allow these challenges to stop me.I threw myself in my duties, working together with local leaders and community members to identify the most pressing needs.Together, we carried out the projects aimed at improving healthcare, education, and infrastructure (基础设施).Additionally, I organized workshops and training courses to share my knowledge and skills with the locals.
Over time, I witnessed the positive impact of our collective efforts.Healthcare facilities improved, the number of students in schools increased, and the overall quality of life in the community showed signs of improvement. These achievements were not solely mine; they were a testament to the cooperative spirit and commitment of the entire community.

Reading opens a world of possibilities. Books about self-improvement, DIY home repair or novels that engage your imagination can be transformative. But for people who are food insecure, going to a bookstore or a library is not a priority (优先事项). That's why a charity in Britain is now serving books at local food banks.
The charity, Bookbanks, was founded by Emily Rhodes, a London-based writer who has been surrounded by books in her entire life. She was a keen reader, studied English in university, and worked in publishing and bookselling before becoming a journalist.
In 2022, Rhodes began volunteering at a community food center in Newington Green, in northeast London. There she realized that bringing books into the center could not only enrich people's lives with reading but it could also help people make connections and socialize. “People think of a book as a solitary thing, but I think there's another side to books that makes them amazing connectors and community builders,” Rhodes said.
Rhodes started small by setting up a table with a few hundred books at the food bank in Newington Green. At first, Rhodes gave books from her own collection but as her project grew, she started to get donations from bookstores, libraries and publishers.
Then she and her co-director Hattie Garlick officially launched Bookbanks as a charity and began to expand in the city. Since three percent of people use food banks, this is a great opportunity to get books into the hands of people that cannot afford to own books.
Yusuf, 53, a food bank user, said that he took books to read with his son. “It's the best time; we are quiet together. We haven't got money, but we have books. The books are full of knowledge and knowledge is good,” he said.
There are currently four Bookbanks locations, according to the organization, and to date, more than 3,000 books have been given away. There are plans to open four-to-six more locations in food banks in 2025. And the food banks have the potential to be a community space of socializing and learning and not just a place to be fed.

Nobody ever imagined that after being lost for more than half a century, the intangible cultural heritage known as Gaolou Mixian would be restored and passed down by a young man. “As someone of Gaolou origin, I have a responsibility to restore our ancestors' art form,” said Chen Guorui, the world's only inheritor of this ancient art.
Gaolou Mixian uses rice paste (米糊) to glue together selected grains of transparent rice to create realistic figures or structures. It is a unique folk art that developed during the Qing Dynasty and reached its peak during the first half of the 20th century. Each household in Gaolou village would make rice structures that they put on display in their ancestral halls during the Chinese New Year, which attracted people from all sides.
However, due to the wet weather in southern China, these rice-made artworks would only last three to four months before losing their shape. It is for this reason that these works are not seen in museums in China. Due to various historical reasons, most people in Gaolou village did not pass down the art form, which caused it to disappear nearly 70 years ago.
Chen found out about this after hearing one former resident express disappointment about its loss. Curious, he started to do research and tried out the methods he heard about from older people in the village. After several months of exploration, Chen finally completed his first successful work.
Over the past five years, Chen has gradually improved his skills and even begun using new techniques, such as creating some colorful artworks with colored grains of rice. Since 2017, people at home and abroad have taken an interest in this long-lost art form. To avoid being the last inheritor (传承者), Chen has been giving classes to some students at a primary school in Fuzhou with the support of local education authorities.

C.The disappointment of the villagers.
D.The reason why the artworks lose their shape.
解析:代词指代题。根据第三段最后一句可知,高楼米线由于无人传承,最终消失了。结合画线词所在句和指代关系可推知,指示代词“this”指代的是上文中高楼米线这种艺术形式的消失。
√
14.To train more inheritors, what has Chen Guorui done?
A.Giving classes to primary students.
B.Creating many colorful artworks.
C.Improving his skills.
D.Asking older villagers for suggestions.
