When it comes to the Himalayas (喜马拉雅山), you may think of high mountains and white snow. But in the mountains there is a place named the Valley of Flowers (花谷) and you can see a very different scene (景色) there.
The Valley of Flowers is in the north of India. It is more than 87.5 square kilometers. There are flowers everywhere. However, these flowers are not quite the same as what we often see. A study shows that about half of all people say that they are shy. Some people are not shy when they are with their friends. They laugh, talk and play games together happily. In eastern Africa, a volcano (火山) rises more than 19,000 feet into the sky. It’s Mount Kilimanjaro, one of the world’s tallest mountains. Every year, thousands of people try to climb to the top. Fewer than half succeed.
Montannah Kenney of Texas was one of the few who succeeded. She climbed the mountain with her mom last year, when she was just 7! She was one of the youngest climbers ever to get to the top. “It felt great to reach my goal (实现目标),” Montannah said.
Her adventure began about two years ago. Montannah found out her mom was planning to climb Kilimanjaro. She asked to go too. “I wanted to see what it was like above the clouds,” she said.
The Kenneys knew it was important to be prepared. They practiced climbing on hills near their home. And they did a study. They found that they had to be ready for all kinds of weather. A study shows that about half of all people say that they are shy. Some people are not shy when they are with their friends. They laugh, talk and play games together happily. In eastern Africa, a volcano (火山) rises more than 19,000 feet into the sky. It’s Mount Kilimanjaro, one of the world’s tallest mountains. Every year, thousands of people try to climb to the top. Fewer than half succeed.
Montannah Kenney of Texas was one of the few who succeeded. She climbed the mountain with her mom last year, when she was just 7! She was one of the youngest climbers ever to get to the top. “It felt great to reach my goal (实现目标),” Montannah said.
Her adventure began about two years ago. Montannah found out her mom was planning to climb Kilimanjaro. She asked to go too. “I wanted to see what it was like above the clouds,” she said.
