He looks scared, and I’m urging him to try, almost begging. The reason for my enthusiasm? Just a few weeks earlier, I stood frozen in that same spot before taking my own leap. I know how amazed he’ll feel afterward, so we take baby steps. Finally, he does it all on his own. As he makes it, his smile lights up the entire skatepark. There’s something magical about skateboarding: In a flash, fright turns into delight. My husband and I began skating even when we are in our 40s, so that we could learn alongside our son. As a “later skater”, I’ve come to realize that everything seems impossible until you try it. At the time, I had no idea how much I would gain from the not-so-simple art of standing sideways. First, skateboarding teaches determination because progress comes from efforts. No matter how skilled the crowd or how gravity-defying (反重力的) the moves, you’ll see just as many tricks going wrong as right. Irish writer Samuel Beckett could have been speaking for skaters when he wrote: “Try again. Fail again. Fail better.” There are also plenty of sensible benefits, such as mindfulness. When you’re skateboarding, it’s almost impossible to think of anything else. What magic it is to step on a piece of wood with four little wheels and be transported to a place where your head is emptied and the outside world can’t touch you. The best part, though? The community. My husband, son and I are part of an informal group of parents and children who skate together. We love it, from the clear ringing sound beneath our wheels to the way the sun makes the graffiti-covered buildings pop with color. We make friends and learn from one another. We face our fears side by side, cheer for the highs, and share the falls. 4. Why did the author urge her son to try? A. She was troubled by his falling behind. B. She wanted him to defeat fear quickly. C. She worried about his lack of enthusiasm. D. She wished him to enjoy the delight after fear. 5. What is the author’s purpose in mentioning Samuel Beckett? A. To explain how to avoid failures. B. To prove skateboarding needs talent. C. To stress the value of consistent efforts. D. To show sports’ influence on literature. 6. What is the benefit of skateboarding according to Paragraph 4? A. It makes people think more clearly. B. It helps keep the distractions away. C. It encourages skaters to build connections. D. It speeds skaters to escape from chasers. 7. What message does the author convey in the text? A. Any risky sport is worth trying. B. Courageous attempts lead to growth. C. Parents should push children to take risks. D. Constant failure ensures ultimate success. D 5. C 6. B 7. 根据第一段中“The reason for my enthusiasm? Just a few weeks earlier, I stood frozen in that same spot before taking my own leap. I know how amazed he’ll feel afterward, so we take baby steps. (我这么热情的原因是什么呢?就在几周前,我在尝试自己的跳跃前,也曾僵在同一个位置。我知道他之后会有多惊喜,所以我们先从一小步一小步开始尝试)”以及第二段开头“In a flash, fright turns into delight. (一瞬间,恐惧就变成了喜悦)”可知,作者催促儿子尝试是因为她希望儿子体验恐惧之后的喜悦。故选D项。 【5题详解】 推理判断题。第三段开头提到“First, skateboarding teaches determination because progress comes from efforts. (首先,滑板运动能培养人的毅力,因为进步源于付出的努力)”,随后引用Samuel Beckett的话“Try again. Fail again. Fail better. (再试一次。再失败一次。失败得更有意义一些)”,是为了强调滑板需要持续努力的价值。故选C项。 【6题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段中“When you’re skateboarding, it’s almost impossible to think of anything else. What magic it is to step on a piece of wood with four little wheels and be transported to a place where your head is emptied and the outside world can’t touch you. (当你玩滑板的时候,几乎不可能再去想别的事情。踏上一块装着四个小轮子的木板,便能进入一个大脑放空、外界一切都无法侵扰你的奇妙境界,这是何等神奇啊)”可知,滑板的好处是帮助远离外界干扰。故选B项。 【7题详解】 推理判断题。第一段中作者描述儿子“looks scared (看起来很害怕)”,但在尝试后“his smile lights up the entire skatepark (他笑容点亮了整个滑板场 )”,体现了勇敢尝试后收获喜悦;第二段提到作者夫妇“began skating even when we are in our 40s, so that we could learn alongside our son (即便40多岁也开始学滑板,和儿子一起成长)”,以及“everything seems impossible until you try it (在尝试前一切都看似不可能)”;第三、四段通过“skateboarding teaches determination (滑板运动能培养人的毅力)”、“we make friends and learn from one another (我们结交朋友、彼此学习)”等内容,展现尝试滑板过程中成长的收获。 C A large U.S. study found that older adults who drink coffee — whether caffeinated or decaffeinated — tend to have a lower risk of death compared to non-coffee drinkers. The research, led by scientists from the National Institutes of Health, observed a reduced risk of death from heart disease, stroke, diabetes, infections, and other causes, though no clear link was found with cancer-related deaths. The study followed 400,000 adults aged 50-71 over 13 years. Participants reported their coffee habits once at the start of the study. Results showed that those who drank three or more cups daily had about a 10% lower risk of death than non-drinkers. This association remained even after adjusting for factors like smoking and diet. However, researchers cautioned that the findings do not prove coffee directly extends lifespan. “Coffee is widely consumed, but its health effects have been debated,” said Dr. Neal Freedman, lead author of the study. “While we can’t confirm coffee causes a longer life, these results strongly indicate it isn’t harmful and might even be beneficial.” Notably, the type of caffeine (caffeinated vs. decaf) mattered little, implying that other compounds in coffee — e.g. antioxidants — might play a role. Coffee contains over 1,000 chemicals, many of which could influence health. Of course, the study has limitations. Coffee intake was self-reported only once, and preparation methods were not analyzed. Differences in brewing might affect the health properties of coffee. Additionally, while coffee was linked to lower overall death risk, men who drank large amounts showed a slight increase in cancer deaths, though this was not strongly conclusive. Experts emphasize that lifestyle factors matter. Coffee drinkers may have shared other healthy habits. “This doesn’t mean everyone should start drinking coffee,” said Freedman. “But it offers reassurance that moderate consumption is likely safe.” Published in the New England Journal of Medicine in 2012, this research adds to evidence that coffee, when enjoyed in moderation, could be a component of healthy lifestyle. Future studies will explore how specific compounds in coffee interact with the body. 8. What on earth plays a crucial role in coffee drinkers’ living longer? A. The type of caffeine (regular or decaf). B. The brewing methods used in the study. C. Coffee drinkers’ healthier life habits. D. Antioxidants and other compounds in coffee. 9. What can we learn from the study on coffee drinking? A. The Study confirms coffee directly extends lifespan. B. More studies are still needed to confirm the finding. C. Drinking coffee reduces the risk of cancer-related deaths. D. The study conducted nationwide covered all age groups. 10. What attitude should we take towards the research findings? A. Largely dismissive. B. Completely convinced. C. Uncritically enthusiastic. D. Cautiously optimistic. 11. Which of the following could be the best title for the article? A. Coffee Linked to Lower Death Risk B. Coffee Can Extend Lifespan Directly C. Decaf Coffee Has Been Proved Healthier D. New Study Confirms Coffee Cures Illnesses 【答案】8. D 9. B 10. D 11. 根据第四段中的“Notably, the type of caffeine (caffeinated vs. decaf) mattered little, implying that other compounds in coffee — e.g. antioxidants — might play a role.(值得注意的是,咖啡因的类型(含咖啡因或脱咖啡因)影响不大,这意味着咖啡中的其他物质——例如抗氧化剂——可能起到了作用。)” 根据最后一段中的“Published in the New England Journal of Medicine in 2012, this research adds to evidence that coffee, when enjoyed in moderation, could be a component of healthy lifestyle. Future studies will explore how specific compounds in coffee interact with the body.(这项2012年发表在《新英格兰医学杂志》上的研究进一步证明,适量饮用咖啡可能是健康生活方式的一部分。未来的研究将探索咖啡中的特定物质如何与人体相互作用。)”可知,仍需要更多研究来证实该发现。故选B项。 【10题详解】 推理判断题。根据第二段中的“However, researchers cautioned that the findings do not prove coffee directly extends lifespan.(然而,研究人员警告说,这些发现并不能证明咖啡直接延长寿命。)”和最后一段中的“Future studies will explore how specific compounds in coffee interact with the body.(未来的研究将探索咖啡中的特定物质如何与人体相互作用。)” 通读全文,尤其是第一段中的“A large U.S. study found that older adults who drink coffee — whether caffeinated or decaffeinated — tend to have a lower risk of death compared to non-coffee drinkers.(美国一项大型研究发现,与不喝咖啡的人相比,喝咖啡的老年人——无论是含咖啡因还是脱咖啡因的——死亡风险往往更低。)” 故选A项。 D Using crushed rock dust to speed up the rate at which soils absorb carbon dioxide could also affect the climate by making Earth’s surface reflect more or less of the sun’s radiation. Enhanced rock weathering (ERW), is rapidly growing around the world. It involves sprinkling (洒) crushed, volcanic rock, such as basalt (玄武岩), onto soils to accelerate the natural weathering process by which CO₂ in the atmosphere is converted to stable minerals. But if the practice is scaled up to cover large areas of land around the world, it could alter the planet’s reflectivity, or albedo, according to Brad Marston at Brown University in Rhode Island. Albedo is a measure of how much light something reflects, on a scale from 0 (none) to 1 (all). Whiter areas of the planet like the polar ice caps bounce more sunlight back into space, providing a cooling effect, while darker areas absorb more heat and speed up warming. If the rock dust spread on fields is paler than the existing soil, Earth’s albedo could increase, says Marston, boosting the cooling effect from ERW. However, if the dust is darker than the soil, it could have the opposite effect. Based on modelling, Marston and his colleague estimate that if 5 million square kilometres of agricultural land were spread with crushed rock, it could remove about 1 gigatonne (十亿吨) of CO₂ per year from the atmosphere. “Increasing albedo by just 0.1 on all agricultural land would result in Earth cooling by roughly 1°C, they estimate. If ERW had a positive impact on Earth’s albedo, it could provide a double climate benefit, says Marston, offering long-term cooling thanks to the soil’s increased CO₂ absorption and short-term cooling from the albedo change. But other researchers aren’t convinced ERW could alter planetary albedo. Noah Planavsky at Yale University says most farmers try to minimize the amount of time that soil is exposed. “For most of the year, you have a crop that is totally covering the soil or you have the remains after harvest,” he says. That means Marston and Ibarra may have overestimated the albedo impact of ERW, he says. 12. What is the main purpose of ERW according to the passage? A. To protect crops from climate change. B. To change the color of agricultural soils. C. To speed up soils’ absorption of carbon dioxide. D. To bring down Earth’s reflectivity and cool the planet. 13. What do we know about albedo from paragraph 4? A. Paler soils are more likely to help increase albedo. B. All white surfaces have an albedo value exactly equal to 1. C. Albedo works best at high altitude areas like mountain tops. D Darker soils have higher albedo practical value for rock dust. 14. What can we infer from Noah Planavsky’s words? A. Farmers often cover the soil for a long time. B. Farmers make efforts to reduce the ERW influence. C. ERW may not work as effective as Marston expected. D. Cover crops might do harm to agricultural production. 15. What is the best title for the passage? A. ERW: A Double Benefit for Climate? B. ERW: An Inspiring Application in Agriculture. C. Rock Dust: A Perfect Material to Capture Carbon? D. Albedo: Best Solution to Reducing Atmospheric CO₂. 【答案】12. C 13. A 14. C 15. A 【解析】 【导语】这是一篇说明文。文章主要说明了ERW技术可加速土壤固碳,还可能通过改变地表反照率带来双重降温效益,但有研究者质疑其对反照率的实际影响。 【12题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段“Enhanced rock weathering (ERW), is rapidly growing around the world. It involves sprinkling crushed, volcanic rock, such as basalt, onto soils to accelerate the natural weathering process by which CO₂ in the atmosphere is converted to stable minerals.(增强型岩石风化(ERW)在全球范围内正迅速兴起。这种技术包括将破碎的火山岩(如玄武岩)撒在土壤上,以加速大气中二氧化碳转化为稳定矿物质的自然风化过程)”可知,ERW的核心目的是加速土壤对二氧化碳的吸收与转化,故选C。 【13题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段“If the rock dust spread on fields is paler than the existing soil, Earth’s albedo could increase, says Marston, boosting the cooling effect from ERW.(马斯顿表示,如果在田地表面撒上的岩尘颜色比现有土壤颜色浅,那么地球的反照率就会提高,从而增强地表反射辐射冷却效应的效果)”可知,颜色更浅的土壤或岩尘更易提升反照率,故选A。 【14题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段““For most of the year, you have a crop that is totally covering the soil or you have the remains after harvest,” he says. That means Marston and Ibarra may have overestimated the albedo impact of ERW, he says.(他说:“在一年中的大部分时间里,要么是农作物完全覆盖着土壤,要么就是收割后的残余物。”这意味着马斯顿和伊巴拉可能高估了ERW对反射率的影响了。)”可知,他认为Marston团队高估了ERW对反照率的影响,即ERW效果可能不如预期,故选C。 【15题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第一段“Using crushed rock dust to speed up the rate at which soils absorb carbon dioxide could also affect the climate by making Earth’s surface reflect more or less of the sun’s radiation.(利用碎石粉尘来加快土壤吸收二氧化碳的速度,还可能通过改变地球表面对太阳辐射的反射程度来影响气候)”结合文章主要说明了ERW技术可加速土壤固碳,还可能通过改变地表反照率带来双重降温效益,但有研究者质疑其对反照率的实际影响。可知,A选项“ERW:气候的双重益处?”最符合文章标题。故选A。 第二节(共 5 小题, 每小题 2.5 分, 共 12.5 分) 阅读下面短文, 从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Some people prefer to have a bite to eat before hitting the gym, known as a fed workout. Others would like to wait until after exercising to refuel their bodies, called a fasted workout. To eat or not to eat, that is the question on many fitness enthusiasts' minds. ____16____ If you want energy and strength for an ideal workout, you need fuel. A fed workout will provide your body with power. ____17____ These benefits can result in burning more fat and shaping a slimmer body. Muscle preservation is also an essential component of strengthening your body. Nitrogen (氮) is critical for processing protein that builds healthy muscles. People tend to lose less nitrogen during a fed workout than a fasted one. Many fitness enthusiasts are not on board with this idea. They report feeling sick and inactive while trying to exercise after eating. With a fasted workout, you may not get the usual indigestion. Experts for fasted workouts further claim that eating afterwards makes your body use its fat reserves for energy, meaning you will burn more fat. ____18____ It can cause a sudden drop in your blood glucose levels, and you may feel dizzy. You may even be more likely to overeat. Knowing what to eat for an ideal workout is just as important as knowing when to eat. ____19____ For example, if you choose a fed workout, you'll probably lose a lot of water during an intense training, so you should consider drinking some beforehand. With a fasted workout, it would help if you had some nutrition right after your session is complete. Drink some water. Then, have a light meal or nutritional snack. ____20____ Both fasted workouts and fed activities have their benefits and shortcomings. Think thoroughly and discuss with your fitness instructor before taking a choice. A. Not all foods are created equal. B. However, a fasted workout might not work for you. C. Deciding when to eat for an ideal workout is a personal choice. D. How your body will respond is based on your workout intensity. E. Many experts say there's no easy answer because it depends on the person. F. A person doing a 30-minute session a day may have a problem with fasted workouts. G. Eating before exercise may help you sustain longer sessions and lift heavier weights. 【答案】16. E 17. G 18. B 19. A 20. C 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章围绕健身前是否进食这一健身爱好者关心的问题,分别介绍了“进食后健身”和“空腹健身”的优缺点,同时给出了相关饮食建议,强调选择哪种方式需因人而异。 【16题详解】 根据上文“To eat or not to eat, that is the question on many fitness enthusiasts' minds.(吃还是不吃,这是许多健身爱好者心中的疑问。)”可知,此处需回应这一疑问,说明没有简单答案的原因。E选项“Many experts say there's no easy answer because it depends on the person.(许多专家表示,这个问题没有简单的答案,因为它因人而异。)”直接回应了上文的疑问,点明“因人而异”的核心,为下文分别介绍两种健身方式做铺垫,符合语境。故选E项。 【17题详解】 根据上文“A fed workout will provide your body with power.(进食后健身会为你的身体提供能量。)”以及下文“These benefits can result in burning more fat and shaping a slimmer body.(这些好处可以帮助燃烧更多脂肪,塑造更苗条的身材。)”可知,此处需具体说明进食后健身的好处。G选项“Eating before exercise may help you sustain longer sessions and lift heavier weights.(运动前进食可以帮助你坚持更长时间的训练,举起更重的重量。)”具体阐述了进食后健身的两大优势,“These benefits”即指代该选项中的内容,衔接自然,符合语境。故选G项。 【18题详解】 根据上文“Experts for fasted workouts further claim that eating afterwards makes your body use its fat reserves for energy, meaning you will burn more fat.(支持空腹健身的专家进一步声称,运动后进食会让身体利用脂肪储备供能,这意味着你会燃烧更多脂肪。)”以及下文“It can cause a sudden drop in your blood glucose levels, and you may feel dizzy.(它会导致血糖水平突然下降,你可能会感到头晕。)”可知,此处需转折说明空腹健身的弊端。B选项“However, a fasted workout might not work for you.(然而,空腹健身可能并不适合你。)”以“However”形成转折,引出下文空腹健身的负面影响,符合语境。故选B项。 【19题详解】 根据上文“Knowing what to eat for an ideal workout is just as important as knowing when to eat.(知道健身时该吃什么,和知道什么时候吃一样重要。)”以及下文列举的运动前补水、运动后补充营养等具体例子可知,此处需强调饮食选择的重要性。A选项“Not all foods are created equal.(并非所有食物都是一样的。)”承接上文“该吃什么”的话题,暗示需要合理选择饮食,引出下文的具体饮食建议,符合语境。故选A项。 【20题详解】 根据下文“Both fasted workouts and fed activities have their benefits and shortcomings. You’d think they would, with only two years between them. Yet from the minute Susie was born, Amanda knew the baby resented her. Now, despite being in their fifties, the hatred was still fresh in their minds. The only thing they had in common was that they both adored their mother. Then one day, when Amanda was in the classroom, teaching a particularly challenging group of teenagers, her father rang with the terrible news that their mother had died suddenly. Both sisters were stricken with grief, but Susie, who’d been looking after her granddaughter when she got the call, was also upset that their father hadn’t informed her first. Then their father told them about their mother’s will. “She’s left you the painting.” He seemed to be addressing them both the painting — the source of one of their biggest childhood arguments. Their mother had decided that it would be nice to have a photo of both her girls. “Did Mum leave the portrait to me?” asked Amanda. No, Susie wanted to say. Surely her mother couldn’t have been so biased. “In fact,” replied their father, “she’s left it to both of you.” “How’s that going to work?” asked Amanda. “We live miles apart.” “Thankfully” muttered Susie. Amanda shot her a displeased look. “The will demands that you each have it for six months and then swap over, for as long as you both live.” So, every six months Amanda and Susie drove to a service station between their homes and carefully handed over the painting. Two years passed. The funny thing was that the sisters saw more of each other than they had done for years. Sometimes Susie tried to start a conversation, and Amanda claimed she had to dash. Sometimes it was the other way round. But then came a bright winter day when Susic turned up for the handover, and her sister wasn’t there. Amanda was often late, but never three hours late. She wasn’t even replying to Susie’s “Where were you” texts. 注意: (1)续写词数应为150个左右; (2)请按如下格式在答题纸的相应位置作答。 All kinds of thoughts ran through Susie’s head as she drove to the hospital. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ “I think that’s the first time you’ve ever said those words to me.” Amanda squeezed her sister’s hand. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】范文 All kinds of thoughts ran through Susie’s head as she drove to the hospital. The icy road mirrored the chill in her heart — images of Amanda’s sharp words and coldshoulders flooded her mind. Yet beneath the decades of resentment lay a thread of fear she’d never acknowledged: the fear of losing her sister. Her hands trembled, each mile stretching into an eternity. When she finally arrived, the hospital corridors echoed with the weight of unspoken words. A nurse directed her to a room where Amanda lay pale, an oxygen mask covering her face. Amanda’s breath was weak; the painting, their mother’s will, even their petty quarrels — none of it mattered now. “You’re here, and the constant worry is eating me alive” Susie whispered in a soft tone, her eyes glistening. “I think that’s the first time you’ve ever said those words to me.” Amanda squeezed her sister’s hand. Amanda’s fingers, powerless yet warm, clung to hers. “I’m sorry,” Susie murmured, tears blurring her eyes. “For everything.” The admission hung in the air, fragile as the dawn light filtering through the window. Amanda removed the mask with effort, with her face lighting up, uttering, “Me too.” In that exactly split second, the portrait — their mother’s silent wish — seemed to watch over them. Years of bitterness dissolved into the quiet understanding that some bonds, though broken, are mended not by grand gestures but by shared vulnerability. Outside, the first snow of winter began to fall, blanketing the world in a hushed promise of renewal. 词汇激活 行为类 ①颤抖:tremble/shake ②拿掉:remove/take off ③重要:matter/count 情绪类 ①担心:worry/concern ②恐惧:fear/dread 【点睛】【高分句型1】When she finally arrived, the hospital corridors echoed with the weight of unspoken words.(由when引导时间状语从句) 【高分句型 1. B It’s January 2022, and my seven-year-old son is standing on his skateboard at the top of a concrete slope (斜坡). C It encourages skaters to build connections. D. It speeds skaters to escape from chasers. 7. What message does the author convey in the text? A. Any risky sport is worth trying. B. Courageous attempts lead to growth. C. Parents should push children to take risks. D. Constant failure ensures ultimate success. C A large U.S. study found that older adults who drink coffee — whether caffeinated or decaffeinated — tend to have a lower risk of death compared to non-coffee drinkers. D The study conducted nationwide covered all age groups. 10. What attitude should we take towards the research findings? A. Largely dismissive. B. Completely convinced. C. Uncritically enthusiastic. D. Cautiously optimistic. 11. Which of the following could be the best title for the article? A. Coffee Linked to Lower Death Risk B. Coffee Can Extend Lifespan Directly C. Decaf Coffee Has Been Proved Healthier D. New Study Confirms Coffee Cures Illnesses D Using crushed rock dust to speed up the rate at which soils absorb carbon dioxide could also affect the climate by making Earth’s surface reflect more or less of the sun’s radiation. Based on modelling Marston and his colleague estimate that if 5 million square kilometres of agricultural land were spread with crushed rock, it could remove about 1 gigatonne (十亿吨) of CO₂ per year from the atmosphere. D. Darker soils have higher albedo practical value for rock dust. 第二节(共 5 小题, 每小题 2.5 分, 共 12.5 分) 阅读下面短文, 从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Some people prefer to have a bite to eat before hitting the gym, known as a fed workout. 第三部分 语言运用(共两节, 满分 30 分) 第一节(共 15 小题;每小题 1 分, 共 15 分) 阅读下面短文, 从每题所给的 A 、B 、C 、D 四个选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 The August sun beat down without mercy. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
