Simone Biles was a bright, bouncy little girl. She couldn’t sit still, and her favorite place was the trampoline (蹦床) in her grandparents’, backyard, where she jumped and twisted (扭动) in the air for hours.
Simone was born in 1997. When she was 6 years old, her day-care group went on a field trip to a gym. Simone loved watching the gymnasts train and perform. She couldn’t just watch them, though-she had to try their moves. She was so good that one of the coaches sent a letter home with her, inviting Simone to take gymnastics (体操) classes.
Simone loved the classes, and she was excellent at climbing, swinging and jumping. She had a lot to learn, though. Most of the gymnasts in her class had started lessons when they began to learn to walk. At 6, Simone was the oldest child in her class. But that would change quickly.
Several times a year, the gym held exhibitions to demonstrate the gymnasts’ skills. At one of these, young gymnasts had to climb 10 feet up a rope, using just their arms and holding their legs straight in front of them. Simone was so strong that she climbed 20 feet into the air.
At 9, Simone learned why she couldn’t sit still: She had ADHD(多动症). Her brain moved fast and her body did too, which made it hard for her to concentrate in school. “The challenges we face help us become who we are, ” Simone wrote. “My challenge is also my superpower: ADHD. ” Simone’s superpower would help make her one of the most brilliant gymnasts ever seen.
At age 16, she won two gold medals at the Artistic Gymnastics World Championships, including the all-around. She has now won 25 world medals, 19 of them gold. That’s the most in world gymnastics history. So outstanding is she that several signature moves have been named after Simone.
4. What does the underlined word “bouncy” in paragraph 1 mean?
A. Confident. B. Active. C. Curious. D. Gifted.
5. What does the writer want to show with the exhibition in paragraph 4?
A. Simone liked to show off.
B Simone didn’t need to learn more.
C How excellently Simone performed.
D. Why Simone fell behind her classmates.
6. What does the last paragraph focus on?
A. Simone’s superpower.
B. Simone’s signature moves.
C. Simone’s great achievements.
D. Simone’s experience in competitions.
7. What does Simone’s story convey?
A. Practice makes perfect.
B. Interest is the best teacher.
C. Talent is the key to success.
D. Challenges can be superpower.
【答案】4. B 5. C 6. C 7. D

【7题详解】
推理判断题。根据倒数第二段“At 9, Simone learned why she couldn’t sit still: She had ADHD(多动症). Many people wonder when the best time to exercise is. Experts have different opinions about morning, evening and afternoon workouts. To explore these differences further, let’s look at the benefits of exercising at different times of the day.
Dr. Jagim from Mayo Clinic Health System says, “Morning workouts make you feel like you do something good and start the day on a happy note.” After a morning workout, people feel good because of endorphins (内啡肽). Also, mornings are usually free from other things to do, allowing people to enjoy their afternoons and evenings without worrying about exercise. For morning workouts, Dr. Jagim says, “Eating a varied breakfast with carbohydrates, protein, and healthy fats is important. This gives energy for the workout.”
“However, for some people, waking up early to exercise is the last thing they feel like doing, and therefore, the case for evening workouts is more attractive. Your body works best in the early evening.” says Jake Erickson, a sports medicine specialist. “This is a good time to exercise. During this time, your body has time to wake up a bit by moving around throughout the day. Also, your body uses oxygen better in the evening. This helps you use your energy more efficiently when you exercise.”
A study with over 90,000 people found that exercising in the afternoon is better for your heart and helps you live longer than exercising in the morning or evening. This is especially true for older people. Dr. Gende, emergency physician at Mayo Clinic Health System, says that morning workouts might not be good for people who work late shifts or stay up late. For them, it’s better to sleep more in the morning and then do a workout in the middle of the day or early afternoon before their next shift.
While science gives ideas, experts agree the best time matches personal plans and energy. Consistency is more important than timing.
8. What does Dr. Jagim recommend for morning workouts?
A. Taking in more fats. B. Having a healthy breakfast
C. Drinking enough water. D. Avoiding staying up late the night before.
9. What might Jake Erickson agree with?
A. Early evening workouts suit late risers.
B. The later night exercisers wake up, the better.
C. All people’s bodies work best in the late evening.
D. Morning workouts set a positive tone for night workers.
10. Which group benefits most from afternoon workouts according to the study?
A. Young women. B. Teenagers C. Children. D. Older people
11. Which of the following is the best title for the text?
A. When is the Best Time to Exercise?
B. What is Important for a Healthy Body?
C. What Role Does Food Play During Workouts?
D. Why is Evening Exercise Good for Everyone?

Yet family members are there for you whenever you need them.(建立健康的家庭关系对所有类型的家庭来说都至关重要。

My parents do a lot of embarrassing things! Usually, it’s my dad who sings silly songs or tells jokes around my friends. But a few weeks ago, it was my mother who played the embarrassing-parent role.
While my mom and I were shopping, we ran into my teacher, who mentioned the school didn’t have a music teacher to help our class put together a performance for Winter Fair. And, then my mom said, “I know the perfect song and dance. I’ll teach it to the kids!”
Before I could say “Please don’t”, my mom had agreed to come to my class every morning at 9:30 for a week. Oh, and just to be clear, it’s not as if she’s a professional entertainer. My parents run a small grocery store, and the only singing my mom does is in the shower.
“Mom,” I said on our way home, “Are you sure this is such a good idea?” “Of course!” she said. “If we want your school Winter Fair to happen, people need to step up and volunteer.” She laughed, “We will have fun!”
“OK, kids!” my teacher said at 9:28 on Monday. “We’re going to stop silent reading a little early today because a special guest is here to help us with a performance for Winter Fair. Let’s all welcome Arizona’s mother.”
I looked up to discover my mom standing in the front of the room wearing the world’s silliest hat. “I’m super excited to be here with you!” my mom said, “I’m going to teach you a fun little song-and-dance performance I learned a few years ago. Here goes!” Oh please, oh please, I said over and over in my head, let there be a fire drill, or a power failure, or anything to stop my mom from completely embarrassing herself-and me!
But apparently, my mom was not at all concerned about looking silly. She turned on some background music and started singing and dancing away.
注意:1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

My mom turned out to be very good at performing.
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】One Possible Version
“I can’t believe this is happening” was all I could think. I closed my eyes, covered my ears and shrank as low as I possibly could in my chair. After a few seconds, though. I gathered courage to uncover one ear and peek through a half-open eye. That’s when I saw the expression of pure joy on my mom’s face. She was having so much fun that I couldn’t help smiling. My classmates clapped and cheered, and I heard someone say, “Wow! Arizona’s mother is pretty talented!”
My mom turned out to be very good at performing. She was also good at teaching us the song and the dance steps. too. We learned quickly. By the time of the fair, I was actually proud of her for putting herself out there for us kids. Our performance at the Winter Fair was a huge success. As we drove home, I said to my mom, “I’m really glad you volunteered to help my class with the performance.” My mom reached back and squeezed my hand. “Thanks for saying that. I can see why you might have been embarrassed, but I had such a great time.”

Several times a year the gym held exhibitions to demonstrate the gymnasts’ skills. At one of these, young gymnasts had to climb 10 feet up a rope, using just their arms and holding their legs straight in front of them. Simone was so strong that she climbed 20 feet into the air.

A study with over 90000 people found that exercising in the afternoon is better for your heart and helps you live longer than exercising in the morning or evening.
