Unit 7 The value of money 课题 Lesson 3:Money talks 课型 Reading and grammar I.Teaching Objectives 1. Knowledge Objectives Students will master the key vocabulary: exchange, afford, achieve, goal, college, peace, wisely, responsibly, grateful. Students will understand the concept of money as a “medium of exchange” and its role in daily life. Students will learn to use attributive clauses to express opinions about money (e.g., “Money is something that we use to buy things”). 2. Ability Objectives Students will be able to discuss the importance of money and its limitations in English. Students will develop listening and reading skills through the dialogue in Lesson 3. Students will practice critical thinking by analyzing how money can be used wisely and responsibly. 3. Emotional & Value Objectives Students will develop a healthy attitude toward money—recognizing that money is a tool, not a goal. Students will learn the importance of being grateful for what they have and using money to help others. Students will reflect on how money can contribute to personal goals (e.g., going to college) and inner peace. II. Teaching Key Points Key vocabulary: exchange, afford, achieve, goal, college, peace, wisely, responsibly, grateful. Understanding the dialogue between Ms. Liu and the students about the nature and value of money. Using attributive clauses to describe money and its functions. III. Teaching Difficult Points Helping students distinguish between “afford” and “achieve” in practical contexts. Guiding students to express abstract concepts (e.g., “peace,” “responsibly”) in English. Encouraging students to think critically about the quote: “Don’t think money does everything, or you are going to end up doing everything for money.” IV. Teaching Procedures Step 1: Warm-up & Lead-in (5 minutes) Activity: Show pictures of different forms of money (shells, coins, paper money, digital currency). Ask: “What is money? Why do we need it?” Purpose: Activate prior knowledge and introduce the topic. Step 2: Vocabulary Presentation (10 minutes) Activity: Use sentences and visuals to teach the target words: “We exchange money for goods and services.” “I can’t afford this phone; it’s too expensive.” “She worked hard to achieve her goal of entering college.” “Using money wisely brings peace of mind.” “We should use money responsibly and be grateful for what we have.” Practice: Matching exercises and fill-in-the-blanks with the new words. Step 3: Listening & Reading (15 minutes) Activity 1: Listen to the dialogue in Lesson 3 (Ms. Liu and students). Students answer: What is money according to Ms. Liu? Why is money important? What can’t money buy? Activity 2: Read the dialogue aloud in pairs. Focus on pronunciation and intonation. Activity 3: True/False questions based on the dialogue (e.g., “Money can buy happiness.”– False). Step 4: Language Focus (10 minutes) Attributive Clauses: Example: “Money is something that we use to buy things.” Practice: Students create their own sentences using “that/who” to describe money. Key Sentences from the Dialogue: “Money is a medium of exchange.” “Without money, it would be hard to afford food and clothes.” Step 5: Group Discussion & Critical Thinking (10 minutes) Activity: Divide students into small groups. Discuss: How can we use money wisely? What does it mean to use money responsibly? What are you grateful for that money can’t buy? Output: Each group shares one idea with the class. Step 6: Summary & Reflection (5 minutes) Review the key vocabulary and main ideas of the lesson. Emphasize: “Money is a tool, not a master. Use it wisely, responsibly, and be grateful.” V. Homework Assignment 1. Consolidation Homework (Required, 10 minutes) Write 5 sentences using the target vocabulary: exchange, afford, achieve, goal, college, peace, wisely, responsibly, grateful. Complete the exercises in the workbook for Lesson 3. 2. Expansion Homework (Required, 15 minutes) Write a short paragraph (60–80 words) about: “How I plan to use my pocket money wisely.”Include at least 3 target words. 3. Creative Homework (Optional) Design a poster titled “Money Talks: Use It Wisely!”with slogans and pictures. Present it in the next class. VI. Teaching Resources Textbook: Jijiao Edition Grade 8, Semester 2, Unit 7, Lesson 3. Multimedia: PPT slides, audio recording of the dialogue, pictures of currency. Worksheets: Vocabulary matching, true/false questions, discussion prompts. VII. Teaching Reflection (To be completed after the lesson) Were students able to use the target vocabulary correctly? Did the discussion activities encourage critical thinking about money? How can the lesson be improved to better address the “difficult points”? 板书设计 Lesson 3: Money talks 教学反思 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
