Just as the saying goes, “When in Rome, do as the Romans do.” When you are in China, you should follow the customs here. When you meet somebody for the first time in China, you should shake hands and say, “How do you do?” You don’t need to bow or kiss the side of the face. When you are eating at the table, it’s impolite to stick your chopsticks into the food. You are not supposed to point at others with your chopsticks. You’d better not speak with your mouth full. If you visit a friend’s home, it’s polite to bring a small gift and take off your shoes before entering the house. By the way, you should pay attention to the weather in July. It might be quite hot, so bring some light and thin clothes. Also, make sure you have enough money for your trip, as it’s not convenient to exchange money in some places. I hope you will have a wonderful time in China. Here are three important characters. 1Ban Zhao (45—116): China’s First Female Historian As the first woman in Chinese history to work as a professional historian, Ban Zhao completed her brother Ban Gu’s important work Book of Han, which recorded 230 years of Western Han history. Emperor He admired her work so much that he asked her to teach history and astronomy to the royal family (皇室). Her most famous work Lessons for Women, with some old ideas by today’s standards, expressed the importance of education for women-a very new idea at the time. 2 Huang Daopo (1245—1330): The Cotton Queen This amazing inventor changed China’s cotton industry forever. After spending years learning advanced weaving (纺织) skills from the Li people in Hainan, she returned to her hometown near Shanghai and invented three game-changing tools: the cotton fluffer (to prepare cotton faster), the foot-powered spinning wheel (to spin thread more easily), and the multi-spindle weaving machine (to weave cloth quicker). Her inventions made cloth—making four times faster and helped many people earn money. 3Lady Yi (2nd Century): China’s First Female Doctor During China’s Western Han Dynasty (25—220 AD), while most women usually stayed at home, Lady Yi broke barriers (障碍) as China’s first recorded female doctor. She started as a palace maid (宫女) but taught herself medicine by secretly reading books in the royal library at night. Her big break came when she cured the Emperor’s favorite wife of a mysterious fever that male doctors couldn’t deal with. Then she became the first female Palace Medical Officer. Her artemisia treatment later helped scientist Tu Youyou won the Nobel Prize with her malaria (疟疾) treatment in 2015! 23.How did Huang Daopo improve China’s cotton industry? A.By teaching women to read and write. B.By writing books about Han Dynasty history. C.By inventing tools making cloth production faster. D.By discovering new medicines for kinds of diseases. 24.Why was Lady Yi’s work important? A.She became China’s first female historian and writer. B.She invented foot-powered machines for farming. C.She wrote numbers of Lessons for Women about education. D.She helped develop a Nobel Prize-winning malaria treatment. 25.What is the main purpose of this passage? A.To compare the lives of women in ancient and those in modern China. B.To describe three influential women in Chinese history and their achievements. C.To explain how ancient Chinese inventions are still being used today. D.To argue that women were more important than men in ancient China. B What happens when street dance meets Chinese martial arts (武术)? We recently found an impressive answer in two dancing boys. Earlier this month, Song Haoming, 10, and Fu Junxi, 14, made history at Juste Debout 2025 in Paris. Juste Debout is the world’s biggest street dance competition. In the finals, they danced Hip-Hop (嘻哈). They beat stronger adult dancers to enter the final four. Few had expected them to get this far. Song and Fu are very different. Pan Limin, the leader of CHUC’s youth street dance team, said the two boys were like fire and water. "Song is full of energy-always laughing and playful-just like fire," he said. "Fu is quiet, just like water.” In their dance, the pair wowed the audience with their cool Drunken Fist (醉拳) and Tai Chi moves. These martial arts elements (元素) added lots of energy to their performance. “The kids made up the moves themselves,” said Ms. Jia, Fu’s mother. “Their hard work paid off, and you could feel the excitement there.” Chinese elements have been used in street dance before. “Back in 2018, we used traditional culture in our dance called Yellow, River,” said Mr. Zhang, who works at CHUC. "We won the Lotus Award, China’s top dance prize." The use of Chinese elements allows for more possibilities to explore the art of street dance. Apart from Song and Fu, three other children took part in this year’s Juste Debout event. They also did well in their group, the Junior Dance Tour. "All five of our children made it to the final eight in their groups," said Pan. “But there are many more talented kids in our country. They just need a chance to show themselves.” 26.Why was it unexpected that they entered the final four? A.Because they were the youngest among all the dancers. B.Because they amazingly beat the older, more powerful dancers. C.Because they used some foreign dance styles. D.Because they didn’t take part in any international competitions before. 27.Which of the following might be the judges’ response (裁判的反应) to their show? A.They preferred modern street dance. B.They were impressed by the cultural mix. C.They thought the boys were too young. D.They wanted more difficult moves. 28.Why does the author mention the Lotus Award? A.To explain how to win competitions. B.To list all dance awards in China. C.To show this was the first Chinese dance prize. D.To prove mixing Chinese culture has worked before. 29.What might help Song and Fu succeed according to the passage? A.Natural talent and good luck. B.Creativity and hard work. C.Bravery and cleverness. D.Excellent teacher and hard training. C A reality show about farming called Become a Farmer (《种地吧》) has recently become popular. Ten boys are given the task of spending 190 days on about 9.5 hectares’ of land. sowing, fertilizing (施肥) and harvesting the wheat in the countryside. These boys were already idols on stage before they joined the reality show. Now it is especially awesome to see them leave the stage and experience life of a farmer. It’s hard to imagine a group of people who have never done farm work before and yet have to do it now. They work together and encourage each other in their tasks. They have all sorts of goals and they believe that any dream can come true through their hard work. As they support each other all the time, they not only create wealth but also develop a close friendship through farming. This show also gets me thinking about how different lifestyles are in cities from those in the countryside. Farmers who raise pigs, cows, chickens and ducks at home do not get lost in the burden of modern society. For them, it is only life and nature that bring out the truest emotions in a person. While in big cities, people are stressed out by the fast pace of city life and the non-stop work day and night, so watching this show can help heal their tired hearts. The most important thing in making a successful reality show is to bring out its authenticity (真实性) which can win praise from its audience, and help people to release their stress from their busy everyday lives. 30.What can we learn about the reality show from Paragraph 1 and Paragraph 2? A.Ten high school students joined the reality show. B.The boys need to work on the farmland for over half a year. C.The boys have done some farm work before. D.Each boy needs to finish his task all by himself. 31.Which word can be used to describe the boys in the reality show? A.Smart and creative. B.Brave and helpful. C.Hard-working and friendly. D.Talented and skillful. 32.What makes this show successful? A.The boys have many followers on social media platforms B.The boys are really very good at farming. C.Watching this show helps people reduce stress. D.This show teaches people a lot of farming skills. 33.In which section of a newspaper can you probably read this article? A.Busy City life. B.Modern Farming. C.Science and Technology. D.TV Shows and Culture. D US poet Allen Ginsberg once said, “Poetry (诗歌) is the one place where people can speak their original (独创的) human mind.” To know the special ability of poetry to catch the human spirit, World Poetry Day is held by the United Nations on March 21 each year. The magic of poetry lies in the connection built up through words between the writer and the reader. When we read a poem, we often imagine what the poet was thinking when he wrote it, or what he was doing at the time. These thoughts let us connect with the words better, as if we’d written the poem ourselves. But in the age of artificial intelligence (AI,人工智能), would a poem still mean as much if it wasn’t written by a human at all? Today, computers can create all kinds of texts, including research papers, books, news stories and even poems. In 2013, Australian researcher Oscar Schwartz and his friend Benjamin Laird created a website called “bot or not”, where readers can read poems and guess whether they were written by a human or a computer. During a recent speech at Ted X Sydney, Schwartz said that all over the years, some of the website’s poems were able to fool 65 percent of human readers into thinking they were written by a human. By creating the website, Schwartz and Laird hoped that people would doubt the difference between humans and machines—and be able to tell what makes us humans. “The human mind is not a cold, hard fact,” Schwartz said during his speech. A computer may be able to create poems that are correct in both grammar and style, but it wouldn’t be able to get the same meanings and feelings across as a human poet could. In fact, now AI software creates poems based on ones that have already been written by humans. As Schwartz noted, “The computer works like a mirror that reflects (反映) any idea of a human.” 34.Why is World Poetry Day held every year? A.To understand how poetry expresses human spirits. B.To compare the poetry written by humans and computers. C.To teach people how to write beautiful poetry. D.To show readers the poetry written by computers. 35.Which of the following may the writer agree with? A.Computers can replace humans in poetry writing. B.Computers can speak original human mind. C.Computers can’t show feelings as well as humans. D.Computers are as emotional as human poets. 36.What’s the best title for the passage? A.Intelligent computer poets. B.A mirror of human ideas. C.Poetry by humans or computers. D.The importance of poetry. 四、还原信息(共4小题;每小题1.5分,满分6分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后所给的六个选项中选出四个可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 I run a lot of writing workshops in secondary schools and what I often see is this: teenagers in class just look at the blank page and freeze. Even when I tell them they can’t get it wrong in creative writing, they still stop and feel painful, looking to me for clear and definite instructions. This behavior results from their training to mimic (模仿). 37 In time, they are afraid of getting things wrong and risking failure. Creativity is no longer supported and is even viewed as a soft skill, or even a weakness. However, creativity is highly valued by employers. According to The Conversation, creativity has been the number-one skill needed by 20 million job ads on Linked for two years in a row. 38 Because of limited educational resources and assessment (评价) pressures, teenagers’ thinking becomes increasingly narrow, leaving them afraid to explore other possibilities. 39 It’s just an ability to make new connections and follow where they go. Actually, creativity requires qualities available to us all: courage, observation, curiosity, flexibility and perseverance. So how do we help teenagers be hopeful and brave? Firstly, we need to avoid the idea that their whole futures depend on this very task or that decision. Life is long enough to try many things, and to change directions. There is no right way to live a life. Secondly, let’s encourage raising questions. Children are naturally curious, but this curiosity often fades as they grow older, although it still exists within them. Just because they lack answers doesn’t mean they shouldn’t ask questions, rather, they should ask even more. 40 Young people need reminding that their stories haven’t been written. They need opportunities to try new things. They need permission to keep asking “What else is possible?” because anything is. A.But in schools, it is different. B.Being creative isn’t a magical skill. C.It allows us to understand their feelings better. D.They know it is a safe way to get good grades. E.The main problem is how to keep those creative juices flowing. F.The world is held together with unanswered questions and endless possibilities. 第II卷 笔答题(满分34分) 五、阅读回答(共4小题;前3小题每题2分,第4小题3分,满分9分) 阅读下面短文,回答短文后的问题。(前3题每题答案不超过10个词)。 Hello Kitty, the cat with no mouth, has become the first cartoon kitty to go to space! Lauren Rojas, a 13-year-old girl from America came up with the idea for her science project at school. The inspiration (灵感) came from a television programme Lauren once watched. Lauren spent about a month building a small silver rocket (火箭) and a weather balloon by herself. She put the Hello Kitty doll into the rocket and tied it with the balloon. After testing wind direction and temperature, she set the balloon free. After a few minutes, the balloon rose more than 90,000 feet above the ground. It was near outer space. There, the air was so thin that the balloon burst (爆炸). The balloon was 53 times larger than its original size before bursting open. Hello Kitty’s rocket fell back down to Earth with the help of a parachute (降落伞), and landed safely. Hello Kitty went along for the ride in the rocket just for fun. “I have liked her ever since I was 6 years old,” Lauren told the New York Daily News. “I thought it would be really fun to add a toy inside the rocket.” Lauren loves carrying out science experiments (实验). This experience increased her interest in science even further. 41.How long did Lauren spend building her rocket and the weather balloon? 42.Why did the balloon burst near outer space? 43.What do you think of Lauren? 44.Would you like to carry out such an experiment? 根据“In the finals, they danced Hip-Hop. 根据文章第1段“Ten boys are given the task of spending 190 days on about 9.5 hectares of land”可推知,男孩们需要在农田工作超过半年。故选B。 31.推理判断题。根据文章第2段“They work together and...a close friendship through farming.” 根据文章最后一段“The most important thing in...release their stress from their busy everyday lives.”可知,这个真人秀成功的原因是可以帮助人们释放压力。故选C。 33.推理判断题。通读全文可知,全文围绕一档真人秀节目展开,讨论其内容和影响,因此最可能出现在报纸的“电视节目与文化”版块。故选D。 D US poet Allen Ginsberg once said, “Poetry (诗歌) is the one place where people can speak their original (独创的) human mind.” To know the special ability of poetry to catch the human spirit, World Poetry Day is held by the United Nations on March 21 each year. 【答案】34.A 35.C 36.C 【解析】 【导语】本文探讨了诗歌捕捉人类精神的能力,以及人工智能创作诗歌的局限性,强调人类情感的独特性。 34.细节理解题。根据“To know the special ability of poetry to catch the human spirit, World Poetry Day is held by the United Nations on March 21 each year.”可知,设立世界诗歌日是为了“了解诗歌捕捉人类精神的特殊能力”,故选A。 35.推理判断题。根据“Schwartz said during his speech. A computer may be able to create poems that are correct in both grammar and style, but it wouldn’t be able to get the same meanings and feelings across as a human poet could.” I run a lot of writing workshops in secondary schools and what I often see is this: teenagers in class just look at the blank page and freeze.
