My favourite food is mooncake. With all kinds of contents in it, it not only has different flavours but also tastes delicious. Besides, it is often eaten on the Mid-Autumn Festival, which is a time when a family gets together and enjoys the full moon. As a result, mooncakes convey good messages. There are too many treasures in life we take for granted, the worth of which we don't fully realize until they're pointed out to us in some unexpected way. So it was with Mama's minestrone soup. There was no recipe for her minestrone soup. For our large immigrant family, Mama's soup guaranteed we would never go hungry. It was a symbol of safety. Its recipe was created spontaneously (非计划安排地) from what was in the kitchen. And we could judge the state of our family economy by its contents. A hearty soup with tomatoes, pasta, beans, carrots, celery, onion, corn and meat showed things were going well. A watery soup suggested hard times. At one time, however, Mama's soup pot became a source of embarrassment to me, for I feared it would cost me a new friend I had made at school. Sol was a thin, dark-haired boy, and an unusual pal for me because his father was a doctor and they lived in the best part of town. Often Sol invited me to his home for dinner. The family had a cook in a white uniform who worked in a kitchen with shining utensils The food was good, but I found it bland (清淡的), lacking the heartiness of my home food served from flame-blackened pots. Moreover, the atmosphere matched the food. Everything was so formal. Sol's mother and father were polite, but conversation around the table was subdued. And no one hugged! In our family, warm hugs were a constant and if you didn't kiss your mother, she demanded: “What's the matter, you sick?” But at that time in my life, all this was an embarrassment. I had known Sol would like to eat dinner at our house, but that was the last thing I wanted. My family was so different. Finally when Sol asked again if he could come to our house, I had to say yes. The day Sol came over I was very nervous. Mama and the other family members welcomed him with embraces. Soon after sitting at the heavy, deeply stained table, we were instantly faced with bowls of soup. “Sol,” Mama asked, “you know what this is?” “Soup?” Sol responded. “No soup,” Mama said emphatically. “It's minestrone!”______ ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 参考范文: “No soup,” Mama said emphatically. “It's minestrone!” Mama said the soup would make Sol strong. I was so embarrassed. But to my amazement, I noticed Sol took a spoonful of Mama's minestrone soup. He really enjoyed it and after he finished his bowl, he asked for two more. Meanwhile, I saw him relax, melting in my family's easy atmosphere. When we were saying our good-byes, Sol said, “You sure have a great family.” Suddenly, I realized that true wealth was found in the simple joys of family and a steaming bowl of Mama's minestrone soup. 单词拼写(5分) (1)Strictly speaking, your _______(看法) isn't the same as mine. Entomophagy This is a proper term for eating insects! Numerous people realize that many of our basic foods may disappear in the coming decades and insects can offer people good protein (蛋白质) to replace animal meats, so they believe insects are a good choice. It hasn't quite happened yet because we all think insects are extremely unpleasant. But, many chefs are already experimenting in the field. A number of top chefs in London are using their cooking creativity to turn something unpleasant into something delicious. Tech at the Table Digital products will probably become a common part of our food and drink experiences in the near future. We're going to see things like tablets and computer screens that can tell stories around the food we are eating. We'll be able to change the color of plates digitally, because we know that colors can change the taste of food or make it look better. The Experimental Meal The experimental meal is liked by a growing number of people interested in finding new connections between their senses. They think that food is not just what goes into the mouth, but a whole experience. They're seeing dining — music, lighting, staff uniforms, temperature changes — as a whole meal. They are trying to put different things together instead of having dinner and then going to the theatre, why not bring the two together? The same goes for cinema and music. 1.What is the reason for some people to turn to insects for food? A.The better taste of protein from insects. B.The popularity of some chefs in London. C.The possibility of main food disappearing. D.The performance of some chefs' experiments. 根据第二段中的“Numerous people realize that ...are a good choice.” C。 √ 2.Why is the color of plates changed digitally? A.To make the food healthy. B.To make the food attractive. C.To make the plate funny. D.To make the plate eco-friendly. B。 √ 3.Why do some people prefer the experimental meal? A.To connect senses in a new way. B.To bring colorful plates together. C.To combine food with digital products. D.To carry out technology experiments. A。 √ B Since ancient times, food has been a base for cultures worldwide. It is important for our survival, which is why attention on food is a universal rule that connects us all. To feed our hungry brains, our ancestors invented fire and cooking, which passed digestion to culture. In fact, a culture's food vocabulary is a window into its values and priorities. The cultural psychologist Paul Rozin has found that when French and American research participants are asked what comes to mind when thinking of fried eggs, the French say “breakfast” while Americans say “cholesterol (胆固醇)”. The French think of the cooking experience; Americans think of what is entering the bloodstream. Sometimes, slurping (出声地吃) noodles is seen as the preferred way to interact with the delicious dish. There is a great scene in Juzo Itami's film,Tampopo (1985) where a group of women in a hotel are being taught table manners and told to eat their Italian pasta noodles slowly and quietly. Another diner sitting nearby happily is slurping his noodles and the joy he gets from audibly (声音地) and physically interacting with his food is infectious. Before they know it, even the teacher is also slurping her noodles. Besides, specific dishes never represent an unchanging tradition. “My grandma's Egg Foo Young looks and tastes completely different from what you might find in a restaurant or in somebody else's home. After asking about her version, I realized that she learned how to make it by picking up different cooking styles as she traveled from Jiangxi, Macao, and Hong Kong,” said Shirley Ting, a Canadian researcher. If we treat culture as a defined thing, then we can see food as an important part of culture — food practices and traditions help communicate cultural values, reproduce those values over time and across generations, and help improve a group's sense of having a distinct identity, different from other groups. 4.What may we learn from Paul Rozin's research on food? A.Food vocabulary increases with cultural exchanges. B.People have the same food-related health concerns. C.Different cultures prioritize different aspects of food. D.Americans and the French have similar cooking methods. C。 √ 5.Why does the author mention the scene in Tampopo? A.To highlight different food preferences. B.To stress the appeal of pleasurable dining. C.To criticize rude manners in public places. D.To compare dining habits in films and daily life. B。 √ 6.Which function of food is referred to in the last paragraph? A.Passing down traditional cooking techniques. B.Encouraging cultural appreciation globally. C.Presenting cultural gaps and differences. D.Strengthening cultural values and uniqueness. D。 √ 7.What does the text mainly talk about? A.Diet can impact health. B.Food is a bridge to culture. C.Noodles can be a cultural symbol. D.Global views are different about food trends. B。 √ C A recent study showed that eating processed red meat (like bacon or hot dogs) frequently can increase the chances of developing dementia (痴呆) by 13 percent, but replacing red meat with nuts, beans or fish can lower the risk by 20 percent. “Dietary guidelines tend to focus on reducing risks of chronic (慢性的) conditions, while cognitive (认知的) health like dementia is less frequently discussed,” said Daniel Wang, a founding member of the Mass General Brigham health care system. The results, published online in Neurology on 15 January, show that the dementia risk is related to an imbalance of good and bad bacteria (细菌) in our guts caused by red meat. Researchers tracked the health of 133,000 people for more than 40 years to understand how diet affects brain health. The participants were mostly nurses and other healthcare workers who regularly shared details about what they ate. People who ate processed red meat daily were more likely to develop dementia than those who rarely ate these foods. A standard serving of red meat was about the size of a soap bar. The participants underwent standard memory tests, which revealed that each daily serving of processed meat aged the brain by about 1.6 years. Additionally, people who ate more meat, whether processed or regular, reported memory and thinking problems. When we eat meat, our gut bacteria break it down into a substance called TMAO(Trimethylamine N-oxide). Researchers think TMAO might harm our brains by causing certain proteins to clump together — the same proteins they see in dementia. However, they still need to do more research to understand this fully. “We need these kinds of long-term studies to understand dementia because it develops very slowly, over many years,” Dr Wang added. Choosing what we put on our plate could be a key differentiator of brain health. 8.What did the study in the text focus on? A.The dietary risks for heart disease. B.The benefits of nuts, beans and fish. C.The importance of dietary guidelines. D.The impact of diet on cognitive health. D。 √ 9.What do we know about the findings of the study in Neurology? A.Red meat is linked to improvements in memory. B.Red meat is the only risk factor for brain health. C.Daily red meat consumption speeds up brain aging. D.Eating red meat contributes to gut bacteria balance. 根据第四段中的“The participants underwent standard memory tests, which revealed that each daily serving of processed meat aged the brain by about 1.6 years.” C。 √ 10.It is implied in this text that we should___________ . A.add processed red meat to our diet B.eat more meat to strengthen memory C.pay attention to diet for better mental health D.have a balanced diet to improve health conditions 根据最后一段中的“Choosing what we put on our plate could be a key differentiator of brain health.” C。 √ 11.Where is this text probably taken from? A.A health magazine. B.A medical textbook. C.A cooking blog. D.A business report. A。 √ D Despite the fact that burgers, chips and fries are known as some of the most unhealthy food we can eat, they are still the most popular food. There are a few reasons behind that. Firstly, junk food is generally easy to get and take with you. This convenience is a major draw for many, especially people who are always on the go. Fast-food restaurants can be found outside many schools and workplaces, providing meals in under a minute. Secondly, junk food contains a lot of added sugar and fat. This kind of food causes our brain to send out certain chemicals, which produce the feeling of relaxation, pleasure and enjoyment. That's why such food is called “comfort food”. Thirdly, our ancestors didn't have such easy access to the huge variety of food we come across every day. They didn't have the convenience of having food as easily as we do. So they made it a habit to eat as much as they could to survive and protect themselves from the hard natural conditions. The cave mentality (心理) is passed down to us, which makes us believe that we can never have enough food that is high in sugar and fat, no matter how crazily we eat. Besides, when we are too worried and tired to relax, our body produces cortisol (皮质醇), which increases the sugar content in the blood, so it can be used as energy to aid in fat and carbohydrate metabolism (碳水化合物代谢). Additionally, it is also found to increase hunger. That's the reason why when we're thinking about unpleasant things, we prefer foods that are high in sugar, fat and carbohydrate, that is to say unhealthy food. 12.Why are fast-food restaurants mentioned? A.To show they take up the best site. B.To show they provide good service. C.To show they are famous for their taste. D.To show they make junk food easy to get. D。 √ 13.What does the author want to tell us in paragraph 4? A.We need all kinds of food. B.Our ancestors lived a hard life. C.We are born to eat more than we need. D.It is difficult for us to change our habits. C。 √ 14.What is a cause of the increase of sugar content in our body? A.Too much stress. B.A wish for food. C.A fast metabolic rate. D.Not having enough energy. A。 √ 15.What is the text mainly about? A.How harmful junk food is. B.Why fast food is so delicious. C.How we can develop a healthy lifestyle. D.Why we love unhealthy food so much. The Importance of a Balanced Diet for High School Students High School life is filled with various challenges, from academic pressure to social interactions. Among all these, maintaining a balanced diet is of significance for students.______ 16 A balanced diet provides the necessary nutrients for our growing bodies. Proteins, such as those found in lean meats, eggs, and beans, are essential for building and repairing tissues. Carbohydrates, like whole grains and fruits, supply us with energy to get through the long school days.______ They help our bodies function properly and keep us healthy. For instance, calcium in dairy products is crucial for strong bones, which is especially important for active high-school students. Moreover, a good diet can have a positive impact on our mental performance. When we eat a balanced meal, our brains receive a steady supply of glucose, which is the main source of energy for the brain. This helps us stay focused during classes and improves our memory and concentration.______ On the contrary, a diet high in junk food may lead to energy crashes and difficulty concentrating. 17 18 In addition, having a balanced diet can also influence our social life. Sharing healthy meals with friends and family can be a great bonding experience. It creates opportunities for communication and strengthens relationships. For example, having a family dinner with a variety of nutritious dishes allows family members to catch up and share their day.______ In conclusion, a balanced diet is not just about satisfying our hunger but a key factor in our overall well-being during high school.______ Let's make wise food choices and enjoy the benefits of a balanced diet. 19 20 A.So, we should always choose healthy snacks instead of junk food. B.Here's why it matters so much. C.In this way, we can enjoy both good health and harmonious relationships. D.Fats, though often considered bad, are also necessary in moderation. E.It also plays a role in reducing stress and improving our mood. F.Many students tend to skip meals due to busy schedules. G.We should try to include different food groups in our daily diet. 16.选B 上文“Among all these, maintaining a balanced diet is of significance for students.” 17.选D 上文“Proteins, such as those found in lean meats, eggs ...get through the long school days.”提到不同种类的食物所提供的不同营养,D项“脂肪虽然通常被认为是有害的,但适量也是必要的”和上文形成并列关系,下文“They help our bodies function properly and keep us healthy.” 18.选E 上文“This helps us stay focused during classes and improves our memory and concentration.”描述均衡饮食的好处,下文“On the contrary, a diet high in junk food may lead to energy crashes and difficulty concentrating.” 19.选C 根据上文“It creates opportunities for communication ...to catch up and share their day.” 20.选G 根据上文“In conclusion, a balanced diet is not just about satisfying our hunger but a key factor in our overall well-being during high school.”和下文“Let's make wise food choices and enjoy the benefits of a balanced diet.” I had never eaten an oyster (牡蛎). I feel greatly honored to be here __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Thanks for listening. Dear friends, I'm Li Hua. I feel greatly honored to be here to introduce a traditional Chinese food — yuanxiao, which is made of sticky rice powder with sweet fillings. Yuanxiao, or tangyuan, is the main food for the Lantern Festival. The sweet fillings stand for people's wish for happiness and the round shape is a symbol of reunion. Making yuanxiao is really a good way to create a harmonious family atmosphere. Ways of cooking yuanxiao vary from place to place. Generally, they are steamed, boiled or fried. Some are served dry with sugar, while others with soup. I hope the information above is of some help to you. If you want to know more details, please contact me. Welcome to China and I hope you will experience our food culture by yourself! Thanks for listening. Anna was a cleaner at a local bakery (面包店), a job she loved, which brought her a sense of purpose. Even though Anna was happy with her job, she had always wanted to bake tasty bread and cakes that would bring joy to people. However, fear of failure prevented her from trying it in person. One day, Anna's best friend, Julie, announced that she was starting a food vlog to show her cooking experiments. When Anna heard this, she felt a wave of admiration. “You should join me!” Julie suggested. “You have so many amazing ideas. We could do this together!” Anna hesitated, “But I'm not a baker, Julie. I've only ever done the cleaning for the bakery, and I'm frightened of making mistakes in front of an audience.” Julie comforted her, “Everyone makes mistakes, Anna! And the only way to get better is to try. This could be a great opportunity for you!” Anna couldn't shake her fears, but Julie's words stayed with her. Weeks passed, and as Julie's vlog gained popularity, Anna found herself wondering, “What if?” The idea of sharing her love for cooking with the world was attractive, but she couldn't forget criticism (批评) that started in her childhood — her father had always been tough on her, pushing her to achieve more. One evening, after finishing the work at the bakery, Anna found an old notebook by chance when tidying up her room. The notebook was filled with her recipes (食谱) and sketches. Looking through the pages, she felt a sense of joy. After a sleepless night, Anna made a decision. The next day, she came to Julie with a half-hearted smile. “OK. let's do it. I'll join you on your vlog.” Julie jumped with excitement, and they quickly set a date for their first video — making a signature cake recipe together. Anna spent days researching, practicing recipes, and watching cooking videos. On the day of filming, the kitchen was lively as Julie set up the camera.____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Anna took a deep breath, and slowly she nodded, “OK. Let's try again.” ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 参考范文: On the day of filming, the kitchen was lively as Julie set up the camera.Anna's hands trembled slightly as she measured the flour, her mind racing with doubts. Julie noticed her tension and gave her an encouraging wink. “Just pretend it's just us, like always,” she whispered. Then, Anna focused on the familiar motions — mixing batter, folding in ingredients — and soon, her nervousness faded. The cake went into the oven, filling the kitchen with a sweet, buttery aroma. When they pulled it out, golden and perfectly risen, Anna couldn't help but grin. The first video had gone well, but she still stumbled over her words when explaining steps. Anna took a deep breath, and slowly she nodded, “OK. Let's try again.”This time, she spoke more naturally, even joking about her early baking disasters. Viewers loved their chemistry, and comments poured in — many praising Anna's warmth and creativity. One message stood out: “Your passion shines through!” Reading it, Anna realized something: her father's voice no longer mattered as much as the joy she felt sharing her craft. The bakery's owner, impressed, even asked her to contribute weekly specials — finally, Anna was baking for others, just as she'd always dreamed.
