Seventy percent of our planet is covered by the ocean. In 2008, the UN regarded June 8 as World Oceans Day. It is so important that it is now celebrated in over 100 countries around the world. It’s a day to think about the important role that the ocean plays in our lives, the dangers that our oceans are facing and the action we can take to protect the ocean.

·It is home to many plants and animals on earth.
·Sea plants provide us with 70 % of the oxygen we breathe.
·It controls our climate (气候), providing heat in winter and cool air in summer.
·It also provides us with food and medicine.
When people talk of exploring (开发) the sea, there are two different points.
No: Sea exploration has caused many problems and will continue to cause more.
More exploration means more pollution. One of the worst is plastic pollution. Many birds and fish died of this.
Mining for resources (资源开采) harms a lot, especially in the Arctic. The thickest, oldest and hardest sea ice around it is melting. Climate change is warning us that something is very wrong.
Overfishing is another problem. Whales and dolphins are also killed for their meat or for so-called research. Although this was not allowed in 1982, some countries are still hurt these clever animals.
Yes: To truly understand our planet, we must explore the oceans. For example, some research can help answer some important questions such as climate change. We need to understand what is happening to our planet so that we can take action. Therefore, more research is necessary.
Understanding more about the sea will also help us manage its resources better. It may help us discover new medicines as well as new sources of food and energy. Getting to the deep ocean may also help us to predict events such as earthquakes.
The population of the world is growing and we need new resources for future development. There are probably more resources under the sea and ice, not just oil and gas but also valuable minerals.
As we all know, the ocean is the treasure to our life. Now it is crying out for our help! Remember, only when we get on well with nature, like respecting the ocean, can our world be a better place. Let’s take action now and make a difference for our future.

It may help us discover new medicines, as well as new sources of food and energy. Getting to the deep ocean may also help us to predict events such as earthquakes.
The population of the world is growing and we need new resources for future development. There are probably more resources under the sea and ice, not just oil and gas but also valuable minerals.
