World Laughter Day is a special day when people all over the world come together to laugh. Although this day sounds a bit silly, there is a serious reason behind it.
This day happens on the first Sunday of May every year. It was started by Dr. Madan Kataria, a doctor from India, in 1998. Its goal is to achieve health, happiness and world peace through laughter. Dr. Kataria encouraged people to join laughter groups where they could meet up and laugh in public. More than 12,000 people came to the first event, and since then it has caught on around the world.
Nobody knows for sure why people laugh, but all human cultures have laughter. Even babies laugh before they can talk!
Dr. Kataria found that when people fake (假装) laughing, it often causes real laughter. “Our body doesn’t know the difference between acting happy and being really happy, so we can fake laughing until the laughter comes naturally,” he said.
On World Laughter Day, lots of people meet up in parks or squares to laugh together. They do Laughter Yoga, a kind of exercise that mixes laughing and deep breathing. There may also be music and dancing. They even have competitions (比赛) to see who has the best laugh.
If you can’t find a Laughter Day event near you, why not set up your own with friends and family? Or, you could watch a funny movie to join in the fun. Remember, the spirit of World Laughter Day is all about bringing joy and laughter into every day of the year.

根据“This is one of the most...New Year’s traditions”可知设空处修饰名词traditions,需用形容词。
根据“in some other Asian countries...Japan South Korea, and Malaysia.” 故填like。
故填which。
根据“Similar to the Chinese tradition, Japanese place the money in envelopes...these envelopes are in many colors rather than just red.” 故填but。
根据“In South Korea, parents and grandparents give...lucky money.”
根据“However, they don’t use envelopes. Instead, the money is...in lucky bags”可知此处为被动语态,指把钱放在幸运袋里,is后接过去分词构成被动语态。
根据“when they come to...them during the holiday.” 根据“wish...good health and long life”可知wish后接双宾语,空格处为间接宾语,指代前面的“the elders”。 故填them。
根据“show people’s wishes to...joy and good luck”和备选词可知传播快乐和好运,to为不定式符号,后接动词原形。
根据“celebrate the Chinese New Year...”
