Historic Sites in Paris
Paris is a city full of sites of different times and architectural styles. Here are some of these famous spots that are essential to understand the city’s complicated past.
Eiffel Tower
Presented as part of the 1889 World Exposition in Paris, the Eiffel Tower has become the city’s most famous attraction. It can be reached on Line 6 or Line 8 of the Paris Metro by Bir-Hakeim or Trocadéro stations. If possible, avoid visiting this spot at peak hours (10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.) or on weekends, so you can make the most of your visit to enjoy the views from the top. The best moments are right after it first opens on weekdays.
Notre-Dame Cathedral
Dating back to the 12th century, the Notre-Dame Cathedral has long towered alongside the banks of the Seine River. With its complicated Gothic architectural details, it represents Parisian religion and architecture. Unfortunately, a fire broke out on April 15, 2019, destroying part of it. Visitors are not allowed to enter now.
Louvre Museum
Louvre Museum is one of the most famous art museums in the world where you can witness the city’s rich painting history from the medieval period to the present. It can easily be reached on Line 1 from the Palais Royal-Musée du Louvre station. It is closed on Tuesdays as well as January 1, May 1, and December 25 each year.

Jane Goodall was only 26 years old when she first went to Gombe Stream National Park in Tanzania in July 1960.
While researchers understood that humans and chimpanzees (黑猩猩) were closely related, they had no knowledge about the behavior of primates (灵长目动物) in the wild. The first three months were difficult without making any meaningful scientific observations or being able to approach the chimpanzees. But Goodall finally managed to gain the trust of a male with silver hair that she named David Greybeard. In November 1960, she made an observation that would forever change the way the animals were understood. David Greybeard bent a stick and used it as a tool to clean termites (白蚁) in a nest. The ability to use tools was what scientists believed set humans apart from animals.
Goodall’s career track changed after the “Understanding Chimpanzees” conference in Chicago in 1986. Although she helped organize it, the sessions she attended showed her the devastating effects of deforestation of habitats and the inhumane conditions chimpanzees faced in medical research. She told Living on Earth’s Steve Curwood in an interview in 2020 that she had no idea of the extent of the dangers the great chimpanzees faced. “I went as a scientist,” Goodall said. “I left as an activist.” Her conservation efforts started years earlier when she founded the Jane Goodall Institute which devotes a large part of its efforts to wildlife conservation and to continuing the field research in Gombe Stream National Park, according to the press release. But Goodall understood that, if we really wanted to change the world, we must get youth involved. That’s why she started the Roots & Shoots program in 1991, now active in 75 countries, to empower young people to protect the world. In January 2025, she was awarded the Medal of Freedom for her contributions to science and her advocacy for the planet.
Goodall passed away on October 1, 2025. She remained active until just days before her death. Her legacy of research and advocacy will live on.
24.Why did Jane Goodall go to Gombe Stream National Park in 1960?
A.To observe termites. B.To travel with scientists.
C.To do a field study. D.To name a chimpanzee.
25.What does the underlined word “devastating” mean in paragraph 3?
A.Disastrous. B.Beneficial. C.Significant. D.Apparent.
26.Why did Jane Goodall launch the Roots & Shoots program?
A.To establish partnerships for habitat protection.
B.To encourage youth participation in conservation.
C.To fund scientific research on chimpanzees’ behaviors.
D.To train young people to become wildlife researchers.
27.What can be inferred about Jane Goodall?
A.Her research methods were doubtful. B.Her efforts were limited to chimpanzees.
C.Her focus was on theoretical contributions. D.Her advocacy work had a global impact.

A Swinburne-based research team has completed a nationwide study of parents about how Australian audiences discover, consume, and value local children’s content.
The researchers found that seven out of 10 parents believed that good Australian children’s television is “fun and engaging”. Survey responses showed that parents valued “relatable” and “authentic” programming, including Australian accents and settings; recognizable depictions of family dynamics; and content that doesn’t take itself too seriously. These qualities can all be found in kids’ TV phenomenon Bluey, the Emmy-winning animated comedy about a Queensland-based family of Blue Heeler dogs. Parents identified Bluey as the show most watched by their children, as well as the kids’ TV show they are most enthusiastic about watching themselves.
As one survey respondent, a Western Australia mum-of-two, observed, “Round the Twist and Bluey are the best because they show kids being passionate and funny and adults handling their lives with patience, respect and humour, as well as being dorks and messing up.”
Parents highlighted the importance of children’s content having an educational component, but “education” was often conceptualized beyond formal learning to include positive messages and life skills. Parents emphasized the importance of locally produced shows to provide Australian “everyday” education, including about water and sun safety, history and culture, Australian geography, and preparing for school.
Swinburne researcher Associate Professor Liam Burke says, “Research that prioritizes the audience is critical to help producers, policymakers, and other stakeholders understand the complex role that local children’s television plays in contemporary Australia.”
ACTF (the Australian Children’s Television Foundation) CEO Jenny Buckland also noted the importance of this project. “This research is part of a larger four-year study exploring the impact of Australian children’s television from every angle. The findings will benefit our strategic thinking and planning,” says Buckland.
The ACTF recently announced cooperation with streaming services Stan and Netflix, with Buckland adding, “This report demonstrates that Australian parents value shows that they can co-view with their children on popular streaming platforms, which encourages us to proceed with partnerships with those platforms.”
28.What is the study about?
A.Australians’ views on children’s television.
B.Australians’ most popular TV programmes.
C.Australians’ television of history and culture.
D.Australians’ educational streaming platforms.
29.What do we know about Bluey?
A.It is based on real events that have happened.
B.It teaches children how to get on in their lives.
C.It includes elements of local Australian culture.
D.It is not well-accepted among Australian parents.
30.According to paragraph 3, a dork may be someone who ________.
A.tends to keep everything well-organized B.has a sense of humour and amuses others
C.is unable to handle difficulties effectively D.stays positive even faced with challenges
31.Why does ACTF continue its partnership with Stan and Netflix?
A.Because it facilitates the research into children’s television.
B.Because the television on these platforms is of high quality.
C.Because these platforms significantly impact children’s behaviour.
D.Because they provide television for parents to watch with children.
D
After nearly a decade of trying, Apple finally gave up its effort to produce an electric car last year, canceling a project that soaked up $10 billion. But last year in China, the electronics maker Xiaomi launched its first electric car after just three years of development and delivered 135,000 vehicles. It has vowed to double that number in 2025.
Xiaomi’s ability to succeed where Apple could not shows how thoroughly China has come to dominate the supply chain for electric vehicles. Chinese companies have mastered electric vehicle manufacturing. By tapping that infrastructure, Xiaomi was able to get components quickly and cheaply. And Xiaomi is not the only Chinese consumer electronics company that has branched out to electric vehicles. The telecommunications giant Huawei, which the U. S. government has targeted with sanctions and legal action for years, is making autonomous driving software. Huawei has teamed up with multiple Chinese automakers, including Seres Group and the state-owned firms SAIC Motor, BAIC and Chery.
Xiaomi’s first electric car was brought out last March: the SU7,a four-door sedan with artificial intelligence features that can help with parking, play movies for passengers and program Xiaomi home appliances from the road. Mr. Lei said it looks like a Porsche. But at $ 30,000, it’s a quarter of the price. While the SU7 earned Xiaomi just a small fraction of the sales of China’s top electric vehicle makers, it puts Xiaomi among the Chinese companies that are dealing a major blow to foreign automakers’ long command over China’s market for premium cars. In the year since the SU7 went on sale, Porsche deliveries in China were down nearly 30 percent.
Chinese electric vehicle companies have benefited from billions of dollars in government support, which has helped them gain control of the supply chain down to the very minerals inside the car batteries. This early edge helped two Chinese companies, BYD and Contemporary Amperex Technology Company.
Xiaomi used this supply chain to its advantage. Its cars contain batteries from BYD and CATL. It was able to quickly start production by taking over a factory from Beijing Auto Group. Construction workers in Beijing are working around the clock on a second factory. All this manufacturing capacity helps Chinese electric vehicle firms move from development to production in far less time than traditional automakers in China, enabling them to bring new models to market quickly and focus on making software that they can continually update, said Stephen W. Dyer, head of Asia Automotive at AlixPartners.

A.SU7’s price advantage. B.SU7’s features and influence.
C.Porsche’s decline in China. D.Xiaomi’s EV production plan.
35.How did Xiaomi start its electric car production quickly?
A.By developing new technology. B.By building its own factory.

Adding details to your plan helps you act better. Be sure to add when and where. If your goal is to work out five days each week, a plan like “I’ll work out on weekdays” would be too vague. But a detailed plan like “I’ll exercise at the gym on weekdays during my lunch break” would fit the bill. 37 For example, if you plan to work out during lunch, you’ll be sure to refuse a lunch invitation from others.
Consider punishment
This may sound difficult, but ensuring you’ll face some punishment if you don’t achieve your goal can work wonders. One easy way to do this is to tell a few people about your goal. You’ll feel ashamed if they check back later and find out you haven’t followed through. Feeling ashamed is a kind of spiritual punishment. You can also make a bet with a friend that you’ll stick to your goal. 38
Make it fun
Most of us concentrate on the final result when it comes to achieving our goals. 39 Are you enjoying the process of pursuing your goal? If it’s not fun to exercise or study, you’re unlikely to keep at it. But if you get pleasure from your works or study sessions, you’ll persist longer. It’s the pursuit of your goals-not the reaching of them-that makes up the weeks, days and hours of our lives. So make sure to have fun along the way!
Get a little help from your friends
Spending time around high achievers can boost your own performance. If your aim is to run a marathon or write a book, you’d be wise to start hanging around friends who’ve made it to the finish line and can show you how it’s done. You’ll learn a lot just by spending time together with these friends. 40 Giving someone else tips on how to achieve boosts your self-confidence and motivates you to achieve success.
A.Who could you turn to for help?
B.It can also help you avoid breaking your routine.
C.If you want to stick to it, try the following strategies.
D.Friends are well aware of your strengths and weaknesses.
E.There is evidence that cash punishment motivates success.
F.Advising friends with shared goals can improve your success rate, too.
G.But focusing too much on it can make us ignore an even more important thing.

“Who wants to show us their special project first?” Mrs. Williams asked my fourth-grade class. She always gave us chances to earn extra points. For this project, we were allowed to do anything, as long as we did it ourselves.
I burrowed my head in my sweater, just like my turtle. Don’t call on me. Don’t call on me.
“Ava, you look ready. Come on up,” Mrs. Williams said. Ava skipped! Unlike me, she just loved talking in front of people. She showed us how to wire potatoes so they produced electricity. Potatoes! Her dad was an engineer, and I wondered how much of the project he had helped her with. But it was cool, and I told her so when she passed my desk.
My buddy Jayce got called on next. He was so nervous that the skin on his neck was raspberry red. He demonstrated the Unpoppable Bubble. The class got to bat the bubble around and it didn’t pop. “You’ve got this,” I gave him a thumbs-up.
“Michael, your project, please.”
Michael. That was me! I hadn’t even raised my hand. I guess I forgot to keep my head buried. I walked to the front of the class on wobbly legs and set my birdhouse on the table. “This is how to build a birdhouse,” I began.
“Look at your audience, Michael,” Mrs. Williams called from the back of the room. She had reminded everyone who had come up so far. I swallowed the baseball-size lump in my throat and started again.
“I looked online for plans to build a birdhouse. Then I went to the lumberyard (木厂) with my dad, since I’m not old enough to drive.” (The class laughed at that.)“Someone there cut four pieces using the measurements I gave them for the walls, then they used a jigsaw (锯) for the hole.”
Luka’s hand shot up. We were supposed to take questions if anyone had them. Luka was my friend, but he always asked a billion questions. “So if someone at the lumberyard cut the wood and made the hole, and your dad drove you there, what did you do?” He asked.

Good morning. I am Bradley, assistant to the director James. He is very busy at the moment preparing for the next scene, so if you have any questions, come to me rather than him. Trust me, I’m much more approachable. I believe for many of you this is the first time, so I’m going to give you a couple of tips and then explain what today’s plan is. For background actors, you want to make it look like you are talking and having a nice time, so smile. But, when you talk, you just have to move your lips. The microphones on set are very sensitive, so don’t actually speak, just mouth the words. For this scene, several of you will be sitting at tables as if you were in a restaurant. A few more of you will be standing by the bar. We also need three actors to look like waiters, so you three — Jack, Luke, and David, can you go to the costume department to get fitted for waiter uniforms? The rest of you, let’s go to the make-up truck and get you all pretty.

Paris is a city full of sites of different times and architectural styles. Here are some of these famous spots that are essential to understand the city’s complicated past.

Presented as part of the 1889 World Exposition in Paris, the Eiffel Tower has become the city’s most famous attraction. It can be reached on Line 6 or Line 8 of the Paris Metro by Bir-Hakeim or Trocadéro stations. Dating back to the 12th century, the Notre-Dame Cathedral has long towered alongside the banks of the Seine River.

【答案】24.C 25.A 26.B 27.D
根据第一段“Jane Goodall was only 26 years old when she first went to Gombe Stream National Park in Tanzania in July 1960.(1960年7月,简·古道尔(Jane Goodall)第一次前往坦桑尼亚的贡贝溪国家公园,当时她只有26岁)”以及第二段“While researchers understood that humans and chimpanzees (黑猩猩) were closely related, they had no knowledge about the behavior of primates (灵长目动物) in the wild.(虽然研究人员知道人类和黑猩猩关系密切,但他们对野生灵长类动物的行为一无所知)”可知,简·古道尔1960年去贡贝溪国家公园是为了进行野外研究。故选C。
根据第三段“Although she helped organize it, the sessions she attended showed her the devastating effects of deforestation of habitats and the inhumane conditions chimpanzees faced in medical research.(虽然她帮助组织了这次会议,但她参加的会议让她看到了栖息地森林砍伐的devastating影响,以及黑猩猩在医学研究中面临的不人道条件)”和“She told Living on Earth’s Steve Curwood in an interview in 2020 that she had no idea of the extent of the dangers the great chimpanzees faced(她在2020年接受《生活在地球上》节目史蒂夫·柯伍德采访时表示,自己当时完全不了解大猩猩所面临的危险程度。)” 故选A。
根据第三段“But Goodall understood that, if we really wanted to change the world, we must get youth involved. That’s why she started the Roots & Shoots program in 1991, now active in 75 countries, to empower young people to protect the world.(但古道尔明白,如果我们真的想改变世界,就必须让年轻人参与进来。这就是为什么她在1991年发起了“根与芽”项目,该项目目前在75个国家开展,旨在赋予年轻人力量去保护世界)”可知,简·古道尔发起“根与芽”项目是为了鼓励年轻人参与保护工作。故选B。
27.推理判断题。根据第三段“That’s why she started the Roots & Shoots program in 1991, now active in 75 countries, to empower young people to protect the world.(这就是为什么她在1991年发起了“根与芽”项目,该项目目前在75个国家开展,旨在鼓励年轻人保护世界)”以及“In January 2025, she was awarded the Medal of Freedom for her contributions to science and her advocacy for the planet.(2025年1月,她因对科学的贡献和对地球的倡导而被授予自由勋章)”可知,简·古道尔的倡导工作具有全球影响力。故选D。

32.How does the author introduce the topic?
A.By listing examples. B.By stating opinions.
C.By making a contrast. D.By giving definitions.
33.Why does the author mention Apple’s failure?
A.To show Apple’s poor management. B.To prove electric car production is difficult.
C.To highlight China’s EV development. D.To compare it with Huawei’s situation.
34.What does Paragraph 3 focus on?
A.SU7’s price advantage. B.SU7’s features and influence.
C.Porsche’s decline in China. D.Xiaomi’s EV production plan.
35.How did Xiaomi start its electric car production quickly?
A.By developing new technology. B.By building its own factory.
C.By getting government support. D.By getting hold of a factory.
根据第一段“After nearly a decade of trying, Apple finally gave up its effort to produce an electric car last year, canceling a project that soaked up $10 billion. But last year in China, the electronics maker Xiaomi launched its first electric car after just three years of development and delivered 135,000 vehicles. (经过近十年的努力,苹果终于在去年放弃了生产电动汽车的努力,取消了一个耗资100亿美元的项目。但去年在中国,电子产品制造商小米推出了其首款电动汽车,经过短短三年的研发,交付了13.5万辆。)”可知,首段将苹果“十年造车失败”与小米“三年成功推出电动汽车”进行对比,通过对比引出“中国电动汽车供应链主导地位”的主题。故选C。
33.细节理解题。根据第二段“Xiaomi’s ability to succeed where Apple could not shows how thoroughly China has come to dominate the supply chain for electric vehicles.(小米能够在苹果无法做到的地方取得成功,表明中国已经彻底主导了电动汽车供应链。)”
根据第三段“Xiaomi’s first electric car was brought out last March: the SU7,a four-door sedan with artificial intelligence features that can help with parking, play movies for passengers and program Xiaomi home appliances from the road. Mr. Lei said it looks like a Porsche. But at $ 30,000, it’s a quarter of the price. While the SU7 earned Xiaomi just a small fraction of the sales of China’s top electric vehicle makers, it puts Xiaomi among the Chinese companies that are dealing a major blow to foreign automakers’ long command over China’s market for premium cars.(小米的第一辆电动汽车于去年3月推出:SU7,这是一款四门轿车,具有人工智能功能,可以帮助停车,为乘客播放电影,并在路上为小米的家用电器编程。
根据第五段“It was able to quickly start production by taking over a factory from Beijing Auto Group.(通过收购北汽集团的一家工厂,该公司得以迅速投产。)”
People set goals for their lives. Perhaps you want to lose weight, learn a new skill or read 30 books a year. But then you get busy and your daily life takes up all of your time. Before you know it, weeks, then months have gone by and you are no closer to your goal. 36
Make a specific plan
36.根据空前的“People set goals for their lives. Perhaps you want to lose weight, learn a new skill or read 30 books a year. But then you get busy and your daily life takes up all of your time. Before you know it, weeks, then months have gone by and you are no closer to your goal. (人们会为自己的人生设定目标。或许你想要减肥、学习一项新技能或是一年读30本书。但之后你变得忙碌,日常生活占据了你所有的时间。不知不觉中,几周、几个月过去了,你离自己的目标却一点也没有靠近。)”可知,人们会设定目标,但却可能没有坚持目标,此空应引出下文能帮助人们坚持目标的方法策略,C选项“If you want to stick to it, try the following strategies. (如果你想要坚持下去,可以尝试以下这些策略。)”中的it指代前文的goal,承接前文的困境,引出下文的具体方法,符合语境。故选C项。
37.根据空前的主题句“Make a specific plan (制定具体的计划)”以及“But a detailed plan like “I’ll exercise at the gym on weekdays during my lunch break” would fit the bill. (但“我要在工作日的午休时间去健身房锻炼”这样详细的计划就十分合适。)”以及空后的“For example, if you plan to work out during lunch, you’ll be sure to refuse a lunch invitation from others. (比如,如果你计划在午休时锻炼,你就一定会拒绝别人的午餐邀请。)”可知,此空应说明具体计划能帮助人们不打乱自己的安排,B选项“It can also help you avoid breaking your routine. (它还能帮你避免打乱自己的日常安排。)”中的it指代前文的detailed plan,衔接前后文内容,符合语境。故选B项。
38.根据空前主题句“Consider punishment (考虑设置惩罚机制)”以及“This may sound difficult, but ensuring you’ll face some punishment if you don’t achieve your goal can work wonders. One easy way to do this is to tell a few people about your goal. You’ll feel ashamed if they check back later and find out you haven’t followed through. Feeling ashamed is a kind of spiritual punishment. You can also make a bet with a friend that you’ll stick to your goal. (这听起来可能有些困难,但确保自己如果没达成目标就会面临一些惩罚,能起到意想不到的效果。一个简单的方法就是把你的目标告诉几个人。如果之后他们询问进展,却发现你根本没有坚持下去,你会感到羞愧。羞愧感就是一种精神层面的惩罚。你也可以和朋友打赌,自己一定会坚持目标。)”可知,本段介绍的是设置惩罚机制,此空应承接前文的惩罚机制,说明金钱惩罚的作用,E选项“There is evidence that cash punishment motivates success. (有证据表明,金钱方面的惩罚能激励人走向成功。)”承接前文的打赌这一惩罚方式,符合语境。故选E项。

(说到实现目标,我们大多数人都会把注意力集中在最终结果上。)”以及空后的“Are you enjoying the process of pursuing you goal? If it’s not fun you won’t keep at it. But if you get pleasure from your works or study sessions, you’ll persist longer. It’s the pursuit of your goals-not the reaching of them-that makes up the weeks, days and hours of our lives. So make sure to have fun along the way! 可知,本段介绍的是乐趣更重要,G选项“But focusing too much on it can make us ignore an even more important thing.
40.根据空前的主题句“Get a little help from your friends (向朋友寻求一点帮助)”以及“Spending time around high achievers can boost your own performance. If your aim is to run a marathon or write a book, you’d be wise to start hanging around friends who’ve made it to the finish line and can show you how it’s done. You’ll learn a lot just by spending time together with these friends. (多和成功人士待在一起,能提升你自己的表现。如果你的目标是跑一场马拉松或是写一本书,那么明智的做法就是多和那些已经达成目标的朋友来往,他们可以教你具体该怎么做。仅仅是和这些朋友相处,你就能学到很多东西。)”以及空后的“Giving someone else tips on how to achieve boosts your self-confidence and motivates you to achieve success. (给别人提供实现目标的建议,能增强你的自信心,还能激励你自己取得成功。)”可知,此空应说明给有共同目标的朋友提建议也能提高自己的成功率,F选项“Advising friends with shared goals can improve your success rate, too. (给有着共同目标的朋友提供建议,也能提高你的成功率。)”衔接前后文内容,符合语境。故选F项。

60.考查动词时态和主谓一致。句意:目前,这些创新的数字项目,从追踪野生动物的旅程到虚拟领养,正在弥合人类与动物之间的差距。根据时间状语Currently可知,此处表示正在进行的动作,应用现在进行时,主语为programs,谓语动词用复数形式。故填are bridging。
“lay foundation for...” 故填for。
故填what。

This afternoon, we had a class discussion about whether it is necessary to tell white lies. Different people hold different views on this issue.
Some people believe that we need to tell some white lies in some moments in our life in order to avoid hurting others’ feelings. However, others argue that no one should tell lies, no matter what kinds of lies. They insist that everybody should know the truth in any case. People may feel cheated when they know the truth eventually.
As far as I am concerned, when we tell a white lie, we had better consider the situation at the time and the consequence that it might bring.

The lump in my throat was now the size of a basketball. I fumbled with the edge of my shirt, trying to find the words. “I... I sanded every piece of wood for hours,” I managed to say, my voice cracking. “I wanted it to be safe for birds, so I made sure there were no splinters. Then I mixed the blue paint myself — added a little white to make it lighter, like the sky.” My hands trembled as I pointed to the roof. “I also drew the design for the roof slope and checked the measurements three times so rain wouldn’t leak in. And when the hammer slipped and hit my thumb, I kept going.” A few kids nodded, and Ava gave me a small smile.
I looked up to see if Luka was watching as I gave the nail a mighty hit. He was, and his eyes lit up. “Nice one!” he shouted. The class cheered, and I felt a rush of courage. “See?” I said, holding up the birdhouse. “I chose the nail sizes, too — small enough to not split the wood, but strong enough to hold it together.” Mrs. Williams stepped forward. “Michael, your project shows something important: taking pride in every step, even the hard ones. That’s all your own work.” I grinned, suddenly glad I’d stood up there. Maybe next time, I wouldn’t hide my head like a turtle.

Arc de Triomphe
The Arc de Triomphe serves as a national symbol of France, which was built by Napoleon I in celebration of the victory at the Battle of Austerlitz. Take Line 1, 2, or 6 to Charles de Gaulle-Etoile station and you will see the Arc de Triomphe. Visitors can purchase tickets for a tour to the top to enjoy the views of the city.
21.Which is the best time to visit Eiffel Tower?
A.At 2:00 p.m., Sunday. B.At 9:00 a.m., Monday.
C.At 11:00 a.m., Tuesday. D.At 10:00 a.m., Saturday.
22.Where should visitors go if they are interested in art history?

People set goals for their lives. Perhaps you want to lose weight, learn a new skill or read 30 books a year. But then you get busy and your daily life takes up all of your time. Before you know it, weeks, then months have gone by and you are no closer to your goal. 36
Make a specific plan
