Clearly, the number one reason that people choose to work with a GPS unit is the feeling of freedom. With a GPS unit in your pocket or car, you can find your way easily. If you do get lost, then the GPS will quickly find a new route (路线) for you.
Besides, having a GPS unit is like bringing every single map of the world along with you! It knows where famous buildings are and the best routes to them. And you will always know exactly where you are, down to the mile.
However, GPS has some shortcomings as well. For example, a GPS unit may take you into a traffic jam, go offline if a satellite fails, or run out of batteries (电池). Some GPS units may even take you around in circles, wasting your time.
While GPS has its draws, many people still prefer traditional maps. They don’t require any power, so people don’t need to worry about getting lost after running out of batteries. In this case, old-fashioned maps seem to be the winner for remote travel.
Maps are also easy to draw on, making it effortless to mark destinations (目的地) or plan routes. You can even give the map away or let someone borrow it without fear of losing an expensive device.
Even so, traditional maps also have some problems. They can get outdated, be easily broken, and go missing unexpectedly. And people need to bring their own light source and plan routes themselves.
In a word, both GPS and paper maps have their pros and cons (利弊), so it’s up to you to decide which method is better to use. No matter which one you choose, be sure to travel safely and enjoy the trip.
31. What can GPS do when you’re lost according to the passage?
A. Send a signal for help. B. Remind you get lost.
C. Re-plan the route. D. Reconnect with the satellite.
32. Why do traditional maps seem to be the winner for remote travel?
A. They don’t depend on battery power. B. They are lighter to carry.
C. They allow for easy marking. D. They help people find the better route.
33. What is the common problem that GPS and paper maps have?
A. They both need an internet connection. B. They can sometimes lead to wrong routes.
C. They are equally expensive. D. They cannot be used in remote areas.
34. What does the word underlined word “effortless” mean?
A. very interesting B. very serious C. very expensive D. very easy
35. Which of the following might the author agree with?
A. We should learn more about GPS.
B. Technology has completely changed our life.
C. Traditional tools can no longer meet our needs.
D. Arriving safely is more important than how you arrive.

The Flower Goddesses: A Dance of Beauty and Culture
The 2026 CCTV Spring Festival Gala presented a wonderful dance program called He Hua Shen (Ode to the Flower Goddesses). It was not just a dance; it was a beautiful story about traditional Chinese culture. Many people, especially the young, loved it and called it the most wonderful show of the evening.
The dance was inspired by a beautiful jade pendant (玉佩) from the Qing Dynasty in the Palace Museum. This pendant had special flowers carved (雕刻) on it for each month of the year. Following this idea, the dance told stories of the “Twelve Flower Goddesses”. Each goddess stood for a different flower. These flowers are not just pretty; they carry deep cultural meanings in China, such as purity (纯洁),strength, and good luck.
The show was a perfect mix of the old and the new. The dancers wore beautiful costumes (演出服) with ancient patterns. Their designs came from real clothes found in museums, so they looked very historical. The stage, however, used modern technology like AI to create magical backgrounds. For example, when the peach blossom (桃花) goddess appeared, the stage looked like a garden full of peach trees. This clever use of technology made the ancient story feel fresh and exciting.
He Hua Shen was more than just entertainment. It helped people learn about Chinese history, poems, and art in a fun way. By connecting traditional culture with modern stage skills, the program made young people feel proud of their heritage (遗产). D. A historical drama about the “Twelve Flower Goddesses”.
37. Why does the author say that the flowers in the dance “carry deep cultural meanings”?
A. Because they are very beautiful and colorful.

C. Because they are rare and difficult to grow.
D. Because they were carved on a valuable jade pendant.
38. The stage looked like a garden full of peach trees when ________.
A. the program first started
B. the peach blossom goddess appeared
C. all the dancers finished dancing

31 What can GPS do when you’re lost according to the passage?
A. very interesting B. very serious C. very expensive D. very easy

【答案】例文
Last Saturday afternoon, I was reading on a bench in the park when I saw a little boy crying. He was about five years old and seemed lost. He asked me for help. I comforted him and learned he couldn’t find his mom. Then I took him to the park’s broadcasting station. The staff made an announcement. Soon, his mother arrived. She was very thankful and expressed her gratitude to everyone.
I felt warm and happy. Helping others not only makes them happy but also brings joy to ourselves. A small act of kindness can make a big difference.
