Passage 1
(24-25高二下·广东茂名·期中)In the peaceful village of Greenfield, surrounded with rolling hills, lived two curious and adventurous twins, Lily and Leo. At the age of eleven, the inseparable twins were always seeking new and exciting adventures.
One morning, Mr. Thompson, their favorite teacher, was introducing volunteer work. Leo suddenly caught sight of the hill behind the schoolyard and was instantly inspired with the idea of climbing to the top.
“Lily,” whispered Leo, “Wouldn’t it be amazing if we climbed to the top of that hill today? It’s said to hold breathtaking views of our lovely village.” Hearing that, Lily’s face lit up with excitement, her heart filled with eagerness. “Oh, Leo, that sounds fantastic!”
With determination in their hearts, the twins worked out a plan. As they walked along the path, they noticed colorful trash scattered about, which ruined the natural beauty surrounding them.
A brilliant idea flashed into Lily’s mind. “Why don’t we pick up the litter along the way? We could clean up our beloved countryside.”
Excited by the idea, the twins eagerly collected the scattered items. As they reached the foot of the hill, their bags heavy with the collected waste, they came across a recycling center. With excitement, they exchanged their findings for shiny coins. With newfound treasures in their pockets, they climbed up the hill.
When they reached the top, they were greeted by a breathtaking view of Greenfield. “It’s so beautiful!” Leo burst out. “We must share our adventure with Mr. Thompson and our classmates!”

Passage 2
(24-25高二下·广东·期中)That afternoon, Anay was very happy as he was going to his hometown after being away for about a year. He had to board the train scheduled to leave at 7 pm, so he planned to leave his office at 5 pm. However, he, being on a long leave, had to complete a lot of pending (待定的) tasks in the office, which went well beyond 5 pm. By the time he left for the railway station, it was already 6 pm. In case of missing the train, Ana y immediately boarded a rickshaw (人力三轮车). That was when he encountered Jimmy.
“Will you please drive as fast as you can to the railway station? I have to catch the train that leaves in an hour,” Anay asked. “Don’t worry, sir. We’ll be there on time.” Jimmy’s words calmed him. After that, they talked. “... Do you know sir, according to the law, Rs.10 (10卢比) should be charged for every piece of luggage going over the size of 60cm x 40cm or 14kg?” Anay looked at his luggage—two big bags and a small computer bag, with his computer in it. That meant he would have to pay Rs.20 extra.
Jimmy continued, “But sir, I’ll never charge for luggage. In this way, people will remember me and contact me when they need a rickshaw.” Anay now realized that this young man was not a regular rickshaw driver. Out of curiosity, he asked, “What’s your educational background?” “A Bachelor’s degree in commerce (商务学士学位),” Jimmy replied. Anay was visibly shocked. Jimmy added, “Sir, I don’t feel ashamed of my job. I think it’s better that I’ve learned a great deal than none at all. After graduation, I haven’t found a suitable job. To feed myself, I landed this job, but after work, I take an evening course to improve knowledge of my major in case there’s any opportunity.” Anay related to Jimmy and couldn’t help thinking about his early job-seeking experiences.
Soon, they reached the destination. Anay took out a 100-rupee note from his wallet, handed it to Jimmy and walked away hurriedly, carrying his two big bags.
Paragraph 1:
However, as Anay was entering the station, he found Jimmy running towards him with a small bag.

Passage 3
(24-25高二下·广东珠海·期中)It was a typical spring morning in Hangzhou, China. The sun was barely up, and the air was still cool from the previous night’s rain. Wang Haoyu, a high school student, had planned an early morning basketball game with his friend Xiao Mo. The two had been looking forward to this game all week, and nothing was going to stop them from playing, not even the wet ground.
As they arrived at the basketball court, the dew y grass glistened in the early morning light. The air was filled with the sound of chirping birds, and the scent of blooming flowers. However, the ground was still wet and slippery. Haoyu suggested they be careful as they played, and they both agreed to take extra care.
Then they started to play, the ball bouncing back and forth as they took turns to score. The game soon became more and more intense, with both Haoyu and Xiao Mo giving it their all. However, as the clock approached 6:45 am, something went wrong. Xiao Mo was attempting a difficult shot when suddenly he lost his balance and slipped on the wet surface. His body and head hit the ground hard, and he immediately became unconscious. His face went all pale.
Haoyu panicked and for a while he was unsure of what to do. Then he realized he should call for help. He shouted at the top of his lungs, “Quick, call 120! My friend has fainted (晕)!” Fortunately, a passer-by heard his cry and immediately dialed the number.
As they were waiting for the ambulance, time seemed to slow down. The fear of losing his friend seized Haoyu, and he felt helpless as he watched Xiao Mo lying motionless on the ground. But then, a thought crossed his mind. He remembered the first aid video he had watched in school just a few weeks ago, which included CPR training. Haoyu knew that every second counted and that he needed to act fast.

Passage 4
(24-25高二下·广东佛山·期中)Keller’s Lacrosse (曲棍球) Moment of Glory
In the tense, pulsating atmosphere of the deciding lacrosse game, Keller stood firmly in the center of the midfield, a rock for his team. His dark hair, slick with sweat, clung stubbornly to his forehead, and his piercing eyes darted across the green turf, searching for the slightest chink in the opponent’s armor. His stick, a weapon of precision, hovered eagerly, waiting for a loose ball to swoop in on.
Suddenly, the ball popped out of the goalkeeper’s stick, and Keller sprung forward, his muscles coiled like a spring. But as his stick lunged for the ball, it soared too high, missing its target by the narrowest of margins. He felt the sting of disappointment, his heart sinking as he cursed silently. A costly mistake, he knew, in this crucial match.
On his second attempt, an opposing midfielder darted in, nimble and quick, stealing the ball from Keller’s grasp. The whistle pierced the air, signaling the end of the play, and Keller slumped, shoulders sagging. He felt the heaviness of his team’s silent disappointment, a weight that seemed to crush his spirit.
After the match, Keller sat alone on the bench, his head bowed in contemplation. The coach approached him slowly, his face a mask of sympathy, yet his eyes burned with a fiery resolve. “Keller,” he said, voice stern yet kind, “you’re a gifted player, no doubt. But remember, in lacrosse, the greatest warriors are those who can adapt. The ball doesn’t always come to your stick. Sometimes, the best pass is the one made with your feet, or even a nod of your head.”

Passage 5
(24-25高二下广东广雅中学·期中)Leaving the busy and noisy store, I hurried back to my car, my mind preoccupied with the tasks awaiting me at home. However, as I reached for my car keys in my pocket, a sinking feeling washed over me — I had locked both my keys and cell phone inside the vehicle. Frustration surged through my veins. Feeling extremely annoyed, I couldn’t help but let out a string of choice words, punctuated by a swift kick to the tire.
Just then, a teenager on his bicycle happened to pass by, his eyes catching my display of frustration. Sensing an opportunity to lend a hand, he pulled over and asked, “What’s wrong?”
I took a deep breath, grateful for a sympathetic ear, and explained my situation. “I’ve managed to lock my keys and cell phone inside the car,” I sighed. “My wife must be really worried as I should have been home by now.” “Even if I could call my wife, she wouldn’t be able to bring me her car key since this is our only vehicle.”
Without hesitation, the teenager extended his hand, offering me his cell phone. “Here, you can use mine to call your wife,” he said, his youthful voice brimming with sincerity.
I accepted his offer gratefully, dialing my wife’s number and relaying the situation to her. I could sense her concern on the other end of the line, but she remained calm and asked for my exact position.
“I’ll need to see if I can borrow any of our neighbours’ cars.” “I’ve thought about this plan, but most of them must be in town for the carnival today.” I sighed. But she just reassured me that she would find the extra key and find a way to get here as soon as possible.
As I ended the call, I expressed my gratitude to the teenager, but a new worry crept into my mind. “It’s a seven-mile trip for my wife,” I said, “even if she could borrow a car, she hasn’t driven for long and she’s pregnant.” The teenager asked, “Did you just say you live in the Medway street? My school is nearby so I’m quite familiar with the route. Just tell your wife I’m coming to get the key.” “But that’s seven miles! It’ll take you at least an hour round trip.”

Passage 1
(24-25高二下·广东广州·期中)When I was in middle school, my family moved to Seattle, where my parents started their new business — a small grocery store downstairs my house. As a girl of shy and reserved (寡言少语的) nature, I had to take a fresh start to fit into the sophisticated (复杂的) city life.
One sunny day, my school announced an exciting event, a talent show for the local food bank. Students were encouraged to showcase their unique talents in front of the public in the city hall on National Day. A buzz of excitement filled the school as everyone began preparing for the big day. Deep down, I felt a spark of curiosity and a desire to participate. However, my self-doubt held me back, “I don’t have any special skills to share.”
Days turned into weeks, and the talent show drew closer. I couldn’t shake the upsetting feeling until one day Emma, one of the most popular girls in my class, came to me while I was helping in the grocery store after class. “How about singing together in the talent show?” She grinned, “I heard you singing a tune, along the way back home. I can’t help following you here.” Gosh, I couldn’t believe my ears. Emma, with personality and popularity, acknowledged my little talent. Since Emma had the world’s prettiest voice, I felt like being favoured by fortune.
Emma and I started rehearsing (彩排) almost every single day after school. We brainstormed, exchanged ideas and rehearsed the scene. As the days rolled by, I was feeling pretty good about our act. But the day before the performance, Emma called that she had an acute stomachache and would not be in. I was completely knocked out by the news, feeling so helpless. It was impossible for me to stand on stage and sing by myself. “Sorry friend, you might have to go on stage by yourself,” Emma said, “But you certainly can do it your own. All you need to do is to be confident. I believe you can make it!” Hearing that, I determined to accomplish this performance perfectly, and I kept practicing hard on it the rest of the day.

Passage 2
(24-25高二下·广东深圳·期中)Mr. George had raised his grandson Alex alone since Alex’s parents passed away. With rough hands and a heart full of love, he’d fixed countless scraped (擦伤) knees and listened to Alex’s dreams with steady patience.
Now, as Alex threw his backpack onto the old sofa, Mr. George’s blue eyes followed him tiredly. “Emma’s dad made her a cool specially-made bike,” Alex complained, watching his grandfather repair his soccer socks with shaky hands. The old clay piggy bank between them held only a few coins, making soft sounds. Mr. George’s small pension (抚恤金) was just enough for basic food, and the sad look in his eyes when he said “I’ll ... try” made Alex’s chest hurt. Without another word, Alex rushed out, ignoring the reused calendar stuck behind the fridge, its pages marked with red circles.
One cold morning, as Alex took a shortcut along a path with classmates, he suddenly stopped. There was Mr. George, halfway inside a recycling dustbin, carefully picking up an old bicycle chain. His classmates started laughing. “Look at the waste collector!” Jake shouted. Jessica took photos with her phone. Alex felt terrible shame. His face turned red. “Stop making me feel bad!” he yelled angrily, pushing away Mr. George’s reaching hand — the same hand that had held him during his first unsteady bike rides.
Weeks of cold silence followed. Every morning, Alex found his lunchbox filled with extra sandwiches and snacks, but he never ate them. Every night, soft knocking noises came from the garage, but he wouldn’t check.
On his 17th birthday, Alex woke to find a shoebox wrapped in old pages. Inside lay a shiny metal bicycle bell, carved with small gears (齿轮), and a note. The note said, “Dear Alex, I’m sorry I couldn’t buy you the bike you wanted. I started collecting recyclables to save up, but I never meant to embarrass you. You’re the most precious thing in my life. Every ride needs a sound. This bell will ring when you’re ready to listen. Forgive my old-fashioned ways.” After seeing the words, Alex was reduced to tears, with a stream of warmth and regret across his body.

Passage 3
(24-25高二下·广东广州·期中)Cookies for Forgiveness
Last week, a U-Haul truck pulled up across the street, and a college student unloaded a Ping-Pong table onto his front lawn. To most, it might seem harmless, but to me, it was a trigger. In my town, a Ping-Pong table on a lawn isn’t just for games — it’s a beer-pong table, a symbol of late-night noise and chaos. Years ago, my husband and I lived near the university, surrounded by students who turned beer pong into a lifestyle. The thumping bass and laughter kept us awake night after night. We eventually moved to a quieter neighborhood, at great expense, to escape it.
So, when I saw that table, memories of those sleepless nights flooded back. Anger bubbled up inside me, hot and uncontrollable. I marched over, past the table, and knocked on the student’s door. I demanded he remove it, expecting him to apologize. Instead, he met my rage with defiance. “Who are you to tell me what to do?” he shot back. His words only fueled my fury. I yelled things I didn’t mean, my voice sharp with profanity (脏话). My husband, sensing trouble, pulled me away before things escalated further.
The rest of the day, I seethed (强忍怒火). But by morning, shame replaced anger. I shuddered as I replayed the confrontation in my mind. Why couldn’t I keep my cool? Why did I let something so trivial ignite me? I’ve always struggled with anger—it runs in my family—but I’ve worked hard to change. Therapy, meditation, journaling—I’ve tried them all. Yet, there I was, yelling at a stranger over a Ping-Pong table. I knew I had to make it right.
I turned to what I do best: baking. I pulled out a batch of frozen peanut butter chocolate chunk cookie dough I’d made weeks earlier. The dough balls were my secret weapon, ready to transform into warm, comforting cookies at a moment’s notice. As the cookies baked, the house filled with their sweet, buttery aroma. I let them cool, then arranged them on a plate, my hands trembling.

I walked across the street, past the offending table, and knocked on the student’s door.

Passage 2
(24-25高二下·广东深圳·期中)Nature, while beautiful, could also be unpredictable and merciless. But most importantly, we bear in mind that in the darkest times, there’s always a light at the end of the tunnel, just like Mrs. Evans’ cabin light.
One bright summer day, my friend Peter and I decided to take an adventure into the unexplored paths of the Great Smoky Mountains. Blessed with rich biodiversity and fascinating landscapes, the national park seemed a perfect get-away. Little did we know that our casual (随意的) hike would soon turn into an unexpected personal incident, forever kept in our memories.
We set off early in the morning, equipped with our backpacks and a map that was supposed to guide us through the winding paths. The sun was up, casting long shadows on the forest floor as we set off on our journey. We trekked (艰难行走), laughed, and wondered at the beauty of nature around us.
As we trekked through the thick forests, taking in the natural wonders around us, we couldn’t help but feel a sense of adventure coursing through our body. The path was rough and rocky, but we persisted through the challenging landscape.
Midway through our exploration, we came upon a breathtaking waterfall, its shining water’s pouring down the rocks in a quiet and peaceful melody. We sat down by the water’s edge, taking a moment to get lost in the beauty of nature. The cool mist from the waterfall surrounded us, and we felt refreshed and energetic.
As the day went on, we trekked deeper into the wilderness, eager to explore every corner of this natural paradise. We were so absorbed in the beauty of nature that we just didn’t notice our way and it seemed that we could not find the way back to the familiar part of the forest.
Frightened, we hurried to find our way back but the thick forests and winding paths only served to confuse us further. We tried to remember any possible signs that might lead us back. No sooner had we celebrated our return to the clear paths than something worse happened.

Passage 1
(24-25高二下·广东省江门市新会第二中学·期中)My parents came to the US from India in the 1960s, along with other immigrants from India. Back then, there were few Indians anywhere around the US. My father came to Kansas, where he would get his Ph.D.Six months later, my mother came with the three of us kids — my sister, my brother, and me. We were just six, five and three years old then.
It was the very first winter when we were in Kansas. It was so cold, but we didn’t have heavy coats or warm clothes. We didn’t have a concept of how cold it really could be in the Midwest, and there was a new surprise every day. We didn’t have a car or anything like that, and my dad didn’t have a US driver’s license. But anyway, my father was studying for his Ph.D., and he would walk up and down a big hill to and from the campus on a regular basis.
Since I was three years old, I didn’t go to school, but my sister and brother were in school. My father had to walk down the big hill to take them to school every day and then walk back up the hill to go to university. After about three weeks of living like this, a woman called Valerie, whose son John was in the same class as my brother, started noticing them. On a very cold snowy morning, when they went to school as usual,Valerie passed by. She pulled up and said, “I see you on the way every day. Don’t you feel cold without coats?”My father responded,“We didn’t expect the weather would be so cold in Kansas.”Valerie said,“Maybe I can take your daughter and son to school. (23-24高二下·广东省湛江市第二十一中学·期中)Maya and her older brother Marcus lived with their grandma. Their parents, busy with work in another city, could only return home during the winter holiday. Grandma was good at paper-cutting, and she decorated the whole room with pretty shapes of animals and flowers, devoting herself to keeping Maya and Marcus happy. However, despite her grandmother’s love, Maya often felt deep frustration, complaining why she couldn’t stay with her parents.
As the days grew shorter and colder, Maya’s excitement came back. She knew that with the arrival of snow, the winter holiday would come, as well as the return of her parents. One day, the weather forecast predicted snow during daytime, so Maya eagerly rose from bed, pressing her nose against the window, and waiting for the first pretty snowflake to drop from the sky.
However, as it was getting late, Maya’s excitement turned into disappointment. Sensing her sadness, grandma comforted her, “Be patient, dear. The snow will come soon.” Marcus, too, tried to be an older brother, reminding Maya that the snow could fall at night. Yet, despite their efforts, Maya remained upset. Night fell and not a single snowflake was in sight. Sadly, Maya went to bed without eating anything, going to her dreams with tears in her eyes.

(24-25高二下·广东省江门市培英高级中学·期中)Ashley ran home from school. Thanksgiving meant four days off. Driving from Ohio to Minnesot a took one day, so she could spend two whole days with Emily. Ashley hadn’t seen Emily for five months — not since Ashley had moved to Ohio. It felt like forever.
Over the phone, Emily talked a lot about a girl named Isabella. Was Isabella Emily’s new best friend? No, Ashley decided. She couldn’t be. Only Ashley knew how to make Emily’s favorite dessert — strawberry-apple pie.
Ashley couldn’t wait to get back to Minnesota. She ran into the living room. “Can I start packing the car? We said we’d leave by 4:00.”
Mom glanced up from her computer. “There’s a good chance of snow.”
“The forecast must be wrong. I promised Emily I’d come,” Ashley said.
Mom pushed her chair back and sighed, “We’ll hope for good weather but we’ll stop if it snows.”
“I’ll keep my fingers crossed,” Ashley said, “Nothing will go wrong.”
But everything did go wrong. Snow began to fall. Little flakes at first, then big clumps. The freeway had no place to stop. The windshield wipers (雨刷器) could hardly keep up. Mom pulled into a rest area. “We’ll stay here until the roads are clear.”
“It’s Thanksgiving. I brought Emily’s favorite pie. She’s counting on me.” Ashley felt her tears welling up in the eyes.
Mom squeezed (攥紧) Ashley’s hand. “I’m sorry, sweetie. We can eat pie tomorrow.”
“Where will we stay?”
Mum replied, “The rest stop has a hall. We can sleep on the floor. Grab your blanket and pillow. It’ll be fun, like camping.”
Ashley hurried out of the car and followed close behind Mom. They stumbled into the hall.Ashley stamped her feet, and snow slipped onto the floor. In the middle of the hall, a man sat between two little boys on a blanket. A girl sat with her parents on another blanket next to them.

Passage 1
(24-25高二下·广东省广州市第十七中学·期中)As a young boy, I was always a troublemaker and up to no good. I liked playing tricks and enjoyed treating animals in an unfriendly way, like running after cats crazily, making them scared at the sight of me. Besides, I often used a handmade catapult (弹弓) to shoot at birds on the trees.
All this did afford me indescribable pleasure but also got me unkind stares and blames from people around. My parents disapproved of my behavior and were constantly criticizing me for the tricks I played. I was even given a good beating from my father from time to time. Nevertheless, I ignored their warnings and did not correct my ways until an incident occurred.
One summer noon when I was eight, I was alone at home and just finished lunch. Feeling very hot and bored, I decided to hang around the neighborhood, holding my trusty catapult.
Soon, I came to Mr Smith’s house. His pet dog, big and strong, was tied to a post outside his house, lying in the shade lazily. Looking around, I found that no one was in sight. I decided to make good use of my catapult to play tricks on the massive dog. Picking up a few small stones from the ground, I aimed at the dog and fired them one by one. Several stones hit the poor dog and it began to bark (吠) loudly in pain and jump up and down. But I felt so fun that I didn’t stop doing so. Eventually, the dog’s anger was fueled and it barked wildly at me while struggling to break away from the rope. Not realizing anything wrong with my crazy behavior, I was just laughing happily.
Suddenly, the rope that tied the dog loosened and the big dog got free from its bonds. In no time, with a few powerful steps the dog was on me. Its sharp teeth sank into my leg. I screamed with pain and fright and fell to the ground, shouting out for help.

Passage 2
(24-25高二下·广东省肇庆市端州中学·期中)I lay on my bed, legs leaning against the wall, desperately wishing my mother would call. But I remembered the last time I'd seen her, right before the train for Providence pulled out of the station, “You know how expensive it is to call,” she said, then hugged me tight and said good- bye.
This was my first birthday away from home. I missed my mom, missed my sister, and most certainly missed the special pound cake my mother always made for my birthday. Since getting to college that year, I would watch jealously as the other freshmen received care packages from their parents on their birthdays--and even on ordinary days. Big boxes containing summer slacks and blouses, packages of M&M's and Snickers , things they needed and things they didn't. Instead of feeling thrilled about my upcoming eighteenth birthday, I felt empty. I wished my mom would send me something, too, but I knew that she couldn’t afford presents or the postage. She had done her best with my sister and me--raising us by herself. The simple truth was there just was never enough money.
But that didn’t stop her from filling us with dreams. “You can be anything you want to be,” she would tell us. “Politicians, dancers, writers -- you just have to work for it; you have to get an education.”
Thanks to my mom's sacrifices and big dreams, I’d made it to the Ivy League: Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island.
As I was recalling these things, my roommate joined me on the bed. “Hey. After we study, let's buy ice cream and cake.” I nodded, closed my eyes, and imagined the cake Mom would have made. Mmm. I could see the golden yellow of each of the twelve eggs, and I could almost smell the vanilla(香草) filling the house while the cake baked.

Passage 3
(2022·新高考全国Ⅰ卷·高考真题)It was the day of the big cross-country run. Students from seven different primary schools in and around the small town were warming up and walking the route(路线)through thick evergreen forest.
I looked around and finally spotted David, who was standing by himself off to the side by a fence. He was small for ten years old. His usual big toothy smile was absent today. I walked over and asked him why he wasn’t with the other children. He hesitated and then said he had decided not to run.
What was wrong? He had worked so hard for this event!
I quickly searched the crowd for the school’s coach and asked him what had happened. “I was afraid that kids from other schools would laugh at him,” he explained uncomfortably. “I gave him the choice to run or not, and let him decide.”
I bit back my frustration(懊恼). I knew the coach meant well—he thought he was doing the right thing. After making sure that David could run if he wanted, I turned to find him coming towards me, his small body rocking from side to side as he swung his feet forward.
David had a brain disease which prevented him from walking or running like other children, but at school his classmates thought of him as a regular kid. He always participated to the best of his ability in whatever they were doing. That was why none of the children thought it unusual that David had decided to join the cross-country team. It just took him longer—that’s all. David had not missed a single practice, and although he always finished his run long after the other children, he did always finish. As a special education teacher at the school, I was familiar with the challenges David faced and was proud of his strong determination.

Passage 4
(24-25高二下·广东省江门市新会第一中学·期中)Carl, my friend, always wore a smile on his face. Unfortunately, he suffered from a rare brain disease. One day I noticed that he didn’t come to school.
Two days later, my teacher - Mrs. Carina said Carl was in hospital again. He needed to have an operation. Feeling sad, I spent the rest of the day thinking about how frightened, helpless and hopeless Carl must feel, facing such a big challenge. How sad Carl’s parents would be! I was so sorry for Carl, and I wanted to do something for him.
Another friend told me that Carl loved pandas. I remembered that my brother had recently taught me how to make a toy panda. Right then, I decided to make Carl a toy panda for luck and hope. I also made a card for Carl. I told him that he always had a place in my heart and that I hoped that he would recover quickly. The next day after school, I gave the toy panda and the card to my teacher, for she was going to visit Carl at the hospital. She was surprised and thanked me on behalf of (代表) Carl’s family.
One day, as I passed our meeting room, I saw many people sitting inside. I took a closer look and was amazed. There were almost all of my teachers, and a woman I had never seen before. Then one of the teachers came out and invited me to go in. He told me that the woman was Carl’s mom and that she was asking about me.

Passage 1
(24-25高二下·广东省茂名市化州市·期中)As a teacher, I’ve always believed in the importance of teaching my students more than just academics. However, I was growing increasingly concerned about a new problem: plastic waste. I often noticed my students casually throwing away plastic bottles and wrapper around the school grounds. It pained me to see the beautiful campus littered, and I knew that lecturing them about environmental responsibility wasn’t enough. They needed to see and feel the impact firsthand.
One Friday afternoon, after witnessing another pile of plastic waste near the playground, I decided to take action. I called a meeting with my class and shared my concerns. “This Saturday,” I announced, “we’re going on a field trip, but it won’t be to the usual places. We’re going to spend a day collecting rubbish in the city. "
The students’ reactions were mixed. Complaints erupted immediately. “Why do we have to pick up rubbish? Isn’t this someone else’s job?” Sofia shouted. Emily added, “It’s going to be so hot this weekend! Do we really have to?”
I took a deep breath and tried to inspire them. “Think about it,” I said, “each bottle or wrapper you pick up can be recycled into something useful. Moreover, we’re helping to keep our city clean. It’s a good way to show respect for our community and our planet, isn’t it?”
I saw a few doubtful faces, but also some nods. Sofia hesitated before saying, “Well, I guess it does sound important.”
On Saturday morning, the students gathered at the school, equipped with gloves and rubbish bags. There were still some complaints about the heat and the task ahead as we boarded the bus. The city center, usually active, awaited us with its unfortunate blanket of litter.
Upon arrival, I split them into small groups and assigned each a section of the streets to clean. The students looked around, their faces tightening into frowns as they saw rubbish scattered in every direction. “This is a lot more than I thought,” Emily sighed, looking at the piles of rubbish.

【答案】
The next morning, Lily and Leo returned to school, eager to meet Mr. Thompson. The moment they saw Mr. Thompson, they excitedly told him what they had done. Mr. Thompson listened carefully and praised them satisfiedly. Then an idea hit him. Mr. Thompson gathered the class together and asked mysteriously, “Would you like to experience an adventure and at the same time bring cleanliness to the village as a volunteer?” Each student was excited with wide eyes, hands raising high, shouting, “Me! Me!”
The following weekend, the entire class started to clean up their lovely village. They happily ran up the hill with bags of garbage in their hands and competed to see whose bag could be full first. As they worked, Mr. Thompson kept reminding the students to be safe, ensuring everyone was careful while they cleaned. Soon, they were back down the hill, dragging their bags full of trash. Mr. Thompson smiled proudly and praised them, “You are not only little adventurers but also little guardians of the environment! Your efforts make a big difference in keeping our village beautiful and clean.”

Feeling grateful, he added, “Can I have your phone number?” Jimmy smiled shyly and gave Anay his number. Anay saved it, thinking that this young man deserved a chance.
A month later, Anay sent a message to Jimmy, asking him to take an interview. When the big day finally came, Jimmy surprisingly found that Anay was one of the interviewers, his face glowing with excitement and hope. Jimmy confidently shared his academic knowledge and work experiences, which left a deep impression on the interviewers. A week later, Anay sent Jimmy a job offer.

The coach’s words resonated with Keller. He nodded, a spark of determination igniting in his eyes. The next game, Keller was a different player. He moved with a newfound confidence, always ready to spring into action. And when the moment came, he intercepted an opposing pass with a deft swipe of his stick. The ball fell to the ground, and players converged from all sides. But Keller was ready. His football instincts took over, and he booted the ball with a powerful kick, sending it soaring into an empty space on the field. His teammates cheered as they sprinted towards the ball, and soon after, the whistle blew — a goal for the Dolphins!
Para2:
Keller stood tall, a grin of satisfaction spreading across his face. He’d saved the game with a move that he never would have thought possible in lacrosse. But now, he knew he had the potential to shine in both sports — as long as he remained willing to adapt and embrace new challenges.

【答案】
The teenager simply smiled, with a determined look on his face. “Don’t worry about it. I’ll go and bring her key myself.” I was taken aback by his selflessness. Gratitude welled up within me, and I could only manage a heartfelt “Thank you.” With that, the teenager pedaled away, his figure growing smaller in the distance. An hour passed. Filled with restless anticipation, I saw him approaching. In his outstretched hand, he held the salvation of my locked car—the spare key. Relief washed over me as I took it from him, marveling at his firm commitment to helping a stranger in need.
Deeply moved, I reached into my pocket, eager to offer him some money. But as I extended the money towards him, he shook his head, refusing any reward. “Let’s just say I needed the exercise,” he said with a mischievous grin, his eyes sparkling with youthful energy. With a nod of gratitude, I bid him farewell as he rode off into the sunset. As I drove away in my newly unlocked car, I couldn’t help but reflect on the unexpected encounter. The memory of the selfless teenager’s seven-mile journey would forever be engraved in my mind, serving as a reminder to always be ready to lend a hand to those in need.

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】One possible version:
Alex rushed outside and saw the special bike made from used metal against the fence. The handlebars shone brightly, showing how carefully his grandfather had polished them. Eager to thank Mr. George, he turned towards the house. But through the kitchen window, he froze. His grandfather sat at the table, one hand bandaged, struggling to take bites of a sandwich, with a bottle of painkillers nearby. Alex’s throat tightened. All this time, his anger had blinded him to the pain his grandfather endured — all for him. He knew he had to make things right.
That very night, Mr. George’s serious coughs woke Alex. The old man lay pale and weak in bed. Without a moment’s delay, Alex helped him onto the bike. As they rode to the hospital, the bicycle bell rang softly, like a sweet song. At the hospital and in the days that followed, Alex took good care of his grandfather, cooking meals and chatting with him. The scrap-metal bike, once a source of embarrassment, now stood as a symbol of their love — proving that the most precious gifts are those born from sacrifice and heart.

注意:(1)续写词数应为100词左右;(2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
I walked across the street, past the offending table, and knocked on the student’s door.

【答案】
I walked across the street, past the offending table, and knocked on the student’s door. When he opened it, surprise flickered across his face. I took a deep breath and said, “I owe you an apology. My outburst yesterday was completely out of line, and I hope you can forgive me.” Holding out the plate of cookies, I added, “These are for you. I baked them as a peace offering.” He stared at the cookies, then at me, and a small smile spread across his lips. “I’m sorry too,” he replied. “I should have been more understanding.” As we shared the cookies on his front steps, chatting about our lives, the Ping-Pong table no longer seemed like a threat. Instead, it became a reminder that kindness and forgiveness can turn conflicts into connections.

“Lily,” whispered Leo. “Wouldn’t it be amazing if we climbed to the top of that hill today? It’s said to hold breathtaking views of our lovely village.” Hearing that, Lily’s lace lit up with excitement, her heart filled with eagerness. “Oh, Leo. that sounds fantastic!”.

Just when we were about to give up, a weak light appeared in the distance.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】
Suddenly, the weather took an unexpected turn. Dark clouds shrouded the sky, and a heavy downpour ensued. The comforting forest sounds quickly proved a terrifying symphony of thunder and wind. The trail that was once so clear became a muddy mess, making it impossible to go on. We tried to consult our map, but it was too late; we got lost in the wildness. Hours passing, our attempts to find the trail turned out to be in vain. With the cold creeping in, despair started to set in.
Just when we were about to give up, a weak light appeared in the distance. Curiosity overpowered our fear, and we decided to follow it. When we drew nearer, we saw a small log cabin, lights shining from its windows. Knocking on the door, an elderly woman, Mrs. Evans, welcomed us with a warm smile. She was a retired ranger who had chosen to live her twilight years in the heart of the mountains. She offered us shelter for the night, and the next morning, guided us back to the main trail. This incident strengthened our friendship and taught us the importance of resilience and hope. The experience was beyond expectation, terrifying, but enlightening all the same.

Would you like a ride?”

Hearing that, my dad nodded with great joy.

【答案】Paragraph 1:
Hearing that, my dad nodded with great joy. He said, “That would be great. That’s very kind of you.” Then my sister and brother got into Valerie’s car on the freezing cold day. After expressing their thanks to Valerie, they greeted John with a smile. After a while, a faint flush rose to my brother’s cheeks because of the warm wind in the car, and my sister had a broad smile on her face. Seeing that, Valerie decided to continue the act from then on.
Paragraph 2:
Later, Valerie and her family became so dear to my family. It just started with this small act of offering a ride, and afterwards the relationship between the two families gradually deepened. We kids have been close friends with John. Valerie and my mother also became very close. Valerie and her family tried to help us in other aspects, such as offering us warm clothes we were in urgent need of at that time. And my mother loved to cook Indian food for Valerie’s family. We all believed that our friendship would last forever.

【答案】
To cheer Maya up, grandma and Marcus decided to make snowflakes themselves. Grandma immediately devoted herself to paper-cutting, making each paper in her hands then become elegant and delicate snowflakes. At the same time, Marcus went to great length to learn how to make snowflake by following grandma’s technique. One hour later, all kinds of snowflakes piled up like a hill on the table. Then Marcus stuck them on the windows and pictured how excited Maya would be at the sight of them. The next day, Maya woke up alone, spotting something unusual on the glass.
Maya rushed to the windows, and found snowflakes of all shapes and sizes on the glass. At that moment, Maya understood what had happened last night. Despite the fact that outside fell no snow still, these artificial snowflakes proved to be the best snow in the winter. In the daylight, they seemed as if they had truly dropped from the sky, which made Maya reconsider her negative emotions she had expressed. Turning back, she rested her eyes on Marcus and grandma who were still asleep. At once she acknowledged that it was them who always accompanied her during her parents’ absence.

Passage 3
“Hello,” said Mom. “Hi,” said the girl.
“Welcome. Come to share our Thanksgiving dinner,” said the father of the two young boys. He pulled sandwiches out of a cooler and set them on the blanket.

“Beef soup and stuffed dumplings,” the girl pointed to their food on the blanket, inviting them to join. Watching the food, Ashley felt her stomach rumbling and swallowed hard. The offers from them were kind, and Ashley felt a sense of gratitude. Exchanging knowing glances, she and Mom accepted the invitation to share Thanksgiving dinner with this unexpected group of strangers. “We'll buy water and sodas from the vending machine.” the girl smiled at Ashley. “Now all we need is dessert. Where can we get it?” the girl sighed.
Ashley thought about Emily's strawberry-apple pie in the car. “Mom, do you think Emily would be OK if I shared the pie today?” Ashley whispered to Mum. Mum softly cupped Ashley's confused face in her hands. “I think Emily would understand, honey. Best friends always listen. ” Ashley nodded, feeling a little better. She said to the girl, “We have a pie.” The girl's eyes lit up. “Pie? That sounds amazing!” Feathery flakes of snow dancing in the wind, Ashley and Mum fetched the pie and they enjoyed the special Thanksgiving dinner together with these unexpected kind strangers.

【答案】One possible version:
Luckily, my miserable shouts caught Mr Smith's attention. He dashed out of the house and freed the dog's teeth from my leg. Having caged the dog, Mr Smith rushed me to the clinic, where the doctor gave me an injection and dressed the wound carefully. On the way back home, I tearfully told Mr Smith the whole story. Not criticizing me, he looked me in the eye and said lovingly, “Animals are our friends that need our care and love and will treat us well if treated well".
His words left me ashamed and I decided to make a change. Instead of playing tricks on helpless animals, I did what I could to take care of them. With my father's help, I became a volunteer in our local animal shelter, feeding or walking animals. I even set aside my pocket money to contribute to charity which helps save homeless animals. Once a troublemaker, later a caregiver, I gradually won people's praise and respect I hadn't experienced before. Most importantly, never did I feel so rewarded and honored for what I did for animals.

Paragraph 1:
As I daydreamed, there was a knock on the door. My roommate opened it to find a deliveryman asking for me. He handed her a large box, which she carefully placed on the desk near my bed. “Open it”. I did, and inside was a vanilla cake with chocolate frosting. In icing were the words: “Happy Birthday, Sande! Love, Mom.” I was filled with excitement, as if Mom were right there hugging me close.
Paragraph 2:
How had she managed to afford it? I felt as if I were back at home with her, safe and secure while she sang and told me how much she loved having me in her life. I ran out to the hall and knocked on my dormmates’ doors. “Birthday cake,” I called. I cut cake for the students gathering in my room and watched their faces as they ate, because I didn't need to eat to feel both full and rich inside.

【答案】
We sat down next to each other, but David wouldn’t look at me. I said gently and quietly, “No one can change your mind, except yourself. If you desire to challenge yourself, there is nothing to do with others’ thoughts.” He sat still with a deep breath. “You have a full preparation before this event, which is the most important reason why you show up here”, I added with a sincere tone. Hearing my words, David turned to me tremblingly with tears spilling out of his eyes and expressed he had made a firm determination to finish the cross-country run. His coach heard what David said and gave me a look—the kind that was more determined than anyone else’s.
I watched as David moved up to the starting line with the other runners. The race started. It seemed that the runway was extremely long for young children, not to mention a child with a brain disease. David insisted on running as if he had forgotten all his weaknesses, though he was tripped over within the a few kilometers. It didn’t take long before he picked himself up again and continued his mission. Classmates all appeared on the racing track, cheering for him. “Come on! You can make it! We are proud of you!” they shouted enthusiastically. To everyone’s joy, he reached the final line and ranked the 20th. It was no more important whether he won the first place or not. It was his brave heart and strong faith that could make something unusual happen finally.

I called on my students to start working. “Come on, everybody! We can do this. Let’s show others what we are capable of. Imagine the difference we can make together!” I encouraged them. Reluctantly, they began to move, picking up cans, bottles, and wrappers. But gradually, they started working together, sharing stories, and even laughing at the occasional odd items they found. Despite the hard work and the hot sun, the students found joy in seeing the streets transform in front of their eyes. “Hey, we’re actually making a difference,” Emily remarked, her bag now half-full. “This place looks better already.”
By the end of the day, the students were tired but proud of their efforts. They had collected a significant amount of rubbish, and the streets looked noticeably cleaner. On the bus ride back, the students discussed ways to keep the school grounds clean and even proposed setting up recycling bins around the campus. Clearly this experience had a great impact on them. The once-reluctant students were now advocates for environmental responsibility, demonstrating their newfound respect for the community and the planet. This day of hard work had turned into a meaningful lesson they would carry with them for years to come.
