Hi, my name is Jack. I like my senior high school life. I’m a Grade 10 student. I’d like to talk about my courses. On Mondays, I have four classes in the morning and two classes in the afternoon. The first class is maths. I like maths. It’s easy. There are twenty three students in maths class, including a few exchange students who come from different nations. Chemistry is a bit boring. And there are twenty students in that class. The teacher likes to wear formal clothes and he looks nice. My English class is small. Our English teacher always gives great lectures and I think it’s fun to speak English. Science is the biggest class. There are thirty students in that class, twenty boys and ten girls. Science is very hard, though. Each class, we have a test. I don’t like that. The first class in the afternoon is physics and I like it best. The last class of the day is music, and we are active in that class.

My grandmother grew up in a world different from me. She experienced many things in her long life.
Though she never told stories, her stories were in the way she ate — she savored (品味) her food, cherished (珍惜) it. Often she would be the first to sit at the dinner table, and the last to leave. Food had been really scarce (缺乏) when she grew up.
Her stories were in the way she handed me lucky money. From a young age, my grandmother was brought up to understand the importance of hard work and the necessary of saving. Every Chinese New Year, I would be handed, or sent, a small red envelope that contained money, but never more than twenty dollars. When I was young , I didn’t understand why my grandmother gave me such a small amount of money. As I grew older, I realized that she wasn’t teaching me about money, but about tradition and hard work and family. The money was insignificant. I would probably spend it on any toy that I would lose soon after; it was the meaning behind her gift that mattered. It was her saying, “ I love you; I am your family and I want you to work hard as your family has before you.”
My grandmother’s stories were lessons. But they were never told in words. From the time that I was very young, up until she could barely remember my name, I remember her calling me “good girl”. Those two little words, in the course of my growing up, were a constant reminder that I was still so young, and still had so far to go.
Now my grandmother is gone, but I see her every day. I see her in the women around me and in the mirror. She lives with me, inside me, and in the legacies(遗产)that I will create. And I know she would be proud.

25.What did the author learn from the way her grandmother gave her lucky money?
A.Her grandmother didn’t have much money.
B.Her grandmother preferred boys to girls.
C.It was a shame to accept others’ money.
D.It was important for her to work hard.
26.What did the author realize hearing her grandmother call her “good girl” ?
A.She was really a good girl.
B.She needed to continually improve herself.
C.She should be proud of her manners and behaviors.
D.She was always a good girl in her grandmother’s eyes.
27.What can we know about the author’s grandmother after reading the passage?
A.She loved telling stories.
B.She had never worked in her life.
C.She set a great example for the author.
D.She was a mean woman with old-fashioned values.
由第二段“she savored (品味) her food, cherished (珍惜)it. Often she would be the first to sit at the dinner table, and the last to leave.”
由第三段“As I grew older, I realized that she wasn’t teaching me about money, but about tradition and hard work and family. It was her saying, “I love you; I am your family and I want you to work hard as your family has before you.”可知,随着年龄的增长,作者意识到祖母教给自己的不只是关于钱,而是关于传统、努力工作和对家庭的责任。祖母说:“我爱你;我是你的家人,我希望你像你们的家人一样努力工作。所以作者从她祖母给她压岁钱的方式中学到了自己要努力工作,这是很重要的。故选D项。
26.推理判断题。由倒数第二段“Those two little words, in the course of my growing up, were a constant reminder that I was still so young, and still had so far to go.”
由最后一段“Now my grandmother is gone, but I see her every day. I see her in the women around me and in the mirror. She lives with me, inside me, and in the legacies (遗产) that I will create.”

Using too much water or throwing rubbish into our rivers are clear ways that humans can put our water supply in danger, but we also produce bad effect to our water supply (供应) in less obvious ways. You may wonder how paving (铺砌) a road can lead to less usable fresh water. A major part of the water we use every day is groundwater. Groundwater does not come from lakes or rivers. It comes from underground. The more roads and parking lots we pave, the less water can flow into the ground to become groundwater.
Human activity is not responsible for all water shortages. Drier climates are of course more likely to have droughts (干旱) than areas with more rainfall, but in any case, good management can help to make sure there is enough water to meet our basic needs. Thinking about the way we use water every day can make a big difference, too. In the United States, a family of four can use 1.5 tons of water a day! This shows how much we depend on water to live, but there’s a lot we can do to lower the number.
To start with, use the same glass for your drinking water all day. Wash it only once a day. Run your dishwasher only when it is full. Help your parents replace any broken water taps in time. Use your washing machine once a week. You can even help to keep our water supply clean by avoiding littering used batteries.
28.Which of the following has unnoticed bad effect on groundwater?
A.Using too much water. B.Digging too many wells.
C.Paving a lot of parking lots. D.Throwing rubbish into rivers.
29.What can be inferred (推断) from the paragraph 2?
A.American families make good use of water.
B.It takes a lot of effort to meet our needs for water.
C.All water shortages are caused by human behavior.
D.Environment can be improved by planting more trees.
30.The last paragraph is written to ________.
A.tell us how to run a dishwasher
B.suggest the way to clean our glasses
C.introduce the steps to replace broken water taps
D.recommend some water-saving methods at home
31.What is the text mainly about?
A.Why paving roads influences our water.
B.Why droughts happen more in dry climates.
C.How can we get enough water to meet our needs.
D.How human activities impact our water supply.
根据第一段中的“You may wonder how paving (铺砌) a road can lead to less usable fresh water. A major part of the water we use every day is groundwater.Groundwater does not come from lakes or rivers. It comes from underground. The more roads and parking lots we pave, the less water can flow into the ground to become groundwater.(你可能会疑惑铺砌道路怎么会导致可用淡水减少。我们每天使用的水很大一部分是地下水。地下水并非来自湖泊或河流,而是源于地下。我们铺砌的道路和停车场越多,流入地下成为地下水的水就越少)”可知,铺砌大量停车场会对地下水产生不易察觉的不良影响。故选C项。
29.推理判断题。根据第二段“Human activity is not responsible for all water shortages. This shows how much we depend on water to live, but there’s a lot we can do to lower the number.(并非所有水资源短缺都是人类活动造成的。当然,干旱气候比降雨量多的地区更有可能发生干旱,但无论如何,良好的管理有助于确保有足够的水满足我们的基本需求。思考我们每天的用水方式,也能带来很大的改变。在美国,一个四口之家每天可以使用 1.5 吨水!这表明我们的生活多么依赖水,但我们有很多方法可以降低这个数字)”可推断,满足我们的用水需求需要付出很多努力。故选B项。
30.主旨大意题。根据最后一段中的“To start with, use the same glass for your drinking water all day. Wash it only once a day. Run your dishwasher only when it is full. Help your parents replace any broken water taps in time. Use your washing machine once a week. You can even help to keep our water supply clean by avoiding littering used batteries.(首先,一整天都用同一个杯子喝水。每天只洗一次杯子。只有当洗碗机装满时才运行。帮助父母及时更换任何损坏的水龙头。每周用一次洗衣机。你甚至可以通过不随意丢弃废旧电池来帮助保持我们的水资源供应清洁)”可知,最后一段旨在推荐一些家庭节水方法。故选D项。
31.主旨大意题。根据第一段中的“Using too much water or throwing rubbish into our rivers are clear ways that humans can put our water supply in danger, but we also produce bad effect to our water supply (供应) in less obvious ways.(用水过多或向河流扔垃圾是人类危害水资源供应的明显方式,但我们也以不太明显的方式对水资源供应产生不良影响)”、第二段中的 “Human activity is not responsible for all water shortages. Drier climates are of course more likely to have droughts (干旱) than areas with more rainfall, but in any case, good management can help to make sure there is enough water to meet our basic needs. Thinking about the way we use water every day can make a big difference, too. (并非所有水资源短缺都是人类活动造成的。当然,干旱气候比降雨量多的地区更有可能发生干旱,但无论如何,良好的管理有助于确保有足够的水满足我们的基本需求。思考我们每天的用水方式,也能带来很大的改变)”以及最后一段的节水建议可知,本文主要讲述人类活动如何影响水资源供应。故选D项。

Teenagers who spend more time on after-school activities and less than two hours of screen time after school are more mentally healthy, according to a study published in the journal Preventive Medicine.
The study used information collected from more than 28,000 seventh-grade Canadian students between 2014 and 2018. The students first answered questions about their usage of screen time after school, including how much time they spent watching TV or something else. Then, students reported how many days they had taken part in after-school activities such as sports or arts programmes. After that, researchers asked students to describe their state of mind. For example, when given a statement such as “I start most days thinking that I will have a good day”, they could choose to what level they agreed with it on a scale (等级).
Researchers said in the study some of the results were expected. Students with no after-school activities usually had high levels of screen time, for example. And they expected girls would score higher on negative indicators (消极指标)of mental health. as earlier research had found that they tended to have higher levels of anxiety compared to boys.
What was noteworthy, researchers say, is that even among students who took part in after-school activities, 46% still went beyond the recommended screen time of two hours. At the same time, 67% of students who didn’t take part in after-school activities also had more than two hours of screen time. Together, this suggests high screen time among teenagers generally.
“The findings suggest that after-school activities are valuable for the happy growing of teenagers,” the study said. “While past studies have proved the importance of after-school activities for social and academic development, the present study shows their importance for good mental health results.”
32.Which of the following came last when students took part in the new study?
A.Talking about their lifestyles.
B.Introducing their after-school activities.
C.Reporting their mental states on a scale.
D.Answering questions about screen time use.
33.What do the researchers find about teenage girls?
A.They often have higher levels of satisfaction.
B.Few of them take part in after-school activities.
C.Anxiety has become a serious problem among them.
D.Too much screen time may be more harmful to them.
34.What does the author want to show by using the numbers in paragraph 4?
A.Earlier findings about screen time are wrong.
B.High screen time is common among teenagers.
C.No after-school activities mean no screen time.
D.Screens attract teenagers more than after-school activities do.
35.Why are after-school activities so important according to the new study?
A.They are good for teenagers’ physical health.
B.They help to improve teenagers’ mental health.
C.They encourage teenagers’ social development.
D.They allow teenagers to become better learners.
根据第二段中“After that, researchers asked students to describe their state of mind. For example, when given a statement such as “I start most days thinking that I will have a good day”, they could choose to what level they agreed with it on a scale.(之后,研究人员让学生描述自己的心理状态。例如,当看到 “我开始新的一天时,大多会觉得这会是愉快的一天”这类表述时,学生可以在一个等级量表上选择自己对该表述的认同程度)”可知,学生们用量表报告他们的精神状态是最后一步。故选C。
33.细节理解题。根据第三段中“Students with no after-school activities usually had high levels of screen time, for example. And they expected girls would score higher on negative indicators of mental health. as earlier research had found that they tended to have higher levels of anxiety compared to boys.(比如,没有课后活动的学生们经常会有更长的时间面对屏幕。
根据最后一段中“While past studies have proved the importance of after-school activities for social and academic development, the present study shows their importance for good mental health results.(尽管以前的研究已经证明课后活动对社会和学术发展的重要性,而现在的研究强调了它们对于好的心理健康结果的重要性)”可知,新的研究表明,课后活动对提高青少年的心理健康很重要。

Sam’s birthday was coming, but his heart was filled with disappointment. Turning eleven was a big deal, and he had always celebrated it with a big party surrounded by his friends. However, this year was different. He had so much homework and his parents’ business was not good, so Sam thought it not a good idea to have a birthday party.
One day after class, his best friend, Jim, asked, “Are you going to have a birthday party this year?”
“No,” Sam answered sadly, “There’s just too much going on and my parents are going through some difficulties.”
He smiled weakly, trying to hide his disappointment, but Jim saw through his pretence (假装) easily. But Jim did not say anything. After the break, Sam saw Jim talking to one of their classmates, Sarah, secretly. Curious, Sam went over to them, but as soon as Jim saw him, he quickly walked away. Sam was surprised by Jim’s strange actions and turned towards Sarah.
“What did he say?” Sam asked.
However, Sarah just said no and walked away with Jim, leaving Sam standing there, feeling left out and worried.
What is happening? Sam wondered worriedly. Are they keeping something from me?
As Sam’s birthday came nearer, Sam often found Jim chatting softly with other classmates. Whenever Sam went over to them, they would just walk away or tell him that they were talking about a secret which Sam was not allowed to know. Jim had never kept secrets from me before, Sam thought. His heart fell. Why were his friends keeping away from him? And what were they hiding?
In the afternoon of Sam’s birthday, Sam went home after the school was over, alone. At about seven o’clock, he received a telephone call from Jim, who asked him to go to his home immediately without telling him the reason.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
Standing outside Jim’s home for a short while, he knocked at the door lightly. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Seeing the smile on the faces of all his classmates, Sam’s eyes were full of tears. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Standing outside Jim’s home for a short while, he knocked at the door lightly. The door swung open, and Sam stepped inside, only to find the room pitch dark. Click! The lights suddenly flashed on, and a chorus of “Surprise! Happy Birthday!” exploded around him. Jim, Sarah, and all his classmates were gathered there, grinning from ear to ear. It was Jim who first stepped forward, explaining that they had been secretly planning this for weeks, pooling their pocket money to buy the cake and decorations. So surprised was Sam that he stood frozen, unable to utter a single word.
Seeing the smile on the faces of all his classmates, Sam’s eyes were full of tears. “You guys ... you did all this for me?” he choked out, his voice trembling with emotion. Jim patted his shoulder, saying, “We knew you were worried about money and didn’t want to burden your parents. But nothing should stop you from having an unforgettable birthday.” At that moment, Sam’s parents emerged from the kitchen, holding his favorite homemade dishes. Overwhelmed with gratitude, Sam embraced each of his friends tightly. He realized that true friendship wasn’t about grand parties, but about having people who truly cared and stood by you when times were tough.

24.The Author’s grandmother spent so much time eating at the table because ________.
A.she had no teeth B.she had nothing to do
C.she was preparing to clear the table D.she really wanted to enjoy the food
C
D

This is a true story about something that happened to me last summer. I was spending the holiday 56 (happy) with my family at a beach in the south of England. I was very 57 (interest) in exploring the local area, so one morning I 58 (wake) up early and set off along the quiet road. In my eagerness to discover the local area, I forgot 59 ( tell ) my parents where I was going.
It was a hot, sunny morning and I soon felt thirsty, but I was determined to challenge 60 (me) by walking to the highest point. I’m a good walker and so I pushed my way up the hill, although it was quite hard work. At the top, I saw many birds 61 (fly) around their nests(鸟巢). Feeling curious, I left the road and moved towards the nests. Aha, there were some baby birds in the nest. “If I take 62 picture of the baby birds, will I be attacked?” With 63 (butterfly) in my stomach, I held my camera up and pointed it at the birds.
Just then, one of the birds made a loud noise. I was so surprised 64 I dropped my camera! I didn’t have time to worry 65 it, though. To protect their nests, the birds started to fly at me one by one to make me go away. I rushed back down the hill. Near the bottom of the hill, I heard a car engine. It was my mum’s car! I jumped in and shut the door, looking at her in panic. “Go! Go! Go!” I shouted. I spent the rest of the summer saving up for a new camera.

C
D
