【原文】W: Good afternoon and welcome to Stanton University. I’m here to tell you about the various dorms we have. We aim to offer accommodation to all first-year students. First of all, there’s Brown Hall, which is not the most modern of buildings, but it is very popular. Unlike the other halls, it has recently had a gym built in its basement. Another option is Blake Residence, built like a large house. Everybody cooks and eats together. It has a private garden and is even more peaceful because this is an all-girls residence but boys can visit it. The largest one we have is Queen’s Building and this has been upgraded recently. The original parking area has been built on and each bedroom now has its own shower room. A further option is the Parkway Flats with a preservation order. This has meant that only a limited amount could be done to upgrade it, and the surrounding area is important. So parking is not permitted around the flats. However, the flats do have many extra facilities such as a special computer room, a small library and a self-service restaurant. The cost of meals is covered in the fees so it does look a bit more expensive.

Sections like Mutianyu and Juyongguan now offer warm-weather after-dark tours, with the wall beautifully lit up. South of Beijing, a new hiking trail has been built at Zhoukoudian, where the bones of Peking Man were discovered.

Lieutenant Colonel (中校) Song Lingdong will soon become one of the first astronauts from the post-1990s generation in China to start a space journey.
Born in August 1990 to a farmer’s family in Caoxian county, Shandong province, Song joined the PLA Air Force in September 2008 and was sent to learn flying. In the first months at the flight school, the young man had bad scores in his physical tests. He also had a tough time in his first flights due to airsickness.
Knowing clearly about his weaknesses, Song decided to depend on willpower and sweat to make up for them. He soon became the one student in his class who always appeared on the exercise field and often asked the trainers to double the amount of his training. Thanks to his hard work, he received the top score in his solo (个人) flight exam. After graduation, Song became a pilot.
In the spring of 2018, Song was told about the PLA Astronaut Department beginning to pick new members. Soon he decided to apply. He said the desire to fly above the atmosphere (大气层) was inspired by a TV news report he saw about China’s first spaceflight, when he was 13 years old.
In September 2020, he was selected as one of the third group of astronauts. He soon realized that a successful astronaut really needs calmness and team spirit. He learned to slow down and even started going fishing to improve his patience. In the eyes of the leader Cai Xuzhe and teammate Wang Haoze, Song is now fully able to complete a spaceflight and can be depended upon.

The value of the dictionary depends upon your purpose. If the idea is to teach word meanings or to help students understand, then provide the meanings directly. The whole process of looking up words and choosing among meanings increases “cognitive load (认知负荷)”. That is, the dictionary tasks pull attention from learning the word meanings. It wastes precious class time, too. Therefore, many textbooks include meanings of key vocabulary.
Technology also allows students to click on a word to find its meanings. In this way, publishers provide access to meanings without requiring students to struggle with dictionaries. That said, there is more to it than that. Students should be learning to turn to the dictionary during reading when they encounter difficulties, and it is rewarding to help them overcome this cognitive load challenge.
All students can gain from dictionaries, but the benefits of dictionary use are most obvious for English learners because of their limited knowledge of English vocabulary. However, dictionary instruction can be pretty bad, with a lot of focus on looking up words and little energy devoted to making sense of meanings or choosing the relevant ones. Technology has relieved the “looking up” pressure but the rest of it is still an issue.
Kids simply don’t know how to make sense of what they find in dictionaries — the benefits of gaining information from each of the various definitions, and the need to look up additional words to make sense of a meaning. For instance, if you look up “joy”, you will quickly encounter the word “emotion”, which is a harder word than the one you were trying to figure out.
Dictionary instruction can provide a great opportunity to explore the grammatical relations among words, too. Such dictionary lessons will not directly increase vocabulary, but they will provide students with the proficiency (熟练) that they need to solve unknown words during reading, which is valuable.
28. Why do textbooks add key word explanations?
A. To prevent student distraction. B. To speed up the learning process.
C. To build a vocabulary system. D. To remove unnecessary tasks.
29. What does paragraph 2 mainly say about technology?
A. It simplifies word lookup.
B. It makes dictionary skills unnecessary.
C. It shouldn’t replace dictionary use.
D. It reduces learning challenges.
30. What is the problem with dictionary instruction?
A. It stops at turning pages.
B. It consumes much time.
C. It focuses on new words.
D. It assumes prior word knowledge.
31. Which would be the best title for the text?
A. Dictionaries: A Tool for Every Student
B. Moving Beyond Just Looking Up Words
C. The Hidden Challenges in Dictionary Use
D. Technology’s Role in Language Learning
【答案】28. D 29. C 30. A 31. B
【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章探讨了词典在教学中的价值与局限,分析了技术如何改变查词方式,指出了当前词典教学中普遍存在的“重查词、轻理解”的问题,并提出了改进词典教学以培养学生实际语言能力的方向。
28.细节理解题。根据第一段“The whole process of looking up words and choosing among meanings increases “cognitive load ( 认知负荷 )”. That is, the dictionary tasks pull attention from learning the word meanings. It wastes precious class time, too. Therefore, many textbooks include meanings of key vocabulary.(查单词并在释义中做选择的整个过程会增加“认知负荷”。也就是说,查词典的任务会分散学生学习单词含义的注意力,也会浪费宝贵的课堂时间。因此,许多教材会附上重点词汇的释义。)”可知,教材添加重点单词解释是为了省去不必要的查词任务。故选D项。
29.主旨大意题。根据第二段“Technology also allows students to click on a word to find its meanings. In this way, publishers provide access to meanings without requiring students to struggle with dictionaries. That said, there is more to it than that. Students should be learning to turn to the dictionary during reading when they encounter difficulties, and it is rewarding to help them overcome this cognitive load challenge.(科技还能让学生点击单词查看释义。通过这种方式,出版商为学生提供了获取词义的途径,而不必让他们费力查阅词典。话虽如此,事情远不止于此。学生在阅读中遇到困难时,应当学会主动查阅词典,帮助他们克服这种认知负荷的挑战,是很有意义的。)”可知,本段说明技术不应取代词典的使用。故选C项。
30.细节理解题。根据第三段“However, dictionary instruction can be pretty bad, with a lot of focus on looking up words and little energy devoted to making sense of meanings or choosing the relevant ones.(然而,词典教学可能很糟糕,大多只关注查单词,很少花精力去理解释义或选择相关释义。)”可知,词典教学的问题在于只停留在查词层面。故选A项。
31.主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是根据最后一段“Dictionary instruction can provide a great opportunity to explore the grammatical relations among words, too. Such dictionary lessons will not directly increase vocabulary, but they will provide students with the proficiency (熟练) that they need to solve unknown words during reading, which is valuable.(词典教学也能为探究单词之间的语法关系提供绝佳机会。这类词典使用课程虽不会直接增加词汇量,但会培养学生在阅读中解决生词所需的熟练能力,这一点很有价值。)”可知,文章指出查词典不应只停留在“查找单词”,更要学会理解释义、处理信息、提升阅读能力。所以B项“Moving Beyond Just Looking Up Words(不止于查单词)”符合文意。故选B项。
D
Many people confuse hard-working people with workaholics(工作狂). How could a person tell that he/she is a workaholic? A workaholic works long hours, at the expense of personal relationships and health. When not working, they’re thinking about work. Work influences their mood: when work is going well, they’re up; when work is going less well, they’re down.
Working, or simply being busy, can be a hard habit to break. When workaholics aren’t busy working—or doing something to promote their work—they feel anxious and guilty. They hang onto jobs for dear life and do everything they can to make sure they’re essential.
There is a link between health problems and workaholism. Just because work itself is a respectable pursuit(追求) doesn’t mean that an addiction to it is any less damaging than other sorts of addictions. A number of studies show that workaholism has been associated with a wide range of health problems, such as anxiety and heart disease.
Besides health problems, being a workaholic brings other negative effects as well. A study published in the American Journal of Family Therapy found that working too much negatively influenced an employee’s marriage. This isn’t surprising, since if you’re married to your work, it can be difficult to be married to anything, or anyone, else. There have also been studies looking at the influence of workaholic parents on their children and the news isn’t good. Adult children of workaholic fathers experienced more depression and anxiety and a weaker sense of self.
However, there are also many positive aspects to working hard and to an increasing devotion to career. Hard work can bring great rewards. For many, it’s how they develop feelings of self-worth and confidence and purpose. If you have a workaholic in your life, you might point out the things he or she is missing out on while at work, whether it’s a child’s soccer game, a good book, or a yoga class. Seek to understand why the person feels the need to work so much and support them in finding a solution.
32. What can we infer about workaholics?
A. They put work in the first place.
B. They usually have life outside work.
C. They often get pleasure from work.
D. They win respect from their workmates.
33. What are Paragraphs 3 and 4 mainly about?
A. Bad influences of workaholism.
B. Reasons for being workaholics.
C. How people deal with their addictions.
D. How hard-working people differ from workaholics.
34. What can we do to help workaholics in life?
A. Force them to join family activities.
B. Reward them for their hard work.
C. Help them find self-worth and confidence.
D. Try to understand and support them.
35. What is the author’s attitude towards working hard?
A. Doubtful. B. Objective. C. Negative. D. Curious.
【答案】32. A 33. A 34. D 35. B
【分析】本文是一篇说明文。文章通过多方面的分析说明了工作狂的特点、沉迷工作的不利影响、努力工作的积极意义以及对待工作狂我们应持何种态度。
32.推理判断题。由文章第一段的“A workaholic works long hours, at the expense of personal relationships and health. When not working, they’re thinking about work. Work influences their mood: when work is going well, they’re up; when work is going less well, they’re down.(工作狂长时间工作,以牺牲人际关系和健康为代价。不工作的时候,他们想着工作。工作影响他们的情绪:当工作进展顺利时,他们会情绪高涨; 当工作进展不太顺利时,他们就会情绪低落。)”可推知工作狂把工作放在第一位。故选A。
33.主旨大意题。根据第三段和第四段中的“health problems, damaging, addiction, negative effects”等关键词可知,这两段主要讲工作狂的一些负面影响,故选A。
34.细节理解题。根据最后一段最后一句可知“Seek to understand why the person feels the need to work so much and support them in finding a solution. (试着去理解为什么这个人觉得有必要努力工作,并支持他们找到解决方案。)”由此可知,对待工作狂,我们要试着去理解和支持他们,故选D。
35.推理判断题。通读全文可知, 作者在客观地分析说明沉迷工作会带来的负面影响和努力工作的积极意义。故选B。
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
According to the IIE Open Doors Report, only 8% of international undergraduates used U.S. university scholarships as their main funding source in 2018, with universities covering most or all tuition and living costs. Many others got smaller performance-based scholarships to offset (抵消) some expenses. Though these successful applicants have diverse backgrounds, they share similar qualities that raise their chances for admissions and scholarships. Below are key strategies to improve your odds of getting such opportunities.
Grades and Test Scores
Most universities use high school grades and ACT/SAT scores to predict college performance. Even if these grades and test scores are optional for admission, they are usually required for scholarship consideration. ____36____
High School Curriculum
____37____ Scholarship programs also consider your academic performance in the context of your high school challenges. Such advanced coursework and extracurricular activities provide solid evidence that you are ready for college beyond regular curriculum. A student with strong grades in challenging classes is more attractive than one with similar scores in easier courses.
Recommendation Letters
Choose counselors and teachers who know you best to write your recommendation letter. A good letter should address your unique qualities, emphasize challenges you overcame, and reference your achievements mentioned in the application. ____38____ Scholarship committees rely on these letters to check your application information.
____39____ Selective programs want to ensure you fit their campus environment. Use your personal statement to explain your background, interests, and future goals related to the institution’s mission. Research the college thoroughly and practice expressing your ideas in both writing and interview formats.
Early Application and Interest
Waiting until the final deadline won’t help you win scholarships. Colleges often give scholarship preference to early applicants as they show more interest and likelihood to enroll. Reaching out to staff and faculty early can also bring advantages, as committees may note the quality of these interactions for future reference and consideration. ____40____
A. Personal Statements and Interviews
B. Seize preferred deadlines to get noticed.
C. Challenging courses show academic ambition.
D. Volunteer work boosts your application strengths.
E. Therefore, top 25% class grades can make it easier to get scholarships.
F. Achieving competitive standardized test scores may be optional sometimes.
G. It will showcase your strengths in detail and make your application impressive.
【答案】36. E 37. C 38. G 39. A 40. B

基础版:
My School Life
My school life is busy but colorful. Every morning, I arrive at school at 7:30 and start my day with morning reading. We have four classes in the morning and three in the afternoon.
My favorite subject is English. I love it because our English teacher always makes her classes lively and interesting. She often plays English songs and organizes group discussions, which helps me improve both my listening and speaking skills. Besides, learning English opens a window to the world for me.
After class, I enjoy playing basketball with my classmates on the playground. It's a great way to relax and build teamwork. Sometimes we also discuss problems together in the library.
I really love my school life. It's not just about studying — it's about growing, making friends, and becoming a better person.

My school life is a journey — not just through textbooks, but through growth. Each morning at 7:30, the classroom fills with the sound of reading, and I know another day has begun.
English class is when I feel most alive. My teacher doesn't just teach words; she opens doors. Through her, I've discovered stories that touch my heart and pen pals who share their worlds with me.
After school, basketball court calls. Sweating with teammates, I've learned that trust matters more than winning. We win together, lose together, and grow together.
School isn't just preparing me for the future. It's where I'm becoming who I am — one laugh, one lesson, one friendship at a time.
第二节(满分25分)
67. 阅读下面材料, 根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段, 使之构成一篇完整的短文。续写的词数应为150左右。
In fifth grade, my best friend Mia and I made matching friendship bracelets (手镯) in our favorite colors — blue for her, pink for me. Hers was decorated with a tiny star ornament (装饰物) she’d gotten for her birthday, and she never took it off. We promised to wear them forever, a symbol of our unbreakable friendship. Every time we hung out, she’d turn the star over and over again and say, “This bracelet’s not just string (绳子) — it’s us.”
Last month, our class had a talent show. Mia was going to play the violin, and she asked me to help her practice after school. On the day of the practice, she left her bracelet on my desk when she went to get her violin. My classmate Zoe, who loved handmade items, saw it and said, “Wow, that star is so cool! Can I just hold it for a second?” Before I could think, I handed it to her. But Zoe’s hands were sticky from eating a candy; she dropped it by accident, and the bracelet fell to the floor. The star broke, and the string we made came a little loose at the end.
Fear and anxiety shot through me. I quickly picked up the broken bracelet and hid it in my pencil case, my heart racing. When Mia came back, I avoided her eyes and lied, saying I hadn’t seen her bracelet since she left. The rest of the practice was a mess — I couldn’t focus on her music, and Mia kept looking at her empty wrist, not sure what was wrong.
That night, I couldn’t fall asleep. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw Mia’s sad face. The next day at school, I avoided her as much as I could. But when she walked up to me at lunch, her eyes red, I knew I couldn’t hide it anymore. I pulled the broken bracelet out of my bag and told her everything. I said sorry, promising I’d buy her a new decoration in the shape of a star, a new bracelet, anything.
注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Mia stared (盯着) at the broken bracelet for a long time.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
That afternoon, we tried our best to remake the bracelet.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】
Mia stared (盯着) at the broken bracelet for a long time. Her eyes glistened with unshed tears, and I felt my heart sink further with each passing second. Finally, she looked up at me, her voice barely above a whisper. “It’s not just the bracelet, you know,” she said softly. “It’s what it represents. But I know you didn’t do it on purpose.” Her words made me feel even worse, but also a glimmer of hope. I reached out, tentatively touching her arm. “I’ll fix it, Mia. I promise,” I vowed, determined to make things right between us.
That afternoon, we tried our best to remake the bracelet. We went to the craft store and bought new materials, including a shiny new star ornament that was even more beautiful than the original. Back at my house, we sat at the kitchen table, carefully threading the string and attaching the star. Mia’s fingers were steady as she worked, but I could see the sadness lingering in her eyes. As we finished the last knot, she looked at the bracelet and then at me, a small smile tugging at the corners of her lips. “It’s different, but it’s still us,” she said, and I knew that our friendship, though tested, was still unbreakable.

When planning a trip, culture and history often top the list. Beijing in 2026 offers travelers fresh ways to explore these aspects in this most culture-rich capital.
For starters, the Beijing Central Axis has been recently added to the UNESCO World Heritage List. This nearly five-mile strip is home to imperial buildings and gardens. A new sightseeing bus now makes it easier to view the highlights, including the Temple of Heaven, the Forbidden City, and the Drum and Bell Towers. They are all stunning examples of ancient Chinese city planning.
More imperial history awaits at the Ming Tombs. A project is underway to gradually open all 13 tomb complexes to the public. The tomb of Emperor Chongzhen was among the first three to open, with more to come as soon as 2026.
In the mountains north of the city, the Great Wall has become a new star of Beijing’s nighttime economy. Sections like Mutianyu and Juyongguan now offer warm-weather after-dark tours, with the wall beautifully lit up. South of Beijing, a new hiking trail has been built at Zhoukoudian, where the bones of Peking Man were discovered.
Finally, travel around the city are getting easier. Visa-free stays have been extended, and foreigners can now use their credit cards to take the Beijing Subway. Some Chinese smartphone apps also offer English interfaces, making exploration smoother than ever.

24. What can we learn about Song Lingdong from Paragraphs 2 &3?
A. He became a pilot without difficulty.
B. He did very well in his physical tests.
C. He managed to make up for his weaknesses.
D. He received the highest score in every exam.
25. What inspired Song Lingdong to be an astronaut?
A. A TV news report. B. A childhood dream.
C. His hard work in training. D. His curiosity about space.
26. Which of the following best describes Song Lingdong?
A. Shallow. B. Talented. C. Frank. D. Hardworking.
27. What can we learn from Song Lingdong’s story?
A. It is never too old to learn.
B. Actions speak louder than words.
C. A friend in need is a friend indeed.
D. Where there is a will, there is a way.

A. Doubtful. B. Objective. C. Negative. D. Curious.

注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Mia stared (盯着) at the broken bracelet for a long time.

We aim to offer accommodation to offer their students. First of all, there is a Brown hall, which is not the most modern of buildings, but IT is fairly popular. Unlike the other halls, IT has recently had a gym built in its basement. Another option is Blake residents built like a large house. Everybody cooks and deeds together. IT has a private garden and is even more peaceful because this is an all girl's residents, but boys can visit IT. The largest one we have is queens building, and this has been upgraded recently. The original parking area has been built on a bedroom, now has its own shower room. A further option is the parkway flats with a preservation order. This has meant that only only a limited amount could be done to upgrade IT, and the surrounding area is important, so parking is not permitted around the flats. However, the flat do have many extra facilities, such as a special computer room, a small library at a self service restaurant. The cost of meals is covered in the fees, so IT does look a bit more expensive. Good afternoon, and welcome to stand in university. I'm here to tell you about the various storms we have.

A. Doubtful. B. Objective. C. Negative. D. Curious.
