Passage 1
(23-24高二下·天津河西·期中)I’m a TV show host. One Sunday, I took my 7-year-old daughter by the sea for lunch. On arriving at the beach, I saw JoJo, a wealthy man in the hotel business. We sat down to chat in an open air cafe.
Suddenly our conversation was interrupted by a stranger, who politely asked permission to speak to me. Often people want to tell me something about my conversation TV show, when I’m out on the streets.
He asked to speak to me privately, so we stood a bit away from my table. He said. “I’m James, 35 years old, father of a 7-year-old girl, who’s very sick. She needs treatment abroad. The doctors said that if she was treated in the UK, she would probably survive. But I’m poor, so can you please help me?”
Speechless, I stared in the man’s eyes full of tears and asked how I could help. After we talked for a while, I went to sit back at the table. JoJo asked me, “What’s wrong with you? Your face changed.” I told him. JoJo was sorry for this family and said I had the means through the media to help him. Later we headed off to our destinations.
All weekend I thought about James, his daughter and his family. I even thought about doing a special TV show to raise money for this sick child.

“Please, call the man with the sick child and tell him that I’ll pay all expenses for his sick daughter’s treatment,” JoJo said, with a cheque in his hand. “I’ve been married for 35 years. I wasn’t lucky enough to have a child. I want to help this child now.” I picked up the phone to call James.

Passage 2
(23-24高二下·天津·期中)At the age of 17 years 64 days, Mack Rutherford has become the youngest person to fly around the world alone! Mack’s journey around the world lasted five months and he flew across 52 countries in total. His record-breaking flight began in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, on 23 March, 2022. He was 16 years old when he took off and celebrated his 17th birthday by himself in his plane.
Mack faced many challenges during his adventure. Because of his small-sized aircraft, he had to land whenever the weather got too rough. However, at some points he literally couldn’t land, such as when flying non-stop for 10 hours over an ocean. At other points, he faced extremely hot weather, such as in Dubai. In Sudan, a country in Africa, Mack also faced sandstorms which made it hard for him to see where he was going. Mack battled strong winds and pouring rain during his flight, but he never stopped smiling, joking and updating his flowers on his social media account along the way, and managed to expertly pilot his plane to safety.
And if Mack’s surname “Rutherford” sounds familiar, it’s because his elder sister Zara also flew around the world earlier this year, and still holds the female version of the record! The Rutherford siblings (兄弟姐妹) were inspired by their parents to become pilots. “I have known for certain I wanted to fly since I was eleven,” Mack said, “My dad Sam is a professional ferry pilot, my mum Beatrice is a recreational (娱乐的) private pilot.”
Mack hopes to inspire young people to begin working towards their own goals, “No matter what background you have, I believe it is never too early to work towards your dreams and you shouldn’t limit yourself by others’ expectations.” With both feet firmly back on the ground now, it’s time for Mack to turn his attention towards catching up on his schoolwork!

Passage 1
(24-25高二下·天津南开·期中)In many businesses, computers have largely replaced paperwork, because they are fast, flexible, and do not make mistakes. As one banker said, “Unlike humans, computers never have a bad day.” And they are honest. Many banks advertise that their trades are “untouched by human hands” and therefore safe from human temptation (诱惑) . Obviously, computers have no reason to steal money. But they also have no conscience, and the growing number of computer crimes shows they can be used to steal.
Computer criminals don’t use guns. And even if they are caught, it is hard to punish them because there are no witnesses and often no evidence. A computer cannot remember who used it; it simply does what it is told. The head teller at a New York City bank used a computer to steal more than one and a half billion dollars in just four years. No one noticed this theft because he moved the money from one account to another. Each time a customer he had robbed questioned the balance in his account, the teller claimed a computer error, then replaced the missing money from someone else’s account. This man was caught only because he was a gambler (赌徒) . When the police broke up an illegal gambling operation, his name was in the records.
Some employees use the computers’ power to get revenge (报仇) on employers they consider unfair. Recently, a large insurance company fired its computer tape librarian for reasons that involved her personal rather than her professional life. She was given thirty days’ notice. In those thirty days, she erased (清除) all the company’s computerized records.
Most computer criminals have been minor employees. Now police wonder if this is “the tip of the iceberg”. As one official says, “I have the feeling that there is more crime out there than we are catching. What we are seeing now is all so poorly done. I wonder what the real experts are doing — the ones who know how a computer works.”
1.Which feature of computers makes computer theft possible?

B.They usually function normally.
C.They have no sense of what is right or wrong.
D.They have no reason to steal money.
2.The author uses the case of the head teller to show .
A.how computer criminals do evil things
B.how hard it is to find computer criminals
C.computers lack conscience
D.computer crime can involve a big sum of money
3.The head teller was found guilty of stealing .
A.after the police examined the illegal gambling operation documents
B.when the police broke up the illegal gambling operation
C.after he was questioned on the unusual balance of an account
D.when he was caught transmitting money from one account to another
4.Why did the computer tape librarian erase all the company’s computerized records?
A.She might think it was right to revenge any injustice in professional life.
B.She might think the employer was wrong to fire her for personal problems.
C.The company carelessly gave her enough time to do the erasing.
D.The company always interfered with its employees’ personal life.
5.What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A.Minor employees are supposed to be responsible for economic criminals.
B.Of all crimes, computer theft is “the tip of the iceberg”.
C.Computer crimes are all poorly done.
D.There are more computer crimes committed by computer masters.
Passage 2
(24-25高二下·天津南开·期中)When I started university, people told me, “These will be the best days of your life.” Not only would these be the best days of my life, everyone said, but they would also be the most exciting. By the end of my first year I was seriously considering dropping out. I had not made as many friends, had as much fun, or enjoyed my course as much as I thought I was going to. But I didn’t tell anyone.
I certainly didn’t put it on Facebook — its culture of competitive sharing made me feel even worse. Visiting my friends’ Facebook, I found that they were clearly enjoying themselves a lot.
Jemma Lamble and I are friends on Facebook — what impression did she get from my Facebook page? “There is one feeling I got when I clicked on Libby’s Facebook page and that is jealousy.”
Talking to fellow students has made me realize how little resemblance our Facebook lives have to our real ones. “University life wasn’t the walk in the park I had expected,” says Jemma. “I certainly didn’t expect the feeling of loneliness that I experienced because I found it hard to connect with the people on my course.”
Sophie Smith remembers her first day: “As I walked into my first class, I tried my hardest to smile at everyone and make friends. But I was shocked by how blank some people were. I said to one guy, ‘Wow, LCF, I still can’t believe I’m here’. He replied, ‘Well, LCF is lucky to have me.’ I don’t want to label everyone on the course because there are some lovely people too.”
My time at university may not have been the dream that I signed up for, but it has made me who I am. LCF did not provide me with the social experience I dreamed of, but it has made me appreciate the good friends I have kept from my childhood and each new one I have made here. Studying in London was frightening at times, but I have become much more independent as a result. Now that I am starting my third and final year, I can look back and see that university has been an experience.

8.The underlined part in the third paragraph probably means “ ”.
A.a comfortable journey on foot on campus B.an easy or pleasurable experience
C.a matter of importance D.something unexpected
9.Sophie Smith must have considered the guy who replied to her .

Passage 1
(24-25高二下·天津河东·期中)I still remember the days when I was a youthful student in an engineering school. I lived a casual life, without caring about the future. I smoked, drank with friends and made girl friends. Little did I realize that casualness would certainly lead to loss.
Two years had passed and I was staring down a report card that highlighted (使……突出) FAIL in more than half the subjects. I didn’t care, at least not till my dad found out about it. You see, I studied in India and unlike the United States where the students are expected to finance their own education, my dad financed me.
Then came the day when my dad found out my habit of smoking. He got very angry but he just told me, “Son, your allowance is cut in half from this moment on.” It hit me like a roundhouse kick from Bruce Lee. I was jolted (震摇) of my bones! I didn’t know how to pay off the debts that I had accumulated in college. I owed everybody money: the grocery store, the bars, the restaurants, my friends, etc. I was living a life filled with credit.
When I went back to college, I knew that if I don’t change the way I live my life I won’t be able to pay everybody off. So I decided to make some changes, big changes. I quit smoking, cut off from my friends who led me down the wrong road, starting hanging out in libraries and reading my engineering books.
One year later, I went from a miserable failure to a magna cum laude Life was never the same again. This incident made me know that anything is possible if you take action and do something about it, however small or large. (24-25高二下·天津南开·期中)Signs posted up and down the school hallway didn’t let me forget: Snowball Dance — Next Friday Night! No one would be asking me, the junior high school outsider. My face was ruined, and my balance was off — I had seizures (癫痫) without warning. All these were making my middle school life miserable. I kept my head down as I hurried to the classroom.
I stepped into the office where my teacher Mrs Barrett waited. She learned that my grandmother had been teaching me to sew for years, but none of the other kids in the class knew it.
Mrs Barrett called me up to her desk. “A lot of girls need help with changes on their dresses for the Snowball Dance. I thought you could help me after school,” she said. “Sure,” I said. Together with Mrs Barrett, I sewed buttons, shortened some sleeves, and lengthened others.
Teresa, one of the most popular girls, came by to pick up her dress. “Roberta designed and sewed it by hand,” Mrs Barrett told her. “It’s fashionable! Thanks. You must have added this brilliant belt,” she said. “I tied ribbons to the end of a pearl necklace,” I said, looking down at my shabby shoes. Teresa didn’t get crowned at the dance, but her Snowball Dance dress was the talk of the school during the following week. Word quickly spread that I was actually good at something . Soon the girls were coming to me and Mrs Barrett for custom-made dresses. “We should organize a fashion show,” Mrs Barrett said one day. We asked the girls in the office and they all wanted to participate. We had a packed auditorium for the show.

Passage 1
(24-25高二下·天津西青·期中)Edmund Percival Hillary was one of the greatest explorers of the twentieth century. He was born in Auckland, New Zealand, in 1919. He discovered an interest in mountain climbing while he was still in high school and began climbing New Zealand’s Southern Alps.
Like his father, Hillary earned his living as a beekeeper. However, he continued to climb mountains. His goal was to climb Mt. Everest, which is the highest mountain in the world. By the early 1950s, several expeditions (远征) had attempted to reach the summit of Everest, but all had failed. Then, in 1953, Hillary and a Nepalese (尼泊尔的) climber named Tenzing Norgay became the first two people to reach the top of the world.
Hillary’s spirit of exploration was not satisfied. He joined an expedition to Antarctica and reached the South Pole in 1958. He also made an expedition up the Ganges River to its source in the Himalayas. Sir Edmund Hillary was a brave adventurer. He went where no man or woman had gone before.
Although Hillary was best known as the young man who climbed to the summit of Mt. Everest in the 1950s, he continued his journeys to far-off places into his senior years. Passage 2
Many believe that repairing automobiles is a man’s job, but the story of Gu Huijing is a living proof that women can do it too.
Gu, 18, now studies at Shenzhen No.2 Vocational (职业的) and Technical School. In April, she won first prize at a provincial competition for vehicle maintenance in Guangdong, which drew 33 teams from different cities across the province.
Gu decided to major in automobiles in a vocational school when she was in junior high. “I clearly know my strength and weakness,” she said. Gu thought that she would not perform well in her College Entrance Exam due to poor performance in math if she insisted on studying in a senior high school. But Gu is insightful: She knows that she is much more interested in robots and driverless cars.
At first, her parents were surprised and couldn’t accept her decision. But Gu persuaded them in a rational way: Before making the decision, she researched the future development of the auto industry in her city, compared different schools' curriculums and sought advice from seniors.
“I showed my parents that I’m really passionate about the major and take my career prospect seriously,” Gu said. “Then they respected my decision.” Gu did what she said she would. She started learning about cars in 2019. But she encountered many difficulties in reading the circuit diagrams (电路图). “Each model of car has its own circuit diagrams,” she said. “It’s hard to figure out all of those diagrams in a short time.” To overcome the difficulty, Gu had been practicing and turning to teachers whenever she had a problem. Finally, Gu achieved her “eureka (顿悟)” moment after she studied hard for one year.
She showed her perseverance in her one-month intensive training for the competition. From 8 am to 5 pm, Gu had her usual lessons, but at night, she attended a training camp.
Compared to her male classmates, Gu is not strong enough to carry some heavier car parts, but constant training makes up for it. On top of that, Gu is more patient and careful than other male competitors, Li Shichuan, Gu’s teacher, told The Paper.
“Many people are prejudiced against students from vocational schools and think vehicle maintenance is a job for men. That’s a stereotype( 刻板印象 ). I don’t think we’re inferior( 低人一等的 ) to others and nor does gender have something to do with the choice of occupation.”
Gu hopes to be a versatile( 全能型的 ) talent in the auto industry. “If possible, I also want to take part in the World Skills Competition and demonstrate Chinese craftsmanship to more people,” she added.

A.By exercising more and asking for help.
B.By taking extra lessons on reading diagrams.
C.By studying the differences between circuit diagrams.
D.By attending different training camps.

A.She has more support from people around her.
B.She has versatile talents in the auto industry.
C.She has better career prospects.
D.She has greater patience.

A.People who lost their jobs.
B.Students who are prepared for career choice.
C.College students who are unwilling to work.
D.People who are advised to change their jobs.
Passage 3
(24-25高二下·天津·期中)During my graduate studies, countless workshops taught me one thing: To make it in science, one must design and carry out big projects. As I established my own research lab, a senior colleague encouraged me to try something big. So when I landed an associate professor position, my goal seemed obvious: I should perform big projects. This was the only way to lay a foundation for a successful academic research career. The path, however, would not be as clear as I had pictured.
When I contacted famous researchers to suggest cooperating, as is typically required for high-profile (高姿态的) projects they frequently replied enthusiastically to start with, agreeing my project sounded interesting and promising. But when they learned I had just established my lab, they became skeptical (持怀疑态度的) and hesitant, ultimately saying no. And when I sought grant funding, my lack of experience and reputation was cited as a reason to refuse support for my ambitious proposals.
I spent about two years being trapped in this mindset (思维模式), excited about my big ideas but making little actual progress, leading to frustration and depression. As I neared my breaking point, I began to ask myself: Were big projects really the only route?
When I shifted to small projects, I became brave enough to step into fields I was not familiar with. By reading papers in new areas, I found creative ideas to pursue (追求). When I discussed these adventurous, low-cost projects with early-career researchers, they were glad to cooperate. We secured funding. When I published papers out of these projects, they were not exciting enough to make headlines — but for me, it was a moment of joy and self-contentment.
It has now been 3 years since I embraced this “small” approach. Sometimes senior colleagues say I’m wasting time with projects that aren’t important enough. But I disagree. When I do these studies, I also find clues for future big projects. Going forward, I will still commit part of my time to exploring small projects, which I think can help pursue more fundamental questions.
21.What is the author trying to do with big projects?
A.Pursue his graduate studies. B.Seek a route to academic success.
C.Apply for an associate professorship. D.Establish an academic research center.
22.What prevented the author pursuing his big project?

C.Shortage of academic talents. D.The opposition from colleagues.
23.According to the third paragraph, what made the author frustrated and depressed?
A.His big projects all failed.
B.His big ideas were not practical.
C.He suffered from mental and physical problems.
D.He was confident about his idea, but it didn’t go far enough.
24.How did the author carry out his small project?
A.By publishing influential papers.
B.By getting young colleagues’ funding.
C.By exploring and coming up with new ideas.
D.By cooperating with senior colleagues.
25.What does the author learn from his experience?
A.Good jobs require a high degree. B.Ambition isn’t fit for the young.
C.Success results from preparation. D.Small doesn’t mean unimportant.

Passage 1
(24-25高二下·天津和平·期中)An unpleasant smell floated into my nose as the bowl of fried stinky tofu (臭豆腐) settled onto my grandmother’s dinner table. I immediately sat back. The smell ruined my appetite, and I pushed the dish away.
“It’s supposed to stink. Just give it a try!” my grandmother said.
Holding my breath, I unwillingly took a bite. To my surprise, the tofu beneath the fried skin was warm, soft, and mouthwatering. Since then, whenever I visited my grandmother’s house, I would rush to the kitchen for the stinky tofu with excitement. Thus, stinky tofu became more than a household tradition. It became my favorite dish.
Along with the stinky tofu, I would meet my Uncle Chan on every visit. As an immature boy, I never understood my uncle’s condition of Down syndrome He was an unfriendly and terrible creature in my eyes. He constantly walked around the house, talking to himself. Whenever he was within view, I would runaway in fear.
However, one day, my view of my uncle suddenly changed. I was just getting out of my bed when I heard soft steps approaching. It was my uncle. My muscles froze. He slowly sat next to me and touched my face gently, as a mother would stroke (抚摸) a baby. A wide smile emerged from his blank expression. How beautiful his smile was! I could not help but smile back. My fear disappeared gradually and my muscles relaxed. For the first time, I could see softness and warmth in his eyes.
My uncle very much resembles stinky tofu. Stinky tofu smells unpleasant on the outside, yet feels warm and soft on the inside. Like stinky tofu, my uncle’s Down syndrome made me keep my distance at first. Yet, I learned that deep inside, he is harmless and has a loving nature.
Some people tend to look down upon disabled people and regard them as unfit for a regular life. As I was unable to see through the outer surface of the tofu, these people are unable to see through the surface of prejudice. As a result, they judge the disabled with one glance.
The outside and inside of the stinky tofu exist as two extremely different worlds. Perhaps that is what makes it such a tasty dish. Not only is it delicious, stinky tofu offers a valuable lesson: never judge people at first glance, for true beauty comes from the inside.
11.What was the author’s initial reaction to the smell of the stinky tofu?
A.He was so excited as to try it at once.
B.He felt sick and moved the dish out of his reach.
C.He was curious and wanted to know more about it.
D.He was indifferent and didn’t care about the smell.
12.When did the author’s initial impression of her Uncle Chan change?
A.After he tasted the stinky tofu for the first time.
B.When he first met him at her grandmother’s house.
C.During a personal encounter where he showed him kindness.
D.When he learned more about his condition of Down syndrome.
13.How did the author’s idea of her Uncle Chan change over time?
A.He became more afraid of him as he grew older.
B.He always saw him as a strange and frightful person.
C.He hardly understood his condition and always avoided him.
D.He feared him due to his condition at first but saw his virtues later.
14.The comparison between stinky tofu and the author’s uncle serves to ________.
A.describe a precious childhood memory
B.highlight the nature of Uncle Chan
C.introduce a traditional Chinese food
D.analyze the family relationship
15.What is the main message the author wants to convey in writing the passage?
A.That stinky tofu is a delicious and valuable dish.
B.That family traditions are important and should be cherished.
C.That disabled people should be treated with sympathy and pity.

Passage 2
(24-25高二下·天津·期中)My father was always a good gardener. One of my earliest memories is standing without shoes in the freshly tilled (翻耕的) soil, my hands blackened from digging in the ground.
As a child, I loved following Dad around in the garden. I remember Dad pushing the tiller ahead in perfectly straight lines. Dad loved growing all sorts of things: yellow and green onions, watermelons almost as big as me, rows of yellow corn, and our favorite-red tomatoes.
As I grew into a teenager, I didn’t get so excited about gardening with Dad. Instead of the magical land of possibility, it had turned into some kind of prison. However, as Dad grew older, his love for gardening never disappeared. After all the kids were grown and had started families of their own, Dad turned to gardening like never before. Even when he had cancer, he still took care of his garden.
But then, the cancer, bit by bit, invaded his body. I had to do the things he used to do. What really convinced me that Dad was dying was the state of his garden that year. The rows and rows of colorful vegetables were gone. Too tired to weed (除草) them, he simply let them be. He only planted tomatoes.
A few years later, I couldn’t even bear to look at anyone’s garden without having strong memories pour over me like cold water from a bucket. Last year, I decided to plant my own garden and started out with just a few tomatoes. That morning, after breaking up an amount of soil, something caught the corner of my eye and I had to smile. It was my eight-year-old son Jerry, happily playing in the freshly tilled soil.

Passage 1
(24-25高二下·天津·期中)We thought we had it all — a beautiful house, three healthy children and one more on the way, two cars, a couple of four-wheelers for entertainment — and we loved it. Then, the market turned and my husband’s job at a construction company was gone. The company was closing down for good.
We both started looking for jobs right away, but there weren’t any to be found. With each passing day we were getting increasingly worried and we continued to work together in order to pull our family through. The more we pulled together, the closer we got. I felt feelings of admiration for my husband that I hadn’t felt in years.
That’s why it was so hard for me to watch him blame himself for our present situation. I continually asked him to stop, but he seemed to want to punish himself for not having a job.
Finally, one afternoon I pulled him aside and said, “We have four healthy children. That’s what’s important. That makes you a rich man.”
“But what if we lose the house? They’ll hate me — you’ll hate me,” he replied.
I smiled at him and put my hands on both sides of his face to make him look me in the eye. “No matter where we live I will be happy — as long as I have you.” I smiled again. In all the struggling together I had found that deep love for him that I had on the day we said “I do”.
I could see his shoulders and neck relaxed. He held me close and we were able to talk and plan and dream together in a way that we hadn’t for quite some time. It was a turning point for us as a couple and a family.
We are still struggling for our better life, but I consider us well-off because we have something that money can’t buy and no one can take away from us.

Passage 2
(24-25高二下·天津河北·期中)When Andrea Peterson landed her first teaching job, she faced the daunting task of creating a music program with almost no money for equipment or supplies in a climate where standards-based learning was the focus and music just provided a break for students and teachers.
For her drive and creativity in overcoming those challenges, she’s been named national teacher of the year.
Principal Waynes Kettler said he’s worked with many outstanding teachers in his 22 years as an educator, but Peterson is “just that one step above anybody I’ve ever worked with before.”
Kettler and others at Monte Cristo Elementary School talk about the ways she has introduced the learning from other classrooms into her music program and her creativity in working around things such as the lack of money for new music.
When students were reading S. E. Hinton’s novel The Outsiders in their regular classroom, Peterson helped them write a 30-minute play with scenes from the book. Then they chose three Broadway tunes that focused on race, equality and social justice, the themes of the book. Peterson composed two other songs herself after classroom discussions about the play and the book.
The honor means a lot to residents of Granie Falls. It’s inspiring to know that people from small towns can even win national honors.
As national teacher of the year, Peterson will spend the next year outside classroom, as a national and international spokeswoman for education.
Not surprisingly, she is a big believer in the value of arts education. She said it’s essential for schools to offer classes such as art or music and physical education because for some kids one of those subjects is the only thing that motivates them to come back to school day after day.

A.She wrote plays on themes of race, equality and social justice.
B.She made use of the contents of other classes in her teaching.
C.She organized classroom discussions of Broadway tunes.
D.She helped students compose songs by themselves.
19.In Peterson’s opinion. .
A.art, music and PE classes are all important
B.more subjects should be offered to students
C.students should be motivated to attend art classes
D.arts education is more important than other subjects
20.It can be concluded from the text that ______.

A.They are fast, flexible and accurate to run every program.
【答案】1.C 2.B 3.A 4.B 5.D
根据第一段中“But they also have no conscience, and the growing number of computer crimes shows they can be used to steal. (但它们也没有良知,越来越多的计算机犯罪案例表明,计算机可以被用来盗窃。)”可知,电脑没有是非观念的特点使得电脑盗窃成为可能。故选C。
2.推理判断题。根据第二段中“Computer criminals don’t use guns.
根据第二段中“When the police broke up an illegal gambling operation, his name was in the records. (当警方捣毁一个非法赌博活动时,他的名字出现在记录中。)”可知,是在警方检查非法赌博活动文件后,这位银行出纳主管被发现有罪。故选A。
根据第三段中“Some employees use the computers’ power to get revenge (报仇) on employers they consider unfair. Recently, a large insurance company fired its computer tape librarian for reasons that involved her personal rather than her professional life. She was given thirty days’ notice. In those thirty days, she erased (清除) all the company’s computerized records. (一些员工利用计算机的功能,向他们认为不公平的雇主进行报复。最近,一家大型保险公司解雇了其计算机磁带管理员,原因涉及她的个人生活而非工作表现。公司给了她30天的离职通知期。在那30天里,她删除了公司所有的计算机化记录。)”可知,电脑磁带管理员删除公司所有电脑记录是因为她可能认为雇主因为个人问题解雇她是错误的,所以她要报复。故选B。
5.推理判断题。根据最后一段中“As one official says, “I have the feeling that there is more crime out there than we are catching. What we are seeing now is all so poorly done. I wonder what the real experts are doing — the ones who know how a computer works.” (正如一位官员所说:“我有一种感觉,外面的犯罪比我们抓到的要多。我们现在看到的都做得很糟糕。我想知道真正的专家在做什么——那些知道电脑如何工作的人。”)”可知,有更多由电脑高手犯下的电脑犯罪。故选D。
6.What can we infer from paragraph 1?

D.The author felt disappointed with her campus life.
7.Which of the following is TRUE about Facebook according to the text?
A.A Facebook page may be a complete lie.
B.People really enjoy themselves on Facebook.
C.Facebook lives are a mirror of the real ones.
D.Facebook makes a person competitive.
8.The underlined part in the third paragraph probably means “ ”.
A.a comfortable journey on foot on campus B.an easy or pleasurable experience
C.a matter of importance D.something unexpected
9.Sophie Smith must have considered the guy who replied to her .
A.fortunate B.humorous C.impolite D.considerate
10.What does the author mainly say in the last paragraph?
A.She feels regretful.
B.LCF is not her dream college.
C.Hardship has made her stronger.
D.Friendship weighs more than social experience.
【答案】6.D 7.A 8.B 9.C 10.C
根据第一段中“By the end of my first year I was seriously considering dropping out. I had not made as many friends, had as much fun, or enjoyed my course as much as I thought I was going to. (在第一年结束时,我正认真考虑退学。我没有交到那么多朋友,没有玩得那么开心,也没有像我认为的那样享受我的课程)”可推知,作者对她的校园生活感到失望。故选D。
7.细节理解题。根据第二段“I certainly didn’t put it on Facebook — its culture of competitive sharing made me feel even worse. Visiting my friends’ Facebook, I found that they were clearly enjoying themselves a lot. (我当然没有把它放在Facebook上——Facebook上那种竞争性分享的文化让我感觉更糟。当我访问我朋友的Facebook时,我发现他们显然玩得很开心)”以及第四段中“Talking to fellow students has made me realize how little resemblance our Facebook lives have to our real ones. (与同学们的交谈让我意识到,我们在Facebook上的生活与现实生活是多么的不一样)”可知,Facebook上人们分享的内容可能并不是真实生活的反映,人们在Facebook上可能表现得比现实中更快乐,Facebook页面可能是一个完全的谎言。故选A。
根据第四段中“I certainly didn’t expect the feeling of loneliness that I experienced because I found it hard to connect with the people on my course. (我当然没有预料到我会经历孤独的感觉,因为我发现很难与课程上的人建立联系)”可知,Jemma在大学里的经历并不轻松愉快,她感到孤独,很难与同学建立联系。因此,当她说“University life wasn’t the walk in the park I had expected”时,她是说大学生活并不像她预期的那样容易或愉快。
根据第五段中““As I walked into my first class, I tried my hardest to smile at everyone and make friends. But I was shocked by how blank some people were. I said to one guy, ‘Wow, LCF, I still can’t believe I’m here’. He replied, ‘Well, LCF is lucky to have me.’ I don’t want to label everyone on the course because there are some lovely people too.”
根据最后一段中“My time at university may not have been the dream that I signed up for, but it has made me who I am. LCF did not provide me with the social experience I dreamed of, but it has made me appreciate the good friends I have kept from my childhood and each new one I have made here. Studying in London was frightening at times, but I have become much more independent as a result.
Even today it still motivates me when I feel that I’m about to lose or give up. It reminds me that I can do it!

“This fashion show was a great success, and better than any dance could be. I think we pushed back the boundaries of fashion,” Mrs Barrett said after the fashion show.

For instance, in his mid-sixties Hillary flew to the North Pole with Neil Armstrong, the first man on the moon. Moreover, Hillary authored many books. However, his most lasting gift, perhaps, was the Sir Edmund Hillary Himalayan Trust It raised millions of dollars and contributed to schools, hospitals and many other public improvements in the Sherpa villages of Nepal. In January 2008, Sir Edmund Hillary died at the age of 88.

根据第一段中“So when I landed an associate professor position, my goal seemed obvious: I should perform big projects. This was the only way to lay a foundation for a successful academic research career. (因此,当我获得副教授职位时,我的目标似乎很明显:我应该执行大项目。这是为成功的学术研究生涯奠定基础的唯一途径)”可知,作者希望通过大项目寻找通往学术成功的道路。故选B项。
22.细节理解题。根据第二段中“But when they learned I had just established my lab, they became skeptical (持怀疑态度的) and hesitant, ultimately saying no. And when I sought grant funding, my lack of experience and reputation was cited as a reason to refuse support for my ambitious proposals. (但当他们得知我刚成立实验室时,态度立刻变得迟疑犹豫,最终拒绝了合作。而当我申请科研经费时,评审方也以我资历尚浅、学术声誉不足为由,拒绝为这些雄心勃勃的提案提供支持)”可知,缺乏必要的合作与资金支持阻碍了大项目的推进。故选A项。

D.That one shouldn’t judge a person based on outward appearances.
根据第一段“An unpleasant smell floated into my nose as the bowl of fried stinky tofu (臭豆腐) settled onto my grandmother’s dinner table. I immediately sat back. The smell ruined my appetite, and I pushed the dish away.(当那碗油炸臭豆腐被放到奶奶的餐桌上时,一股难闻的气味钻进了我的鼻子里。我立刻向后一靠。这股气味破坏了我的食欲,于是我把那盘臭豆腐推开了)”可知,作者最初对臭豆腐的反应是感到恶心并把盘子移开。故选B。
12.细节理解题。根据第五段“He slowly sat next to me and touched my face gently, as a mother would stroke (抚摸) a baby. A wide smile emerged from his blank expression. How beautiful his smile was! I could not help but smile back. My fear disappeared gradually and my muscles relaxed. For the first time, I could see softness and warmth in his eyes.(他缓缓地在我身旁坐下,轻柔地抚摸着我的脸,就像一位母亲轻抚婴儿那样。他那茫然的神情中浮现出一个灿烂的笑容。他的笑容是多么美好啊!我情不自禁地也回以微笑。我的恐惧渐渐消散,肌肉也放松了下来。我第一次在他的眼中看到了温柔与温暖)”可知,作者在一次个人会面中,感受到了叔叔Chan的善意,这使得作者对叔叔Chan的最初印象发生了改变。故选C。
13.细节理解题。根据第四段中“As an immature boy, I never understood my uncle’s condition of Down syndrome (唐氏综合征). He was an unfriendly and terrible creature in my eyes. He constantly walked around the house, talking to himself. Whenever he was within view, I would run away in fear.(作为一个不成熟的男孩,我从来没有理解过我叔叔的唐氏综合症。在我眼里,他是个不友好、可怕的家伙。他经常在房子里走来走去,自言自语。每当他在视线范围内,我都会害怕地跑开)”以及第六段中“Like stinky tofu, my uncle’s Down syndrome made me keep my distance at first. Yet, I learned that deep inside, he is harmless and has a loving nature.(就像臭豆腐一样,我叔叔的唐氏综合症一开始也让我保持距离。然而,我了解到,在内心深处,他是无害的,并且有着爱的天性)”可知,作者起初因为叔叔患有唐氏综合征而害怕他,但后来逐渐了解到他内心深处是无害的,有着爱的天性。故选D。
14.推理判断题。根据第六段“My uncle very much resembles stinky tofu. Stinky tofu smells unpleasant on the outside, yet feels warm and soft on the inside. Like stinky tofu, my uncle’s Down syndrome made me keep my distance at first. Yet, I learned that deep inside, he is harmless and has a loving nature.(我叔叔很像臭豆腐。臭豆腐外面闻起来难闻,但里面却温暖柔软。就像臭豆腐一样,我叔叔的唐氏综合症一开始也让我保持距离。然而,我了解到,在内心深处,他是无害的,并且有着爱的天性)”可知,作者将臭豆腐和叔叔进行比较,是为了强调叔叔的本性是善良和充满爱的,这与臭豆腐外面难闻但里面温暖柔软的特性相似。故选B。
15.主旨大意题。通读全文,再根据最后一段中“Not only is it delicious, stinky tofu offers a valuable lesson: never judge people at first glance, for true beauty comes from the inside.(臭豆腐不仅美味,还给我们上了一堂宝贵的课:永远不要以貌取人,因为真正的美来自内心)”可知,作者想要传达的主要信息是不应该以外表来评判一个人,真正的美来自内心。故选D。
16.What did the author like doing as a child in the garden?
A.Standing in the soil barefoot and painting.
B.Following Dad around and watching him work.
C.Pushing the tiller ahead in straight lines.
D.Growing all kinds of vegetables by himself.
17.The underlined word “invaded” in Paragraph 4 probably means ______.
A.entered B.protected C.left D.cured
18.How did the author’s attitude towards gardening change as he grew into a teenager?
A.He became more interested in it.
B.He lost interest in gardening with his dad.
C.He started to help his dad more actively.
D.His interest in gardening remained the same as before.
19.What can we infer from last paragraph?
A.The author’s son doesn’t like gardening at all.
B.The author’s son will become a great gardener in the future.
C.The author’s son will take care of the garden instead of the author.
D.The author’s son’s behavior made the author think of his own childhood.
20.What is the main idea of the passage?
A.The importance of gardening.
B.The author’s love for tomatoes.
C.The author’s father’s battle with cancer.
D.The author’s memories of his father and the garden.
【答案】16.B 17.A 18.B 19.D 20.D
根据第二段“As a child, I loved following Dad around in the garden. I remember Dad pushing the tiller ahead in perfectly straight lines. (小时候,我喜欢跟着爸爸在花园里转悠。我记得爸爸把翻耕机笔直地向前推。)”可知,作者小时候喜欢跟着爸爸去花园里转悠,看爸爸在那里干活。故选B项。
17.词句猜测题。根据第三段“Even when he had cancer, he still took care of his garden. (即使他得了癌症,他仍然照料他的花园。)”父亲始终在照顾花园,即使患了癌症。根据第四段“I had to do the things he used to do. What really convinced me that Dad was dying was the state of his garden that year. The rows and rows of colorful vegetables were gone. (我不得不做他以前做的事情。真正让我相信爸爸快死了的是他那年花园的状况。一排排五颜六色的蔬菜不见了。)”可知,父亲因为癌症身体变差,以及不能照顾花园,花园状况变差,作者开始接替父亲打理花园。故可推测癌症一点点进入、侵蚀父亲的身体,即动词invaded与选项A的entered“进入”同义, B. protected保护;C. left离开;D. cured治愈,均不符合语境。故选A项。
根据第三段“As I grew into a teenager, I didn’t get so excited about gardening with Dad. Instead of the magical land of possibility, it had turned into some kind of prison. (当我十几岁的时候,我对和爸爸一起园艺并没有那么兴奋。它已经变成了某种监狱,而不是充满可能性的神奇土地。)”可知,青少年时期的作者不再喜欢和爸爸一起去花园干活,即他失去了原有的对花园的兴趣。故选B项。
19.推理判断题。根据最后一段“A few years later, I couldn’t even bear to look at anyone’s garden without having strong memories pour over me like cold water from a bucket. (几年后,我甚至不忍心看着任何人的花园,没有强烈的记忆像水桶里的冷水一样倾泻在我身上。)”可知,几年之后作者的父亲应该去世了,他不愿看别人的花园,应该是不愿想起喜欢园艺的父亲已不在。而根据最后两句“That morning, after breaking up an amount of soil, something caught the corner of my eye and I had to smile. It was my eight-year-old son Jerry, happily playing in the freshly tilled soil. (那天早上,在打碎了一堆泥土后,有什么东西挡住了我的眼角,我不得不微笑。那是我八岁的儿子杰瑞,他在新耕种的土地上快乐地玩耍。)”可知作者终于开始向父亲一样干起园艺的活儿,而他的儿子像他小时候一样喜欢在花园里玩耍,他对此感到开心,这个场景让他想起的不是父亲的去世,而是儿时和父亲一起度过的欢乐时光。故选D项。
20.主旨大意题。根据第一段“My father was always a good gardener. One of my earliest memories is standing without shoes in the freshly tilled (翻耕的) soil, my hands blackened from digging in the ground. (我父亲一直是个好园丁。我最早的记忆之一是不穿鞋子站在新翻耕的土壤里,我的手因在地上挖掘而变黑。)”可知,本文主要讲述的是作者对于父亲和园艺的回忆。故选D项。

11.The underlined sentence in the second paragraph means that ______.

B.the couple hoped to find jobs in the same company
C.neither of the couple had the courage to face difficulty
D.the couple were trying to make their relationship closer
12.Why was it hard for the author to watch her husband blame himself?
A.She was the one that should be blamed.
B.She thought he had tried his best.
C.She thought he would get a job someday.
D.She thought this would remind her of sad memories.
13.We can learn from the text that ______.
A.the couple both found good jobs at last
B.the husband was to blame for losing their house
C.the couple were both worried about joblessness
D.the couple didn’t love each other when they got married
14.Which of the following can best describe the couple’s present life?
A.Bitter but quiet. B.Comfortable and easy.
C.Hard but happy. D.Well-off and relaxing.
15.What might be the best title for the text?
A.We Have It All B.We Find It Again
C.A Perfect Couple D.A Hard Time
11.A 12.B 13.C 14.C 15.A
根据划线句子上文的“With each passing day we were getting increasingly worried and we continued to work together in order to pull our family through.(随着日子一天天过去,我们越来越担心,我们继续一起努力,以使我们的家庭渡过难关)”和下文的“I felt feelings of admiration for my husband that I hadn’t felt in years.(我对丈夫产生了多年来从未有过的钦佩之情)”可知,夫妻俩在共同面对困难时,他们彼此之间的关系变得更加亲密了。所以划线句子“The more we pulled together, the closer we got.” 故填A项。
根据第二段的句子“With each passing day we were getting increasingly worried and we continued to work together in order to pull our family through.(随着日子一天天过去,我们越来越担心,我们继续一起努力,以使我们的家庭渡过难关)”、“I felt feelings of admiration for my husband that I hadn’t felt in years.(我对丈夫产生了多年来从未有过的钦佩之情)”和第三段中的句子“That’s why it was so hard for me to watch him blame himself for our present situation. I continually asked him to stop, but he seemed to want to punish himself for not having a job.(这就是为什么看着他为我们现在的处境自责让我很难受的原因。我不断地让他停下来,但他似乎想因为没有工作而惩罚自己)”可知,作者认为丈夫已经尽力了,所以看到他自责感到很难过。故选B项。
13.细节理解题。根据第二段的句子“We both started looking for jobs right away, but there weren’t any to be found. With each passing day we were getting increasingly worried and we continued to work together in order to pull our family through.(我们俩都马上开始找工作,但没有找到。随着日子一天天过去,我们越来越担心,我们继续一起努力,以使我们的家庭渡过难关)”可知,夫妻俩在丈夫失业后都非常担心找不到工作。故选C项。
14.推理判断题。根据倒数第三段“I smiled at him and put my hands on both sides of his face to make him look me in the eye. “No matter where we live I will be happy - as long as I have you.” I smiled again. In all the struggling together I had found that deep love for him that I had on the day we said “I do”.(我对他微笑,双手放在他的脸两侧,让他看着我的眼睛。“不管我们住在哪里,只要有你在,我都会很幸福。”我又笑了。在一起挣扎的过程中,我发现了对他深深的爱,就像我们说“我愿意”的那天一样)”和最后一段中的句子“We are still struggling for our better life, but I consider us well-off because we have something that money can’t buy and no one can take away from us.(我们仍在为更好的生活而奋斗,但我认为我们很富有,因为我们拥有金钱买不到、别人也夺不走的东西)”可知,尽管他们的生活仍然很艰难,但他们感到幸福。故选C项。
根据文章内容,特别是第四段的句子“Finally, one afternoon I pulled him aside and said, “We have four healthy children. That’s what’s important. That makes you a rich man.”(终于,一天下午,我把他拉到一边说:“我们有四个健康的孩子。这才是最重要的。你是富裕的。”)”可知,本文主要讲述了作者的家庭因为失业变得艰辛,但是拥有四个健康的孩子和彼此,等于拥有了全部,这是最大的财富。因此,选项A“We Have It All(我们拥有一切)”最能概括文章的主旨,强调尽管面临困难,但他们拥有最重要的东西——家庭和彼此的爱。故选A项。
