Passage 1
The Chinese Tang Dynasty poet Du Fu is often called the sage (圣人) of poetry. Unlike Li Bai, this poet wrote in various styles, and his works were often innovative (创新的) in language and subject matter. His poems were also filled with meaning.
His innovation was not at all welcome. The readers of his time rarely showed much appreciation of his original and innovative works. The masses in fact hated and scolded them. Like many artists, Du Fu was only recognised for his genius long after his death.
Du Fu was born in Luoyang, Henan Province. Although he came from an influential literary family, his early attempts to gain a position in the government by way of the exam system failed repeatedly. He was 43 years old when he finally managed to hold an official position. This was the time when Emperor Xuanzong was attracted to the beautiful Yang Yuhuan and made her his concubine (妃子), which Du Fu severely criticised in his Song of the Beautiful Ladies.
As the emperor got distracted from important government affairs, some military leaders were becoming too powerful. Du Fu took office in 755, and in the same year a rebel(叛乱) leader An Lushan led his army into the capital of Tang Dynasty. The emperor fled to the west and left the governing of the state to his son. Du Fu and his family took the road north to escape the rebels.
The poet left his family and tried to get to the headquarters of the new emperor, but he was caught and held prisoner by the rebels in Chang’an. After order was restored again, Du Fu got back his position in the capital. However, he did not enjoy the favour of the new emperor and was given a minor provincial post. Passage 2
There is a famous story about how Walt Disney was inspired to build Disneyland. The story goes that during an afternoon visit to Griffith Park located near the Burbank Studios, Walt took a seat while his two young daughters rode the merry-go-round. Walt thought there should be a place where both children and their parents could enjoy spending some time together in an environment that would be both entertaining and pleasing to the eye, so with this thought came the idea for Disneyland.
Walt’s original plan was to build an eight-acre park located near the Burbank Studios that would be a place for his employees and their families. Those plans were put on hold because of the start of World War II. By 1952, Walt had created a special department to build the park.
Finally in 1953, the first steps in building the park happened when Walt hired the Stanford Research Institute to make a survey to determine the best possible location for the future park. Considering population growth and the future freeway construction, they finally found a location in Anaheim and 160 acres of land were bought for the site of the new park.
The building of the park was very expensive and to create funding for the project Walt developed the idea of the “Walt Disney’s Disneyland” television show. It turned out to be a marvelous idea — not only gaining the money to build the park but also presenting the park to the American public.
Construction officially began on July 21, 1954, and it was an ambitious (野心勃勃的) building schedule of less than one year to complete the new park for the projected opening day. Passage 3
I was never addicted to skydiving, like many jumpers are, but I definitely enjoyed it. I made my first skydive when I was barely 19 years old. I had been selected to attend the US Air Force Academy’s Freefall school. I was one of a select few who got to attend the course. It wasn’t intended to make us operational paratroopers (作战伞兵), but more so to teach us about accomplishing missions in high-stress situations. And it did exactly that, as we found this training program was the only one in the country that allowed jumpers to perform freefall skydives and pull their own ripcords (开伞索) without a trained instructor jumping alongside them.
When I returned to Columbus, Ohio for my second year of college, I wore my basic parachutist badge on purpose because at that time, few students could get it. I looked up the Ohio State Skydiving Club. About a month later, I made my first private skydive and the rest was history. I jumped more and more, only paying for the jumps and necessary training when I had the funds to do it.
Eventually, I made 10 skydives, and then it was 20, and I found that I was making jumps at different drop zones. I even bought my own parachute system.
I kept jumping on various weekends during my senior year. The last jump I made, however, was in the fall of 2006. I was told that I had a disease which prevented me from skydiving.
My skydiving career ended with 55 jumps, with more than 40 minutes of freefall time. I met great people along the way and did some pretty crazy jumps. I’ll never forget meeting Adam Abelow, head of the skydiving club, who gave me a ride to get my first civilian jump, and Jen White, who coached me on many of my jumps. Passage 1
Very few of us become fluent in another language by studying it in high school. I went to university and then moved across the country, pursued a demanding career, married and raised children. I made an effort to maintain the little bit of French that I learned in school, but eventually realized that this was pointless. I was well aware that new languages were best learned at a young age, and that our abilities in that regard declined with age.
However, just before my 50th birthday, I signed up for French classes. After I was tested to see which group I belonged to, I was placed at almost the introductory level. When I looked around at my first Saturday morning class, I was struck by how many of the students were learning French as a third, fourth, or even fifth language. Contrary to my assumption that learning a new language was extremely difficult, there were people who learned new languages as a matter of course. I found that it was really true that certain linguistic abilities faded with age. While I’d always thought of myself as a quick learner, that was no longer the case. I absorbed new vocabulary very slowly. What I learned one week seemed to slip away as soon as I learned the next skill. I looked up the same words and language structures over and over again.
Now, after a couple of years, I can listen to the news in French and catch 90 percent of it on the first try, read a novel if the language is not too difficult, and hold up my end of a conversation if it doesn’t go too fast.
Who knows what I might still accomplish? I’ve learned so much beyond grammar and vocabulary. I’ve met people from around the world and all walks of life who have the courage to make fools of themselves in order to learn something new. Listening to the news as it is presented to the people of France, I have a renewed understanding of how something can look completely different from another perspective. I’ve learned that a language is not just a set of words, but a way of thinking. But most of all, I’ve learned that it is really never too late to learn something new.
1.What did the author notice about her classmates in the first French class?
A.Most of them were young language learners.
B.They came from diverse cultural backgrounds.
C.They were learning French as an additional language.
D.They had already well mastered multiple languages.
2.What was the biggest challenge for the author when learning French?
A.She often confused French with English.
B.Her slower learning ability than before.
C.She found the language structures puzzling.
D.She couldn’t have conversations in French.
3.What can we know about the author after her studying French for a few years?
A.She became a fluent French speaker.
B.She could teach others French vocabulary.
C.She became aware of a different cultural perspective.
D.She considered listening to news effective for learning.
4.What’s the main idea of the article?
A.Age isn’t a barrier to learning.
B.Language skills decline with age.
C.Consistent practice leads to success.
D.Connecting with diverse people matters.
Passage 2
During our four days in Sydney, the first thing on my wish list was to record the symbols of this city, the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge, at sunset (日落). Thankfully, my family was very patient with me, as we watched the sunset over and over again while I recorded the exciting moments on my camera.
We first arrived at the Queen Victoria Building, or QVB, which has been called one of the most beautiful places to go shopping. From the QVB we walked down to the Circular Quay, our first look at the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge.
Then the next day, we went to the Taronga Zoo, located across the harbour (港口) from the Circular Quay. There are many Australian animals as well as lions, tigers, and Asian elephants. The best part of the zoo is the ferry (渡船) ride to get there and the view along the way.
For one of the best sunset views, we paid a visit to Mrs. Macquarie’s Chair, a famous viewpoint of the Sydney Harbour. I felt like a true photographer, making my very patient and understanding family wait in the cold for almost two hours while I filled my memory card with photos of the wonderful sunset.
Our time had to come to an end. We spent our last night at the Sydney Opera House café, playing cards, drinking wine, and watching the sunset.
If you would like to know where not to stay in Sydney, then do not go to the Central Railway Hotel. This hotel, one of the few that were cheap enough to fit into our budget, was loud, dirty, and crowded. We were always checking the windows, since so much noise was coming in from the streets. The only good thing was its location, being a five-minute walk from Central Station, a hub (中心) of Sydney.

C.The Harbour Bridge → the Taronga Zoo → Mrs. Macquarie’s Chair → the QVB.
D.The Circular Quay → the QVB → the Taronga Zoo → Mrs. Macquarie’s Chair.
Passage 3
My father was always a good gardener. One of my earliest memories is standing without shoes in the freshly tilled (翻耕的) soil, my hands blackened from digging in the ground.
As a child, I loved following Dad around in the garden. I remember Dad pushing the tiller ahead in perfectly straight lines. Dad loved growing all sorts of things: yellow and green onions, watermelons almost as big as me, rows of yellow corn, and our favorite-red tomatoes.
As I grew into a teenager, I didn’t get so excited about gardening with Dad. Instead of the magical land of possibility, it had turned into some kind of prison. However, as Dad grew older, his love for gardening never disappeared. After all the kids were grown and had started families of their own, Dad turned to gardening like never before. Even when he had cancer, he still took care of his garden.
But then, the cancer, bit by bit, invaded his body. I had to do the things he used to do. What really convinced me that Dad was dying was the state of his garden that year. The rows and rows of colorful vegetables were gone. Too tired to weed (除草) them, he simply let them be. He only planted tomatoes.
A few years later, I couldn’t even bear to look at anyone’s garden without having strong memories pour over me like cold water from a bucket. Last year, I decided to plant my own garden and started out with just a few tomatoes. That morning, after breaking up an amount of soil, something caught the corner of my eye and I had to smile. It was my eight-year-old son Jerry, happily playing in the freshly tilled soil.

3.What can be learned about the garden when the author’s father was dying?
A.It was almost deserted. B.It brought the author a great harvest.
C.It was redecorated by the author. D.It was turned over to the author’s son.

Wang Yongxian, who was born in 1950 in Taiyuan, the capital of north China’s Shanxi Province, is a Chinese expert in the restoration of ancient Chinese buildings. Since 1972, Wang has restored over 100 precious ancient buildings.
At the age of 22, Wang joined the cultural relics working committee of Shanxi Province working on surveys, mapping, and restoration of ancient buildings. For years, he roamed the wilderness, devoting himself to the preservation of temples and pagodas (佛塔).
At that time, many valuable historical buildings had suffered severe damage from natural elements, leaving them ruined and on the edge of collapse. Wang saw himself as a “firefighter” on the front lines, racing against time to rescue these structures.
In his early 20s, Wang once dreamed of a more attractive city life and even considered changing jobs. But witnessing the devotion and sacrifice of senior experts changed his mind. One day, while accompanying Chinese architectural historian Luo Zhewen to inspect the Wooden Pagoda of Yingxian county, Wang watched as Luo — despite being in his sixties — climbed shaky beams (横梁) inside the tower without any safety railing. This commitment deeply moved him. “I must pass the mission of protecting ancient buildings to younger generations, turning our pioneers’ spirit into action,” Wang said.
Thanks to the painstaking efforts of Wang and his colleagues over the decades, an increasing number of ancient buildings across Shanxi, such as Foguang Temple, Chongfu Temple, Guandi Temple, Jinci Temple’s Shengmu Hall, and Xuankong Temple, have been revitalized and opened to the public.
After retiring from his job, Wang’s love for ancient architecture has not diminished a bit. Passage 1
Crowded by defenders, Charlie Villanueva leaps toward the basket. One hand lifts the ball high, and for a moment he seems to hang in the air. Then he hammers the ball through the rim. Slam dunk! His career may look like a slam dunk, being a national champion at the University of Connecticut, and setting beginner records with the Toronto Raptors.
However, life wasn’t always easy for him. His success is due to more than his ability to play basketball and he owes much of who he is today to a skin disease called alopecia areata, which is not infectious but is caused by an error in the immune system that triggers germ-fighting cells to attack the body’s own hair-growing cells. Charlie was affected at age 10 and lost all his hair by age 12. This made him a target for bullying, leading him to withdraw and hide under caps and hoods.
With the support of his mother, Charlie found refuge in basketball. He channeled his frustrations and stress into motivation, improving his skills to the point where his talent overshadowed his condition. The bullying stopped, and his basketball career took off.
All along the way, Charlie has consistently dedicated himself to helping others. Ever since his first year as a new player, he has served as a spokesperson for the National Alopecia Areata Foundation, and went on to establish the Charlie Villanueva Foundation, an organization aimed at supporting families with children suffering from alopecia and stopping all forms of bullying. As the son of immigrants from the· Dominican Republic, he has even worked towards ending poverty in that country.

Cycling uphill was also hard. “It was much harder than I thought. I wasn’t expecting so many hills and how busy the roads were,” Chandler said. “But if you put your mind to anything, then no matter how big, you can do it.”
Chandler first thought of trying the route when he read an article about it two years ago. Later, as his father’s 50th birthday came around, he decided to go for it. He was already used to cycling around his village and to school before starting his journey.

Passage 1

On plenty of drives with my mom through my childhood, she would suddenly pull over the car to examine a flower by the side of the road or rescue a beetle from tragedy while I, in my late teens and early twenties, sat impatiently in the car.
Though Mother’s Day follows Earth Day, for me, they have always been related to each other. My mom has been “green” since she became concerned about the environment. Part of this habit was born of thrift (节俭). Like her mother and her grandmother before her, mom saves glass jars, empty cheese containers and reuses her plastic bags.
Mom creates a kind of harmonious relationship with wildlife in her yard. She knows to pick the apples on her trees a little early to avoid the bears and that if she leaves the bird feeders out at night, it is likely that they will be knocked down by a family of raccoons (浣熊). Spiders that make their way into the house and are caught in juice glasses will be set loose in the garden.
I try to teach my children that looking out for the environment starts with being aware of the environment. On busy streets, we look for dandelions(蒲公英) to fly in the wind; we say hello to neighborhood cats and pick up plastic cups and paper bags. This teaching comes easily, I realize, because I was taught so well by example. Mom didn’t need to lecture; she didn’t need to beat a drum to change the world. She simply slowed down enough to enjoy living in it and with that joy came mercy and an instinct(直觉) for protection.
I am slowing down and it isn’t because of the weight of my nearly forty years on the planet, it is out of my concern for the planet itself. I’ve begun to save glass jars and reuse packing envelopes. I pause in my daily tasks to watch the squirrels race each other in the trees above my house.
Last summer, in the company of my son and daughter, I planted tomatoes in my yard. With the heat of August around me, I ate the first while sitting on my low wall with dirt on my hands. Warm from the sun, it burst on my tongue with sweetness. I immediately wanted to share with my mom.

A.Because Mother’s Day falls shortly after Earth Day.
B.To show that all the older women in her family are environmentalists.
C.To show how much her mother cares about the environment.
D.Because her mother shows her how to be friendly to nature on Mother’s Day.
2.Which of the following is NOT related to Mom’s “green life”?
A.Rescuing a beetle from a certain tragedy.
B.Saving glass jars or empty cheese containers
C.Setting a caught spider free in the garden
D.Picking dandelions on busy streets
3.What can be learned from the last paragraph?
A.Tomatoes are the author’s favorite fruit.
B.It is her mother who taught the author to plant tomatoes.
C.Planting tomatoes is a way of protecting environment.
D.The author really appreciates her mother’s teaching.
4.The writer’s attitude towards her mom’s behavior changed in the order of ______.
A.understanding — negative— supporting
B.supporting — doubtful — negative
C.negative — understanding — supporting
D.doubtful— negative— supporting
Passage 2
As an art graduate, I have always considered myself an artist. However, my journey as a jewelry maker began with an earring-making experience during the pandemic (疫情) when businesses were shutting down.
I struggled with large amounts of time, unemployed and unmotivated. I didn’t know what to do until my friends suggested we make something “cute” from clay (粘土). He was in a rut as well and was looking for an opportunity to get refreshed. While searching online, I was attracted by the photos of beautiful earrings. Thinking about my own possible designs, for the first time in so long, brought me excitement.
I began making my first pair once the materials arrived. I rolled, baked, and connected the clay pieces again and again, trying to make the combination perfect. It took me almost six hours to complete, leaving me with cuts all over my hands due to the repeated use of tools. While the earrings were still not perfect, I felt proud and eager to do better.
Afterwards, I officially started my jewelry-making journey by setting up an Instagram account to display my creations and to seek out other artists. Thanks to their help, I built upon my skills and found myself improving. Later on, I began receiving messages from interested buyers, which encouraged me much. Surprisingly, my creations were bought and worn by more and more people, shipped across the country, and carried in luggage as gifts or souvenirs.
Now I am lucky enough to have a full-time job where I have less time to create. But I’ll never give it up since it is creating jewelry that reminds me of my passion as an artist.

In 759 he finally left this disgraceful position and spent the rest of his life wandering around the country.
1.What do we know about Li Bai’s poems?
A.They were consistent in style.

Walt watched over the park’s construction and progress continued with just a few minor hold-ups. Finally, the park was ready for the Opening Day on July 17, 1955.

Passage 1
After celebrating his 40th birthday on Nov 5, renowned Kenyan marathon runner Eliud Kipchoge embarked on his fifth trip to China.
Kipchoge was raised on a farm. As a child, he would often ride his bicycle to sell milk and run to and from school each day. In 2002, he began focusing on running, initially specializing in the 5,000 meters, a discipline he pursued for 11 years. In 2013, Kipchoge transitioned to marathon running, starting another 11-year journey that would redefine the sport.
From his debut marathon in 2013 to breaking the world record twice and winning two Olympic gold medals, Kipchoge has not only achieved extraordinary personal milestones but also inspired a global community of runners.
Looking back on his career, Kipchoge attributes his journey to a deep love for running and a desire to showcase his talent on the world stage. For years, he has stuck to a strict daily routine. His day begins at 5 am when he rises for a morning run. Afterward, he returns home for a tea break, followed by some light exercises before lunch. In the afternoon, he heads out for another run, then spends the rest of the day focusing on recovery and relaxation before preparing for bed.
Besides his passion for the sport, Kipchoge’s remarkable career comes from his inner drive to push the limits of human endurance. In 2019, he became the first athlete to run a marathon in under two hours, proving his motto (座右铭) that “no human is limited”.

I’ll never forget getting my license and the time my grandparents came to watch me jump.
1.What does the underlined word “that” in paragraph 1 refer to?
A.Training some jumpers for the US Air Force.
B.Selecting brave teenagers to attend the course.
C.Making trainees excellent operational paratroopers.
D.Educating participants to achieve goals under pressure.
2.Why did the author wear his basic parachutist badge after he returned to college?
A.It was what he usually did during the course.
B.He intended to show off his achievement.
C.It was a must for skydiving club members.
D.He wanted to inspire other students.
3.What is the author’s purpose in writing the last paragraph?
A.To show his regret. B.To sum up his honors.
C.To introduce a new topic D.To express his thankfulness.
4.Which word can best describe the author?
A.Intelligent. B.Organized. C.Adventurous. D.Cautious.

根据第二段中“When I looked around at my first Saturday morning class, I was struck by how many of the students were learning French as a third, fourth, or even fifth language. (当我在第一个周六上午的课堂上环顾四周时,我惊讶地发现许多学生把法语作为第三、第四甚至第五语言来学习。)”可知,作者发现很多学生将法语当作第三、第四甚至第五语言来学习。故选C。
2.细节理解题。根据第二段中“I found that it was really true that certain linguistic abilities faded with age. While I’d always thought of myself as a quick learner, that was no longer the case. I absorbed new vocabulary very slowly. What I learned one week seemed to slip away as soon as I learned the next skill. I looked up the same words and language structures over and over again. (我发现某些语言能力确实会随着年龄的增长而衰退。虽然我一直认为自己学得很快,但情况已不再如此。我吸收新词汇的速度非常慢,每周学的东西一到学习下一个技能时似乎就忘得一干二净。我不得不一遍又一遍地查阅相同的单词和语言结构。)”可知,作者最大的挑战是学习能力比以前更慢。故选B。

1.What did the author want to do most in Sydney?
A.Go shopping with his family. B.Visit the Sydney Opera House.
C.Watch unique animals in Australia. D.Photograph famous structures at sunset.
2.What did the author think of his trip to Mrs. Macquarie’s Chair?
A.It was record-breaking. B.It was a waste of time.
C.It was worthwhile. D.It was very painful.
3.What made the author choose the Central Railway Hotel to stay?
A.Its good location. B.Its quietness. C.Its low price. D.Its cleanness.
4.Which was the author’s travel route in Sydney?
A.The QVB → the Sydney Opera House → the Taronga Zoo → Mrs. Macquarie’s Chair.
B.The QVB → the Taronga Zoo → Mrs. Macquarie’s Chair → the Sydney Opera House.
C.The Harbour Bridge → the Taronga Zoo → Mrs. Macquarie’s Chair → the QVB.
D.The Circular Quay → the QVB → the Taronga Zoo → Mrs. Macquarie’s Chair.
【答案】1.D 2.C 3.C 4.B

1.Why did the author like the garden when he was a child?
A.The garden was freshly tilled by the worker.
B.He loved what his mother grew in the garden.
C.The garden was planted with colorful flowers.
D.He enjoyed being in the garden with his father.
2.What did the author’s father do when all the kids started their own families?
A.Stopping his gardening. B.Focusing on planting tomatoes.
C.Turning to other hobbies. D.Spending more time on gardening.
3.What can be learned about the garden when the author’s father was dying?
A.It was almost deserted. B.It brought the author a great harvest.
C.It was redecorated by the author. D.It was turned over to the author’s son.
4.What is the best title for the text?
A.Lessons from Gardening B.The Magic of Freshly Tilled Soil
C.Gardening through Generations D.A Teenager’s Love for Gardening
【答案】1.D 2.D 3.A 4.C

Passage 1
There can be no doubt that Stephen King, New York Time’s Best-Selling author, has found success in many aspects, but it wasn’t always like this. King witnessed tragedy and horrors from the very beginning. When he was 2 years old, his father told his mom that he was going out to get cigarettes but in fact, he never came back, he had abandoned his family.
This left his mother Ruth to care for Stephen and his elder brother David on her own. Ruth was forced to move often, desperately looking for work as she was now the only provider of the family, and she had to rely on relatives most of the time. One day Stephen went out to play with friends and when he came back, he wasn’t even able to speak a single word, it seemed he was hurt mentally or something, but he still got the courage to continue forward. It turned out that one of his friends was hit by a train and died, which left an emotional scar on him.

It turned out that one of his friends was hit by a train and died, which left an emotional scar on him.(这让他的母亲Ruth独自照顾斯蒂芬和他的哥哥大卫。
根据第二段“One day Stephen went out to play with friends and when he came back, he wasn’t even able to speak a single word, it seemed he was hurt mentally or something, but he still got the courage to continue forward. 4.细节理解题。根据倒数第二段“People used to acknowledge the King family by their love of literature, in fact whenever Stephen’s mom used to go out, she didn’t hire a babysitter, for the kids used to read novels to each other so they would not get bored.(人们过去常常以他们对文学的热爱来认可金一家,事实上,每当斯蒂芬的妈妈出去时,她都不会雇保姆,因为孩子们过去常常互相读小说,这样他们就不会感到无聊)”可知,孩子们通过阅读相互陪伴,所以不需要额外雇用保姆。故选C。
Passage 2

Passage 2
With the most attractive view along the road, it is a popular route for cyclists: the road from Land’s End in England to John O’ Groats in Scotland, about 874 miles long. It covers almost the full length of Great Britain. The 12-year-old boy named Laurence Chandler became the youngest cyclist to finish the route.
Chandler took 20 days to finish the challenge. Each day, he cycled between 40 to 60 miles. He spent six hours on his mountain bike daily. Chandler had to push through rainy and windy days.
During his ride, Chandler raised 600 pounds for Smile Train, a children’s organization that pays for treatment for children in developing countries who have deft lips (兔唇).
1.What do we know about Laurence Chandler?

1.Why does the author say Earth Day is connected with Mother’s Day?
根据文章第二段“My mom has been “green” since she became concerned about the environment.”
根据第一段“rescue a beetle from tragedy ”(拯救一只甲虫免于悲剧)根据第二段“Like her mother and her grandmother before her, mom saves glass jars, empty cheese containers and reuses her plastic bags.”(像她母亲和她以前的祖母一样,母亲保存玻璃罐、空奶酪容器,并重复使用塑料袋)以及根据第二段“Spiders that make their way into the house and are caught in juice glasses will be set loose in the garden.”(蜘蛛进入房子并被果汁杯抓住后,会被放在花园里) 可知A、B、C选项内容和green life有关,故D为正确选项。
根据最后一段“With the heat of August around me, I ate the first while sitting on my low wall with dirt on my hands. Warm from the sun, it burst on my tongue with sweetness. I immediately wanted to share with my mom.”(八月的酷热笼罩着我,我坐在低矮的墙上,手上沾满了灰尘,吃了第一道菜。
从文章第一段“while I, in my late teens and early twenties, sat impatiently in the car.”(而我,在我二十岁出头的时候,却不耐烦地坐在车里),和下文中的because I was taught so well by example.“ 因为我被榜样教得很好”以及倒数第二段中作者的做法“I’ve begun to save glass jars and reuse packing envelopes. I pause in my daily tasks to watch the squirrels race each other in the trees above my house. ”(我已经开始节约玻璃罐和重复使用包装信封。我在每天的工作中停下来,看着松鼠在我房子上方的树上互相赛跑。)”可以看出作者对母亲做法的态度转变,从消极对待,到理解,最后到效仿的一个过程,所以正确选项为C。
1.What does the underlined phrase “in a rut” in Paragraph 2 mean?
A.Stuck in self-criticism. B.Leading a dull life.

A.Painful. B.Perfect.
C.Rewarding. D.Disappointing.
3.What helped the author improve her jewelry-making skills?

B.Making jewelry helped me out.
C.Making jewelry built my character.
D.Clay art fueled my passion for business.
根据第二段“I struggled with large amounts of time, unemployed and unmotivated. I didn’t know what to do until my friends suggested we make something “cute” from clay (粘土). (我在大量的时间里挣扎,没有工作,没有动力。我不知道该怎么办,直到我的朋友建议我们用粘土做一些“可爱”的东西。)”可知,作者过得很无聊,再根据第二段“was looking for an opportunity to get refreshed.(正在寻找一个恢复精神的机会)”可知,作者的那个朋友也过着无聊的生活,划线短语in a rut的意思是“过着无聊的生活”,和Leading a dull life意思相近,故选B。
根据第三段“While the earrings were still not perfect, I felt proud and eager to do better.(虽然耳环还不够完美,但我感到自豪,并渴望做得更好。)”和第四段“Afterwards, I officially started my jewelry-making journey by setting up an Instagram account to display my creations and to seek out other artists.(之后,我正式开始了我的珠宝制作之旅,建立了一个Instagram账户来展示我的作品,并寻找其他艺术家。)”
根据第四段“Afterwards, I officially started my jewelry-making journey by setting up an Instagram account to display my creations and to seek out other artists. Thanks to their help, I built upon my skills and found myself improving.(之后,我正式开始了我的珠宝制作之旅,建立了一个Instagram账户来展示我的作品,并寻找其他艺术家。多亏了他们的帮助,我的技能得到了提高,并发现自己在进步。)”可知,来自其他艺术家的帮助帮助作者提高了自己的珠宝制作技能,故选D。
4.主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是第一段“However, my journey as a jewelry maker began with an earring-making experience during the pandemic (疫情) when businesses were shutting down.(然而,我作为珠宝制造商的旅程始于大流行期间企业关闭时的耳环制作经历。)”和最后一段“Now I am lucky enough to have a full-time job where I have less time to create. But I’ll never give it up since it is creating jewelry that reminds me of my passion as an artist.(现在我很幸运有一份全职工作,我没有那么多时间去创造。但我永远不会放弃,因为它是创造珠宝让我想起我作为一个艺术家的激情。)”可知,本文主要讲的是作者如何开始制作耳环以及作者做耳环的经历对作者的影响,因此文章的主旨是B选项“Making jewelry helped me out.(制作珠宝帮我走出困境。)”,故选B。
