The Strange Slope (斜坡) is a natural place to travel in China's
Liaoning Province. And there is a strange situation that causes things to
go uphill and prevents them from going downhill.
The Strange Slope area was discovered in 1990. It's said that a
policeman found the Strange Slope. When he drove down the slope and
stopped his car in the area, he noticed that his car slowly went to the
top of the hill. The strange news spread quickly.
Soon, many people came to see the slope in person.
The local government cleaned the place up and
10
made a road for bikes and cars. And then the Strange Slope became one
of the most popular areas in Liaoning Province.
Many people have their opinions about the causes of the Strange
Slope. Some believe our eyes are cheating us, because they find the area
around Strange Slope is downhill, but the other area is actually uphill.
This area is 80 meters long and 15 meters wide, so people's eyes can't
see the difference between these two areas and think the uphill slope
might be the downhill. But some people guess the magnetic field (磁场)
may cause the Strange Slope. Others even think there might be magic in
this place.
Today, although many scientists have studied this place, the reason
of forming the Strange Slope is still a mystery (谜).#1.4
