第三讲 据词汇线索解题
Ⅰ.阅读理解
A
(2025·广东汕头二模)There are decisions we take on instinct, without even realising we are taking them.
Two years ago, I left Germany to do volunteering work.I had a couple of disappointing experiences and a boring job in front of me.It was time to go.I found an interesting contact in a small village in Portugal. In exchange for room and board, I would be working with animals in a residence that hosted families with disabled people. And there I went, and with just a backpack I was ready to jump into a new adventure.
There, I cared for the pets living next to the residents, cleaning their yard, preparing food and caring for them.Within a month, I was in charge of all the other volunteers and the organization of the daily work. After 5 months, I left again and moved to Catalonia, in Spain, to live with an Irish family. They offered a roof and food on the passage of their house for abandoned animals I helped care for.
During both experiences, I had the chance to discover beautiful little towns and lovely villages. In Portugal, I walked on the coastline and explored those little towns on the top of the dry hills. In Spain I visited Barcelona multiple times, discovering little by little all its corners.Sometimes, my volunteering experience was complicated.I didn’t speak any Portuguese and only a bit of Spanish. But life out there was simple. It was so different from what I used to call “home” before! Going back to previous habits took me time.
If you’re wondering if an international volunteering year gap is worth it, despite the uncertain future and the social pressure, I say: go for it.Believe me, in various ways, you will be sure to return transformed, perhaps even improved to a superior version of your former self. With a bit of luck, you may also discover a new career path.

B
(2025·河南开封模拟)If current global trends are correct, in 2026, about 41 million people around the world will die from noncommunicable (非传染的) diseases (NCDs) — which include cancer, heart disease, severe mental illness and so on — representing around 74 percent of all deaths globally.
Fortunately, a number of recent studies in cities across the globe suggest that people who live in greener areas not only present a lower rate of NCDs but also have significantly better physical and mental health.
What is it about green spaces that provides resistance to NCDs? Greater opportunities to exercise, cleaner air, and less heat stress are all reasons.Importantly, there is also scientific evidence that shows that when we directly interact with nature, biochemical pathways are activated in our bodies that result in significant beneficial health impacts.
The good news is that we can obtain similar health benefits in urban green spaces and with indoor plants.Clinical experiments show that something as simple as having a vase of unscented (无香味的) roses on your desk, for instance, can significantly lower your blood pressure and bring about physiological and psychological calming. So too can having leafy plants in your home and office.
According to the clinical experiments, when we breathe in a scent we don’t just breathe it out again: Instead, some of the molecules (分子) that create the smell, called volatile organic compounds (挥发性有机化合物), pass across the lung and into our blood.People who walk in scented forests for two hours, for example, have been shown to have significantly high levels of the scent compound in their blood.Once in our blood, these compounds interact with our biochemical pathways in similar ways to drugs, bringing about positive health outcomes.
This new body of clinical evidence means that, in 2026, doctors will increasingly prescribe (开处方) nature instead of prescribing drugs.Urban planners, on other hand, will no longer consider green spaces as replaceable.Instead, nature will be seen as part of the critical system of a healthy city.
5.Why does the author list figures in paragraph 1?( )
A.To present NCDs are far from urgent.
B.To show NCDs are growing into a killer.
C.To illustrate NCDs have claimed many lives.
D.To demonstrate NCDs include a wide range of diseases.
6.How can one avoid NCDs from the passage?( )
A.By working out indoors. B.By purifying surrounding air.
C.By handling stress smartly. D.By taking walks in parks.
7.What happens when we breathe in a scent?( )
A.Its molecules make little difference to our body.
B.Its molecules work with biochemical pathways.
C.Its molecules only travel from one organ to another.
D.Its molecules can turn into some kind of medicine.
8.Which of the following may the author agree with?( )
A.Doctors should prioritize green plants as treatment.
B.Doctors should value the application of clinical experiments.
C.City planners should construct more urban parks and gardens.
D.City planners should co-work with doctors.
