“It’s perfect!” said Toad. He opened a cupboard. “Look,” he cried, “food, drink, paper and cards. It’s ready for our journey this afternoon.”

Pets like dogs and cats are usually popular with people. If you keep a dog or a cat, do you always turn on the radio or TV when you’re not in just because you don’t want your pet to be lonely (孤单的)? A study shows that around 40% of the British people with dogs would like to turn the radio and that 32% would like to turn on the television. But do pets really like this?
Sometimes dogs do respond (作出反应) to human (人类) music. A study shows that when there is light music playing, many dogs seem to be quiet. When it comes to rock music, those dogs seem to be very excited; they make little response to popular music and human talk.
For cats, they hardly (几乎不) respond to human music because their hearing spectrum (频谱) is different from that of humans, so what they hear when they listen to our music is different from what we hear. Some studies show that cats respond to the sounds within their own hearing spectrum. Scientists once tried to see what would happen if they played “cat music” for the cats. They asked Professor (教授) David Teie to make special music for cats. And it showed that when they’re playing it to 47 cats, some cats did respond to it.
So, you’d better play different music for your pets. Good news for cat lovers is that you can buy such special cat music online. David Teie once took part in the cat study and he wrote cat music for sale online.
27.Why do some people leave the radio or TV on for their pet?
A.To do a study on pets. B.To stop it being noisy.
C.To make it less lonely. D.To make it love music.
28.What does the second paragraph mainly talk about?
A.Why dogs respond to some music. B.How to make dogs respond to music.
C.How dogs respond to different music. D.What sounds dogs would like to hear.
29.Which of the following is TRUE?
A.Pets like to listen to the same music. B.Cats have little interest in human music.
C.David Teie’s job is to sell things online. D.The cat music can make people excited.
30.What does the passage mainly talk about?
A.How can we look after pets? B.What kind of music do dogs love?
C.Where can we buy special cat music? D.Do dogs and cats like human music?

九、阅读表达 (本大题共5小题,每小题1分,共5分)
阅读下面的短文,并根据短文后的要求答题。
Chinese folk art is like a bridge connecting the past and present. For thousands of years, Chinese people have created beautiful artworks to celebrate life, festivals, and hopes. Let’s explore some amazing forms of these traditions!
1. Paper Cutting: Windows Full of Wishes
Using simple tools like scissors and red paper, artists cut out delicate patterns. You might see blooming flowers, jumping fish, or the Chinese character Fu for good luck. During the Spring Festival, families stick paper cuttings on windows to welcome happiness. In rural villages, grandmothers still teach children this skill.
2. Clay Art: Stories Shaped by Hands
In Fengxiang, Shaanxi Province, artists mix clay with water and shape it into tigers, rabbits, or even heroes from Chinese stories. After drying, they paint the figures with bright colors like red, green, and gold. These clay toys are not just for play—people believe they can drive away bad luck.
3. Shadow Puppets: Dancing Silhouettes
Over 2,000 years ago, shadow puppetry began. Performers use leather puppets painted in bold colors. Behind a white cloth screen, they move the puppets’ arms and legs with sticks. At the same time, they sing old tales about kings, warriors, and dragons. Long before TV existed, this was “ancient Chinese cinema”!
4. Chinese Knots: Threads of Blessings
A single red silk thread can become a lucky knot! These knots have no beginning or end, symbolizing endless love and family unity. People hang them on doors during weddings or give them to friends as New Year gifts. Some complex knots even look like butterflies or flowers.
5. New Year Paintings: Colors of Joy
Before the Lunar New Year, families buy nianhua—bright paintings of plump babies, gods, or mountains. Artists print these paintings on woodblocks, then add colors by hand. People put them on walls to wish for health and a rich harvest.
Why Keep Folk Art Alive?
Today, museums and schools work together to protect these arts. Young artists mix traditional skills with modern designs. For example, some use paper cuttings to make birthday cards, while others create emoji-style clay figures. As the saying goes, “A country without old traditions is like a tree without roots.”
63.What do people use to make paper cuttings?
64.Why do Fengxiang clay toys have bright colors?
65.How old is shadow puppetry according to the text?
66.What do Chinese knots symbolize?
67.What are two ways people protect folk arts today? (不限字数)

“Is Toad a nice animal?” asked Mole, as Rat rowed the boat.
“Yes,” replied Rat. “ Toad is very kind. But he’s not very clever. And he is a little, well... boastful (自吹自擂的), but I like Toad very much.”
They travelled along the river. Rat sang a song about ducks. Soon they saw Toad Hall, Toad’s house. It was a lovely old house by the river with beautiful gardens.
“There’s Toad Hall,” said Rat. “Toad is very rich, you know.” Rat and Mole found Toad in the garden. He was looking at a big map.
“Mole and Rat!” he cried. “Oh! It’s great to see you! And you can help me—it’s very important.”
“Do you want help with your boat?” asked Rat.
“Boat? Oh, no!” said Toad. “Boats are stupid (愚蠢的)! I don’t like boats. I have a new thing now. Come and see.”
So Rat and Mole went with Toad to the back of the house. There they saw the new thing—it was a Gypsy caravan (大篷车). It was yellow and green with red wheels.
“Look, look!” cried Toad. Mole was very excited. Mole went up the steps into the caravan with Toad. It was very small, but very nice. There were three little beds.
There was a little table, a cooker, bookshelves and a bird cage with a bird in it.
“It’s perfect!” said Toad. He opened a cupboard. “Look,” he cried, “food, drink, paper and cards. It’s ready for our journey this afternoon.”
“What?” said Rat. “Our journey this afternoon?”
“Now, Rat,” said Toad, “please, please come with me! We can see the world—together!”
“No,” said Rat. “I don’t want to see the world. I want to stay on my river. And Mole wants to stay on the river too. Don’t you, Mole?”
“Err… Yes, of course,” said Mole, sadly. He looked at the yellow and green caravan. Then he looked at Toad.

【答案】27.C 28.C 29.B 30.D
