Villages in China have enjoyed their development in a digital (数字的) way in recent years. With the help of digital technology, villagers are living an easier and happier life.
Farming in the past was not an easy job. Farmers worked hard all year round. At the same time, they usually found it difficult to solve problems like plant diseases and pests (害虫). Now, there have been big changes in farming. For example, in Dayi County, Sichuan Province, AI machines help local farmers know when and how to fertilize (施肥于) fields and kill pests. In this way, they make farmers work more easily with less time and energy.
Thanks to the Internet, a new business called rural e-commerce (乡村电子商务) grows. Selling fresh fruit and vegetables to cities is faster. The business also helps villagers live a digital life. They can get many things done on different kinds of apps. They can also use drones to help with their farm work.
More visitors travel in beautiful villages because of digital technology. A good example is Huacheng Town, Guangdong Province. Visitors can know where to park their cars for free, when to book a ticket easily and what to buy online. They can also enjoy the view of nearly every part of the town by using VR.

At first, I could hardly see anything. After moving down through dark, narrow caves, my eyes were not used to the light. But when I could focus again, I stood in surprise.
“It’s a…sea,” I cried.
“Yes. Axel,” my uncle said, “and I shall give it my name, as I discovered it!”
There was a great lake or even an ocean. The shore was covered with small shells where the first living beings lived. Around this sea stood a huge rock wall.
I could see far over this great sea because of a strange light. Not sunlight, of course, as we were deep below the surface. With its bright, clear whiteness, the light must have been electric.
We kept quiet inside a cave that must have been several miles high.
Human words cannot describe the discoveries of those who have been deep into the earth. My imagination was powerless before such wonders. I felt surprised and quite scared at the same time. However, the soft salty air cheered me up. After many days in much narrower spaces, it was a great relief.
“Ready to walk a little now?” asked my uncle. “Yes, certainly.”
“Well, let us follow the shore then,” he said, and we began to explore.
Soon, in front of us appeared a forest with trees like umbrellas. “Mushrooms!” said my uncle. And he was right! There were mushrooms in their thousands, and each was at least nine metres high. How excellent they were!
“Wonderful!” cried my uncle. “Now look under your feet.”
I hadn’t noticed the many bones under our feet as we walked. Suddenly I thought, if once these monsters lived here, might some still walk through these dark forests? I looked around nervously, but we were the only living beings in this underworld. Thankfully!
Finally, we returned to the cave we had entered from, and I went to sleep with strange thoughts. Where did this underground sea end? Where would we go?
—Adapted from A Journey to the Centre of the Earth
26.Which of the following pictures can we add to the story?
A. B. C. D.
27.Which of the following describes things the same way as the underlined sentence?

28.What is the RIGHT order of the story?

Axel slept with strange thoughts.
Axel guessed that the light was electric.

And then we should take notes while reading. We should write down some important points and beautiful sentences in the book. In this way, we can improve our vocabulary.
4 It is a time when we can sum up (总结) all our ideas and turn them into a good essay. Some people say it is boring to do this, but I think it is fun. 5

七、阅读并回答问题(共5 小题;每小题2 分,满分10 分)
Brian Kane was a rubbish collector in Denver, Colorado. Eight hours a day, five days a week, fifty weeks a year, he rode on the back of a garbage truck. At each stop, he would run to the back of buildings, then pull heavy rubbish cans to the truck. Brian never complained.
Brian saw these hardships as opportunities to become strong and fit. His job was a training ground for his lifelong dream: to climb Mount Qomolangma. On his thirtieth birthday, Brian took a leave from his job and flew to Nepal to begin the long, difficult journey up Mount Qomolangma.
Brian first climbed to a basecamp(大本营). He planned to bring three oxygen containers(氧气罐) with him to the top. At 29,028 feet, it would be hard to survive(存活) without extra oxygen. Over the next two months, Brian climbed to 26,000 feet, to Camp Four—the last place to rest below the top of the mountain. But when Brian saw this camp, he fell to his knees. “Rubbish!” he cried. Nearly a thousand empty oxygen containers littered the camp area. Humans had turned this beautiful, far-away place into a big rubbish pile(堆). Brian was very sad. But with a strong determination(决心), he continued to follow his dream. Two days later he stood proudly on the top of Mount Qomolangma. He had reached the “roof of the world”!
Two days after this great achievement, Brian put a dozen empty oxygen containers in his pack and walked down the mountain. He smiled to himself as he realized that the work of a rubbish collector is great and never done.
