When our school announced a time capsule project (时光胶囊项目) in 1999, everyone brought typical items: mixtapes, small toys, newspaper clips about Y2K. I was fifteen and chose something different—my father’s old, broken watch. It hadn’t worked in years, and its hands forever 1 at 2:17. My father had passed away when I was eight, and the watch was the only thing of his I dared to carry daily. Burying it felt like a quiet act of courage, a decision to stop 2 a broken past.
The capsule was sealed (密封) under a newly planted oak in the schoolyard. We were told it would be opened in twenty years. At the time, that felt like a distant, almost fictional future.
Life moved on. I 3 , moved cities, built a career. The watch, and the boy who buried it, got into a half-remembered chapter slowly. Last year, an email arrived from the alumni association (校友会): the time capsule would be dug up and opened. A 4 nervousness settled (安顿) in me.
The gathering was small. We stood where the oak once grew. When the rusted container was opened, there was 5 at the outdated treasures—the tapes, the unclear photos. Then, a volunteer pulled out a small cloth bag. My breath caught.
Inside, the watch was 6 as I remembered: worn leather, cloudy glass, hands still at 2:17. But as I held it, something unexpected happened. I didn’t feel the old, sharp 7 . Instead, I felt a deep connection—not to the frozen moment of 2:17, but to the fifteen-year-old me who had made the careful 8 to let it go. In that act of burial, he wasn’t abandoning (离弃) memory; he was giving it to time.
I put the watch into my pocket. That night, I didn’t put it in a drawer. I placed it on my bookshelf, next to a 9 of my own son. It no longer symbolized an ending frozen in time. It had become proof (证明) of a different truth: we do not move on from the past by 10 it, but by making it a part of who we become. We’ll keep it in mind forever.

根据前句“losing is a part of life”,后句是对这一观点的补充说明。“After all”意为“毕竟”,用于引出对前文的补充说明,符合语境逻辑。In total“总共”、At first“起初”、In public“公共场合”与语境逻辑不符。
根据后句 “This may help us succeed in the future”,可知从失败中学到的东西具有积极意义。“valuable” 表示 “有价值的”,符合“能帮助未来成功”的语境。awful“糟糕的”与积极意义相悖;unable“不能的”、medical“医学的”与语境无关。
3.句意:所以我们必须知道如何做一个体面的失败者。

前句“Good losers set examples to us”与后句“most importantly, they finally win”之间是递进关系。“and”用于表示并列或递进关系,符合语境。but “但是” 表转折;if “如果” 表条件;until “直到”表时间,三者均不符合此处的递进逻辑。
