Interested in learning a new language but don’t know where to start? Here are the best online language learning courses we’ve put together for your reference.
Rosetta Stone
Price: $7.99 per month — $199 one-time payment
Number of languages: 28
Rosetta Stone has long been known as the go-to service for new language learners. It offers lessons that are short enough to complete each day, but long enough to actually get something out of. Rosetta Stone’s interface (界面) is generally easy to use, and its lessons include reading, writing, speaking and listening, all in one lesson. You can also choose to subscribe (订阅) to a monthly payment or purchase a lifetime license.
Duolingo
Price: Free — $6.99 per month
Number of languages: 36
Duolingo has risen as a serious competitor to Rosetta Stone over the past few years. The service is perhaps best known for its Android and iOS apps and those apps are available for free, which makes it easy to practice your chosen language without having to make a serious commitment. Alternatively, you can sign up for Duolingo Plus, which removes ads, offers offline courses, and more. Many consider Duolingo to be better for those who want to practice a language rather than learning from the very beginning.
Babbel
Price: $6.95 per month — $12.95 per month
Number of languages: 14
Looking for a service to challenge your language-learning skills? Babbel may be the way to go. Babbel is excellent at teaching phrases and words that you’ll actually use on a day-to-day basis. The service is also relatively cheap, so if you’re unsure if you want to commit to learning a new language yet, the low subscription prices ensure you don’t have to make a huge commitment.
Memrise

If you learn best through repetition and flashcards (识字卡), then Memrise may be the service for you. It’s relatively inexpensive, making it easier to sign up. The goal of this book is to make the case for digital minimalism, including a detailed exploration of what it asks and why it works, and then to teach you how to adopt this philosophy if you decide it’s right for you.
To do so, I divided the book into two parts. In part one I describe the philosophical foundations of digital minimalism, starting with an examination of the forces that are making so many people’s digital lives increasingly intolerable, before moving on to a detailed discussion of the digital minimalism philosophy.
Part one concludes by introducing my suggested method for adopting this philosophy; the digital declutter. This process requires you to step away from optional online activities for thirty days. At the end of the thirty days, you will then add back a small number of carefully chosen online activities that you believe will provide massive benefits to the things you value.
In the final chapter of part one, I’ll guide you through carrying out your own digital declutter. In doing so, I’ll draw on an experiment I ran in 2018 in which over 1,600 people agreed to perform a digital declutter. You’ll hear these participants’ stories and learn what strategies worked well for them, and what traps they encountered that you should avoid.
The second part of this book takes a closer look at some ideas that will help you cultivate a sustainable digital minimalism lifestyle. In these chapters, I examine issues such as the importance of solitude and the necessity of cultivating high-quality leisure to replace the time most now spent on mindless device use. Each chapter concludes with a collection of practices, which are designed to help you act on the big ideas of the chapter. You can view these practices as a toolbox meant to aid your efforts to build a minimalist lifestyle that works for your particular circumstances.
41.What is the book aimed at?
A.Teaching critical thinking skills. B.Advocating a simple digital lifestyle.
C.Solving philosophical problems. D.Promoting the use of a digital device.
42.How does the writer offer suggestions in the first part?
A.By providing the detailed discussion of the digital minimalism philosophy firstly.
B.By studying the elements that lead to people’s digital lives increasingly unbearable.
C.By teaching people how to increasingly adopt digital minimalism.
D.By dividing the book into two parts forcing people to adopt the philosophy.
43.What does the underlined word “declutter” in paragraph 3 mean?
A.Clear-up. B.Add-on. C.Check-in. D.Take-over
44.What is presented in the final chapter of part one?
A.Theoretical models. B.Statistical methods.
C.Practical examples. D.Historical analyses.
45.What does the author suggest readers do with the practices offered in part two?
A.Use them as needed. B.Recommend them to friends.
C.Evaluate their effects. D.Identify the ideas behind them.

In a society of endless notifications from apps, devices and social media platforms, as well as access to more information than we could possibly consider, how do we find ways to manage? And is the way, we think, focusing on and processing information changing as a result?
Maryanne Wolf is a director of the Center for Dyslexia, Diverse Learners and Social Justice at the University of California in the United States. Wolf is concerned that the amount of interaction we have with our screens and devices and the speed at which we necessarily have to function have changed us by removing from us the ability to be present. And we’re so accustomed to going so fast that becoming completely involved in an activity is difficult.
Kai Lukoff is an assistant professor at Santa Clara University in the U.S. He researches how the apps, social media platforms and technology designers attempt to catch a user’s attention. He said, “There are a thousand or more engineers, developers, and designers on the other side of the screen who are purposefully or intentionally designing these services in order to attract your attention, to get you to spend more time on the site and to get you to click on more ads.”
Daniel Le Roux is a senior lecturer at Stellenbosch University in South Africa. He looks at the effects of what we’re doing when we’re “media multitasking”. “Everybody’s doing it, and it’s, in a large way, a natural adaptation to the technological environment that has been created around us,” he said.
“Media multitasking, like quick reading, is an adaptive response to an environment filled with information. And media multitasking comes at a cognitive (认知的) cost.” Le Roux points out. “We bring what we might call the switch cost; that means our performance in the key task is going to suffer. If you think of driving as the key task, the reason we prohibit drivers from using their smartphones while driving is that it distracts them from the task of driving.”
46.What’s the result of our interaction with screens according to Wolf?
A.Having trouble in concentrating.
B.Ignoring family and friends easily.
C.Responding to information quickly.
D.Having technology to assist with study.
47.What does Kai Lukoff intend to stress with his words?
A.The importance of colorful ads.
B.The strong attraction of social media.
C.The operation of social media platforms.
D.The great service of network developers.
48.Why does media multitasking occur?
A.To train us to handle tasks effectively.
B.To reduce the bad effect of social media.
C.To offer more ways to use technology.
D.To adjust us to the information age.
49.What is the switch cost mentioned by Daniel Le Roux?
A.We tend to forget our original intention.
B.We get distracted from our main mission.
C.We lose some important information.
D.We have to follow the fashion in technology.
50.Which is the best title for the text?
A.Challenges in the Digital Age
B.Dangers of Media Multitasking
C.Impacts of Technology on Attention
D.Methods of Dealing with Electronic Distractions
D
Technology is supposed to simplify our lives. Smartphones provide a palm-sized window on the world, enabling us to do almost anything with a mere tap. Smart homes manage themselves, and virtual meetings mean that commuting (通勤) is a thing of the past for many. So, we should have more time to sleep, relax, or simply enjoy a moment of doing nothing, right?
If this idea strikes you as a bit of a paradox, you are not alone. Growing evidence suggests that while digital technology indeed helps us save some time, we often end up using that time to do more things.
We recently conducted interviews across Europe to understand how people use digital devices in their daily lives. Whether it was waiting for a bus, waking up in the morning, or lying in bed at night, our respondents reported that time that would have previously been “empty” was now filled with tech-driven tasks.
The growth in digital tasks is partly due to how technology is changing our perception of free time. For many, it is no longer enough to simply eat a meal, watch TV, or take an exercise class. Instead, in an attempt to avoid “wasting” time, they often do these activities while browsing the Web in search of the ingredients for a perfect life and a sense of achievement.
These changes are also thought to be intensifying work. Home and hybrid working, enabled by video conferencing technology, have blurred the boundaries between work time and personal time. With the office now just a room away, it is tempting to think, “I’ll just finish this up after putting the kids to bed.”
Digital technologies are speeding up the pace of life. However, poorly designed technology can also force us to do more work because of the inefficiencies it creates. We have all encountered the frustration of entering data into system A only to find that it does not integrate with system B, forcing us to re-enter the same information in both.
By adding more tasks to our plates, we may end up achieving less and feeling worse. Reclaiming the time “saved” by technology requires a shift in how we use our time. To break free of the habit of filling time with more and more tasks, we need to first accept that sometimes it is okay to do less or nothing at all.
In the work environment, employers and employees alike need to create an environment in which disconnection is acceptable. This means setting realistic expectations about what can be achieved in a typical workday.
Moreover, technology itself may hold the key to reclaiming our time. Imagine if, instead of telling you to stand up and move around for another task, your smartwatch reminded you to stop working because you had reached your contracted work hours. Perhaps when technology starts to tell us to do less, we will finally be able to regain control of our time.
51.The “paradox” mentioned in Paragraph 2 refers to the fact that ______.
A.smart homes require more management than traditional ones
B.technology is meant to free up time but often leads to more tasks
C.people feel frustrated when technology fails to integrate systems
D.virtual meetings eliminate commuting but add new forms of work
52.What is the author’s attitude to the idea that “digital technology helps us save time”?
A.Supportive. B.Opposed. C.Skeptical. D.Unconcerned.
53.What role does Paragraph 3 play in the passage?
A.It contrasts the different ways people use smartphones in various situations.
B.It illustrates how digital devices fill previously “leisure” time with new tasks.
C.It explains the technical reasons behind the integration failure of digital systems.
D.It provides statistical evidence to support the claim about tech-driven assignments.
54.What does the author imply by mentioning the smartwatch example?
A.Technology should prioritize reminding users to rest over suggesting tasks.
B.Employers should equip employees with advanced time-management devices.
C.Physical movement reminders are unnecessary additions to digital routines.
D.Smartwatches are currently ineffective in helping users manage time.
55.What is the purpose of the author in writing this passage?
A.To criticize the inefficiency of current digital technologies.
B.To compare the traditional way of life with the digitalized one.
C.To advocate a shift in perceiving and using free time in digital age.
D.To reveal the unexpected outcome of employing digital technology.

第一节:阅读表达(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
阅读下面短文,并根据短文内容完成下列各题。
When sports journalist Shireen Ahmed thinks about covering the 2024 Olympics, one moment stands out: a video she shot on her phone of her and her workmates at CBC taken just as the Canadian men’s team won the 4×100m relay.
That wasn’t the only viral moment from last year’s Games. In fact, Ahmed says she and her workmates used social media to cover the Olympics like never before. Some of the Games’ most viral moments took off owing to media companies or individual journalists’ posts, including photos of Yusuf Dikec, the Turkish shooter who went viral for his shooting stance (姿势), Likewise American gymnast Simone Biles and Jordan Chiles bowing to Brazilian Rebecca Andrade after she took gold in the women’s floor final, and Australia’s Rachael Gunn, whose awkward breakdancing drew the internet’s attention. These moments had a huge impact on how fans consumed the events.
However, one-off viral moments aren’t the only way social media has changed sports reporting, Ahmed says. The dissemination of information and the ways that happened have changed greatly, which enable people to have access to athletes and watch their own commentary about personal and social issues.
And media companies are increasingly relying on podcasting, a medium that has become hugely popular among audiences. According to a 2024 report from SiriusXM, there has been a 39 per cent rise in demand for sports podcasts since 2019. In 2022 alone, there was a 32 per cent increase in the number of sports podcasts being produced. At the same time, there was a 119 per cent growth in downloads, indicating podcast consumption grew more and faster.
To Ahmed, videos might be an even bigger game-changer, especially on TikTok. That social media app has become extremely popular with sports journalists, who often use the platform to share a quick hit of analysis or opinion, or to deliver a short but informative explainer video, which breaks down a particular aspect of sport in 60 seconds or so. These are an important part of the overall editorial strategy for many sports departments, she says, because these concise, interesting and sometimes unexpected videos are both fascinating to audiences and effective at keeping them watching.
56.How did social media influence the way people experienced the 2024 Olympics? (no more than 10 words)
57.What does the underlined word “dissemination” in paragraph 2 mean? (1 word)
58.What is Ahmed’s opinion of sports videos on TikTok? (no more than 5 words)
59.What is the text mainly about? (no more than 10 words)
60.How does social media change your life? Please explain. (no more than 20 words)

Memrise
Price: $6.67 per month — $119.99 one-time payment
Number of languages: 16

Should Some Public Places Be Phone-free?
I’m Li Jin, a Senior 3 student from Chenguang Middle School. I firmly support that some public places should be phone-free.
Firstly, libraries are ideal for phone restrictions. Keeping phones silent or off helps people focus on reading and avoids disturbing others. Secondly, hospitals need strict phone bans, as phone calls may affect patients’ rest and even interfere with medical equipment.
Personally, I always follow phone rules in public. Once in a library, I put my phone on silent mode and only checked it after finishing my study. When taking buses, I never speak loudly on the phone.
In short, proper phone restrictions in public benefit everyone. Let’s use phones wisely.

【答案】51.B 52.C 53.B 54.A 55.C
【导语】本文是一篇议论文。文章主要讲述了数字技术虽节省时间却常致更多任务,需转变观念。
51.词句猜测题。根据第二段“Growing evidence suggests that while digital technology indeed helps us save some time, we often end up using that time to do more things.(越来越多的证据表明,虽然数字技术确实帮助我们节省了一些时间,但我们最终往往用这些时间做更多的事情)”可知,第二段中提到的“悖论”指的是技术本意是节省时间,但往往导致更多任务这一事实。故选B。
52.推理判断题。根据第二段“Growing evidence suggests that while digital technology indeed helps us save some time, we often end up using that time to do more things.(越来越多的证据表明,虽然数字技术确实帮助我们节省了一些时间,但我们最终往往用这些时间做更多的事情)”及全文内容可知,作者指出科技看似节省时间,实则让人们更忙碌、生活节奏更快,对“数字技术帮我们节省时间”这一观点持怀疑态度。故选C。
53.主旨大意题。根据第三段“We recently conducted interviews across Europe to understand how people use digital devices in their daily lives. Whether it was waiting for a bus, waking up in the morning, or lying in bed at night, our respondents reported that time that would have previously been “empty” was now filled with tech-driven tasks.(我们最近在欧洲各地进行了采访,以了解人们在日常生活中如何使用数字设备。无论是等公交车、早上醒来,还是晚上躺在床上,我们的受访者都报告说,以前“空闲”的时间现在都被技术驱动的任务填满了)”可知,第三段举例说明数字设备如何用新任务填满原本的空闲时间。故选B。
54.推理判断题。根据最后一段“Imagine if, instead of telling you to stand up and move around for another task, your smartwatch reminded you to stop working because you had reached your contracted work hours. Perhaps when technology starts to tell us to do less, we will finally be able to regain control of our time.(想象一下,如果你的智能手表不是让你站起来为另一项任务四处走动,而是提醒你因为已经达到了合同规定的工作时间而停止工作。也许当技术开始告诉我们少做些事情时,我们最终将能够重新掌控自己的时间)”可知,作者通过提到智能手表的例子,暗示技术应该优先考虑提醒用户休息,而不是建议任务。故选A。
55.推理判断题。根据倒数第三段“By adding more tasks to our plates, we may end up achieving less and feeling worse. Reclaiming the time “saved” by technology requires a shift in how we use our time. To break free of the habit of filling time with more and more tasks, we need to first accept that sometimes it is okay to do less or nothing at all.(通过增加更多的任务,我们最终可能会取得更少的成就,感觉更糟。

56.考查细节理解。根据第二段“In fact, Ahmed says she and her workmates used social media to cover the Olympics like never before. These moments had a huge impact on how fans consumed the events.(事实上,艾哈迈德表示,她和同事们以一种前所未有的方式,借助社交媒体报道了这届奥运会。 It created many viral moments.
57.考查词句猜测。根据划线词后文“of information and the ways that happened have changed greatly(信息的……以及传播过程本身都发生了巨大变化)”以及“which enable people to have access to athletes and watch their own commentary about personal and social issues(这使得人们能够接触到运动员,并观看他们对个人和社会问题的阐述)”可知,社交媒体使得人们能够接触到运动员,并观看他们对个人和社会问题的阐述,说明信息的传播方式产生了变化。故划线词意思是“传播”。故答案为Spread.
58.考查细节理解。根据最后一段“To Ahmed, videos might be an even bigger game-changer, especially on TikTok.(对于艾哈迈德来说,视频可能会带来更大的变革影响,尤其是在TikTok上)”可知,艾哈迈德认为TikTok上的体育视频具有变革性的影响。故答案为They are game-changers.
Social media changes sports reporting.
60.考查开放题。根据“社交媒体是如何改变你的生活的呢?请详细说明一下”可回答:它让我的日常交流和获取信息变得更加便捷。故答案为It makes my daily communication and information-getting easier.

【答案】范文
