The transition sentence (过渡句):
A week later, I stand at the edge of one of the planet’s last untouched wildernesses — Hoh Xil, the “Third Pole” of the Earth, a remote sanctuary (庇护所) in western China. As a permitted visitor, I am staying in a reserve-arranged tent house, located on the edge open to humans.

Activity 1 Demonstrating
Read the first paragraph of the continuation. Please focus on the similarities between the original text and the continuation.
A Summer Where the Sun Never Sleeps
I wake up to the sound of the wind buffeting the cloth of my tent. Even though the sun is brightly shining, telling whether it is morning or night is impossible. I’m above the Arctic Circle, where in summer the sun never sets. Checking my watch, I see that it is 7:30 a.m. I leave my tent and walk over to the mountain edge. Spreading out before me, branches of the Rapa River flow through the valley below. I’m in the remote far north of Sweden in Sarek National Park, a place with no roads or towns.
A Morning Where the Sun Touches Ice
Stepping out of the tent, I can’t help but shiver. Even though it is summer, the air bites like winter, frost covering the grass. In the distance, the Kunlun Mountains standing tall reveal peaks turning pink in the sun, snow shining like scattered silver. My breath turns into white mist, floating up like little clouds and vanishing quickly. Silence fills the air, broken only by the faint sound of ice. Gripping my coat tighter, I smile: this is how mornings start in Hoh Xil’s, where hidden sounds echo through the cold and bright air.
