Whatever your version of paradise, get ready to be blown away by the most beautiful islands in the world. Maldives Holding the largest number of overwater-bungalow resorts in the world, the Maldives understands its greatest treasure is the abundant waters of the Indian Ocean. When you’re not diving or gazing at the rich marine life, continue enjoying the underwater display while dining at 5.8 Undersea Restaurant — or even while relaxing in a submerged spa. Santorini, Greece Possibly the location of the storied island of Atlantis, Santorini is the stuff of screensavers and wall calendars. Red, black-and white-sand beaches surround its caldera lake — one of the largest in the world — while iconic buildings overlook the Aegean Sea. Photo opportunities are everywhere, from centuries-old windmills and ancient ruins to blue-domed churches. Bali, Indonesia What’s most stunning in Bali? Dazzling beaches like Nusa Dua? Ubud’s terraced rice fields, sacred forest and ancient monuments? Or the island’s 10,000 well-preserved temples? Experience all of the above, and decide for yourself. The Land of the Gods also boasts a loveliness that is more than skin-deep, thanks to its warm people and inclusive spirituality. Bora Bora, the Islands of Tahiti Every imaginable shade of blue appears in the lagoon of Bora Bora, also known as the Jewel of the South Seas. Coral reefs ring the main island and beneath the surface, dolphins, turtles, and colorful fish throng. Overlooking it all is the moss-green volcanic peak of Mount Otemanu where God came down to the island on a rainbow, according to a local tale. Timeless grass-skirted dancers and overwater bungalows complement the breathtaking scene on the exotic island. 21. What can visitors do in the Maldives? A. Visit the ancient ruins of Atlantis. B. Watch grass-skirted local dancers. C. Have a meal in an undersea restaurant. D. Appreciate the beaches and terraced rice fields. 22. What do Santorini and Bali have in common? A. What can we know about Bora Bora from the passage? A. It is known as the Land of the Gods. B. There goes a beautiful legend about the island. C. It is most famous for coral reefs and marine life. D. It has the largest amount of overwater bungalows. B One sunny Saturday last August, Jacob Bell and his friend were fishing on a Texas lake. As they headed back to shore, Jacob heard screaming. He sped towards a girl waving desperately in deep water. When he got closer, he was shocked to see she was grasping the foot of another girl submerged upside down. Jacob grabbed the unconscious teenager and pulled her onto his boat. She wasn’t breathing. Her face, lips, and ears were ghostly blue. Just six months earlier, Jacob had taken a first-aid course required for his truck-driving job. He began pumping her chest feverishly. Water spurted from her mouth, but her eyes rolled back. Jacob kept pushing until finally, she took a deep breath and opened her eyes. Fifteen-year-old Genesis Delgado was alive. The media branded Jacob a hero, but he felt uncomfortable with the praise. “I just did what I needed to do,” he told his wife. Six weeks later, while driving his truck, Jacob noticed power lines bending and spotted smoke. A car had hit a pole, flipped over, and was on fire. He grabbed a fire extinguisher and rushed down. When the extinguisher ran out, he broke the window with it. Reaching inside, he found an elderly man hanging upside down, still stuck in the seat belt. Jacob cut it with his pocketknife, held the man, and pulled him from the burning car. He performed CPR until paramedics (医护人员) arrived. The man survived. This time, when the press affectionately called him “a two-time hero”, Jacob didn’t object. He was ready to share his full story. “I have ever made many terrible mistakes. Even I have been in prison,” he explained, “But I never gave up on myself. After I saved them, I felt proud for the first time in my life. Maybe this is God’s way of showing that anyone, no matter how far they’ve fallen, can find a meaning in their life if they work hard and believe in themselves.” Wiping away tears, he added, “Someone said I saved more than two lives last year. I get it now. I also saved myself.” 24. What contributed to the survival of the drowning girl? A. Timely arrival of the paramedics. B. The assistance from Jacob’s friend. C. Help from another girl in deep water. D. The first-aid training Jacob had taken. 25. What can we know about the elderly man according to the passage? A. He was trapped upside down in the car. B. He broke the car window before Jacob saved him. C. He managed to unfasten his seat belt but failed to escape. D. He was sent to hospital after Jacob performed CPR on him. 26. What does Jacob mean by saying “I also saved myself”? A. He also earned his own sense of self-worth. B. He saved himself in both dangerous rescues. C. He was no longer guilty for his previous mistakes. D. He became famous overnight after the two rescues. 27. Which of the following can be the best title? A. Learning to Save: A Story of CPR and Courage B. Two Miracles on a Texas Lake: The Jacob Story C. Truck Driver’s Daily Duties: Rescue and Recovery D. From Fallen to Famous: How a Hero Found Himself C For years, scientists have studied the brain to understand mental health. But a new study suggests we should also look much lower — at the stomach. Often called the “second brain”, our digestive system has its own complex nervous system. Now, research reveals a surprising link between the electrical activity in our stomach and our mental well-being. Both the stomach and the brain constantly produce low-level electrical waves. The study was conducted by a team from Aarhus University in Denmark and the German Institute of Human Nutrition. The researchers hope that certain mental health issues might eventually be diagnosed more precisely, or earlier, via stomach signals. The researchers were able to obtain full brain scan data (across 209 brain regions), full stomach scan data, and mental health questionnaires for 199 participants, and this information was then statistically analyzed to look for links. When the brain’s electrical waves and the stomach’s electrical waves were more in tune with each other, the individual was more likely to report symptoms (症状) of anxiety, depression, and stress. In contrast, weaker coupling was associated with better mental well-being. The data isn’t enough to show that the stomach activity directly set off mental illness or vice versa (反之亦然), and we don’t know yet why these connections exist. However, the finding builds on existing knowledge. Past research has linked this “second brain” to conditions such as autism and Parkinson’s disease. It can be tricky to accurately diagnose mental health problems. Symptoms can be similar, and people may not recognize or report their symptoms accurately. Thus having a biological marker — a new measurable sign, for a more precise diagnosis would be very useful. In the future it might even be possible to help treat mental health problems by regulating the stomach’s rhythms, but that’s a long way off. For now, the researchers want to gather more data on bigger and more diverse groups to see if these patterns can be replicated. 28. For what purpose did the researchers conduct the study? A. To prove a theory about the human brain. B. To clarify the complex nervous system of human beings. C. To show that regulating the stomach’s rhythms is significant. D. To make more accurate or earlier diagnoses of mental disorders. 29. What does the underlined word in paragraph 3 mean? A. Influence. B. Connection. C. Function. D. Activity. 30. What can be inferred from paragraph 4 and 5? A. Current diagnostic methods are of little use. B. The stomach activity results in mental illness. C. The potential value of the findings in the study is noticeable. D. Mental health problems can not really be solved at present days. 31. What is the author’s attitude towards the prospect of the research? A. Skeptical. B. Cautious. C. Uncaring. D. Pessimistic. D Oceanic manta rays (蝠鲼) — the largest species of ray — may dive more than 1,200 metres deep to navigate the ocean, according to a new study published in the journal Frontiers in Marine Science. Scientists tagged (给……加标签) 24 mantas in Raja Ampat, Indonesia; the Tumbes, Peru; and near Whangaroa, New Zealand, and then reviewed the data. They noticed that the rays were more likely to dive extremely deep off the coast of New Zealand: of the 2,705 tag-days of data collected, mantas dived to more than 500 metres on 79 days — 71 of these dives were around New Zealand. “Far offshore, oceanic manta rays are capable of diving to depths greater than 1,200 metres, far deeper than previously thought,” says Calvin Beale from Murdoch University in Perth, Australia, one of the study authors. The rays’ diving patterns offered a clue to the behaviour. The rays in New Zealand typically did a huge dive the day after entering deeper waters off the continental shelf. They swam sharply down but didn’t spend time at these depths, suggesting they weren’t feeding or avoiding predators. After returning to the surface, some swam more than 190km in the following days. One reason to dip so far below the surface could be that the mantas are picking up signals about where they are, such as changes in the Earth’s magnetic field, or in oxygen, temperature and light levels. “These dives, which are linked with increased horizontal travel, may play an important role in helping mantas gather information about their environment,” says Beale. “By diving and ‘sampling’ these signals, they could build a mental map that helps them navigate across vast, featureless stretches of open ocean.” In deeper waters, these clues can be more stable and predictable than at the surface, the scientists say. More research is needed, but the study “reminds us that the deep ocean — which regulates Earth’s climate — remains poorly understood but vitally important,” says Beale. 32. How did the scientists conduct the research? A. They did field research. B. They did experimental research. C. They analysed data obtained first-hand. D. They re-examined findings in previous researches. 33. What can be inferred from the rays’ dives? A. They dive into the deep sea to avoid predators. B. It’s easier for them to hunt for food in the deep sea. C. Diving in the deep sea helps them signal to peers better. D. The environment-related information collected helps them navigate. 34. Which of the following can describe the study according to Beale? A. Fully explored but rarely valued. B. Carefully studied but barely functional. C. Under-researched but critically essential. D. Well-understood and extremely significant. 35. What is the author’s main purpose in writing the passage? A. To present a new study’s findings on manta rays’ deep dives. B. To highlight the importance of further research on manta rays. C. To explain how manta rays build mental maps for long-distance travel. D. To compare the diving patterns of manta rays in different marine regions. When mastering a foreign language, many people believe that talent is the key to success. You’ve probably heard someone say, “I’m just not good at languages.” But is this really true? ____36____ The short answer: Talent plays a minor role. Finally, take full advantage of immersive learning by watching shows in your target language or changing your phone’s language settings. ____40____ Research shows that consistency, persistence, and effective strategies are the true keys to success. Language learning isn’t about being born gifted — it’s about showing up and doing the work every day. A. Do you need natural talent to master a language? B. You can’t master a language without repeated practice. C. Hard work combined with talent without doubt pays off. D. Consistency is vitally important in language learning as well. E. It means regular exposure to listening, speaking, reading and writing. F. In short, the idea that talent is necessary to master a language is simply a myth. G. While natural talent might give some a head start, it’s far from the deciding factor. For weeks, Shumaker’s 4-year-old daughter Aubree had been asking for a “real piano keyboard.” It was Christmas Eve. Her children lived far away, and friends had moved after retiring. Last week, her daughter Jacquie had mentioned video calls. “If you were online, Mum, we could talk face to face.” The local paper caught her eye — an advertisement for a shop that installed computers and internet connections. “I cannot allow fear to limit my life,” she decided. But when the computer arrived, Joy stood frozen, panic rising. She was completely stuck. A thump against the window made her jump. Young Liam from next door stood on her doorstep, pink-faced, seeking his football. His parents were at work, leaving him alone during the long holidays. Joy offered him ice cream. Soon they sat in her garden, and she asked hesitantly, “Liam, are you any good with computers?” He was completely an expert, fingers flying over the keyboard. By afternoon, Joy had an email account. After sending a message to Jacquie successfully, she sat back, grinning with success. From then on, Liam returned several times, teaching her more. “You must think I was silly to be afraid,” she said one afternoon. He shrugged. “No one likes feeling stupid.” She noticed his face darkened, “Are you worried about that too?” He admitted anxiety about moving into the advanced class at school. “The others will think I’m stupid.” “If I can learn new things at my age, you certainly can. It’s all about confidence.” “Have you video-called your daughter yet?” Liam asked days later. “Yes, it was wonderful. Have you spoken to your mum?” He nodded. “She told me not to worry about my class.” “Good. Believe in yourself, and others will believe in you.” On the first day of the term, Liam raced for the school bus. He gave Joy a thumbs-up and shouted “Come on!” Hearing this, Joy waved at him, “Thanks. You, too!” Liam’s mother Karen came up. “You boosted Liam’s confidence.” “I should thank him,” Joy protested. “He’s taught me so much.” His mom cast a confused look at Joy, “But why did he cheer you on?” Joy beamed. “I’ve signed up for a computing course for seniors. Starting today.” Para 1 Joy sat in a classroom full of nervous seniors. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Para 2 Meanwhile, Liam sat in the new classroom, glancing nervously around. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 高三英语 第一部分 听力(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共5小题;每小题1.5分,满分7.5分) 听下面5段录音。 How much is the shirt? How many subjects were involved in the study? A. 60. B. 40. C. 20. 20. What does Dr. Zee advise people to do? A. Sleep in the dark. B. Measure blood sugar levels. C. Reduce the use of sleep medicine. C 19. C 20. W: Well, everyone knows that good sleep is important for our health. Not everyone knows how important it is to sleep in darkness. A new report says sleeping with the light on could be bad for our health. Researchers said around 40 percent of people sleep with some sort of artificial light. They said even light from a television or an alarm clock could affect our health. Sleeping without any light is more difficult for people who live in cities, where there is a lot of outdoor light at night. The researchers are from the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, U. S. A. The lead researcher, Dr. Phyllis Zee, is an expert in sleep medicine. Her team conducted a study of the blood sugar levels of 20 people after nights of sleep. The people who slept with a light on had higher blood sugar levels the next morning compared to those who slept in total darkness. Dr. Zee said this is because light stimulates brain activity, which raises blood sugar levels. She said there are three things we can do to reduce the risk of illness: turn off the lights, use a light-blocking curtain and wear an eye mask. A If you’ve seen an island on a postcard, it’s probably on this list. From Fallen to Famous: How a Hero Found Himself 【答案】24. D 25. A 26. A 27. 根据第一段中“Just six months earlier, Jacob had taken a first-aid course required for his truck-driving job. He began pumping her chest feverishly. Water spurted from her mouth, but her eyes rolled back. Jacob kept pushing until finally, she took a deep breath and opened her eyes.(就在六个月前,Jacob参加了他卡车司机工作所需的急救课程。他开始拼命地按压她的胸部。水从她嘴里喷出来,但她的眼睛向后翻。Jacob一直按压,直到最后,她深吸了一口气,睁开了眼睛)”可知,溺水女孩能够存活是因为Jacob参加了急救课程并正确实施了心肺复苏。故选D。 【25题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段中“Reaching inside, he found an elderly man hanging upside down, still stuck in the seat belt. Jacob cut it with his pocketknife, held the man, and pulled him from the burning car.(把手伸进去,他发现一位老人倒挂着,仍然卡在安全带里。Jacob用他的小刀割断安全带,抱住老人,把他从燃烧的汽车里拉了出来)”可知,这位老人当时是倒挂在车内的。故选A。 根据最后两段中“‘I have ever made many terrible mistakes. Even I have been in prison,’ he explained, ‘But I never gave up on myself. After I saved them, I felt proud for the first time in my life. Maybe this is God’s way of showing that anyone, no matter how far they’ve fallen, can find a meaning in their life if they work hard and believe in themselves.’(‘我曾经犯过很多可怕的错误。我甚至进过监狱,’他解释道,‘但我从未放弃自己。在我救了他们之后,我有生以来第一次感到骄傲。也许这是上帝在表明,任何人,无论堕落到什么程度,只要努力并相信自己,都能找到人生的意义。’)”及“Someone said I saved more than two lives last year. I get it now. I also saved myself.(有人说我去年救了不止两条命。我现在明白了。我也救了我自己)”可知,Jacob过去犯过错误,人生处于低谷,但两次救人让他第一次感到骄傲,找到了人生的意义。因此,“我也救了我自己”指的是他通过救人,找到了自我价值,实现了精神上的自我救赎。故选A。 D“From Fallen to Famous: How a Hero Found Himself(从堕落走向成名:一位英雄如何找到自我)”既概括了Jacob的经历,又突出了他从人生低谷到获得自我价值的心路历程,能概括文章主旨。故选D。 C For years, scientists have studied the brain to understand mental health. D 29. B 30. C 31. 根据第二段“The researchers hope that certain mental health issues might eventually be diagnosed more precisely, or earlier, via stomach signals.(研究人员希望,通过胃部信号,某些心理健康问题最终能得到更精准或更早的诊断。)” 根据第三段“When the brain’s electrical waves and the stomach’s electrical waves were more in tune with each other, the individual was more likely to report symptoms of anxiety, depression, and stress. In contrast, weaker coupling was associated with better mental well-being.(当大脑电波和胃部电波更协调时,个体更有可能报告焦虑、抑郁和压力的症状。相比之下,较弱的coupling与更好的心理健康相关。)”,结合上下文提到的“胃部电活动与心理健康之间的联系”,可推知“coupling”意为“联系、耦合”,与“Connection”意思相近。故选B。 【30题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段“However, the finding builds on existing knowledge. Past research has linked this ‘second brain’ to conditions such as autism and Parkinson’s disease.(然而,这一发现建立在现有知识的基础上。过去的研究已将这种‘第二大脑’与自闭症和帕金森病等病症联系起来。)”以及第五段“Thus having a biological marker — a new measurable sign, for a more precise diagnosis would be very useful.(因此,拥有一个生物标志物——一种新的可测量的迹象,用于更精准的诊断将非常有用。)” 根据最后一段“In the future it might even be possible to help treat mental health problems by regulating the stomach’s rhythms, but that’s a long way off. For now, the researchers want to gather more data on bigger and more diverse groups to see if these patterns can be replicated.(未来甚至有可能通过调节胃部节律来帮助治疗心理健康问题,但这还有很长的路要走。目前,研究人员希望收集更多来自更大、更多样化群体的数据,以验证这些模式是否可以复制。)”可知,作者既提到了未来的可能性,也强调了当前仍需更多研究,态度是谨慎的。故选B。 D Oceanic manta rays (蝠鲼) — the largest species of ray — may dive more than 1,200 metres deep to navigate the ocean, according to a new study published in the journal Frontiers in Marine Science. 32. C 33. D 34. C 35. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】范文 Joy sat in a classroom full of nervous seniors. When asked to open her email, she found her mind went blank — she couldn’t even remember her password. Panic surged, driving her to the depth of despair. After a while, she said to herself, “Liam taught me this.” Joy breathed deeply, visualised his steps, and typed carefully — her mailbox appeared. Beside her, a grey-haired man sighed in frustration. “Lost again.” Joy leaned over. “Let me help — I just learned myself.” As she guided him, warmth spread through her. “I’m not just learning,” she realised, “I’m helping too.” Meanwhile, Liam sat in the new classroom, glancing nervously around. When the teacher wrote a complex equation, his stomach clenched. All of a sudden, he remembered Joy’s words: Believe in yourself. He raised his hand. “Could you explain that again?” The teacher smiled warmly, and several students cast a grateful glimpse at Liam — they hadn’t understood either. After class, a boy said, “You are amazing!” Liam grinned. That afternoon, he found Joy in her garden. “How was your first day?” they asked together, and then laughed. “We survived,” Joy said. “More than survived,” Liam corrected. “We belonged.” 词汇激活 行为类 ①打开邮箱:open her email/access her mailbox/log into her email account ②深呼吸:breathed deeply/take a deep breath ③俯身:lean over/bend down 情绪类 ①绝望:despair/hopelessness/extreme upset ②沮丧:frustration/discouragement/disappointment 【点睛】【高分句型1】When asked to open her email, she found her mind went blank — she couldn’t even remember her password.
